It's a fun gay ol' time. The scores were well done and the way that the music flowed with the dialogue to convey all the emotion that Ms. Bechdel packed into her comic about her life. I'd come see it again in a heartbeat.

Fun Home is a timely and necessary play. The story, while sad , is true for so many people trapped in life. The music adds emotion to the story. The song Ring of Keys sung by the young artist captured my heart.

Fun Home is one of the strongest, most emotional musicals I have ever seen. This show mixes humor with tragedy and finds a way to convey so much depth in a concise period of time. Especially with the current climate in the country, the messages of acceptance and overcoming tumultuous life events are remarkably pertinent. The honesty of the awkwardness and innocence create the most wonderful character. This combined with a phenomenal score makes this theatrical experience fly by. The flow of the performance is perfect and keeps the audience captivated throughout. My only negative thought is that I am disappointed that I will not be able to see this musical 100 more times. Thank you for this trip into Allison's life, and for helping me connect even more with my family.

Thanks for a most enjoyable matinee performance of "Fun Home" this past Sunday, 12.4.2016, at the Fisher Theatre, Detroit. The play exceeded expectations for all four of us in attendance. Definitely a must see play.

Not a weak link in this amazing cast. This show was tight from open to close. It is a heart-wrenching, multi-faceted musical like you've never seen before. Abby Corrigan as Medium Alison is a stand out in the cast.

Story was poignant but the gay part was stressed too much. Children were cute but their voices were not distinct. Technical effects were good.

Recently saw "Fun Home" at the Durham Performing Arts Center and was exceptionally moved by this beautiful, heartfelt, thought-provoking musical. The story was universal-- a daughter's search for the truth of who her late father really was while coming to terms with her own identity. All in all, beautifully performed by an excellent cast. Loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in contemporary musical theatre.

I didn't realize the power of the story told in this musical. Dysfunctional family and flawed characters that are, at the same time, so very relatable. The music carries the story forward making this more like an opera. The performances were excellent.

Went expecting to see a comedy, left disappointed and depressed. Terrible story with misleading title. Don't bother with this one, stay home and watch reruns.

Great story well acted with outstanding music as well as timing for addressing issues. Shows you that as you raise your kids hug them and make them realize they are wanted.

One of the best plays I've ever seen. Father day/ daughter relationship so moving. Perfect balance of humor and tragedy. A truly beautiful coming of age and identity clarifying story. Not to be missed!

The honesty of the acting was sublime. The awkwardness of that first crush, the first kiss, the first visit home to the parents, the difficulty of stealing a real conversation with loved ones from the busy-ness and chatter. Kudos.

Talented cast. Nice message but hated this musical. Dumb corny music and story line. Also very annoyed they hold the audience captive asking for money at the end.

It's a rare musical that can evoke both tears and laughter in equal measure. Fun Home takes you inside the world of a real life lesbian cartoonist to watch her coming to grips with her family story and her own coming out story. Insightful and poignant, Fun Home is fully engaging. The ensemble of child actors is talented and memorable.

This is a very powerful chamber musical, it is easy to see how attending in a smaller venue increases the emotional impact. However seeing it in such a large venue lessens the impact. The performances were very strong but the show does not translate well into cavernous spaces. So, if you see it, splurge and get seats up close!

What a beautifully written and musicalized piece of theater, taking us through a process-of-becoming in these character's lives which is both heart-breaking and exhilarating. I left the theater feeling so moved, albeit saddened, and yet feeling so empowered by the experience of witnessing these characters discovering \u2026 and uncovering \u2026 their truths. Days later, and I still am resonating to FUN HOME's intimacy as it engages its audience into such a personal depth of self-discovery. What a truly wonderful accomplishment for the cast, the staging, the writing and the musical composition to accomplish such a conveyance of heartfelt intimacy, particularly in the cavernous Boston Opera House. (A smaller venue would've been preferred, in my opinion, but this cast and staging made it work!) Bravo to all connected with FUN HOME! I'm trying to spread my recommendation to all that I know. It's a must-see!

I did not know what to expect, since I hadn't read anything about the show. It was phenomenal. The cast was outstanding - great acting. The story line was haunting, but presented with humor and heart. I actually liked the story line better than Rent - stunning. Rates up there with my favorites.

Saw this at ASU Gammage on opening night. It is such a good show. The actors were fantastic. The story was captivating. The music was excellent. It has serious subject matter which was fine with me and my daughter but some might find it to be too "heavy."

it is a true art form to find comedy, wit and melody out of a tragedy. the author/writer of fun home made it so. I love musicals and am glad I went to see this one.

In a time of big productions, it was nice to be part of an intimate show that reminds us what it means to be human. Through Alison's story we observe the masks that create distance in many of our families and we experience her learning to define who she is for herself. The songs are fun and thoughtful and the acting was impeccable. You can't help but be touched by this story.

We've seen many Broadway shows. This was the worst hands down. Sad, depressing script. Not the kind of show you would want to take your kids to. Or your mom and dad. Or anyone for that matter. It was just a little too real. Singing and acting was just ok. Don't waste your time. See something that is fun.

I went with my husband and 13 year old son to this play. We read the description and thought we were going to have a great family night out for the holidays. We excitedly purchased 3rd row seats for over $300. NO WHERE in the description did it mention ANYTHING about this being a play regarding gays. I had no idea I was going to be taking my son to a place where they act out how a grown family man has affairs with under aged boys and gives one alcohol!! Then the daughter progresses through life and realizes she gay when she gets to college. That scene, showing them going to bed!! In front of my 13 year old son! Really! He looked at us like we were nuts for having picked a show that portrayed that content. He was so uncomfortable. We were all so confused. We could have chosen a play more suited for our family had we been properly informed of the true content. We were just very disappointed that the Fisher Theater felt they had to omit the core of the play from the description provided on their website.

This did NOT work for me. Singing and dialogue on top of each other, a lot of the singing was screechy, and frankly I didn't get the point of the whole thing. I did not find the father abusive, she discovers she is gay and everyone accepts her, so what?

I have never seen a musical quite like Fun Home. I really enjoyed it though it wasn't my favorite since I found the setting a bit confusing at times. Having the orchestra on the stage was awesome. I also loved having the main character there the whole time.

The story focuses on a complicated father-daughter relationship. The daughter, Allison, is presented simultaneously at three points in life: a child, a college student, and an adult-trying to make sense of it all. Despite the name "Fun Home", this play is a heavy, adult drama. You will likely leave the theater feeling entertained but a bit sad.
