Ideas are powerful. Jad and Robert routinely exploit this fact, expertly and entertainingly allowing the story behind an idea or concept to unfold in a dramatic and entering way that ends up making that idea an unforgettable part of our lives. The story about the end of the dinosaurs is brought to life like it never has been before, as would be expected from these guys.

The show was one of the best I've seen all year for sure. It was brilliantly put together from start to finish. The band building the soundscape & doing the effects were so spot-on. The video effects were informational & the other visual effects & puppetry were such an added bonus. It really was a spectacular show.

Radiolab Live (Apocalyptical) was incredible beyond words. As a big fan of Radiolab in general, I was expecting the show to be awesome and the it far exceeded my already high expectations. Everything was presented in such a unique, interesting way - like the radio show but with visuals! I was pretty much in awe through the whole show and that is not something that happens often at most live shows these days. Jad and Robert have an amazing chemistry. The music was fantastic and watching Jad conduct while he performed the show was very cool. I'm not even sure how to describe it really, just that it was an incredible piece of art. I want to go back and see it again and I will absolutely see Radiolab again live if they do another tour!

I am an avid Radiolab fan and listener, so I was very excited for this live show. It was really cool to see the hosts in real life and have an in person experience with them, however, I feel the show was a bit disjointed and slow. It sometimes seemed like they weren't sure what they were doing next, which made me lose focus often. Also, the first half was really interesting, but the second half, I was trying not to fall asleep! The pacing was just so slow. I'd love to recommend it to everyone, but I just didn't feel like it was worth the money we paid to see it.

My fiance and I love Radiolab, so when I saw tickets for it live...it was a no brainer. And we were not disappointed! We had a great time, from the event itself right down to the venue (Palace Theatre in Columbus is gorgeous!) Again, if you're a fan of Radiolab, I would definitely recommend going to a live show if there's one near you!

If you are fans of the RadioLab broadcast, this is a must. If you are unfamiliar with RadioLab, this a science based radio show that tells up to threw unique stories that are all loosely related by a theme. Jad and Robert are two excellent storytellers that are not afraid to look at topics as far ranging as the afterlife to bubbles and always keep it interesting. "In the Dark" did not disappoint!

I love the actual podcasts as much as anyone else, but this show was way overpriced and really underwhelming. They didn't bring in the actual storytellers to give you a more intimate experience than the radio show. Rather, you sit listening to a (more poorly edited) version of the radio show through the speakers of the venue. The visual aids and music both managed to make the show less enjoyable somehow. I wish I could say I liked it more...but I can't.

It was really an excellent show. However, I had expected something different from their episodic format. Instead it was basically the same experience as listening to the show on the radio. I found that a little disappointing, but still enjoyed the show a great deal. The visuals in the last act of the show were incredible.

I liked seeing Robt. Krullwich and Jad Abumrad in person! They were as engaging and funny in person as on the radio. Pilobus added some visual interest and I enjoyed the music. I wasn't as crazy about the topic! If it were on a podcast I wouldn't have selected it. It was great and fun to see how they managed a visual performance of what is typically an audio broadcast.

Really liked the show and if I had to complain about anything it would be that while I really liked how the dance troop was incorporated into the stories, it seemed like during actual dance numbers they were torn between making themselves or the shadows the focus of their routine. They were really great though and this was a pretty minor beef. Overall it was a great time and really interesting to see a show that I often experience through earbuds come to life on the stage

The show was entertaining, informative, and inspiring as always, but for the first time, I was able to view it instead of listening online. The dance troup Pilobolous was intriguing, funny, and visually stunning and creative, and Tau Wyn's songs were great, and of course Jad and and Robert were charming as always! One of the best show's I've seen in a long time!

Let's start with the "comedian" in the bluejacket. He came out & immediate displayed his superficial knowledge about anthropogenic global warming - of course, he doesn't remember the last consensus about "global cooling". But at least that, and the evolution spiel bore some relation to science. Perhaps the penis jokes did, too, but c'mon. I paid my money to see & hear you, not some potty-mouth second rate comic. And the business about putting the eyeballs over your heads is funny at the elementary school level - it was simply stupid. The show itself was uneven. The evolution of the eyeball was okay, and should be a part of any 8th grade science class. It seemed dumbed down. The colloquy with the two blind men was better. I had my son with me and we had an interesting discussion about it on the way home - he pointed out the Matrix angle which I missed. The last segment was great for content. But the lights were a little hokey. BTW the collection boxes were nowhere to be seen coming out of the mezzanine seats The staging was not what I expected. Maybe it's just a matter of money. All in all, nowhere near what I'd hoped for, and not really worth the price of good seats.

The show was as interesting as it is on the radio, and seeing the interaction between Jad and Robert (just seeing Jad and Robert!) made it even better. I have been to TAL live movie theater events, so I thought I had an idea of what to expect. The visual elements of this radio stage show were amazing, really added to the experience. This was way better than expected! I wasn't sure how a radio show would translate to a live show and was very impressed! It was a lot of fun! The only downside to this event was that I didn't wait until later to purchase my tickets as there was a promotion for 50% of tickets the week of. I also wish that the venue didn't charge so much for convenience charges. What is convenient about being charged that much for this venue?

My family loved the dinosaurs and the theory presented. The periodic table was fun too. Music by Reggie is fine, but some of the comments were not appropriate. The story about the beginning of the end was not suitable for kids and dragged on waaaaaay to long! I would recommend the event to other families, but warn them about suitable audiences as well as the price for show, which may not be fully worthwhile.

Show was very dark in content. The comedian was not funny and 85% imposible to understand even tho the acustics at Flint are fantastic. The third story was so sad and depressing, Parkensins disease, my wife and I left early! So did other people. I don't think I'd go again. The purpose of an evening out is to be entertained. The title of the program was Apolitipictal and I was leary of the potential for doom and gloom and the first to storys were Apocalyptical in nature but were very entertainng. They have it in them to be entertraining but went to the dark side which was very disappointing. I expected better from the Radio Lab Team.

I love Radiolab. It wasn't until last January that I really started listening to the show. I missed last years concert but they ran a couple of shows based off the live performances. I was so eager to go to this years concert but tickets were prices high. I'm a college student and $60 for a ticket plus another $60 for my girlfriend is a lot. Fortunately my girlfriend bought them as an anniversary gift! The Saban Theater in LA was beautiful. The first act about the possible cause of extinction for the dinosaurs was gray too. But then the second act was boring. I started falling asleep and a woman sitting behind us was snoring. I think the generally consensus of the audience was that the second and third acts were weak. I was falling asleep and being woken up by the live band they had on stage which were amazing. The second and third act were just weak. I love radiolab but this concert really disappointed me.

I'm not sure whether these guys have ever met Bill Nye the Science Guy, but second only to him they are the best at making science fun and interesting. If he has never met them, I know he would be proud of them carrying the torch of "science rules!" The shows are not only informative, but visually stunning and audibly entertaining. There is never a dull moment in any of their shows, and at times they are downright hilarious!

Having listened to Radiolab for a few years now, it was nice to put faces to the voices. On the show, there have been times when you know they have graphics is front of them, so it was nice to be able to see them. Both Robert and Jab were much as I had imagined them to be in that Jab would be the bouncy one full os energy. Robert being older would be more sedate and the the anchor to Jab's energy. The musicians were remarkable in the sounds that they produced, which complimented the discussion that was going on. One of the reasons I love listening to Radiolab's podcasts. If I had a criticism, would be that at times the music was a little too loud, as it made it had to hear the commentary. Thank you, Radiolab for all of the wonderful topics you have done for my listening pleasure.

I love Radiolab and so it was a treat to see them in person. Our reaction to the show overall however was mixed. The signature segment about the dinosaurs was terrific, and the puppets were great. But the rest of the show was very uneven and I found the music to be too loud and not very interesting. One of the reasons I got tickets because of the really interesting programs on music they have done. Here the music was merely backup, and it got in the way. The venue was odd as well - way too big for this kind of show and there were many, many empty seats. My guess is that it was at most 2/3 full. Would I go to another show? Probably not, although I am a dedicated follower on NPR.

I was so looking forward to this show as I am a huge Radiolab fan. But it was quite amateurish and not very much like Radiolab. The first segment about the Dinosaur extinction was fabulous, the periodic table was interesting, but the Parkinson disease segment at the end was long, uninteresting and a real down note--it was also completely off-theme for Apocolypse. Bottom line is I will never buy RadioLab Live tickets again without full details as to what the show is about.

The first half of the show was exactly what I expect from a live performance of the show. It was the in depth visual explanation of "The End". Very entertaining . . . . then, the second half of the show. . . in one word BORING. the person to my left and my right both fell asleep. If you are fan of the radio show/podcast you already know this - the live show had all of the humor and intimacy of the radio PLUS additional visuals/live music etc. - pretty cool that there was a large sell/out crowd for what essentially is feast for the mind/intellect - without being arrogant to "too cool for school" about it... It was a great show for fans of Radiolab. Lots of information I didn't know. The sound effects and visual effects were great. The only thing I didn't like was the musical guest in the middle of the show. I'm guessing he was trying to be funny, but alot of us folks were in the audience shaking our heads and asking each other what was this about. The show was 2 hours long and that's a bit long for children. Even with the life size dinosaur puppets, which the entire audience loved...except for the late people who he tried to eat!

Great show. The visuals, the music, the sound effects, the puppets and most of all the telling of the story. All were just what I expected from Chad and Rob. The day of the show was my 59th and it could not have been better. The way these guys present and tell a story that includes a lot of scientific research is just unmatched. I wish my science teacher back in high school could have done as good a job of conveying science and make it so engaging. Having the other performers doing their thing during the show also helped modulate the theme of the story. My wife and I liked the comedian doing the solo stuff he used to weave in and out of the theme of the story.

I am a huge fan of these guys and love listening to their podcasts. But I found most of this show dull and not that inventive, certainly not as inventive as they usually are. The first segment, on dinosaurs was nice, but really there were only 2-3 interesting anecdotes about the demise of the dinosaurs, otherwise it did not seem to bring much that was new. Middle section on bismuth was fun. The final section was awful, a real downer and pretentious rather than profound. I think they tried to achieve what the film Young at Heart accomplished, but failed. I gave 3 stars because even on a bad day Radiolab are special and are great at what they do. And it was exciting to see them live after listening to so many shows.

I am sure everyone would agree that one of the most enjoyable aspects of Radiolab broadcasts and podcasts is the 'production' and sound. It is true ear 'candy' with lots of 'protein' content. And so I was looking forward to having a real ear treat when the lights went down in Oakland...sadly I was disappointed. I was mid balcony and the sound reinforcement was so poor that I found myself cupping my ears and tilting my head just to make out every third word. Any time there was the least bit of audience noise the audio was gibberish. Unless the theatre was dead quiet I might as well have been deaf. ...at least they had puppets

Remember those really neat, informative, science-y presentations you used to attend back in your school days? Of course you do, those were some of the best field trips! This show is exactly that for your adult mind! The audience was quite diverse, as I'm positive the Radiolab podcast listeners are. It was just as enthralling as a regular podcast, but having the visuals to back up the stories made it that much more entertaining. I watched the musicians handle every sound effect and was mesmerized at how they even played those sounds. The theater setting just lent itself perfectly to an expanded-yet-intimate show. I loved it, and really wish my friends in other states can check it out closer to home. The only tiny negative I had was that souvenirs were sold cash-only. I wish I had known this prior to arriving.

Jad and Robert bring an amazing live version of your favorite show. The visuals are fun and the stories are wonderful. However, they have some terrible comedian with them who, I'm assuming, is there to warm up the crowd. He is so NOT Radiolab. He was making adult breast-feeding and circumcision jokes. What? Inappropriate - I mean, there were kids there for goodness sakes. But back to Radiolab - it was great and worth going after all. Just find something else to do while the comedian is up there.

The first story about the dinosaurs extinction: Awesome The bismuth bit: Pretty good Reggie Watts: Amazing The Parkinson's ending: Should have been left on the radio. With no real visual elements, and a plethora of stories available about endings, I don't know why they chose to end on that one. They had three screens that just showed some guy in a chair. Not live show material.

I'm a huge Radiolab fan, and was SO excited to see the guys live. Most of the show was fascinating and entertaining. My only complaint (other than the ridiculous line for the women's bathrooms - seriously, 4 or 5 toilets for a venue that size?) is the last act. It was a touching story, but dragged on a little after the energy of the acts prior. And more importantly, for a live show they made very little use of visual elements. Projecting silhouettes of a guy sitting in a chair behind you onto a couple of screens is hardly visually engaging. Overall though, the team was great as usual!

But they need more bathrooms and it seems weird that every single person has to be walked to their seats by the slowest lady ever... We waited about the same for our seats (20 people at our door) as we did for the block-long line to get in (hundreds of people - - very efficient)

I have always been an avid listener of Jad and Robert's podcast and was convinced it could not get any better. I was wrong. Their dynamic on stage as well as the incredible guest appearances by Glynn Washington of Snap Judgement, Ira Glass (who needs no introduction), and Reggie Watts made for an explosive show! Best show I've gone to in this last year.

These guys are much better over the radio. There wasn't that much value in seeing them live. The second half of the show didn't not flow well and the stories did not connect well to the theme

If you saw Radiolab's first live show, In The Dark, then you'll notice a slightly different vibe - but not one that takes away from the overall enjoyment. Apocalyptical was missing the in-house crowd sourced event that created a night sky in the theater and was replaced by an online survey that took place before the tour. The result is a bit clunky when Jad laments the outcome of the survey and the whole moment feels like a bit of a let down compared to the active in theater participation of the previous show. The only other wobble stems from the comic guest (Simon Amstell) being thematically off point (even though his participation in one of the segments was great). Otherwise, the show delivered exactly what I expected. The Pilobolus analog in this show was fun and dramatic, the musical scoring was fantastic and the various science and cultural topics covered by Robert and Jad were completely up to par - even though there was a primary "segment" that dominated a majority of the show. That main segment was easily my favorite, but it made the remaining smaller segments feel hammered in to fill time. They may have benefited by being included more organically into the primary segment's theme. Overall, try not to miss Radiolab if they swing through your area. Definitely give the podcast a listen if you've never heard of them. They are giants of the format and it still translates brilliantly to a live show experience.

This show was essentially broken up into three parts. The first story about dinosaur extinction was really fascinating. The second act, Reggie Watts, was just ok. He's entertaining to watch perform and do live looping but it's not my style of music at all. And the final segment, well. I don't find actors talk about acting all that exciting even if is about their own demise. I know our society is enthralled by celebrity, but I think the usually creative folks at radiolab could have come up with a more interesting story about endings than two guys talking about a play they wrote.

I have been listening to RadioLab since its inception and love the show. Its integration of cool audio effects and thought provoking material make it one of my favorites. When I heard about this year's live show I was super excited since I couldn't make it last year. While I thought it was cool to see it in the flesh I honestly felt like there wasn't much more enjoyment than from the podcast. There were some visuals but none of them were compelling enough to warrant the live show. I do recommend this show for big fans of the show if nothing more than to support the great work that Jad and Robert are doing, but if this is not your thing than maybe try the podcast first. Also I do not recommend this as a good date night unless your partner is into sciency type things.

I had pretty high hopes for this event, but ended up extremely bored and letdown. I had come into the show wondering how they would essentially make a radio show into something that was visually worthwhile (but with high hopes for it), and at first it seemed like they were going to do it. The first story included giant moving dinosaurs! However, the visuals quickly dwindled away to such an extend that during the last section, we literally only had a non-moving image of a sitting man to look at for about 40 minutes. Also, their choice of stories for the last section was extremely boring. Very slow and rather depressing\u2014which is fine when I'm listening to this on the radio, but when I pay to come and have a night at the theater, I feel like something a little more lively is in order\u2014especially as your closing piece. Overall disappointing, and I would not recommend this event. My group of friends also were very disappointed, and they were more RadioLab fans than myself.

Imagine taking two of the most interesting, informative people on radio--people who can make an hour fly by and leave you intellectually satisfied--and then make them run the 440 hurdles. Probably not a pretty picture...and neither was this show. Adding a few mulitimedia elements, puppets, and interminable jazz riffs does not "avante garde" make, and I never realized how much my imagination contributed to my enjoyment of Radio Lab. The visuals, projected up on a large screen behind our hosts, WERE informative, but not nearly so much as I've always found their descriptions of the same things. I can't tell you how many times they turned things over to their jazz quartet, and I found myself just drifting off, not caring.

Really fascinating show with impressive and fun visuals, and great supporting musicians. The last 1/2 hour of the show slowed down quite a bit, and ended on a rather somber note, but overall the show was great.

I have listened to every show since Radiolab began - this stage show is simply put - boring. It will put you to sleep. There is basically no stage show other than a pretty basic slideshow and a Dino for about 5 minutes. Really poorly planned - incredibly boring. So sad !

The first story about dinos was good but underwhelming. Reggie's comedy is simply strange. And the last story about Parkinson's didn't have much of a wow factor. It's all good but not worth the money.

Having been a long time Radiolab listener and active fan, this was my first live show I've ever attended. Seeing the chemistry of Robert Krulwich and Jad Abumrad live was a real treat and their stories, just like the radio/podcast show, did not disappoint. It was full of wonder, mystery, inquiry and heart. Visually experiencing the show only enhanced the experience. I'm definitely looking forward toward next year's live performance.

Radiolab treated an enthusiastic crowd to a thought-provoking journey of stimulating ideas, rich sounds and eye-opening sights at the Beacon Theater last Friday evening. The theme was "endings" and the Radiolab's expert crew found a way to relate dinosaur extinction, two actors' struggles with Parkinson's disease, an exercise in creating a new vocabulary, a Pepto-bismal chugging contest to illustrate a talking point about the Periodic Table of the Elements, and several other loopy diversions over the course of the performance. We were a little apprehensive that Radiolab would be static --all talking heads and recorded sound--but this was a fully dimensional show with a terrifically inventive live band, giant puppets and an impressive work by a live digital video DJ. Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich were fine hosts and storytellers who, along with their writers and producers, have discovered an effective and entertaining conversational format for journalism that values depth and context and takes the time to do a little teaching along the way. A truly joyful experience!

For a duo who's main art form is audio, it wasn't bad. Tickets were overpriced for what we got

Super awesome. If you're a fan of the radio show, you'll enjoy the live show for sure. Jad and Robert sound just like they do on the radio! Robert wears dad jeans, Jad dances like a dork. It's wonderful.
