I loved the ambienance of HOB...the setting allowed for an intimate concert with DeLa versus a large auditorium setting seating 2,000+. They performed all my favorite DeLa songs!!

I am a HUGE De La fan so this review may be a little biased. But i thought that they were fantastic. From the moment Maseo took the stage with the backing band, the awesome Rythm Roots Allstars, i was hooked. When he made the annoucement that their landmark album 3 Feet High And Rising was now 20 years old, i started to choke up. I really did. that record means alot to me, and to see the three of them on stage still doing what they do best after 20 years, it was the greatest! De La Soul and The Roots are the best live hip hop acts out there today!

De La Soul free concert on Sunday, 5/21/2006. The Southern Comfort Music Experience (SCMX) This concert series were taking over Atlanta, GA on May 21-22 with a FREE two days music festival. For 2 days, the Centennial Olympic Park was transformed into a rocking festival filled with great music, great food and great spirits. I really enjoyed music! Especially, Hot 8 Brass Band from New Orleans provided very exciting horn music! It was so dancable. On Sunday, 5/21/2006, I was so excited with Hip Hop Unit "De La Soul". I didn't know their music very much, so I wanted to listend to them. They were very amazing, and made a lot of audience attractive. I went there by myself and enjoyed dacing and singing and waving hands in front rows with Bang-Bang grooving rhythm. lol yeah!! The dmission was free! I really love American life because I can listen to great music such as De La Soul with free of charge! I give my respect to American companies' benefit sponserships. Interestingly, there were many guys in the audience because De La Souls was KOOL. Yes, they were Kool.

This is the second time I have seen De La in Dallas, and they impressed once again. This time they had The Rhythm Roots All-Stars to help them out, and the show was flawless. Dope beats, dope rhymes; what more could you want!

De La still got it. Energy, connectivity, and orginal bomb ass lyrics culminated the whole night. Afterwards, you could find yourself hitting up a night cap at the Foundation room where De La were hanging out. Had a great conversation and offered my gratitude for all their years of work. The D.J. played some old school jams which set the foundation for the rest of the night.

De La Soul did not dissapoint. I have followed this group since i heard Plug Tunning on Red Alert Show in 1988. This is pre 3 feet high and rising. They did a good mix of music from all albums, including a mini tribute to J-Dilla for true hip hop fans this will make sense. They also did Rock Box to salute Run-DMC and the late JMJ. They also did an amazing pefromance of Feels Good Inc. The signicance of this Tour is that they perform with a Live Band.

De La Soul is definitely not dead. 20 years ago they released 3 Feet High and Rising and has continually killed the game. Their onstage performance was one of the best shows Ive been too. They killed the show with just a 2 emcee and DJ set and completely destroyed it with the backing of the Rhythm Roots All Star Band. A lot of our classic groups have broken up and new music today is just lacking in lyricism, subject matter, and professionalism but De La Soul has given hip hop an insurance policy letting fans know we can always go back to classics.

Yes, this concert was excellent - they knew how to work a crowd - when they finally came on stage after 11 pm!!! We arrived at the House of Blues at 8 pm and had no idea we'd be waiting 3 hours to actually see De La Soul. There were some good openers, but between the 2 openers you had to wait about 30-40 minutes before the next act. My husband had to be at work at 5 am Saturday morning. Had we known they wouldn't hit the stage until 11 pm, we wouldn't have bought tickets to this one. My husband has waited to see De La Soul for awhile and this was a little disappointing (due to how long it took them to hit the stage). We had to leave half way through the concert because of the hour drive home. In the future, we'll remember not to arrive so early and hopefully neither of us will have to work so early the next morning!

They were better before but overall a good show. they were and hour late. The opening act was ok until they brought the pregnant girl on stage to dance. What is up with that? She was supposively the friend of Maceo. They also at tthe same time brought out an older lady maybe her mom or grandmother. It made no sense at all.

Ok. I was really anticipating De La Soul's 9:30 show at the Key Club on July 24. What I didn't know is that there would be 6 opening acts with a whole lotta down time in between the first and the next 5 and then De La Soul would come out at 12:30. I'm all for an opener and I didn't figure they'd start right away. But, come on. I get that they're not going to post their exact start time so that the up and comers get some airtime, but it was toooooo much and toooooooo long. And, aside from Kenan Bell, I wasn't feeling any of the bands. When De La Soul came out, they were great but the bubble had kind of already burst. Hows about 3 openers (if that) next time y'all? And, a note for the ladies...leave the stilettos and home and sport the Pumas instead...

It is not everyday you see a group stand together for 20 years a display talent with innovation and dedication. Hip hop is not died! De La Soul kept it alive with every cell in their body. These cats threw down so hard that it was easy to forgive them for being a little late. They were virtually non-stop. Their energy and the crowd's energy mingled to make the roof pop off and slam back down. Their love of hip hop, for what they do, and for our community is as evident as when they first started in the game. Their skills demonstrated why they are still in the game. Besides the entertainment value, this concert should have been recorded as a training for all the wannabes--wanna be famous, wanna be a Gangster, wanna be paid--and all those other wannabes who make us even ask the question, "Is hip hop dead," and those coming up who think they know what hip hop is based on the wannabes. If the venue had been a dry venue, I would have brought my children and told them to sit back and learn.

The musical memories came flooding back as De La SOUL took the crowd through all the monster hits. The crowd responded en masse with a clapping rapping sing-along good time had by all. I have been to several De La Soul performances since the early 1990's. Their music is timeless and has influenced numerous groups. Their performance at the Howard Theater was a good opportunity to witness "real" Hip Hop while it's still available. De La was on stage for a bit over an hour (too short), but that was expected. Also, I don't believe they performed a single track off their upcoming album. On a positive note, Maseo got the crowd jumping with a "tribute" to old school Hip Hop, including Tribe Called Quest. If you are a true Hip Hop head, you are doing yourself a disservice if you have never seen De La live.

De La Soul was celebrating 25 years of music as a group and within a genre that doesn't have many groups that can boast this kind of longevity. Needless to say they didn't disappoint. The chemistry between plug 1,2 and 3 shows they are more than a group but actually brothers. It is this kind of commitment the comes across in their music and let's you know the daisy age will be here for another 25.

This Dilla event was extremely disappointing. "Artists" we'd never heard of performed 1 or 2 songs at a time in a round robin type order. There were a couple of exceptions like Oddisee and J. Sands. It was essentially an over-hyped college talent show. I was not entertained, more like frustrated and annoyed, especially by these female singers that tried to out do each other by hitting notes only perceptable by dogs and Mariah Carey. The DJ set by DJ Mick Boogie got people interested as he cut & scratched Dilla jams, but the electro-violin of Miguel somebody or another had most of scratching our heads. Bilal came out to cover Black Thought's spot in the rotation, but seemed to be grossly unprepared and improvised a bunch of freestyle singing. Ouch, my poor ears. De La Soul was the only positive- all 11 minutes of their 3 song set. Bottom line- not at all what I expected or hoped for.

Almost 3 hours of music included just two numbers from De La Soul and zero from Black Thought (allegedly had another commitment even though he was on the bill from the jump and there was no indication before the announcement during the concert that he would not perform). So a $30 ticket ($40+ with surcharges) got you some B- and C-level hip hop acts and almost nothing from the "headliners".

Okay, this is the second time that I have went to see De La. Both times the show started at 7:00pm and both times (and especially this time) De La Soul didn't come on stage until close to midnight. Then in this case they closed the theater at 12:30am. Dres from Black Sheep joined them on stage this time and he ripped it up. The problem is that De La's portfolio is so vast that they just scratched the surface in the minute amount of time that was allowed. That was disappointing. Also Mase knocked his laptop over and the music stopped for about 10 minutes. Wow. These guys are supposed to be the Hip Hop standard and they put on an amateur display. Big ups to Special Ed and Jeru, they kept the fire burning. PR and CL, uh, not so much and they were my favorites. Mick Boogie is one of the hottest DJ's on the planet right now. Keepers should always include him in their showcases. People should come out and support this venue.

Once again, Akron's Keepers of the Art (KOTA) put on yet another excellent, drama-free, awesome night of Hip-Hop!! The 5th Hip-Hop Showcase may have been the best one yet, and if not the best then definitely in the top 2! All original elements of the culture were represented: b-boying, mc'ing, dj'ing, and graffiti art (in the form of digital backdrop imagery while the artists performed). Great true school acts and each performed magnificently, especially my favorite group De La Soul! I have 2 criticisms, one small and one bigger. As awesome a venue as the venerable Civic Theatre is, this review would garner a 5 star rating if it were held in the Lock 3 pavilion as has been the case the previous 4 years. However, hopefully this will open more opportunities for more hip-hop shows at the Civic. Also, the After Party was pretty terrible-charging $15 for a party in a hallway is NOT the move! Other than those 2 things, this was a perfect event!

I loved-loved-loved the show. The performance was without a doubt, LIVE. De La Soul put on a wonderful show, i felt like I was in a dream. The hype before the show was even exciting, people were taking things back to the old school by break dancing. I support real hip hop, especially old school even though I was born just 2 years after De La began. Grown folks ask me "what you know about....?" I say 'good music has no age limit'. Great artists like De La Soul have been doing their job by outreaching. They have this certain vibe to them, that when you hear just one song - you know exactly who they are! that is hip hop.

May I preface this review by saying this is my favorite hip hop group to lay a track down. From the onset I knew looking at this show objectively would become an exercise in futility as I found my love for these three trendsetters rekindled by the first scratch from Maseo. This show was intended to celebrate their 20 year anniversary of the groundbreaking album, "Three Feet High and Rising". Celebrate was indeed their achievement, and they pulled the eclectic crowd in with them. They spanned their catalog with an effortless flow from song to song, as the three merry pranksters bounced their middle aged posteriors around the stage like a group of weed laced teenagers. Although never scared to confront a serious topic (see their 2001 album, "A.O.I. Bionix"), this show was purely for the light of heart, and feet. Staying still was as difficult a task as searching First Avenue's dingy lighting for where the herbal smoke scent was rising from. Plain and simple, De La Soul killed it. It was wonderful to catch up after many a year, and dead hair follicles, with three soulful "buddies".

Kenan Bell opened. He was different, but I was feelin' the beats and the lyrics. I purchased the CD and it was just as good. Great stage presence and he got the crowd involved. Maceo's artist is raw. He is true hip-hop. Raps with a message and/or a story. No 'Stanky Legs' or 'I'm a Jerk.' Finally a real hip-hop artist. I anticipate his album. De La Soul after 20 years is still rising. They hit on all the greats. Talked a little too much, but DAMN is was great to see them still together and still making music. I would never miss the opportunity to see a De La concert...and if you miss this...then you lose.

Fams of the group got a chance to hear favorites like Jenifah, Potholes and Saturdays and I am sure the many folks just our for a good time could recall songs like Me Myself and I and Ooh Ooh. For all of you real hip hop fans who remember when hip hop was a form of expression and represented the society's issues and difficulties of the time you will appreciate this show. It takes you back to when lyrics actually meant something instead of the garbage that is played on the radio today. A time when entertainers actually had to have talent to become famous....and these guys definitely have the talent.

The show was awesome! They sounded as good as they did in 1989! Kenan Bell was the opening band and they were great. I would have liked to have heard them play a bit longer. We actually talked to Kenan Bell after the show and bought a CD which I highly recommend.

De La Soul is on their 20 year anniversary tour. The show was hot - kinda old school vibe - just straight MCing. Good to see Maceo comin from behind the tables and rocking the crowd with real energy. "Rock Ko.Kane Flow" and "Me Myself & I" got the biggest crowd responses. Openers were eh. De La kept the set short, but I guess that's how you keep the crowd wanting more?

This event was fun but nothing special. De La was only on stage for about an hour - not long enough for the price of the tickets. Also, while performing most of their songs they stopped about halfway through, they would play a song for about a minute (if that) and then switch. Overall I was left unsatisfied.

Real Hip-Hop was in da buildin'. However, it was pretty short. Bearly an hour of music. I know they are older, but I did expect more.

All hail the kings of the Daist age a.k.a Eternal Hip-Hop Icons. Pos, Truegoy and Mace are what the essence of Hip Hop is... TIMELESS. The energy that's brought to the stage is if standing in Union Square or the LQ seeing them for the first time with one exception the shows gotten better and better! No extra high jinks just HIP-HOP as if it was poured out of a Vile of Divine elixir that allows your mind to melt and be one with the collective and enjoy Hip Hop as Hip Hop was meant to be enjoyed....FELT!!!!!

Best night of my life. Plain and simple. After 25 years as a group, they still have fun, they're still together, and they're still innovative. The show was incredible. They were backed by the Rhythm Roots live band which made it even more awesome. Opening acts were surprisingly good too (Kenan Bell, Bill Ray, and Buckshot). I'd go see De La every day of my life if I could until I was 80.

I thougt the music was so loud at this concert. I know it's rap and all, but the music was so loud I could'nt hear the words. My head started to hurt and I thought my ear drums would burst. Do they do sound checks in the auditorium, maybe the auditoriums to small for that type of sound system. Needless to say we left early, what a waste of 80 dollars and 2 and a half hours.

I was able to stand at the very middle front of the masquerade so i got to enjoy the entire concert without anyone blocking my view or nudging me. All of the acts that came before were amazing and kept the spirit alive all the way until De La came out. A half of A Tribe Called Quest came and the crowd went crazy!!

Show started way too late, but it was worth the wait to hear De La perform with a 10 piece band and play the classics. The crowd seemed kind of out of it but De La still worked their tails off. They did their best to keep the people into it by keeping them involved the whole time. Go see this!
