I have seen Pete Yorn play a three times with a different backing band each time. Generally speaking, each of the shows still had a similar rock feel. That being said, The Olms is not Pete Yorn. It is a band with a completely different sound thanks to Yorn's collaboration with JD King. King looks like he walked out of the 1960s and has that general vibe. This was my favorite thing about this collaboration. It was interesting, and the songwriting/performance was great. The show was a lot more low key than a usual PY show, but the energy fit the music. King is a multi-instrumentalist, and blends his time between keys, acoustic guitar, and even the flute for the song Another Daydream. PY spends the entire show on acoustic guitar. I really enjoyed the show, would recommend it to any PY fan, and will definitely keep an eye out for The Olms in the future!

I bought the CD at the merch counter, so I went into the show knowing nothing other than I generally like Pete Yorn's stuff. Not a huge, "Oh he's the greatest" fan, but just a fan. (His early stuff was better when he still had a little rock edge.) If you've heard the CD, you have a good idea what the show was like. The collaboration is centered on a fondness for 60s pop - light Tommy James and the Shondelles type stuff, not rocking Animals or Kinks type stuff. They do a cover of the Troggs' "Love Is All Around," which should tell you something. They should have played "Wild Thing" to wake up the Stone Pony Crowd. Yorn did a collaboration with Scarlett Johansson a few years back that resulted in some very good tunes. This effort seems like a couple of bored musicians killing some time. The lyrics are silly and the music bland. Having said that, bland music translates very well into a bland show. This music should have been played in a lounge setting instead of a rock club.

Pete Yorn and JD King are The Olms? So who did we see? The show was less than an hour and they played 3 covers. Not enough to highlight either Pete, JD or The Olms. I'm a big Pete Yorn, but really?

This was my fourth time seeing Pete Yorn in concert, and it was fantastic. Loved the show. The music was terrific and they took time afterward to meet their fans. Great club too. Hope to see The Olms again! Pete always puts on a great show, and I look forward to hearing more from The Olms in the future.
