I wasn't sure how the play would be interpreted from the book and the movie but it was spectacular. I enjoyed how each character was developed more in the play. I like that the props were simple and the concentration was on the characters and the acting instead. It made it more enjoyable for me not to be distracted from the props. I would and have recommended the play to all my friends and family. Thank you for a lovely day at the play.

Everything about the play was great and we enjoyed it immensely. The only down side to the evening was the unavailable handicap parking on the first level which we needed. The first available space was on the 5th level and that was a problem. In the future, could you please make provisions for those with disabilities.

We enjoyed The Color Purple immensely. I was hesitant to attend at first because I've attended many shows on Broadway in NYC. I was so pleased that the talent was as good as I see in NYC. And I love the DPAC. We've attended 2 comedy shows and 1 play. We've always been pleased with our seats, the volunteers, the concession stand lines.

I had wanted to get to NY to see this performance, but it seems that things were against me getting there. I had always wondered whether the show was too long and whether or not it would capture my attention for the entire show. And then the show pulled into Durham ... and I am so glad that the show was brought to DPAC. Overall, the facilities and services at DPAC were outstanding. We had great seats and the show -- it was better than I expected and I was expecting a great performance. The musical and dance performances were the best and the time just melted away. Also noticeable was the multi-racial population of the audience. Being relatively new to Durham I have attended few events celebrating the work of African Americans where there was a multi-racial audience that really showed appreciation for the work. Never before in my time in Durham have I witnessed a significant event where African Americans and Whites of every age group were totally on the same page. Thank you DPAC for becoming a place where the best performances can be brought to Durham! Dr. Ernest

The cast was phenomenally talented! However, the multiple sound issues (mics not working at all or cutting in and out), low grade projection in the back (often looked like a screensaver, and would loop - very distracting), some cheap-looking wigs, and various other technical aspects left something to be desired. Despite the outstanding cast, the production felt rather amateurish.

The Color Purple cast was extremely talented. From song to dance they did a fantastic job. Given the fact that real CP fans know every scene of the movie; I found myself drawn in with anticipation of the next line; I took my daughter for her birthday whom I believe is the biggest fan ever and secretly co-wrote the movie script. There was one scene between the Shug and Celie characters that deviated from the movie that I found a bit odd, but nevertheless it served it's purpose in setting the final scenes. Regardless of seating, I believe you'll be pleased. There seems to be a good view point from any location. The sound system had some obvious challenges with feed a few times, but it didn't take away from the actors ability to provide a great show for the crowd. Jennifer Holiday - was EXCELLENT in character and song. The Celie character was played extremely well. I can't help but wonder if the actress was switched in the final scenes and replaced with Fantasia. If it wasn't Fantasia the likeness is uncanny. The vocals where incredible and the hair on my arms rose to the occasion. Job well done! Go See the Play and support the cast!

The Color Purple play is always something i wanted to see and I am glad that it came to St. Louis and even more glad it was on Mother's Day. I took my daughter and Grand Daughter and we had a very good Mother's Day. The character's Angie Stone I love her have been a fan of hers for all of my life. Along with Vanessa Bell Armstrong. love anything she does. The other cast were awesome too. A very talented group of people that made the play a success. Thanks to ticket master i didnt know i needed a ticket for my grand daughter and originally i only brought 2 tickets. When i learned that my grand daughter needed a ticket Ticketmaster was Awesome in finding 3 seats that were SUPER great location. Better than what i had before. so we could all sit together and enjoy the musical. I would recommend that everyone go and see this play. The best part of the play for me was the African Dance. The cast and production crew of The Color Purple put on a show which we very much enjoyed. We're very appreciative of the troupe making a one-night stop in Mobile. This was our first time at the Saenger Theater in Mobile. Parking and access into and out of the theater was a snap. There were some other issues however. The sound system was lacking in fidelity and at times it made crackling sounds which did nothing to enhance the performance. The first 10-15 minutes of the performance were difficult to follow due to the distraction of late arrivals being seated by ushers in our area of the loge. The seats were also somewhat tight with very limited leg/knee room. And the air conditioning felt as though someone had run a duct directly down the back of my shirt. I believe I was sitting directly below the vents in the center ceiling and I was freezing!

Mom and I were enjoying a nice vacation on Santa Rosa Island, Florida -- so I was very happy to get tickets to the show just the Saturday before. Mom and I had a great time finding the place, which was wonderful! The show was awesome! What more can I say? Mom cried during the overture, since she just couldn't believe the music she was hearing. From the first moment on, the show captivated Mom and me -- where we were just sitting on the edge of our seats. Mom told me she cried three times during the show, since it was such a wonderful, beautiful production. I had bought the original cast album a year ago, so I knew the music was going to be toe-tapping, meaningful, and uplifting. However, I did not expect the full joy of the show right there in person! The settings...the singing...the dancing...the costumes...the music...the lighting...everything was perfect! I recommend this show a thousand times...and a thousand times again. I can't wait to see it again, when it comes around my area of Louisiana. And Mom, even at her age of 74, is always humming "Push The Button!" I can't get the CD out of the car now, since she's always listening to it. I'll just have to buy my own!

This play was sooooo very awesome. The lineup was perfect and I did not see one performer/actor miss a line or a beat/tune. It was absolutely beautiful and very well choreorgraphed. I really enjoyed the way the play differed a bit with the development of the plot towards the end as well. I have an aunt and a friend who both saw the premier on Broadway in New York several years back and they both agreed that they enjoyed this show better than the original cast/show they saw on Broadway. I also purchased a brochure and after reviewing a glimpse of previous cast members and the line-up, I am very glad that I was able to enjoy this cast than any of the others. Celie and Shug were superb and Mister was very handsome (which made it that much easier to look at him and enjoy/appreciate his character). I also got to meet, get her autograph, and take a picture with Shug (Taprena) after the show and that was wonderful and the perfect ending to another perfect evening at the theatre.

Having seen both the movie and the musical I always appreciate the talent involved, but for this performance...Fantasia was the perfect fit! You can't help but feel as if you "know" her as the combination of acting and singing provide such an intimate view of the writer's idea come to life! Each moment that she interacted with any character moved me through her story as if I was being written to as her dearest friend... The entire production was professional, creative and again a wonderful experience. On a personal note, it was my birthday on Sundays performance - and "I'm here" had very special significance for me as I journey towards the next portion of my own life.

Hey I have not been to a play in about 7 years. I moved to California in July 2007and WOW am I glad I took my wife as a Valentine's Day present She really connected to the song "I am Beautiful" The entire cast was "off the chain" good ( slang for indescribable). Everyone around us was moved no matter what color" they were. The orchestra deserves their credit too Magnificent" I am getting moved just writing about this. I don't have enough words to tell the whole story, just the fact I'll be at the next one. Is there Color Purple CD with Fantasia singing? You would have sold more copies than you can ever imagine. Many people did not buy it because it wasn t Fantasia. Think about making one after the show or taping a live show it will sell no matter what city it is in. the song she sang about being beautiful, you could tell she thought about her own life while singing it. It moved my wife to tears because she felt what she was feeling. Fantasia my wife and I are praying for you and your family. I saw her life story on TV she really meant that song and she is right she is beautiful inside and out. Don t forget about God.

The play was so worth the wait! Fantasia was amazing and very believable in her part of miss Celie. The play took a turn at the end far from the movie however I have now learned it is the ending in the original book so that was exciting for me to see. The play is 3 hours long. Chairs are not comfortable at all but the color purple was worth enduring the chairs.

I saw The Color Purple on Saturday. It was friggin' awesome. I've read the book. I've seen the movie numerous times. Yet, I cried 3 or 4 times. Why? Because of the amazing talent on the stage. To see my people on the stage performing at the highest absolute level and giving it their all. That is what made me cry. I can go on and talk about the sets--how they were simple but very effect. How the timing was impeccible. How the wardrobe so perfectly followed and moved me along the timeline. But outshining it all--was the total soul eminated on that stage. I just can't even effectively put it in words. All lI can do is feel it. And oh, what a feeling. My thanks to everyone involved in the production. You made me feel love, beauty, and strong. Bless you all.

When the curtain goes up and the cast starts to sing - you know right away that this is going to be a great musical. My mom, daughter and I went together and we all 3 thoroughly enjoyed the show! The entire cast have amazing voices and perform so well and we could not pick one out of the cast that stood out any more than any others as they were all so good--- Except Fantasia sings at the end and brings you to tears with her song from the heart. So Great! We were at the matinee and my daughter was disappointed that Fantasia was unable to come out between shows, but we understand. Recommend this show to all over 13 years.

We had seen the original play years ago and didn't realize this was a condensed low budget version that they turned into just a musical. We liked the original play better. Having read the book and seen the movie numerous times, we knew the story line and what was going on. Several friends that had never read the book or seen the movie got the gist but had a hard time following what was going on. Also, key songs or scenes were left out that really mattered, or maybe we just enjoyed those parts of the original play. I wouldn't spend the money to see this version again and wouldn't have this time had it been made clear that it was not the original play.

This was my second time seeing The Color Purple and I don t regret going again. The cast was phenomenal and the whole staging seemed new from the first time it was on broadway. I was sad when it was over. All the actors made this a great experience.

We strained to hear the dialog. The music was a good volume but it was hard to hear the people speaking.

The sound quality was terrible. It was so hard to understand what was being said that we left at intermission. A complete waste of $160.00

I loved this production. I laughed. I cried. I smiled. I frowned. An all emotional show.

Great show. Some of the dialogue was quiet, so difficult to hear. Music was amazing.

The music was amazing. The actors were very good. My only complaint was that I had trouble hearing the dialogue. Many people around me said the same.

. The cast and crew really made this show fantastic. The singing and acting was superb especially the main characters. The show didn't have any showy special effects or other distractions it was pure talent that made the show so great. Must-see for everyone.

In the beginning it seemed hard to clearly understand what the performers were singing/saying but seemed to get better. Otherwise the performance was great.

I cannot express just how amazing this show was. The performers have 150% with the acting and definitely the singing. It was great and I d encourage anyone to go see this!

I would definitely recommend going to see this show. Just check to see if there are any subs for the night. I had the misfortune of seeing an understudy for the role of Celie. She seemed out of it the entire time. Almost as if she was tired or maybe preoccupied with remembering her blocking. It almost ruined the whole thing for me...but then Sophia stepped on stage. Carrie Compere stole the show!

A very simple set design really allows the performers to be front and center. The sound at Pantages isn't superior but the incredible singing voices and acting skills made up for it all. The audience was standing and cheering multiple times during the night.

The play and the performances were great. However, there was a BIG disappointment with the sound. We sat up in the Mezzanine section and none of the five people in our group, nor the people in front of us could make out the words that were being sung. We related this plight to one of the employees and were told that they were aware of the issue with the sound and that it was not on the end of the Pantages theatre but of the production itself. At intermission, we went to the services department and got some amplifiers which made all the difference.

Individual performers were really good, but overall the musical is messy with no memorable moments or songs. One set the entire musical with chairs being a focal point, but no explanation for so many chairs is given via spoken lines or verse. Key moments from the story are glossed over and treated as asides already happening out of view and merely mentioned onstage. Constant coming and going of people and events, blending together; everyone dressed alike; and the whole show just seems a confusing mess. Glad I saw it but would not recommend it to anyone. Has potential to be good but the adaptation and stage direction are poor.

I've seen quite a few of these Broadway Series shows and out of all of them, I liked The Color Purple the least. There were absolutely no set changes and the costumes only changed once after intermission. The singing and acting was very good but it was mostly all singing and very little acting. It almost reminded me of an opera. However I was not at all disappointed with the actors' performances. They all did an outstanding job.

Acting and singing were top notch, play was harder to understand what was going on than that movie. Definitely I d recommend the movie over the play, or at least see the movie before the play to be able to follow what s going on.

The Color Purple Revival was an amazing show with a fantastic cast! I laughed and cried. The story was how I remembered from years ago when I saw the movie but the stage version is softer. You are missing out if you don t see this show. It s certainly one of the best I ve ever seen.

The play, acting, scenery, movement was fabulous. Everything moved with intention and there were no down times except intermission. My only small complaint was rhe vocal enunciation. Particularly the lower register performers (men and altos). It was sometimes hard to understand the words of the songs that were being said. I was in mid orchestra seating so I felt like I should be able to understand all words. Other than that I thouroughly enjoyed the performance and would see it again if I could.
