Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett

COURTNEY BARNETT IN CONCERT:Australian alt-rock up-and-comer Courtney Barnett is quickly making a name for herself with her witty lyrics and deadpan vocal delivery. Fans of clever wordplay and surprising lyrical juxtaposition will find much to love in jangly gems like "Avant Gardener" and "History Eraser", and Barnett's performance style -- a mixture of shambling ease and surprising precision -- perfectly complements the complex personality she reveals through her music. Barnett is still a relative newcomer, but she's already generated significant excitement for future tour dates with pitch-perfect performances at  showcases around the world.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Born in Melbourne, Barnett attended the Tasmanian School of Art before returning to her hometown to pursue music full-time.

Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile both are performers who somehow are even better live then recorded. Their songs have an energy to them that is infectious with the audience. Both performers engaged the audience in a shy way. Played a good combination of songs. My only complaint was it could have gone on at least another 30 minutes. I guess that s part of it however - keep them (us) wanting more.

Channeling a Chrissie Hynde/Neil Young vibe, Courtney and Kurt played an affectionate show. I m usually predisposed to liking a more energetic guitar driven blowout, but I like Courtney Barnett. It s nice to see a sweet show that was energetic but not driven by showy fireworks. It was about the music, their music, not pandering to artificial appeal, but inviting the audience into their easy going love fest.

Courtney and crew were in fine form. It wasn't a long show but it was plenty. They ripped through the set mostly from their last album. The place was packed and the folks see all rocking.

I went in to the concert already loving Courtney Burnett and she delivered all I could have asked for and more. The show had great energy and mix of songs. I really enjoyed the animations playing behind them too. The animations were visually stunning and added to the mood of the performance.

Just saw Barnett at a WXPN concert in Philly. Terriffic performance. I immediately bought her 2014 and 2015 albums from itunes. My wife and I have been listening to her non stop ever since!

Great performance by Courtney Barnett and the even more interesting opening act! However, the sound quality was horrible: Al over- powering percussion, constantly clipping highs, lots of white noise and obviously maxed out amplification made this a less enjoyable experience. Is everybody deaf nowadays?

I enjoyed seeing Courtney Barnett last year when she opened for San Fermin, this year she hit a new level in my opinion. The amount of sound and energy they got out of a three member band was intense. I'm no music expert but I give her a ton of credit for taking on the lead guitar to go with her amazing lyrics/singing. The band is an enjoyable listen on the radio but they kill it in a live venue.

I've been watching her concerts on YouTube for over a year. When I mention her to anyone they say "who?" This will not keep up. Courtney is destined to be a huge star and I was lucky to see her up close. This is good because her next tour will probably be at a bigger venue.

The concert was moved to the Knitting Factory which was probably for the best. Courtney Barnett and her band were fantastic. High energy, obviously having fun and super tight. I can't wait until she comes back to NYC to see her again.

This show was wonderful. The venue is spacious yet intimate and the acoustics were great. Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile work really well together. The songs were so beautiful and meaningful. Barnett & Vile were very charming. We had a lovely evening letting the gorgeous sounds wash over us. Great night!

Another fantastic show. Courtney improves every time we see her. The trio is tight and her voice and guitar work is spot on. This was our third time in the past 18 months seeing her and look forward to the next show.

Loved the show. Loved the attitude. Loved the lyrics (what I could decipher and remember from her cd's). Loved the guitar playing. Seems like she's trying to be Neil Young sometimes...and she's getting closer. A great show to remind us of the true energy and power of rock n roll.

Awesome show, would have liked to have known there was going to be an opening band to better anticipate my time of arrival back home since I had a 2-1/2 hour drive. Newport Music Hall doors opened late and that place looks rundown and could use a rehab. Courtney, Bones, Dave & Katie killed it.

Good show with Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett. Kurt seemed a little worn down but this is probably due to the fact that this was the 3rd to last show on the tour. (This was Thursday and they played Austin and Dallas on Friday and Saturday). Definitely catch both of them separate when they next tour solo.

Wanted to see and hear CB, KV ruined it every time he opened his mouth. I'll try to see CB solo. Bought tickets before the album was released, figured that KV was the opener. The Sea Lice were solid.

I bought these tickets for my husband's birthday. We love Courtney and Jen.... but we're kinda lukewarm on Kurt, and his vocals were way too layered for this show. But besides that, we had a blast, and will come again!

Rejuvenated by live music yet again, and where better than at the illustrious Orpheum Theatre? Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile brought their A-game to this run-down jewel of a venue, playing a concise, 90-minute set chock full of ear candy for a capacity crowd of 2,700! Jen Cloher opened with a 30-minute solo set, including a standout 'David Bowie Eyes.' Kurt and Courtney ambled onstage at a quarter till nine, with their merry band of Sea Lice in tow, digging right in with 'Only Everything' from their magnificent collabo Lotta Sea Lice! The sound tech deserves serious props, because the mix was one of the best I've ever heard at the Orph, from my aisle seat in the Orchestra, Row J. After five numbers from the record (including a spectacular 'Fear is Like a Forest,' written by Cloher), they traded off playing songs from their respective catalogues, including Vile's wry 'On Tour' and Barnett's groovy 'Dead Fox.' Kurt stretched out his solos, proving equally adept on acoustic or electric, though Courtney got more love, having celebrated her thirtieth the day before, her rhythmic prowess and vocal power on impressive display! Set proper concluded with their stirring harmonies on a cover of Belly's 'Untogether' (which also closes out their album). The first encore was a surprise, with cb and kv on stage alone for a folky rendition of Gillian Welch's 'Elvis Presley's Blues.' The Sea Lice returned to join them for 'the hits' to finish the show in a pretty pimpin' fashion, as my avant gardener might say! Friends, you would do well by your souls to get acquainted with these artists, and Lotta Sea Lice is the perfect place to begin.

I realized after the show that Kurt viles music is cool to listen to when I'm cooking dinner in the kitchen, but is way too boring to be interesting live. Maybe this act would work at a smaller venue like a coffee shop or small club, but standing in the back of a cramped theater watching him mumble and stumble on stage gave me the zzzzzzzs.

Wow, what a fantastic evening. Jen Cloher was a great opening act, she was witty, funny and amazing. Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile and the Sea Lice were just outstanding. The way they sang back and forth to the whole birthday celebration for CB, you could just feel the love in the air. Definitely a top 5 show ever!!

This was a show where my reaction was boy this sounds exactly like the album . I m looking for way better than the recorded versions. While they are a nice combo, they definitely lack the excitement of a live Courtney show

First time ever in the balcony section. Crew was very accommodating in letting us know where the restrooms and sections were. We were almost all the way to the back, which I was not expecting, since the map on the website made it look much closer to the stage. I felt like the main act was entirely too short. I get that live sounds very different from the studio versions-- but i felt like Kurt Vile and especially Courtney Barnett just flew through all their songs ending the show at a disappointing 10:30PM ( that's never happened to me at The Fox). Maybe Court had a bad day, it seemed she wasn't really into engaging the audience and she fumbled through her words when she tried or was responding to Kurt's banter. Whatever though.. it seemed like from what I overheard after the show from other attendees-- everyone was gushing and loved it.. maybe I just has higher expectations for these two talented artist putting a show together.

Was excited for this show. Love KV, like the Sea Lice collab album. Unfortunately the live performance was not good. The drummer was constantly falling out of time and playing fills that did not fit the songs. Courtney also had issues playing in time and hitting chords. When she botched a solo a song had an abrupt end. Kurt and the bassist played pretty well, it just seems there is no live cohesion yet and it made for a very awkward and unsatisfying show. KV played a few of his own songs but would trade singing lines with Courtney, which she also would not do in time and so he would not be able to sing his line on time. It ruined the songs. Many people left early. I get that KV and Courtney's charm is playing a little imperfectly and not hitting notes. This show went way beyond that. I feel like I paid to watch band practice.

HORRIBLE!!! Courtney Barnett should be embarrassed to disappoint her fans like that. 1st, she hid behind smokey, amber colored lights so you couldn t see her? What? Then it really was a Kurt Vile concert. His deep and louder voice drowned her out in every unrecognizable song they performed. She did exactly 1 hit! Didn t even bother to sing the song i wanted to hear\u2014NOBODY CARES IF YOU DON T GO TO THE PARTY! That s right Courtney...you didn t really care that we came out to your party to hear YOU sing! She didn t care..at all. Terrible, worst concert I ve been to in years!

I'm a big Courtney Barnett fan, and she did not disappoint in the slightest. She plays with a great amount of energy and interacts with the crowd with her lovable awkward personality. Most songs go along with a video that's projected on the screen behind the band, creating an awesome and visceral visual experience. Kurt Cobain was one of her influences, and he would've LOVED Courtney. She plays for about an hour and 20 minutes, and you'll love every minute of it.
