Alvvays
ALVVAYS IN CONCERT:Canadian indie pop outfit Alvvays made big moves in 2014, releasing their self-titled debut album to heaps of critical acclaim and a No. 1 spot on the US college charts before hitting the road on a highly anticipated tour. The band's live shows picked up where the album left off, featuring the wry, honest vocals of frontwoman Molly Rankin atop a gauzy wash of distorted guitar, jangly percussion, and vintage synth riffs. Rankin's unaffected voice is an ideal vessel, allowing her conflicted lyrics -- mundane and full of wonder in turns -- to really shine on songs like "Adult Diversion" and "Archie, Marry Me".

molly rankin is the best songwriter to come along since the early nineties. the show in portland was electric. when music resonates with people you can't help but respond. it was hot, sweaty and the crowd swayed in solidarity.

It was awesome seeing Alvvays, I've been wanting to for a while now. Wonderful venue at Port City Music Hall as well.

Saw Alvvays as an opener to Spoon, loved their performance. Sound was a bit muddy but Molly's vocals rang through and the keyboard was also very audible which was great. Played a lot of their new album which helped me discover a few new songs I still hadn't listened to in depth before. Would totally recommend seeing this band live.

The band was OK. Not a great live band, but not bad either. No better or worse than just listening to one of their studio albums. However, the mix was terrible. This is jangle pop. You have to be able to hear the high end -- vocals, lead guitar, high end of the keys. The Fillmore had the sound set for a different kind of band. The keys were way too loud, especially the low end. The kick -- which you can barely hear on any of their albums -- was louder than anything. Basically, the low end overpowered what you expect to hear from a band like this. The poor mix turned an average show into a below average one.

Alvvays is definitely my new favorite band! Their song writing ability is amazing! I loved their first album so much that I was scared that it had to go downhill after that, but amazingly their second album is just as good or maybe even better (can't decide). The good news is that they are playing almost every song from both albums on this tour. I WILL ALWAYS GO TO EVERY ALVVAYS SHOW THAT I CAN AND YOU SHOULD DO THE SAME.

This was my first time at the Paradise Rock Club and I can say with confidence that it will not be the last one. Great acoustic and great location. The bars are perfectly distributed so it is easy to get a drink. Alvvays put together a remarkable show! Maybe they should have kept a couple of hits for the 'encore'. I would love to see them again and again and again.

The time listed on the ticket was 8pm, but the opening act did not start playing until 9, but that is to be expected. Open act was impressively good, I enjoyed it. Alvvays sounded great live, I was able to hear every instrument clearly and distinctly. They were very nice too, I think the lead singer said "thank you" after every song. Great experience, would recommend to everyone.

This band does melodic, melancholy garage pop better than anyone I've heard in a long time. I've seen them three times and they have a wonderfully fresh and infectious sound without a hint of pretension. Just blissful pop with a great balance of jangly guitars, keyboard and singer Molly's sweet (but never saccharine) vocals. The album is consistently strong with hooks galore.

The first opening act "Baked" was so so but "Absolutely Free" followed them and they had good music. Although the show opened at 8PM the first show started at 9PM. So by the time Alvvays played it was already 11PM. Alvvays played most of their songs from the album but for some reason I felt like their performance ended short. I expected more songs perhaps?
