Failure

Failure are masters of textural nuance, setting themselves apart from their '90s alt-rock counterparts with painstaking attention to sound design, complex signal processing, and creative use of guitar effects. After breaking up in 1997, Failure's cult popularity steadily grew as big-name acts like A Perfect Circle and Paramore paid tribute to the band with covers of their beloved recordings, so it's no surprise that their 2014 reunion has fans chomping at the bit for a chance to see them live. It's been more than 16 years since the trio have played together, but the band's extensive rehearsals in anticipation of the tour have them ready and raring to...

I've never seen Failure before in concert, but loved their album Fantastic Planet so I was super excited to see that they were doing a reunion tour for this album. I'm so glad I bought tickets for this show, because it was absolutely amazing. Even after 20 plus years, Failure definitely can put on a great show. I was so impressed with how well they sounded, I left the show completely gushing and felt as if I'd had a legit spiritual moment during this show. Hands down one of the most intimate and beautiful concerts I've been to. If you are as much of a fan of Failure as I am, this is a tour you must attend and you are guaranteed to leave being more in awe of them as I did.

The show incredible (Torch and Hum were great). The venue was perfect. It used to be called "The Edge" back in the 1990s, were I saw The Toadies, Faith No More and Local H. The sound and view was great as I was able get a seat on the blocked-off steps just in front of the sound board. Failure played the first (new) songs from the Heart is a Monster album. They also pulled-off some hits from Comfort, Magnified and of course Fantastic Planet albums. "Enjoy the Silence" cover from their Replicants work was a cool surprise as well. Afterwords I was able to meet Failure (Ken, Greg & Kelly) for the first time. They were professional, humble and funny. There were fans there (besides myself) who were at their last show at " The Squeeze" in Ft. Lauderdale in 1997. It was like a reunion with friends. They all signed my original "Fantastic Planet" promo poster and I joked with Ken that I was looking forward to the next five albums! This is truly the most under appreciated band by the music listening populist and most hard-working and talented group of guys out there. I give them full credit for coming back after almost two decades.

I'd been waiting over 18 years to see Failure, and I was not disappointed. They performed a lot of material from their classic album "Fantastic Planet," as well as other key tracks. I'm glad that Saint Andrews Hall was once again the location for what instantly became one of my most memorable shows of all time.

A show I thought I would never get to see, it was a great performance. Ken's voice is back! They were loud and tight, there was some distortion but it was probably the venue. Traveled from Cleveland to this show and I am very glad I did. Great set list too!

The movie instead of an opening act was a great idea. It helped me understand more of where the music is coming from. It also built up anticipation for the crowd. We all went crazy as we saw scenes of Failure intertwined within the James Bond movie. By the time we could hear the opening drumline from "Another Space Song" the crowd was going crazy. When the movie screen went up to reveal Failure the crowd was ushered into a state of euphoria that had built for the last 16 years. Failure then but on the most amazing show. Just don't make us wait another 16 years. P. s. play in Cleveland next time

Failure was absolutely fantastic. Such a treat to get to see them in such a small club. The Sound was incredible which is mostly due to Ken Andrews and their Sound Guy. Watching and hearing Greg Edwards play is inspiring. Kelli Scott pounds on the drums harder than most people I watch play and his ability to play appropriately for the song never ceases to amaze me. So glad I got to see this show.

It's pretty incredible when a band stops touring and playing shows for 16 years to be able to come back and sound just like it did in the mid 90s. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards both put on outstanding performances, and never left the show feeling bored or hollow. If you enjoy mid 90s alternative, this is a show not too miss

EPIC live show. Just EPIC. Because of the breakup, it had been 18 years since Failure played the K.C. area and so many of us, myself included, had given up any hope of ever experiencing this band live again. In the band's first show in support of the just-released "The Heart is a Monster," it was like I'd been transported back to 1997 with Ken, Greg and Kellii not missing a beat. Great setlist covering all four Albums, including the rarely played title track from "Magnified" being a personal highlight. In short, if you're a fan of Failure and they're coming anywhere near you on this tour, do NOT miss that show! It truly is a magical experience not to ever be forgotten.

Got to see the band perform up close. There was some delay at the start of the concert but the event was worth the wait. Fantastic Planet is definitely their best album yet and it was fun to be a part of its 20th anniversary celebration.

I'm not exactly sure why I missed out on this band in the nineties but, I don't regret it now ! They offer a refreshing change to the Millennial crap that is being regurgitated today and that includes their oldest recordings. They have found a place in my list of favorite bands including Tool, Queens of the Stone age and A Perfect Circle which is, I know, obvious because of their ties to these bands. They offer something truly unique and real in a world of the trite and mundane! Thanks guys! Looking forward to seeing you again, soon!

Hands down, the best- sounding live show I've went to; the band was balanced completely, Ken's vocals were prominent but didn't drown out everything else, and the music was still able to be dynamic. For this tour, they ended up playing a lot from the new album, which didn't bother me only because they actually sound better live then I remember on just CD! They pulled out the classic tunes and engaged the audience in only that way nostalgia can handle. And they had some interesting visuals on LED screens behind them! Out ranged from planets to microscopic images to quick glances of the real world for every song, and it managed to match every pulse played. Openers were Torche and Hum. Torches as incredibly unbalanced sonically, which was a shame, but two songs really stuck out at me (the two were from the album Harmonicraft) and sounded really good live. Hum is a must-see, despite vocals not reaching to perfection over the band as well. These guys know how to make incredible music, the show is worth going to.

The last time I saw Hum was in 1998 at the TLA in Philly. On this co-headline bill, they opened first. They sounded every bit as fresh and tight as that night 17 years ago. The vocals were a bit too far down in the mix I felt, but everything else was spot on. I'd not seen Failure live before - and I left regretting that oversight. Unlike Hum, the vocals were crisp and on par with the guitars and drums.

I never thought in a million years that I would ever get to see this band, even with them having reformed. However, an impromptu 6 hour drive to Kansas definitely paid off in the end. For just 3 guys, the sound they produced was absolutely massive, and they played a good amount of all the fan favorites, as well as quite a few of their fantastic new songs. The energy in the room was electric, and you could really tell how happy everyone was to finally see this band, as many fans appeared quite young and were probably unable to see the band back in the 90's. After the show, a handful of us even hung around their tour bus in the hopes that the band would come say hello, and boy did they deliver. Drummer Kelli Scott was out first, and was literally holding conversations with everyone and seemed very happy to meet us and sign autographs/take pictures. Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards came out as well, and they too were extremely nice and very open to spending time with everyone and taking pictures and signing anything you had. You could just tell how appreciative everyone in this band was of their fans, and there were no jerky egos whatsoever. Overall, this was truly a night to remember and I am very glad that I made the trip to see this very special band.

Once upon a time I completely fell for the band Failure. It was around the year 2000, and by that time they had stopped touring and recording. It was almost like finding some kind of soul currency that couldn't be exchanged for a tangible experience. The song that my wife and I label "Our Song" is s Failure song, I've named pets song titles... Yeah, I'm that guy. Recently they have reunited and put out a new record. I got the opportunity to see them at Liberty Hall in Lawrence KS last night and I was a little nervous going into the show. What if this group that I had held at such a high standard disappointed me? What if the sound was just ok? What if they were rude? What if they were just running through Kansas on a Thursday and didn't care how the show went? None of that happened. The sound was perfect. The performance sounded better than the album. They were courteous, gracious and humble. Ken Andrews was spot on vocally, and his guitar and bass playing was done with textbook precision. Greg Edwards looked like a wizard wielding guitar/bass duties while playing keys and synth parts at the same time. And drummer Kellii Scott. Wow. He is truly the heart of the Failure sound, and forgive the pun, The Heart is a Monster. I finally got to see Failure. I'd wait another 15 years to have that experience.
