I saw the final premiere performance of this show in Paris, France in January 2015 and I'm happy to say that I saw it again for its final performance on Broadway. I'm happy that it will continue its journey as it tours the United States and opens in London next year. I would recommend to anyone that is a fan of old movie musicals, Gershwin, and also musicals in general.

Had a fantastic time with my daughter was so happy to be there on opening night, the theater was electric and the show was amazing, it was a feast for the eyes and considering it was first time on Broadway for the 2 leads, they were incredible, we enjoyed every minute. I would say if you like musicals and especially the ballet, it's a must see.

This show is a game changer! It has brought the world of ballet and infiltrated it to the Broadway theater. I have always loved the ballet, but I hope that those who have not will gain a new appreciation for its beauty and ability for story telling. The dialogue can fall a bit flat at times, and I would have appreciated a bit more edge in the humor to lighten it up, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to friends

We have been to a lot of musicals. This one truly deserved all the accolades it received from the audience. Most people just give standing ovations automatically. This one deserved it. Sets, Lighting, Costumes, Choreography, Cast, Musical Score, Orchestra, etc. could not have been better. This musical is a Winner and must see.

Where do I start? Now I see why one goes to see new ballets repeatedly to see all there is to see. The magnificent choreography was almost but only almost upstaged by the phenomenal use of computer graphics and lighting to make the stage really feel like you were outside on a Paris street, inside the Gallerie Lafeyette, or in Radio City Music hall, and the staging for the FULL LENGTH BALLET which was just one of the many "musical numbers," was right out of the Pictures at an Exhibition which I just saw at the NYCB. The transitions were all Wheeldon, I'd seen the likes of them before, and the use of billowing flags and fabrics and glimmering panels was divine. The cast was obviously hand picked and the choreography and direction as you'd expect. We waited at the stage door because Scott Willis who played Monsieur Baurel is an old friend of Jen's from her touring Broadway show days and she choreographed him in a production of No No Nannette which he made sure toWhere do I start? I especially liked a double axel (I thought only ice skaters did those) and the image of his easily clearing the department store counter with one leg on a turn stays with me. An American in Paris is a breathtakingly beautiful musical. From the sets and costumes, to the incredible dancing it is stunning. The leads are outstanding, not only is their dancing incredible but they have beautiful voices and their acting is great. The scene changes are beautifully choreographed, so seemless that you love watching them as much as the rest of the show. The music is wonderful and the orchestra is great. Headed to New York? LOVE dance? Add this to your MUST-SEE list. Although the plot is razor thin, it is meaningful. However, this musical is about MUSIC and DANCE and about a STAR BEING BORN. Gershwin's music has rarely sounded more beautiful; Brad Haak led the orchestra in a powerful, concert-worthy delivery of the music. The show kicks off with Gershwin s Concerto in F, brilliantly choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon of The Royal Ballet, and magnificently danced by the entire company. The star of the show is New York City Ballet s Robert Fairchild. His flawless dancing is matched by his spot-on acting and powerful singing, not mention his matinee-idol looks. His leading lady is The Royal Ballet s, Leanne Cope; her movements are as light as air; she is superb. Brandon Uranowitz and Max von Essen are wonderful as the two pals in the trio of eligible bachelors. Veanne Cox is a superb mother, and Jill Paice is sensational as the rich American. But, in the final analysis, it is all about the magnificent music and the glorious DANCING and, finally, about watching a star being born: Robert Fairchild.

We just saw An American in Paris at the Palace theatre in New York City Saturday afternoon April 18th. If you thought the movie (starring Gene Kelley and Leslie Caron) was wonderful, you are in for a momentous surprise if you go and see this spectacular live production. Starring two professional ballet dancers (Robert Fairchild, Principal dancer with the NYC Ballet and Leanne Cope, lead ballerina of the London Royal Ballet) in their Broadway debut are all the more remarkable because not only can they dance the pants off of the likes of Baryshnikov and Karsavina, but they possess marvelously beautiful singing voices and tremendous acting chops to boot! The ultra-romantic story weaves a plot involving an American Soldier left over in Paris at the end of the war who meets and falls head over heels with a beautiful Parisian aspiring ballerina (very convenient, isn t it)…While she is being wooed by another handsome young man whose family hid and protected her during the war (spoiler alert: She is Jewish). The plot thickens throughout the show which is packed with fabulous Gershwin songs such as I Got Rhythm , The Man I love , S Wonderful , the shopstopper I ll Build a Stairway to Paradise staged in what was supposed to be Radio City Music Hall… (and brought the house down with almost minutes of applause), and of course the second act 16 Minute climatic ballet from Gershwin s original Orchestration of An American in Paris which was more dazzling than any words I can conjure up to describe. With an entire cast of talented actors and professional ballet dancing ensembles, beautiful costumes and creative sets utilizing screen projections of Paris sights, this show is totally amazing. There hasn t been this kind of choreography and music in a Broadway musical in years. **** ½ stars (out of 5).

This show was the most enjoyable play we've seen since Guys and Dolls and Movin' Out. The music of George and Ira Gershwin was so familiar and well performed. The choreography was perfect…you felt the emotions that the dancers were portraying. Even the costumes were true to the period. All in all this was a most surprising, entertaining and satisfying play. Go see it. You'll come away smiling.

Jerry & Lise (played by Robert Fairchild & the disarmingly beautiful Leanne Cope) have a palpable chemistry that makes this love story so enchanting. The entire experience was magical even though this was my fifth time seeing the show. The story telling in the opening ballet and the ballet at the end of Act One are beautifully done. Seeing Paris coming to life after the Liberation and the fast forward of Milo introducing Jerry around, the ballet rehearsal and Jerry and Lise meeting by the Seine is Beautiful. The scene at the Ball Des Beaux Arts makes a perfect ending to Act One. I relished in every moment knowing that this was the closing performance for Broadway. I am sure that knowing it was the last time to perform "Stairway to Paradise" made it extra important to Max von Essen which definitely showed in the performance and the spontaneous audience applause throughout the number. I am now awaiting what I am sure will be an equally spectacular tour lead by Garen Scribner and Sara Esty. I urge everyone to go see the tour when it hits your town. As a subscriber to Broadway in Portland (OR), I already have my seats for May! SEE THE TOUR, THIS SHOW IS MAGICAL.

Triple threats are cast members who sing, dance and act. An American in Paris abounds in triple threats who seamlessly moved from lyrical ballet to Gershwin song standards. What talent! But if that wasn't enough, the sets were beautiful and transformed nearly instantaneously. But the best surprise to me was the new score and libretto. There were elements of Concerto in F, Rhapsody #2 and the Cuban Overture woven into the story and reminding us of the Gershwin genius.

After reading great reviews about this musical, especially the ballet, we were so disappointed to find it so boring! This was supposed to be a romantic story that moves us. But it turned out to be just a lot of ballet with no resemblance to the story. Add to that, the ballet was very, very basic, and there was no beauty to move us at all. The music was flat throughout, and this was the first time we were looking forward to the end of the show (and we have seen almost all of them!). i would NOT recommend this show at all unless you are a DIE HARD fan of the composer, and thus can appreciate his music. If you are a ballet fan, you will be sorely disappointed. And if you are looking for a romantic love story, give this a miss!

I'm a big fan of Gershwin and I've heard the music from this play (originally a movie in 50s) before - in fact I have a CD of it. As for the theater production it really just blew me away! The actors/dancers/singers really are triple threats and the quality was just impeccable! In the very first number, a horn player in the orchestra was really having a hard time and I was concerned about the production values. But I guess he was just cold or hung over, because he came around and the whole orchestra sounded excellent too. The play really was satisfying way beyond my expectations and it is definitely a "must-see" in my book. Our mezzanine tix were good too - around the 10th row, where there is a pretty good price break. The Palace theater is nice enough, although I did not appreciate them making us all wait, standing up in the lobby until around 7:35. Otherwise, the staff was helpful and friendly.

Enchanting dancing that will leave you wanting to go to the ballet. The first 7 to 10 minutes of the show has a 30 second monologue and then proceeds into all dance telling the introduction of the storyline. It was so beautiful! The costuming is lovely along with the staging. The songs are great, but this show is really about the dance to me. The ballet between the couples all the way to the individuals is breathtaking. We saw 5 shows and this was by far all of our (ages 13, 17, 17, 17, 40 & 47) favorite show. We were all so amazed by the beauty of the dancing and the way the story was portrayed that we ALL had tears in our eyes (even the two 17 year old boys!). The costumes were beautiful, appropriate and modest. The dancing was gorgeous!!! What an incredible cast the show has!! This is a must see for anyone who loves dance and / or Broadway!

if you have a " take it or leave it feeling " about plus 4 modern dance this is not the show for you. If on the other hand you appreciate evocative choral choreography and the expression of two lives shared form the sensual to the mundane expressed in dance by the play's paired leads.... stick around for the last act. You won't be sorry.

Theatre at its best. Bold, beautiful, brilliant. The two leads are outstanding and one is swept away by the romance, the score, the dancing/ballet. A joyous performance and one of the best shows I've seen on Broadway in two years!

The entire show was gorgeous from beginning to end. The dancing was unbelievable and the actors were amazing. The use of projections really enhanced the show and added another awe-inspiring layer to it. It was also an incredibly smart show. I was amazed how they blended dance, music, and art together to tell the story. I definitely loved it. Be aware, however, that this is a very dance-heavy show...almost a ballet with singing and acting. While I enjoyed it and thought it was wonderful, my show companion (who isn't a big fan of ballet) admitted that she got a little bored during some of the dance numbers. As I said, I loved the entire show, but some people might feel the same as my companion.

Gershwin, Wheeldon, Crowley, Fairchild, Cope and too many more to name...the finest composers, designers, musicians, artists extraordinaire. I feel fortunate to live in a time where these forces come together and that I could be present for this performance.

This new "must-see" creative interpretation reaches to new heights of Dance , Story-line development , Vocals and Staging -- certainly worthy mediums for the great Gershwin music --- from the Title piece , through Concerto in F , and to all the tuneful themes that weave their way through this timeless performance . It is especially great to see the exposure of new artists , as Fairchild and Cope -- such beautiful dancers , and such expressive performances from EVERYONE in the cast, top to swings ! Bravo , and I am sure there will be many awards coming for this array of the highest magnitude stars !

I was totally enraptured by An American in Paris directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. From the opening moments, the sets were eye popping, creative and trasnported me to the City of Lights, which I love! Each performance stood out as mesmerizing and captivating. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the entire event. Gershwin's tunes swept me away to a place so embedded in my heart that I experienced both joy, tears and sheer excitement watching dancers like shooting stars filling the stage with wonder. "I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise" was the number that truly elevated me to another world. The sets, costumes, dancers, and of course the music was so exhilarating that I thought I might just teleport right into outer space from excitement! And the closing ballet was so thoughtful, delicate and emotional that it left me begging for more! Encore! Encore! Give us more of this kind of Broadway entertainment! Thank you so much!

Great show, great Gershwin songs. There is lots of great dancing & some good comedy. The sets, background scenery & lighting effects are pretty & imaginative. I still wish Sunday Matinees would start at 2pm instead of 3pm.

The play dance routines surprised me, I didn't expect to see them on point. The story line was great and the backdrops provided us with a glimpse of Paris. I recommend this play and am sorry it will be leaving us soon. Go While you can!

Went to see this show a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Using some songs from the film, it feels like an extension of the magic. While it is a great time out for all ages, it only drops 1 star for not being able to replace the magic of Gene Kelly. Fantastic dance numbers, worth a trip if you are a fan of the film!

I thought An American in Paris was great fun. The dancing was superb and the singing and Gershwin music was excellent. The mix of ballet and American musical theater was so well done. I would recommend this show to everyone.

Great old music and plot, with lots of dance (a little too much dance for me, but some of it was so very well done). Very entertaining.

American In Paris is a classic love story.... first the good, the sets are very good, the songs are unforgettable, the dancing is great and the cast is all talented.. now the bad... remember the great dancing..... well there is just too much of it... Act 1 seems to drag,, ACT II had more character and plot development... so if you like the dancing you will find this terrific,,, if you want something more balanced, look elsewhere.

This was a wonderful show. I wanted to see it badly before it closed since I love the movie version. The dancing and singing were fantastic. The acting was solid with great comic timing. The costuming was also great. Beautiful gowns. The Palace Theater is a beautiful old building. Surprisingly the seats were fairly roomy and comfortable. However, there are lots of stairs and some places are hard to navigate. My companion and I both tripped getting out of our row.

Best play ever. The choreography and talent was exceptional. Enjoyed every minute of this play and would recommend it to everyone. The costumes were exquisite and the actors and actresses were the best of the best. I've been to many plays but this was my favorite.

Wanted to see a classic musical and this was a terrific choice. Acting,m singing and dancing are all excellent, although I was uncomfortable with the lead actress channeling Leslie Caron and not being herself. Costumes and stage design were excellent. Smoking is unnecessary and does nothing to enhance the story.

We were charmed by this show, a true time travel back to Broadway's golden era. The music score of course is American classic, the dancing and stage are breathtaking, the digital effects right on point. However, the choreography is the star here, just amazing. The show is fun and captivating, highly recommended.
