I ve never attended any of her live evets but I can say the only thing more beautiful than her music is Keiko Matsui herself. Keiko, you said this new album symbolize something like a New Beginning for you. In this compilation of works I could hear the maturity, growth, vibrant spirit and true sounds of your heart. Domo Arigatoo Gozaimasu. This latest album Journey to the Heart resonates with me in a special way. Thank you for sharing your journey and letting us accompany you through the years. Also, thank you for a wonderful evening at the Reading Jazz Festival. I look forward to experiencing more of your live performances. Sincerely kkrigger

I have not been to a concert with this genre of music ever. I wasn't sure what to expect. My husband is a big fan of Keiko Matsui and has for quite a number of years said that he would take me to her concert. The Birchmere is a terrific place with friendly staff and cool decor. The audience was a nice mixture of different ages of people as well as different nationalities- it was a melting pot! I love how music brings people together. Keiko Matsui and her band did not disappoint us. They took time to engage with the crowd, Keiko spoke to us often and made sure all sides of the room got to see her perform.

I first saw Keiko at Musicfest in Bethlehem and became a huge fan. I own every albumn that she has produced and love her music. She is so creative and so talented that even with a touring band her music is amazing. It's no wonder that this show sold out faster than any other at the Berks Jazz Festival. I only wish that her performance was an hour longer!

This was the third time I've seen Keiko Matsui, and the third time was "the charm". It was her best performance. She played many songs from her new CD and I just love it! It's the first she has produced herself, and it shows off her considerable talents. Keiko spoke to the audience more than she usually does and told some funny stories from her most recent tour experiences. She is always cute and energetic, but she added even more fun and humor than usual. After the concert Keiko was very accessible, signing autographs and posing for photos with fans. That's what I love about the Berks Jazz Fest and jazz artists universally: they are very fan friendly and accessible. If not for some technical difficulties at the start, this would have been a perfect five-star experience!

Well, my first experience at the Berks Jazz Fest was a good one. Keiko Matsui certainly played her heart out for the sold out crowd. After about a 10 minute delay in getting the concert started, due to technical problems with her keyboards, we were treated to a wide variety of songs from her entensive catalogue. After the first song, the mix was just right. Two comments....first, her bass player was great, he really played his instrument with enthusiam...second, at 70 minutes, the concert was too short. Many people commented on the way out that she should have played longer, and I couldn't have agreed more!

F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C performance last night. Matsui-san and her band shared some awesome jazz along with some background around each song. Her latest CD was produced by her (1st time) and she played many songs from it. Another winner! If you get the chance, go and ENJOY this performer!!! Saw one of the guitar players from Yokohama at another hotel later that evening (Euge Groove concert was also GREAT) and found out he is originally from Osaka (l shared Iived there for 8 months). He was great on the guitar, as well as all the other band member - each so talented and played so well together. MPW

The show started out with no power to Keiko's Yamaha keyboards. After about 5 minutes of scrambling by a technician all was well. She played for about 1 hour 20 minutes or so, so not a very long show, but excellent none-the-less. I don't know much about her body of work, other than the song "Black River", which is how I was initially turned on to her. However, what I heard sounded great, and she spent some time speaking to the audience about what had inspired her song writing. At the end of the show she signed CDs, which was cool.

But the show at the 2010 Berks Jazz Fest was too short - 1:05. Sax and Bass players both added a lot to the evening's performance.

One oif the greatest performances I'veI witnessed by artist. Not flashy, though with great poise and pizzaz and knows how to carry the audience. What I've liked most about her music; it's her's, and covered music. Too many artists use covered music thinking they are pleasing the audience because it's a song that 's played and people liked or danced to it. Keiko, No it's all hers and it's always refreshing. Thanks for a good night of entermainment and great music.

I knew nothing about her when I went to see and hear Keiko Matsui at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, a very pleasant, low-key, comfortable venue. I was blown away by her grace and style, the coordination of her band, and her sincere passion for music and its power to bring to the surface all that we share as people, regardless of origin or culture. Her form of "jazz" to me is much more peppy than the jazz I'm used to, and her style and eneregy are riveting. There were great periods of percussion, lovely riffs, powerful quiet notes as punctuation, and funny anecdotes. Two hours passed like minutes. No matter what she played, she was gracious and vivacious. Her band members are accomplished and coordinate flawlessly. She apparently has 20 CDs! I'll have to check those out, too. Don't miss the chance to her her perform live. She's magical, a dazzling, benevolent musical sorceress.

Take an absolutley amazing artist, surround her with other masterful musicians and place her in the perfect venue and your have the perfect formula for captivating music !!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Birchmere is a wonderfully unique place to experience great artists and great music. The staff are the best, food and drink is great, accoustics fabulous...but most of all, you feel like you are experiencing the intimate performance designed just for you. It's as if the artists, too, feel and perform special...because they have the opportunity to really interact with their audience in a personal setting. Keiko certainly did...I feel like I witnessed a truly special evening and performance.

Too uptempo to be called New Age, more structured than jazz, harmonic, complex and beautifully composed. This was a remarkable performance by a remarkably talented musical ensemble lead by the gifted Keiko Matsui.

I have been a fan of Keko Matsiu ever since I was introduced to her via BET on Jazz back in 1994. The album released during that time was "Doll" which is still my favorite album by her. I have most of her discography which is quite vast (Over 20 US album releases alone) and have many favorites. This was my first time seeing her perform live in person and it was really wonderful and definitely fulfilled one of my lifetime dreams in terms of say a "bucket list". Keiko is a very humble performer who doesn't mind sharing the stage with other artists and band mates. Each of them had multiple areas to shine in solos and recognition. These include a saxophonist (Jackiem Joyner-which I will go on more further down), guitarist (Blake Aaron), bass (Eric Baines) and drummer (can't remember his name). Hearing her music on cd/mp3/radio or wherever is one thing. This includes live recording DVD's.VHS, etc. It's a whole different experience being there live while she's performing. Some songs I may not have paid attention to before end up becoming instant favorites just because of this. She definitely has a gift and I aspire to be almost as good as her one day as I also play piano. On stage with her and other band members was Jackiem Joyner who plays saxophone, flute and a composer also. He's my favorite sax player. I was introduced to him while listening to Pandora radio earlier this year as a similar artist to Keiko. I found out he he had been touring as part of her band and recorded on her most recent album "The Road...". I have his discography as well. It was great getting to see him play in person. It was like getting to see 2 concerts in one with him, even tho it was only Keiko's music that was played. He's also really gifted and has revived my wanting to learn to play sax on top of the other instruments I can play (piano, percussion). After the show she she was in the lobby signing autographs and posing for pictures. I had the chance to shake her hand and speak with her briefly while getting some pictures with her. It was overall a great night. I hope I can see her again soon.

The ever gracious, lovely, and extremely talented Japanese pianist and her band played two identical shows on a Sunday evening at BB KIngs in Times Square after having performed for Japan Day in Cental Park earlier in the day. Keiko introduced most of the songs with some details about how they were composed and titled. The majority of the set focused on the newly released album "The Road..." (don't forget the dot, dot, dots, that represent the continuing road that each of our lives follows). Although her music is categorized as New Age and Smooth Jazz, and many selections performed that evening would certainly fit those descriptions, the band and pianist took time to swing on a number of selections that also included plenty of solo time for each band member. Keiko's band really "rocked" (as she might say). The first show was a sell out, but plenty of empty seats and space for the second show made for a quite intimate setting to see and hear the internationally acclaimed artist. Although some may complain that more (new) material should have been included on "The Road...", the direction that Keiko is taking on her "new journey" is a welcome and positive one. Stop in Chicago soon, Keiko.

I've been to probably 20 concerts where Keiko Matsui has been the headliner, from Humphrey's big stage, to Thorton's cattle-call-bake-your-brain-in-the-sun, to this "BackStage" venue. This is by far the best way to see her--up close and personal. The drummer (Cuban), bass (Nordic...I forget which country) and her lead guitar (Brazilian) were the best of the best. As a partnership they Keiko Matsuiand Euge Groove not only were good in them selves but knew how to surround themselves with talent. The female vocalist Lyndsey Webster had such a range of voice and great control. However it did not stop here her husband the keyboard who wrote songs for her collaborated to form memorable works. Adam Hawley is so precise as the guitarist composed and collaborated with Euge to make great songs on his new album release. The drummer has excellent singing range as well. Love the funk the Bassist came up with. Euge is bold and Keiko to supported to proclaim the goodness of God both in words and in song, definitely supporting the Reason for the Season we honor. I heard from Lynn that the team had backed out of Jakarta Jazz fest. Hope they do it some year. Indonesia has a love for Japanese women lead Jazz players since the first lady Dewi, for the first President was from Japan and Euge with his love for the Savior has much to offer this island chain.

She and her band were phenomenal each possessed their individual musical aptitude which resulted in a extra-ordinary blend of Jazz pleasing to the ear and the spirit.

For as long as I can remember, Keiko Matsui has been one of my most admired pianists. As a classical pianist myself, I couldn't wait to see her in concert. Her performance was absolutely flawless! Not only is she an incredible artist, but she is also a gracious and humble human being. I will definitely search her tour schedule to see her again.

My first smooth jazz concert and I was not disappointed. Keiko is a dynamic, energetic, and extremely happy performer! Every song sounded great! She played a wide range of songs across her catalog, with a focus on her new album. She played Black Lion, which is one of my favorites. I would see Keiko again! And again!

I LOOKED FORWARD TO SEEING KEIKO SINCE I MISSED HER PERFORMANCE AT THE THORNTON WINERY. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED. SHE SPENT THE EVENING MOSTLY PROMOTING HER NEW ALBUM WHICH IS SUBPAR IN MY ESTIMATION. A LOT OF THE OLD TUNES THAT CATAPULTED HER TO FAME AND DREW A FAN BASE WERE NOT PLAYED. I HAD LOOKED FORWARD TO LISTENING LIVE TO THOSE GREAT TUNES AND CREATIVE WORK. THE SHOW WAS ALSO VERY SHORT. I FELT LIKE IT WAS A "DRIVE BY" PERFORMANCE THAT WAS NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

Keiko was a delight providing superb musicianship in a warm and intimate atmosphere. Her set primarily consisted of tracks from her latest album, which I will definitely purchase. She is an amazing talent!

I love Keiko and all that she does, however, I must admit that I like her when she is performing with another entertainer like Dave Koz. and they play together and there is an intermission where you do see her alone and the other person alone but you get to experience them together also and to me, that's a much better concert.

Don't plan to return to facility for events due to seating or, in some cases I'm reading, none. Place is too small and they call it a concert hall but when it provides seating, it's folding chairs suitable for a high school play. For larger crowds, they just remove the seats. Event was affected by half due to discomfort. Even players had to vie for stage space in some instances. On the other hand, Keiko was great. After warming up her set, we were distracted enough to forget the guy we're crammed next to. She was promoting new CD so many songs in it were played. In it, she's collaborating with a major player of Fourplay. It would seem natural for her to follow in the footsteps of Bob James on such a collaboration. Being a fan of both groups, I'd highly recommend seeing her and new CD. You'll notice the difference live since it is like a bonus version of the songs. Can't forget the CD symbolism. That's Keiko.

What a talented performer and what an immensely talented back-up band. My wife is the big fan, but consider me a convert after this show. My only complaint is that she didn't play a few hours longer!!! Such a wonderful stage presence and to meet her afterwards was a complete delight. Please, take the time to see her, you'll be entertained for every moment.
