I thought the concert was top notch from beginning to end. The price was right for such a venue. I am glad to see such cultural offerings from the DC Government and US Park Service. The bands delivered as expected with energy and a "sermon" to boot. If you missed this concert, you may want to review the schedule of the Carter Barron for other gems that will come this way (DC).

I wished Steve Arrington was with Slave and the group would have played longer. Other than that the music was flowing and the crowd was groovin. Bring back the OLD SCHOOL MUSIC.

Confunkshun, Zapp & Slave were all fantastic! It was great to hear and see "live band music. Just about everyone in the audience were on their feet during some parts of the show. It was great to see Zapp performing once again after the loss of "Roger." Michael Cooper of Confunkshun still has that dynamic voice!!

The concert was good. Zapp put on an excellent performance. I hope they are brought back as the headliner. They have a high energy that brought the audience to their feet throughout their performance. Confunkshun was good too. It was a pleasure listening to the songs I haven't heard in a while. They were very entertaining and Michael Cooper still sounds great.

Slave got us started, but Zap did not make us get up and party. They seem to be stuck in the 80's, they changed suits on stage (that has been played to death) plus why have on two suits when it's 90+ degrees? Then there was this old school shout out to the bird dance, we (us DC people did not do the bird) I saw the Time do it on Prince's Purple Rain it was goofy then and it's goofy now. BUT CONFUNKSUN!!!! WEREOFF THA' HOOK!!!!!!!. They were tight the vocals excellent the BAND was fantastic. They definitely should be called back!!!! I LOVED IT AND THEM!!!!! I had to go home and take a shower, wash my hair I had danced so much. A+++++++++++++++++++++

What a great show. All three groups were superior. Slave was a nice opener, plenty of energy to start. ZAPP just came on and put the show on the map. They entertained us to the maximum. Outstanding job. Then came ConFunkShun - they were on point too. ConFunkShun has a bass player that even Jimmie Hendrix would have loved. This bass player was superb and just kicked off one jam right behind the other during his introduction moment. I'm so glad I was there to enjoy it!

The show was nice overall. We especially enjoyed Slave, who opened the show. Slave sang all of their hits and really had the crowd grooving. We were a little disappointed with Zapp because they did more dancing rather than singing. However when they sang "Computer Love", that was awesome when Shirley Murdock joined them on stage--she sounded so good! Confunkshun started out a little slow but they produced in the end. I think it is nice that affordable shows are offered in this bad economy.

The accoustics in the Carter Barron was amazing. The 3 groups were professional and they sounded better than their CDs. Parking lot was conviently close. The security maintained crowd control. The entire event was a complete joy under an amazing moonlit ski. I'm looking forward to attending more events at the Carter Barron.

The show of all shows.....This was the show to be at if you were in DC this past weekend. Slave came out and did there thing and was good, then Zappa put on a hellava show and the energy and from Zappa was great. Confunkshun was the Outstanding. Man Micheal Cooper and the group was dynamite. The Horns was perfect just like the 70's and the vocals was good. Were can you go and get 3 great acts in one arena. This is my 3rd coming and this year we brought friends along and they really enjoyed the it. Can't wait til the next event. Now tell me Carter Barron how can you top this show next year?

Once again, those of us who love Old School were not disappointed with the shows last night at the Carter Barron. SLAVE started our trip down memory lane with a medley of their awesome hits including Slide which left us all fired up and ready. ZAPP sent an electrical charge right thru our bodies, gave us "more bounce to the ounce "and had us on our feet the entire time they were on the stage. CONFUNKSHUN had a tough act to follow, but they came thru just fine and set the stage on fire as usual.

Slave was good, but they were only on for 30 minutes. Zapp is who we really went to see and although they were enteraining to watch, they didn't play their songs all the way through. They just gave you a sample of each. It wasn't like they didn't have time to play the song all the way through because they did a lot of filler stuff with other music and silly stuff with the crowd. Just wished they had played their music more. Confunkshun was tight. The band sounded so good. I didn't listen to their music back in the day, so I didn't recognize most of their songs, but the band sounded so good, I didn't care - just enjoyed listening to them play!

This was a fun night. All of the groups put on a great show. The unannounce appearance of Shirley Murdock singing "Computer Love" with Zapp, was icing on the cake. Even the breaks between acts were fun. The DJ played music that made you get up off of your feet and jam. In fact for most of the night nearly everyone stayed on their feet. Good time had by all!!!

A big fan of old school funk! This show was well worth the wait!! All three bands put on a great show! The packed house was on its feet for must of the evening. Please bring more shows like this the Carter Barron, it was built with this kind of show in mind. Though the first band (Slave) was short changed on their time, the put on a good show and it only got better from the beginning. On a negative note, the lines and entrance could have been much better managed. The ticket takers didn't even take a second to make sure that the tickets were for this event we gave our home printed tickets to the guard, the never even looked at them, just waved us through.

Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! Took me back to my high school and college days. This is real music, when people could "really" sing! ConFunkShun sang all my favorites but Zapp gave the show of the night. And, the praises they gave to God were genuine, not just rote words! Thank God for the talent he blessed each group with. When they come back again I will be there!

All three groups really took us back in the day! They were ALL fantastic!!! Slave sounded great, an awesome start to the show (Slide)!!! Zapp amazed the crowd in dazzling lavender suits and multiple wardrobe changes and of course, their amazing sound (Computer Love). ConFunkShun took the show with their big band, smooth singing, and groovy moves (Fun Fun Fun)!!! The crowd was standing room only and really showed their appreciation. The Carter Barron in DC was rocking. The night was simply FANTASTIC!!! I had a ball and pretty much danced during the whole show!!! Unforgettable!!!

I didn't know what to expect from Slave, Zapp and Confunkshun after so many years. But I was pleasantly surprised with their performances. This was an absolutely GREAT show from start to finish. The bass players from Slave and Confunkshun were two of the best I've ever seen. I've seen Slave and Zapp several times in their haydays, and they haven't lost a step (taking into consideration Roger is not there. His presence would have made the show better). The only disappointment of the show is the lack of time given to Slave -- they should have given them at least another 30 minutes. Whomever gave them 15 minutes should be FIRED!!

This was a perfect line up; all old skool and to finish it up with Confunkshun was the ultimate. Slave came out and just started the party with their jams. Zapp - we will always miss Roger but they were so full of energy and just one big house party. I did not expect Confunkshun to be a party party band but MAN, THEY ROCKED! Confunkshun started a little slow and recognized it and said they were going to start all over again and start again they did! Their bass player was off the hook! He definitely came to party and his stage presence was great! When they started singing the slow songs they are known for, it just blew my mind. Michael Cooper has not lost a beat! I can't remember the other members name who does the high notes but he was simply amazing! All three groups can get my money any time they come in town!

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this show and the effort that each group made to give everyone an unforgettable experience. The show was well worth the money and was equally supported by a great facility....The Carolina Theater. All the groups were good but I would have to put Confunkshun in the "Excellent" category because of their incredible musicianship. They sound better in person than they do on their records and they can bring more than just the Funk. Zapp is probably the hardest working group on stage that I have ever seen. They left everything they had on the stage. I would like to have heard a few more songs from the Taste of Honey. I could not take my eyes off of Janice Marie Johnson. Being married, I better stop there.

It was obvious that the Zapp Band rehearsed their show. High energy, fun, lots of hits and they integrated songs that used Zapp samples into the show. Confunkshun also did a nice show but there were some low energy moments. The drummer was great! Their energetic bassist brought the energy back up by using the bass line from several hits to lead a medley of songs. It brought the show's energy back up before closing with Love Train.

I enjoyed every group. There songs were just like ther records. Performances were spectular. Costume changes by Zapp were timely. Any group could have been first are last. Each group held. there own. Zapp- It was as if Roger never left. That's hard for most groups to perform as well when a member is no longer.

I must admit that I was not to enthused about going to this show because I did not remember any songs that Slave sing, I thought that Zapp would not be able to recreate the excitment that Roger would give when he was alive and on stage and I did not remember any songs that Confunkshun sang back in the day, but boy was I WRONG!!!!! I came in on Slave so I do not have much to say about them, but ZAPP RIPPED THE ROOF OFF OF THE CARTER BARRON!!!!! I fell in love with Zap because they had just as much excitment going on if not more, their enegery was off the rictor, their voices were excellent and it just brought back so many memories!!! Confunkshun ripped the roof too, I remembered a lot of their songs too and they still got it going on. All in all it was a very good show, and yes I would go see Zapp if they ever make it back to DC!! i really enjoyed myself the entire time that I was at the Carter Barron. My best friend on the other hand lost her mind when Confunkshun hit the stage, she is a long time Confunkshun Fan, she was at Fort Dupont last year and she loved them there too, but I think that she really enjoyed them Saturday Night because we were both in front of the stage in hand distance of them and when the one guy left the stage and walk thru the audience, I thought that she was going to lose it!!!!lol

With just 3 songs, Slave left the audience a bit cold and disenchanted. Nevertheless, ZAPP and Confunksion ROCKED IT OUT!! Under the evening stars on a great night, the ZAPP band came with their A game. Still thanking God for Roger Troutman. After they left the stage, we were concerned that Confunksion wouldn't be able to follow them. However, we were mistaken!! Michael Cooper and the other original members were AWESOME. They gave a funk-filled performance that left us begging for more. It's so good to see these groups haven't lost their magical touch. I look forward to seeing them again soon!! Just please leave Slave at home and let GQ, the Ohio Players or the Barkays get the party started right!!

I had a great time at the show. It was a party from the start. The park rangers did not bother people when they wanted to dance. The music from these three groups made it impossible to stay seated. Slave started it off. I loved the songs. It was great to see Drac a member from the original group. It seems he is still going strong. Confunkson was awesome. They looked super and they could sing and get down. Mr. Cooper looked so good to me. His voice was outstanding. However, Zapp blew me away. I loved the show they put on. The crowd loved them too. Confunkshun had a hard act to follow. I was so excited that looked at Unsung again about Roger and Zapp as soon as I got home. Their performance certainly honored Roger. I want to see Zapp again. Unfortunately, I was late and missed Slave...but, showed up just in time for Zapp...they were pretty good, considering that they are missing their main ingredient, Roger. However, I could tell that they were pressed for time, because I would have liked them to jam "Dance Floor" , "More Bounce to the Ounce" and "Computer Love" a bit longer-especially since they had Shirley Murdock there with them!. But, Confunkshun exceeded expectations...they sound exactly the same as they did back in the day. They sang all of my favorite ballads, " Let me put Love on Your mind", " Love Train", and "Straight to the Heart" with serious passion. And of course, funked it up with their other tunes! We had a fabulous time! Didn't want the night to end.

This was a really good show! Slave was just ok! They could use a little more practice. Zapp came with it, their stage performance was more mature, not so much comedic. They were in good voice and the band was great. In my opinion this was one of their best performances in a long time. Michael Cooper and Confunkshun were off the HOOK! Slave and Zapp were excellent, but CONFUNKSHUN brought the house down! Like old fine wine, they've gotten better with age. Micheal Cooper, fantastic. That bass player was not only fine, but played his behind off. The tenor sang better than the album. Seeing these groups sounding better than ever truly makes me appreciate the 70's era in which I grew up in more than ever. And best of ALL, family members of ALL AGES could have attended this show. I live in Baltimore and if there is any way to get CONFUNKSHUN, SLAVE and ZAPP to perform anywhere in CHARM CITY, somebody please let me know!I WILL BE THERE with both of my sons.

Overall I thought the concert was really good, I'm from the generation when these groups first came on to the music scene and it was good to travel back down memory lane with them and the music. On the way into the Carter Barron, some men behind us were talking about the fact that they had seen Zapp after Roger Troutman the original leader was murdered by his brother and that the band wasn't so good anymore. I thought they were excellent, whatever they were going through with the death of Roger has gotten better and they were in full force.

Zapp stole the show, excellant stage prescence, all songs sounded authentic, high energy and they were very humble (Thanked GOD and Crowd all evening). The OMG Funk and R&B Festival was the funkiest, the livest, most jamming place on the planet last Saturday night. Seven amazing legendary funk and R&B bands totally rocked the Alamodome! The Stone City Band opened the show with a bang, bringing back the sounds,"sights" ...yes, "sights," and memories of Rick James! I wished they could have performed longer. They were followed by Yarbrough and Peoples who sang a medley of their R&B hits. Next up, the ever so talented Steve Arrington of Slave along with the incomparable Eric EQ Young on bass.... Show stopping Funk!!! Rose Royce took us back to the classic sweet funk ballads of the '70's!!!! No one can bring Disco, Jazz, and Funk, together as one like Brick...their horns were outstanding!!! OMG Productions/Promotions truly lives up to that name bringing the pirates of the Original Lakeside to the stage! Their music and showmanship is a pure adrenaline rush of excitement!...What a Fantastic Voyage ride that was! I love each and every one of you pirates!!! And last but not least, the iconic ConFunkShun brought the house down! Michael Cooper, Ron Moton, Felton Pilate, the Rev, and Eric EQ Young are the epitome of a beautiful mashup of FUNK and R&B!!! It doesn't get any better! I had a Funky Good Time!!!!...just wish it could have lasted longer per band!!! A must see show for lovers of live Funk music!

the show was off the hook. Y and P was okay but, I wasn't into them. Im looking forward to the 45th anniversary cruise this May. Wish I didn't have to drive from Austin, but it was worth it.

We drove from Houston for the show because my husband wanted to see Con Funk Shun. Although we enjoyed all the groups, Con Funk Shun rushed through their set. We felt like some other groups could have been shorter. I did not need tRose Royce s version of This is How we Do It. Also who was the guy that stood on the stage through the entire last set being the time keeper. It was distracting and I didn t pay to see him.

The line-up for this concert was OFF THE CHAIN. I would have given this review more than 3 stars except, I do not think that there was enough advertisement and the venue was just too large for the amount of people that attended. However, the crowd that was in attendance more than made up for the enthusiasm and respect of REAL MUSIC. Several of my friends traveled from Houston and Dallas; we had a great time. Hoping that OMG brings this same line-up to Houston, as it will be sold out!

Why did we pay for VIP because we were not treated that way. And seeing event not half sold out should have been treated better. All the walking back and forth. Rolls Royce didn't even give autographs and Con Funk band. The headliners, which we paid for didn't do as stated in advertisement. NO REAL VIP NO AUTOGRAPHS OF BIG ACTS NOR PICTURES. NEVER AGAIN.

This event was perfect for the Holidays. We were anticipating going for several weeks. My husband and I enjoy concerts and Confunkshun was great. I hope they come to Thunder Valley at the same time next year. We will definitely be there. Rolls Royce was excellent also. The young lady had great vocals and a beautiful smile. The bands were super fantastic.

Wonderful concert, enjoyed it to the max. Pano Hall is kinda small, but that made for any seat in the room being a good seat.

This concert was awesome. These guys put on a show and I was so happy to see them perform alone and with part of a ticket with other bands. They are truly my favorite band. Those slow grooves are so nice. And of course the upbeat ones as well, but I'm a little partial to the slow ones. Afterwards Michael and Felton came out to sign autographs and Michael was kind enough to let me take a picture of them. Truly classy guys. Oh yea, love my tee shirt an autographed picture of Con Funk Shun. Come back soon.

The show was great, but for the life of me , I don't understand why they have to that medley of other artist material , they have enough songs of their own that they can do without doing other people's stuff . They didn't do Lady's Wild and they didn't do it the last time they came to DC, also the last time they came here they did the same thing in performing other people's stuff, they need to stop all that, but don't get it twisted the show was great

I went for New Year's Eve 2012 in Sacramento. For $65, I expected the band to play longer instead of hearing a disc jockey most of the time. It was nice to open up with the comedian, but after that I would have preferred to hear the band and not the disc jockey. The seating was not in rows but at tables that fit 10 persons per table. My girlfriend and I would have liked to have seen more single men than couples but it's New Year's eve so that's the way it usually is. We should have gone to the Professional Guild party which is geared towards Singles.

ConFunkShun puts on an amazing show at Talking Stick! Non-stop music, choreography and great time! This was by far one of the best shows that I have been to for them. The place was packed and everyone had a great time!

This was a great concert. It brought back fond memories. I loved seeing all of the groups but Con Funk Shun turned it out! They were excellent or should I say they brought their "A" game. I was out of breath after they performed. From singing and dancing to my favorites songs, I had a blast!

A Taste of Honey was as sweet as ever and ZAPP brought the Funk to North Carolina. Confunshun deserves much, much more love! Their set was 'slammin,' including MC's classic "Dinner For Two." Both sets were great. The mellow one and the funk show. Hope to have an opportunity to see Confunkshun perform again. "California One." This funk concert was a true old school concert as done (correctly) back in the day. PS Confunkshun's bass player was and is beyond belief -- he's just that (good) badd.
