The overall content and meaning of the play was very good but I expected more. It was very low budget and I could hardly hear what they were saying it was more like a school play than an off broadway play

I thought plantanos and collard greens was very funny. This topic is a dinner table discussion within the black community, so it was interesting to see it acted out on stage. Much of what was discussed is commonly known so it wasn't very eye opening but a nice night out nonetheless.

This play was exceptional and educational at the same time. I like all of the characters and the humor in the play was timely and very funny. Platonos and Collard Greens did a very good job easing the tension of social issues between Latino and Black culture. I liked it a lot, it was different than the typical stories. Great Job!

I wholeheartedly enjoyed Saturday night s production of Platanos & Collard Greens. Personally it hit home in many ways; it was hilariously funny with many historical humors that many of us hide behind. The show s honesty took me on a voyage of my life now as an African American. I reflected back to my Haitian and Dominican ancestry. The play at times was sad due to the idiosyncrasy that holds us back as one; nevertheless it exposes this behavior so we can improve as one. I love the entire cast, they successfully portrayed the characters of the storyline!

Platanos & Collard Greens was simply delightful. It was insightful, thought provoking and humoress. P & CG has something for everyone in its multigenerational scope and presentation as it tackles historical and present day mindsets and issues. You can't help but comes away a little wiser, and definitely with a smile.

Platanos & Collard Greens was an amazing play. It has been a while since I've seen anything that was funny, romantic and challenge you to think critically about issues. Racism is still an issue that our world is dealing with today and Platanos & Collard Greens did an excellent job in terms of helping you to view the issues through the eyes of both the African American and the Hispanic. The details they discussed on the history of the issues of racism in America was insightful. It is definitely a play I will never forget and I will recommend this play to all my friends.

It was great, the way they presented the whole plot was well organized and structure. One thing that i think they could improve is the overused mocking, by this i mean some parts of the play were serious but because of the amuzing touch maybe some people didn't take as serious as it was. Great show would definitely recommended and would love to go and see it again.

The production for the show is minimal however, it doesn't take away from the point and message that is being presented. My friend said that the information/history on the slave trade in the Carribean was redundant for her yet it was all new to me.

We weren't sure if we were really going to enjoy this off Broadway play. I had heard mixed reviews. I now think the people that didn't enjoy it, were looking for scenery, costumes etc. There is none, but it was funny, thought provoking and refreshing. Yes you can make good theater without lots of money and production. Poetry Jam fans should definitely see it. For teens to adults. The cast changes but we saw Edgar Moore Jr, Karina Ortiz, Raqiyah Mays, BE Rivers and Preston Taylor who were all great!

The show was definitely something I didn't expect to watch. There was a lot of mention of how two cultures who have such a similar cultural past have now divided themselves. The modern take on interracial love and misunderstanding concepts of race is very interesting. Go watch it!

this play brought to light a lot of ''hidden prejudices'' that often keep people from finding true love. This play proves that as far as society has come in terms racial equality, there is much work to be done. When you can't bring your boyfriend/girlfriend home to meet the family because you will be disowned, that is a sin and a crime in my opinion. We were ALL created in GOD's image! We need to stop dwelling on skin color and focus on pressing issues like keeping a job and a roof over our heads. Together we can overcome all things!

C&P was an excellent experience. I was laughing out-loud while getting a dosage of education. Well...not exactly me since I am in a color blind relationship, but I am sure it touched many of the attendees, who most likely can identify themselves with the main characters. Before the show began and as I looked back and up from my front row sit, I saw a sea of what it seemed like inter-racial couples. It was Valentine's day!

I went to see this play over 5 years ago and was completely blown away by the play content, or so I thought. But what I realize now was that the play theme and content was not what riveted my attention to the stage at the time. The acting back then was superb. I went to see the play again on Valentines Day 2010 with someone who had never seen it, and I was so dissapointed in the new cast. The delivery from assorted members went from overly dramatic (like the monologue from the black woman running for political office) to singsong (like Freeman's "Pop" delivering lines while walking the floor like a caged panther). It seemed like they have done the play too many times and the originality of the script is lost to them forever. the content of this play is so important but this cast is really in need of a fresh revue.

THERE WERE A FEW SCENES THAT WERE PRETTY FUNNY BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE UP FOR THE REST OF THE PLAY BEING VERY LOW BUDGET. IT REMINDED ME OF A GRAMMAR SCHOOL PLAY. VERY SMALL THEATRE, NO LEG ROOM ( AND IM A PRETTY SMALL WOMAN) SEATS WERE NOT COMFORTABLE, NO BACKGROUNDS ON THE STAGE. JUST SOME KIDS AND A FEW CHAIRS :/

The show is poorly written and has no solid plot format. Can love between Hispanics and Afro-Americans survive? These characters are not all that interested in answering that question because there is nothing more than a flimsy relationship between them. There is also no sets so I am confused as to where my money went because there are neither props nor costumes to pay for.

The play was very comedic, entertaining, informed and engaging. Historically sensitive racial dynamics were addressed in a very creative and thought provoking manner. However, the sensitivity of the subject matter was softened by the romantic, playful and relevant way in which it was introduced. I am an African American woman currently engaged to a Hispanic man, and the found the issues and the way in which they were presented to be right on. It is certainly a must see.

I could tell the content of they play was great but at the sound was horrific. I was at the Palace Theatre in Albany New York. The actors did not have individual microphones so you could barely hear them. If we laughed, then we missed the next three lines. It really took a lot of concentration and effort on our part.

I treated my boyfriend for his birthday, and also my mother, because she was in town and we always attend various on & off broadway plays. My boyfriend mentioned that the play reminded him of the high school plays & that was a great comparison. It was a very entertaining play, but I did think it was going to be different in terms of content and format. My boyfriend and I want to see the play with a group of friends. What I also liked, in reference to the production company, is that they have a student program where young kids could win a chance to be cast in the play. There were two kids, 7th and 8th graders, who won & performed during the show we attended. The kids were very good, very comfortable & funny & realistic in their roles. That was one of the best parts of the production...I'm always for empowering the kids!! I do recommend it, because it was well cast, entertaining and educational for pre-teens and adults. Enjoy!!

I was given tickets as a Valentine's gift and didn't know what to expect. Usually my husband does not go to plays and I didn't know what to expect. I was very happy that we both enjoyed the play. It brought back memories when we were growing up in the 70"s and we both could relate to the material acted out. This play was educational, funny, and dramatic. I loved the mixture of the old and new culture. I saw this play about six years ago. Even thou this actor did a great job, It perhaps may be more effective to have a darker hue/black person play the lead role. The cast did a spectacular job. My husband and I saw Platanos and Collard Greens on Saturday and were quite impressed with the cast and the story line. We are planning to get tickets for our "young adult" children, as well as a couple of neices and nephews. Keep up the good work!

I was recommended to go see this show and since it was my sister's birthday I figure I take her to see it. I had no idea what it was about just that it was related to my culture; the Dominican culture. We were truly amazed with the performance and really impressed with the actors and actresses and how they portrayed both cultures. It is a show that really educates and entertains at the same time. If you grew up in an urban setting you can relate and if you come from a multicultural background you can also relate. The show really stressed the similarity between Dominicans and African Americans. As an educator myself I'm aware of my background but so many of my relatives are just like the ones in the show. They are very ignorant and still in denial that we have a mixture of cultures. The producer did a great job and I would definitely recommend this show to my friends. It was hysterical and sooo entertaining. Thanks for a great night of laughter and insight into our culture.

I attended the play with my husband and 13 yr old daughter. We all enjoyed the play. The subject matter was rather interesting. I am from Honduras my husband is fron Jamaica. We could relate with some of the issues exhibited in the play. I am very glad to have been able to catch the play and hope that it continues. It was funny and was a pleasure to sit through the play.

My friends and I attended the play and we all enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the play has been around for awhile and some of us were not aware of it. Thank God, one of our friends knew about the play and informed it has been around for a couple of years and we were fortunate to get to see it. The play touched the day to day reality that's happening around us. It is small cast play and well worth it and I would recommended it to teenagers on up. Great!!!

This play was funny from beginning to end. It definitely opens your eyes to the racism within cultures.

I took my husband to see this play as his first foray into the live theatre here. He thoroughly enjoyed it since the message was very deep. His one regret is that our sons (teenage) should have seen it too and I agree. This was not what I expected it to be since the message is really for the young, I still enjoyed the show. It would be great to market this show to schools (especially inner city) since the mix of culture there would really appreciate this message.

This show featured stellar comedy throughout! Truly laugh-out-loud quality! Preston Taylor gave an amazing performance! My family and I definitely look forward to seeing great things from him in the future. Beyond the comedy, the premise, the plot, just .... fizzle... Why? The story line and message were lost in the heavy handed doses of historical and political rhetoric. Viewers attend a show to be entertained and perhaps, to learn something new and be reminded of an important lesson. An ongoing game of who can spout facts the fastest is perhaps not the best way to deliver new info or important lessons. Nevertheless, the entire cast of characters were fully believable, very entertaining, and 100% 'relatable'... save for one vital character - the lead male! There seemed to be z e r o basis for his random spurts of personal commentary. Instead, he came off as more of a defunct narrator that was haphazardly squeezed into a character role with neither rhyme nor reason. Perhaps if his character had been setup as part cast character & part narrator (just to the audience), it might have helped the audience in perceiving a more fluid story. Instead as every other character participated in the unfolding tale, the lead male constantly went off on his own tangents and was only reared back into the story by another character just before crucial performance numbers. A great bit of the love story itself and drama surrounding it was lost as a result of this. My family and I left the theatre thoroughly confused as to the true message being portrayed "Are they really suggesting that the solution is to claim all Hispanic people as Blacks? Under the premise of combined African heritage at that? What? Do the basic Spanish-Native mixes no longer count? So our Mayans are Blacks too now?" As George would say, "Ta loco!". As a Caribbean whose culture is primarily based on celebrating differences above all, the entire notion is offensive. Everyone doesn't need to be lumped together and stripped of the differences that make them unique in order to get along - too many of my Black American friends have lost sight of that claiming "Girl, please, you know you Black, like all the rest of us!". Then a second later, they stare at me in awe and incredulity because "You've never eaten grits? Y'all don't eat soul food 'round the holidays?" "Uhm, No. We Belizeans would rather have some good panades, tamales, salbutes ANY day!" "Pana whah? Whatever, y'all people just weird, but you still Black girl!". Meanwhile, growing up in Flatbush it was widely understood that it is an insult to refer to someone as anything other than their given nationality. Not because being something else was bad, but rather because it was an insult to national pride. In fact, it's still a fairly large compliment to know the correct nationality of a Caribbean you've just met, "But eh? You dah Trini nuh?" "Yes, yes, ah how you know?" "Mum, yuh smell fresh, fresh ah delicious Paloori, nuh!" "haHaHA! ::: Big Smile :::". Overall an A+ for comedy, an A for effort, and a C- for execution. Simply put, celebrating differences trumps arbitrary lumping any day. After all, a melting pot without distinct flavors makes for a fairly unappetizing lump of goo.
