I was really looking forward to this show, as I enjoyed seeing Anthony D'amato as an opener at The Sinclair a few months ago. However, I was pretty disappointed at the overall quality and duration of the performance. I guess I should have noted that this was the opening show of the tour, which is often a bad thing. It certainly didn't do the performers any favours in this case - Anthony and his band seemed uncoordinated and more focused on ensuring the drummer hit his cues than actually performing the songs. I felt like it really took away from the feeling and emotion behind the performance. Though there were a few glimmers throughout the show of the group's potential, I think their recordings are far better than their live show, at least at this point. This will sound a bit mean, but their songwriting also seemed more contrived and platitude-ridden when performed live (admittedly, bereft of emotion) than on the recordings. On top of it all, they played for barely an hour, which I consider a bit of an affront for people coming out to a 10:30//11PM show on a Wednesday night. Note - you may want to take this review with a grain of salt, as I did request a song a day before the show and they didn't didn't play it. It's possible that my experience might be coloured by that fact. There were about 20-30 people there, though, so I think he could have granted my request... but I understand people have setlists they want to play, which is fair.
