I have attended multiple CATCO events. The more that I am seeing the less enthusiastic I have become. So many of the shows have only one or maybe three actors. As for Shipwrecked, several times I thought I was watching a high school performance. The supporting characters with the exception of some of the dog's antics were not terribly amusing. I did not see the original main actor, so I can't speak to his talents. I researched the play in advance. Rave reviews in other cities. A good review in our Dispatch. The play was intended to be 90 minutes with no intermission. Our play was 1 hour and 50 minutes. My guest were "dying" to use the restrooms and get a bottle of water. I will not be back for the rest of this season. I hope Steven Andersen finds better material for next year.

It was a great, quick-moving presentation. The period pieces and dress added, but the piece d'resistance was the actor who portrayed the dog and the Queen!

"Shipwrecked!", a one act three character (plus percussionist) play is the wonderful lively fun adventure that "Peter & the Starcatcher" (a similar play) should have been. But unlike "Peter" this show never has a dull moment or a false move that feels like filler. From the initial greeting to the final bow the story flows so naturally that there is never a second of boredom or restlessness. This two hour show moves so swiftly that when it finally reaches its somewhat ambiguous (but certainly not disappointing) conclusion it leaves you wanting to spend more time with these wonder characters and find where their future adventures might take them. CATCO has assembled a truly wonderful cast with seemingly unending talents. The two "assistants" play multiple roles, each so clear and spot on that you are never in doubt of who they are and where they fit in the story. Overall "Shipwrecked!", as presented by CATCO, is a truly wonderful journey into one mans past.

I went with my 12 year old daughter; she's very shy so the theatre size made her very comfortable. The play itself was GREAT. The little quirky twists in the play were very appreciated by all ages. I loved the male actor that played various roles (was it Mr. Clemons?) we were star struck to say the least. Emily sang like an angel. I wish we could see it again.

My girlfriends and I saw this show in Boston several years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. When we heard it was coming to Columbus, we decided it would be a fun "date night" with our husbands. My husband (not your biggest theater fan) was reluctant but willing to go along. I kept assuring him it would be worth it, and it was! (I love it when I'm right!). He later admitted to his golf partner that he thought "sitting through some dumb musical about a spelling bee would be torture, but it was hilarious!" All cast members were excellent, but we particularly enjoyed Japheal Bondurant as Wiliam Barfee. OMG, he was a riot! He's a rising star and I hope to be seeing more of him in bigger productions! Also, it was our first time at the Riffe Center. Studio One is an awesome venue, very intimate with no bad seats.

I took my grandkids (10 &12) to it and thought it should have had a PG rating due to some of the language and parts of the show. When my grandson had to go to the restroom during the first act, the doors were locked and we had trouble getting back in. The show lasted over 2 hours not the 1 1/2 hours advertized. It was a good show for adults.

What a great show to start off the CATCO season. The play is hysterically irreverent and performed to perfection. We saw the same show on Broadway in New York and we can say without hesitation that the actor who played God is CATCO's production was every bit as good if not better than the actor we saw in New York. CATCO consistently provides first-rate, professional theatre to the Central Oho area.

An interesting consortium of 5 actors and one actress each of which very capable of singing with melodious voice and the harmony was great. However, the tunes sounded tinny at first and I believed that it was to mimic the way they might have sounded way back in the day when first recorded, specifically June Carter's. Unfortunately, that was NOT the case as this 'sound' continued all the way through to the end of the Cash releases when Johnny's music sounded more like country rock. The male lead's voice was at least an octave too high to accurately reproduce Johnny Cash's booming baritone if not bass (song dependant) voice - quite disappointing to say the least. Don't waste your money with this one but rather spend it wisely and check out Jersey Boys or The British Invasion if you want to hear a great 'tribute' group. Just my 2 cents worth...

I am a fan of Cash's music. I recommend this show with the caveat that you not have great expectations of it. It's a pleasant way to spend an afternoon if you like Cash songs and the music is performed well. The performers did perform Cash's biggest hits that I wanted to hear, yet although I own several of Cash's CDs, there were many songs I wasn't familiar with, mostly the gospel ones. The show was rather slow-moving for a while at first. There was little of Johnny's life covered, just a few key moments so there wasn't much dramatic performance between the songs. The woman sitting next to me commented that she had seen the Patsy Cline show too and that one was better because it had more dramatic content. The performers were very talented and my one criticism of them is at times the female performer, Amy, sang too loudly bordering on screeching out the song, but in fairness, not most of the time. It didn't quite make sense that all five performers, including Amy, introduced themselves at the beginning as being Johnny Cash, yet clearly Amy was June Carter at times during the performance. I enjoyed the show because I like Cash's music and I never heard him in a live performance, so I liked hearing the music live. However, there wasn't anything much more to the show in terms of fleshing out his life. I have to say that I enjoyed the film including the music in Walk the Line better than this show, but I'm still glad I saw it. I'm also glad I received a $10 discount code for being a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so that I didn't spend full price to see the show..

Catco's production of Mothers and Sons was a beautifully acted story of relationships and the dynamics of relationships coping with lives and the deaths of loved ones. The play centers on a mother, played by Jaqueline Bates, who is still having difficulty letting go of her son, who died of AIDS more than a decade earlier. She drops in, unannounced, to visit his former lover (David Vargo), who has moved on, married, and he and his husband (Joe Dallacqua) are now raising a son of their own (Lucas Cloran & Elliot Hattemer). From lights up to curtain call, this production was fantastic.

I'd never been to an 11 a.m. performance before so I was surprised at how quickly I became absorbed in the play. All I knew about it was the brief synopsis in the publicity--which never mentioned the AIDS epidemic so I wasn't prepared for my own memories and losses being triggered by the powerful performances. The ensemble cast played off one another wonderfully, including the child. The happy ending, while perhaps a bit sentimental, was a welcome relief!

I found this play to be very moving and very well acted although I thought the portrayal of Will Ogden as played by Joe Dallacqua bordered just a bit on the stereotype of gay men. I would have liked to have him toned down just a bit. David Vargo was outstanding in the role of Cal. The plot delivered a very powerful and important message. The evolution of Katherine Gerard's character was believable and touching.

This play was an enormous disappointment. Most noticably, the articulation was terrible, so we couldn't understand a lot of what was said. The acting was also mediocre. When we were leaving, another person asked us if the play was over...that's how bad it was. Kids in the audience were bored and restless, which didn't help with trying to understand the actors. I have never given a play such a low rating and I know how hard actors work to learn their lines and staging, but this play was a waste of money.

My husband and I had the pleasure of seeing Henry Ford's Model E at the Rife Center. The set was a simple revolving stage and yet brought you back in time. With slight changes like the type of phone on the set at a particular era was the perfect touch. The stage hand wore a Ford uniform while changing the set. Each actor is worth noting but the standout would be Steven Black as Henry Ford. Portraying the love a father has for his son. Wanting to teach him his ways but tearing down everything he presented, takes a toll on all involved. Henry Ford was an ASS. Even though he was the first in the auto industry to raise his employee wages to make his car available for the working man, his strong arm Bennett made it hard to work there. Ford's philosophy was if our wages are double that of other auto manufactures if someone messes up they're fired because they have 10 others waiting to take their place. When his son dies his family blames Ford. He truly loved his son and it pretty much destroyed him. I highly recommend seeing this play.

I will keep this short and sweet. While the acting was good, the play itself was not. The first half was like a witty comedy and showed great potential. The second half became a drama and, while interesting, didn't seem to connect to or follow through on the first half. And then, after sitting through an intense buildup the last 15-20 minutes, the ending was...a complete cop-out, a total letdown, and overall infuriating. My husband and I just looked at each other, stunned, as the rest of the audience started clapping, and said in unison "Is that the end? That can't be the end." Why bother writing a story if you can't commit to an ending? What a total waste of time of time and money. This was my last CATCO play I will attend. Three strikes and they're out.

Oscar Wilde is ne of the great English playwrites brought on himself a tragic downfall. This Moises Kaufman play tells the story of the three trials that led to his demise. The fast pace dialogue is deptly present by a cast led by Josh Katawick asWilde but susupported by other hard working actors taking on a variety of challenging roles from deadly serious to very light hearted as portrayed by, among others David Vargo. The stage setting and lighting design is an excellent and flexible setting for this stimulating show. It is deeply thought provoking about the responsibility Wilde takes in his own dedication to art and beauty. My only admonition is to those whom may find the English accents difficult to understand. I thought they were done well but that may not be true for everyone. This is engaging, thought provoking theatre.

Having loved the book when I read it 40 years ago, I didn't know what I would think of the play so many years later. It far exceeded my expectations. The actor portraying Asher was totally believable as an adult, adolescent and child. His movements and expressions as a child were endearing. I appreciated how the parents both stood by their convictions, yet expressed love, respect and perplexity with Asher and each other. There was a lot of tension and sadness that was broken by witty lines and love. It was a truly enjoyable experience and you could have heard a pin drop thru the entire play.

My partner was a bit disappointed at first; he confused it with another production based on 50's music and was expecting something much different. I, on the other hand, liked the storyline, thought the actors were talented, energetic, and engaging, and would recommend it to anyone..

A fun relaxing evening watching four actors singing great harmony in an intimate theater. Every seat is close to the stage and the actors play to all seats. The story is just enough to tie together the songs and there is plenty of humor thrown in. Second act highlight is the Ed Sullivan Show revue.

I was sooo disappointed, I got the tickets for my parents, for my mothers bday. They took my almost 19 yr old sister with them, my mom is 63, my step father 56. They left after the first act!!!! Said it was raunchy, and the sexual innuendos were too much for them to set through, especially with my sister. I was sooo bummed out! I thought I had gotten something my Mom would really enjoy for her bday. My sister is leaving for college next wknd and this was supposed to be like a last outing for the three of them before she left. Soooo disappointed. :(

The play was lively and very funny. I loved the music and dancing, but mostly I loved the story line. My husband and I laughed throughout the entire performance. It was a wonderful way to spend a Friday night.

We were so pleased that the stage production closely followed the unforgettably funny movie with Michael Caine, Steve Martin and Glenn Headley! The cast did a fantastic job as well. The only confusion and disappointment came with the backdrop. While the gambling theme was appropriate, some of the numbers chosen were tasteless and would have been better suited elsewhere. That was the only drawback.

Tremendously talented cast! One of the things that struck me was how obvious it was that the performers were having FUN with their roles... no stale run throughs here!!

Mildly funny with a sprinkling of sexual innuendo. The songs were pleasant, worked with the play, but were not memorable. Acting and production values were top notch. All in all in all an enjoyable time.

I saw this production on Friday, August 1. The actors were a bit stiff during the first 15-30 minutes of the show. However something clicked and the actors seemed to fall into character. The rest of the show was funny and enjoyable. I definitely recommend seeing the production.

I loved the show. The cast members did a wonderful job. The music, singing, and dancing was amazing. I knew three of the cast members and they all did a very good job. Catco does a very good job presenting wonderful theatre productions.
