The writing, the acting and the message was wonderful. We strongly recommend setting aside an evening to attend 'A Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol." Some jokes missed, but most were spot on. At one point, I honestly laughed harder than I have in 3-4 years (The song, You Can Call me TIny). We had a great night! Merry Christmas!

LOVED IT - Great fun ! We didn't know what to expect; but what a great start to the Christmas season. The humor is along the lines of grandma got run over by a reindeer; all Minnesota. Incredible multi-talented cast - singing, dancing, acting. The songs and lyrics are the best. Get there 35 minutes before it starts - general admission seating.

Lots of laughs. Great fun poking at MN lifestyle, accents, etc. Even took our kids and they enjoyed it (15 and 11). Some humor was above my 11 year old's head, but overall good fun. Probably rate it at a PG - 13 for those thinking of taking younger adults. Love the small intimate setting of the theatre.

A unique, fun and inventive play! Loved it. The stars were extremely talented and engaging. HOWEVER, the seating is crappy (or is it crappie) rows 3-4 do not allow you to see the stage, so I missed much of Kanute's gestures and couldn't see the 'kids' until they got on the bar to dance. Seats are packed so tight it's not just uncomfortable - it's ridiculous! (Unless you get there early enough to sit in the raised seats, it's really a bad situation.) Also, when I walked in it smelled like rotting cantaloupe, but you do get used to it.

This is such a great show and I highly recommend it to anyone. It's especially funny for those of us who like to poke fun at our own Minnesotan traditions and quirks. Very talented and hilarious cast!!! The 1st time I saw this show, I ended up bringing people from out of state. They loved it! Then this year I went with family and friends. Definitely a fun must-see every year and now it's become a holiday tradition.

A Minnesotan understands well the humor depicted in this version of 'Scrooge'. Like calling it 'Don't Hug Me' since Midwesterners are known as passive-aggressive. Even the song titles are funny by themselves. 'Love You More Than Football' and 'What Would Barbra Streisand Do?'- to name a few. Since then I saw another play in this series in 2011, 'Don't Hug Me County Fair'. It was at Camp Bar in downtown St. Paul. I liked it as well due to understanding the humor well, like seeing the wife bailing out the dim-witted husband. Since I majored in history I liked how they covered the subject of a county fair. Since fairs- county, state, and world- are often popular events. What is now Maytag Park in my hometown of Newton, IA, is a former county fairgrounds. I've been to state fairs in Iowa, Minnesota, and Texas. I would see another play in this series if there are any.

I'm 27 and my parents are in their 60s. We all were just appalled at how bad it was. It was literally a "musical" (so tough to call it that) about farting and most of the actors were not funny. I am shocked that this got above 2 stars from anyone.

I was thoroughly impressed with this musical play; I enjoyed the red neck decor, costumes and jokes. The acting was very professional and the show was a real crowd pleaser. I would definately recommend this to someone to view.

This is one of the best comedy, but sometimes serious and sentimental) plays we've been to. We brought our 16 year and 20 year old grandkids for a Christmas present and they enjoyed it as much as we did. The only downside was difficulty finding the theater because a column blocks the signage. Allow plenty of time to get there if you're unfamiliar with Minneapolis. Would highly recommend to any age group over 12

Thank God this play was a comedy because we could laugh out loud at how bad it was without seeming rude. We knew we were in trouble after the first insipid song began. Our family of 5 (ages 17-55) was united in the opinion this Christmas play "stink, stank, stunk"!

Wow, what a great time. I don't think I've every laughed as long and hard as I did at this play. it was a riot...the characters, the singing, the jokes...the cast was great! There was an obvious chemistry between them all, and they all looked like they were having fun. The songs, the dancing, the "special" effects. It was rat a tat fast, kept me engaged, smiling, laughing, tapping my feet, and yes, at the end singing "Grandma Cut the Christmas Cheese". A grand time was had by all, audience and cast and me.

Very good value for the price, especially considering the dearth of holiday entertainment this year in the Twin Cities - Basically like a community play, except for the lead female, I wouldn't expect to see these folks on TV or big productions. Recommended for a good evening out in an intimate theatre setting.

Frustrated. That is the word that sums up my review. Cheesy acting, poor writing, pitchy singing. It was an amateurish mess. I would like my money back, as it was not cheap. I could see if this was an acting group in a small town, then I would expect this performance, but this was downtown Minneapolis, and we expected more (I get that it was not Broadway, but at least we wanted our money's worth). Save yourself time and don't see it, better yet stay in your suburb and go to a local community play which would be just as good if not better. We laughed once. The whole time...it was supposed to be a comedy. It was definitely an older audience (60+). Not that it matters, but I cannot figure out who would find those jokes funny. There was a little subdued laughter during the performance, but overall it fell flat. How has this thing run for years? Thumbs down, way way down.

This was such a good show, very funny. Loved the theatre very nice and personal. The actors played the parts excellent. The sound and stage lights went down for a short time and Ross told some jokes and invited the audience to participate. It was very cool.

Weak at best. The material was based on Ole/lena jokes dusted off from the 60's. The production values were fine, but the actors were all playing to the back row. This production should run at senior Citizen homes. We left at intermission.

Serious lack of help in ushers having to seat every person with just a couple people (and they both need to spruce up their people skills too - sorry ladies, it's true). For the money, this one is easily skipped.

Don't Hug Me Christmas Carol was a funny evening out. My sisters and I decided we needed some laughter in our lives before all the stress of Christmas set it. It was a good choice. Lots of laughs with many one liners. Actors were talented and great singers. Music was good especially the rap song. I loved the closeness to the stage.

By golly we loved this play! With a cast of 5 people this play manages to pull off a funny spoof of northern MN. In case anyone is wondering it's a musical with singing and dancing. Get there a little early if possible to get a front row seat. The theater is small and there are chairs to sit on but some of them are not on risers. The songs were fun, the dancing was great. The cast appeared to be having as good a time as the audience.

I thought the play was a great value for the money. The Minnesota connection and references were great. I would recommend getting to the play early to get the front seats. The risers are only about 4 inches high so you have a hard time seeing over the people in front of you.

We did this with 2 other couples, and it was fun. The play is a little slow in the beginning, but many of the routines were hilarious, even for a non-Minnesotan (Mn humor?) None of us had any idea what the humor or message was in the "out of the closet" song. Didn't know if it was making fun of ...what? Maybe I"m too PC trained. Anyway, drop it, or re-write it, and the show would be a 5*

Very clever take on Charles Dickens... if you enjoy NorthWoods brand of humor you will like this. My partner who IS MINNESOTAN and likes that kind of humor (Grandma cut the Cheese for example) ..just loved it.

We really enjoyed the play. Thought it was hilarious. I think you would have to be a Minnesota native to get all the humor, but I thought it was very well done.

A very enjoyable evening. We attended on opening night -- My cheeks hurt from smiling & my ribs hurt from laughing. This is a MUST SEE -- enjoyed by both husbands & wives (a rare "find"). There is simply nothing like a live performance, bloopers & all! We're already talking about going again.

This show was HORRIBLE! The actors weren't necessarily bad, they just had terrible jokes to work with so you can't really blame them. The writing was predictable and not at all funny. This was such a waste of time and money. All of the reviews were so good and they make it known that they "sell out every performance." That's because the theater is VERY small. I'm guessing they went on and wrote their own reviews! If you want to catch some great live comedy, go to see the Brave New Workshop. I've been to a few of their shows and I have never been disappointed!

We had family in from out of town. This was a great inexpensive way to entertain. It was funny and had everyone laughing. I would recommend this play.

I have seen other "Don't Hug Me" productions and I didn't think the "Christmas Carol" quite measured up---we researched it for "family friendliness" before buying tickets and read that it was great fun for the whole family. However, we brought our 12 year old daughter and felt it was inappropriate for her with a lot of sexual inuendo and humor. We had some great laughs but would think twice before bringing children again.

I found this play enjoyable but definitely was not memorable or beyond expectations. I saw Don't Hug Me a few years back and absolutely loved it. I do not feel this show measured up to the original. With that said, it was a light, comical show that was entertaining if not spectacular.

I bought the tickets for my husband for a Christmas gift (We had never been to the Hennepin Stages before) but I really didn't know that it would be that good. Wow! VERY good cast that had us laughing through all of it. I have been talking about it for days :)
