It was a beautiful night at Humphreys in Shelter Island! The Shelters opened and were great! Tom Petty and Mudcrutch were amazing!! They played two of my favorites from their first album; Scare Easy and Lover Of The Bayou; three of my favorites from their second and newly released album; Trailer, Dreams Of Flying and Save Your Water. They played with such passion and humbleness for two solid hours!! Love them!! Look forward to seeing them again!!

The best concert ever, the Ryman Auditorium is perfect for the concert. The fact that Tom Petty joined Mud Crutch was a major bonus.

I was expecting some Tom Petty and Heart-breaker songs but it was pretty much all from the latest Mud Crutch album. Surprisingly I was not at all heartbroken it was a great set (song writing is kind of like fine wine with the guys like dylan, cash and petty) and even the opening act "The Shelters" from L.A. were pretty good.

Definitely a great show, but I expected not so extensive and more or less spheric guitar music - the songs are performed rather differently than on record, which was thankfully sent out to every buyer of a ticket for this event. The CD "2" which I am listening to at the moment is just great! Full of "old school" Tom Petty, but also with interesting compositions featuring the other band members on vocal. Definitely recommend the venue. A MUST for concert goers! Probably would've recommended (4 stars) the event, had I heard the album before the concert. Since I would have recognized many of the songs, and that would've made a difference!

Loved the show! Mudcrutch brought back that country, southern rock, psychedelic, 70 s era before the music headed to disco. All the guys were incredible; Benmont shined on the piano; Mike took us off to another level and adding Herb Peterson just topped the show off with his banjo. Bringing back Tom Leadon and Randell March just rounded out the band for this journey into some good old garage band music. Ready for another show, Atlanta here I come.

Unless you live in CA, or you have the time and resources to travel the country, chances are you won't get more than one chance to see Mudcrutch in a small venue. The Ryman, in Nashville, was the perfect place. We could have seen them in Cincinnati, but it was at an outdoor festival, so we drove an extra 4 hours. Although Mudcrutch doesn't have the hits that TP and the Heartbreakers have, I loved, loved, loved this show!

The Ryman is fabulous! Google it. The area of town has lots to offer in the way of clubs and restaurants. Mudcrutch is basically TP&THB with a switch at drummer, rythm guitar, and bass. Everyone sings a song. Having seen TP&THB a couple of time in arenas... I'll tell you Tom was much more loose and had more of a conversation with the crowd.

The boys never disappoint, they burned through many songs from both albums and a few added covers. You could just tell they were having a great time with each other and we had a great time listening. They even brought out some of Nashville's Royalty sitting next to me who also had a blast. I would recommend this show to any fan of good quality music but a must see for the true Petty fans. Mike was as always amazing and showed plenty of country licks on his B bending Tele, and his vocal was great as well. Some of my favorite tunes from the albums are the Benmont penned tunes and he shined as well. Overall A+.

What an amazing opportunity to see a fabulous band. I couldn't ask for anything more then to watch two of the world's best guitar players jam out in this 500 seat arena. Just be prepared that although the heart of the Heartbreakers is in this group this is not TP and the Heartbreakers and they don't play any of their songs.

7 years ago I was fortunate to see their show at the Fillmore, now with a great new album "Mudcrutch 2" out they have a new full tour and from the moment they came out on the stage you could see how happy they were to be playing again. From the opening notes of "Shady Grove" and throughout the evening you could see a renewed energy and commitment this tour has. Mudcrutch a group of friends from Florida who in 1970 started playing together and have remained good friends throughout the years were finally out on the road together and loving every minute of it. Everyone member in the band had written songs on the new album and got to sing their songs. Between songs they shared cool stories of their history together. Musically they played great together. All of the songs they played proved just how good a band they are and were at the same high level you would expect from Tom Petty whether it was Mudcrutch or the Heart Breakers. They write and create great songs! Great night of music, with a fun rocking opening band that set the tone! loved it!

We've been lucky to see Mudcrutch 4 times (2 last tour, 2 this tour) and their sound is a bit different than TP & the Heartbreakers. It's fun to hear and see the dynamics between these old friends. On Mudcrutch 2, each band member wrote (and perform) a song, while Tom did the rest. This event was a remarkable band in an awesome venue!

With Tom Petty as bandleader, bassist and lead singer, Mudcrutch engaged the audience with southern charm and good time rock 'n roll filled with catchy songs, a little bluegrass and some psychedelia. Herb Pederson, of the Desert Rose Band, played a supporting role on acoustic guitar, banjo and harmony vocals. Heartbreaker's guitarist extraorinaire, Mike Campbell, tried his hand at theramin on one psychedelic passage. Benmont Tench, Heartbreaker's pianist, Tom Leadon, guitarist, and Randell Marsh, drummer sang songs they wrote. Petty seemed to have fun reuniting with his old Gainsville bandmates.

This particular version of Petty n co. is quite memorable. In its stripped down, kinda countryfide, incarnation. Petty n friends treat their true fans to all new songs. Written by all the members of Mudcrutch, allows for some non-Petty sounding tunes but strong ditty's non the less. I like the new album, I liked the tour. Thanks Tom...Thank you very much

Mudcrutch was fun. Entirely new repertoire from Petty n co. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing an entire show of new music. With Tom on Bass n vocals. Mike Campbell assumed all the lead guitar. I was intrigued by all the different songwriting styles exhibited by the band. I liked the Benmont tunes. The storytelling of the youth of an iconic band in infancy will be memorable for years to come. Thank You Tom for showing your diehard fans a completely new and different view. Iwill will cherish

For anyone who might think that Mudcrutch is Petty's weird or mellow band, forget it. These guys ROCK. Every bit as rewarding as Tom and Mike with the Heartbreakers, and, a few of my group called it as better. Better now maybe because so much of Tom's solo albums, and the Heartbreaker albums, have been so overplayed for so many years. The Mudcrutch material was new (to us), fresh, excellent, and oh, did I say they rocked?

How refreshing to see a big star like Tom Petty and Heartbreaker sidekicks Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench in such a small place and clearly having a ball with some old (40 year old!) and some new material. Unlike a Heartbreakers show, Tom played bass and lead vocals were passed around 5 of the six members. Drummer Randall Marsh was notable for meshing with the three frontmen who have been playing continuously for decades. Also a treat to have multi-stringman, background singer extraordinaire Herb Pederson as part of the band.

Have always been a fan. Ever since WBCN first played the live version of Breakdown recorded during a live broadcast from the Paradise, but had never seen them live. I knew seeing these guys in a club this size would be special, even though word had it that they wouldn't be playing any Heartbreaker songs, and WOW, what a show! It rocked! And in the end, I don't think one person left that show upset that they only played Mudcrutch (and a couple of covers).

This is the second time I've seen Tom Petty and the Pre-Heartbreakers' incarnation. The first was several years ago at the Troubadour, an absolutely amazing experience. This time we had seats -- yes, we're all getting older, sorry to say -- in a somewhat larger venue, the 450 or so Plaza Del Sol Performance Hall on the Cal State University Northridge campus. Another absolutely amazing experience. To be able to see TP, Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh that close is truly special. The fact that the proceeds were going to help L.A.'s homeless population made it even better. The set list focused on the two Mudcrutch releases, with a couple of excellent covers. No TP & the Heartbreakers tunes, other than the somewhat obscure "Trailer", but why would they? They sound incredible, and the band's tunes are great. Go see this band, which is on tour now!!

It was an amazing show! Sound was epic. The Ryman was beautiful! The "security" was terrible! Couldn't see a good potion of the show due to the roamers that just wandered down and hung out...no one willing to stop them! A wheelchair bound man left early..he had a seat on the aisle but the people thay were allowed to walk down front freely obstructed his entire view. Just doesn't seem fair that someone doesn't have to do their job and so many people are negatively affected by it'

This was the first time I was able to see Mudcrutch live. As expected, they didn't disappoint. I've seen Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers numerous times over the years and for as fantastic as they have always been Mudcrutch was a different type of show. While TPATH has a very rich catalog of material there are always albums that are left off of their live shows. Mudcrutch only has two albums of songs to play and I knew that I was going to be tremendously entertained to see them perform the majority of their material. And they played it SO WELL! These guys are technically senior citizens but you would never know it watching and seeing them play. It's the old adage of they keep getting better with age and it fits them to the proverbial 'T.' The only disappointment was that this show had to at some point come to and end. I hope Mudcrutch continues to put out new material in years to come along with new material from TPATH. I SO want to see them again. Great job guys!

First off--The Tabernacle--we had seats in section 304--row C---couldn't see half the stage due to a lighting issue---had to move on my own to seats that weren't being used. The rows are cramped and the seats aren't that comfortable. It was also a little warm in section 300 that evening. As for the show--The Shelters were forgettable. No big deal. I was SO EXCITED to see this band. After watching the video "Runnin Down a Dream" and reading Tom Petty's biography I was aware that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers started out as Mudcrutch, but I never in a million years would have guessed that I would actually experience their music! Having loved Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers since 1976 it never ceases to amaze me how long they have stayed together. It was wonderful to see Tom, Mike Campbell, and Benmont Tench and then to be introduced to their original drummer and bass player. (Sorry, can't remember their names). The bass player sings wonderfully and he and Tom harmonized beautifully together. I especially like them on "Other Side of the Mountain". I absolutely LOVED experiencing Mudcrutch's bluegrass/mountain music with just a touch of rock thrown into the mix. This is the 7th time I've seen Tom Petty. I drive, fly, (and even crawl) just to see himI LOVE this band and I'm wearing my Mudcrutch t-shirt right now. What I wouldn't give to have been there in Gainesville Florida to witness the start of one of the greates bands of all time!!!

Incredible performance. Tom and the boys kick it throughout the high energy show. And the sardonic way Tom sings "Well you're right that no one informed you, I guess I should have warned you, it's all a con test" in "Save your Water." Yeah, a Con Test. Lol. And to think this was one of the first four songs he ever wrote, but didn't release it because he didn't think it was "good!" Not only is it "good" it's great! So get to a Mudcrutch show this summer! As usual, Tom Petty was incredible. The music is always tight and the interaction of the band members with each other fun to watch. There was a good mix of songs from both Mudcrutch albums as well as other songs. I'm glad I live close enough (although it is a 5 hour drive one way) to make a Nashville show. I appreciated the limits on ticket sales - this probably made these Mudcrutch shows accessible to a wider range of fans. I am a big Tom Petty fan, so I knew I would not be disappointed. Holy Moley, 2nd row center....At the RYMAN! I never will need to attend another concert. I'm done, Mudcrutch was that good........I don't think Petty can put on a bad show but this was the best in the 30 years I've been seeing him. Also the new album "2" from Mudcrutch is by far the strongest set from Petty in years, The whole dang band shines and the songs the others contributed are just as powerful as the ones Petty solo wrote, I'm talkin about Randall, Benmont and Mike.... It's as good as anything he's done.......go buy it thrice.....one for the car, one for the office, one for the bedroom...

Won tickets to this show from 104.5 KFOG. I was really excited, because I'm a big Tom Petty fan and I have never seen him live with any band. Mudcrutch, if you didn't already know, was originally active from 1970-75 and three of the members, Tom Petty, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, would go on to form Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. They reunited in 2008, to record their debut album and play a couple live shows, but it took another eight years for them to get around to their sophomore effort and this, their first tour. Even though three of the five band members have been in The Heartbreakers for forty years now, not everything sounds exactly like their main band, though a few moments, notably their first single, "Scare Easy", very much do. Distinctly, all members have at least a brief time in the role of lead vocalist and Tom plays bass instead of his usual guitar, though that doesn't seem to have as much of an effect on the music as you might think. The overall feel of the show was that the band was having fun and wanted to share that fun. The original songs ranged vastly in style, from country rock, to folk, to an almost grunge rock-y thing here and there, as well as a couple covers, including an excellent rendition of "Knocking On Heaven's Door". Tom's comments between songs were a good primer for those who didn't know what to expect. The opening band were called The Shelters. They were sort of a mix of Nirvana, Billy Idol and Stray Cats. Regardless of how that looks in theory, it sounds really good live. They just released their first album, which they recorded in Tom Petty's home studio, with tube amps. I hope they get as much recognition as they deserve. Mudcrutch were great, Shelters were great, and I hope they do this again sometime!

Always liked seeing Tom Petty in concert so when I learned he was touring with a "new" band I had to check it out. I had no idea this was a revival of one of the first bands he ever played in. What a fantastic show! Notes of the old Tom Petty could be heard as well as a country rock twang that was very pleasing. Plus the band played all of a just released album (Mudcrutch II) that was simply awesome. Took some friends who were over from Australia and Germany and they were amazed. I hope we get another chance to see them again!

Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Randall Marsh, Tom Leadon, and Benmont Tench put on such an amazing show. They performed songs from both albums as well as a cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."

I have never been disappointed with Tom Petty and whoever he is playing with. I didn't even know this band existed, but I'm glad my friend convinced me to go. Even though we were in the nosebleeds it still was a fantastic show.

Anything Tom Petty does, he gives it his all and this concert was no different. Bluesy grassy with a great beat and poetic lyrics...For awhile I forgot everything else in the world. The only problem I see was that it couldn't last longer...like forever!

I have been a Tom Petty fan for many years and haven't seen a bad show of his yet. I was a bit apprehensive about Mudcrutch because I wasn't sure what I was going to get. I don't love bluegrass music, I am more of a Rock guy but I was incredibly impressed. Tench, Campbell and Petty were as solid as ever.

What a perfect venue and a perfect night to see Mudcrutch close their tour. Because they did not offer chairs, we were able to stand close to the stage and move about. Very exciting to be that close to these great performers. The music was fantastic... a little more lowkey than when you see Tom with all the Heartbreakers... but Mudcrutch has some great songs too. I loved that I received the Mudcrutch CDs as part of the ticket order. It's fun to get familiar with the songs ahead of the concert. We were all a bit confused as to why Humphreys didn't offer seats. Then there was the concern that people would be lining up way early and taking all the space near the stage. But we walked in after the opening act had begun and had no problem finding a spot quite close to the stage. As long as a show like this isn't sold to too many people it makes for a nice size crowd and everyone getting close to the stage.

Anyone expecting to heat Heartbreakers hits would be disappointed but Mudcrutch is truly a shared project for Petty, Cambell, Tench and company. They were sharp, tight and a delight to listen to. The venue was great and it was a wonderful night. The Shelters opened and they were very good. Kudos to Mudcrutch and Humphrey's By The Bay.

Mudcrutch was the band that Tom Petty went to L.A. with in the Mid 70's .. the label liked TP only and the Heartbreakers were formed in their aftermath .... TP reformed them several years ago and now for a second time allows him to explore what might have been ... The band is part Grateful Dead - Eagles - CSNY on songs like Crystal River and Hungry No More plus Save Your Water was the first song TP wrote ... Petty plays bass in Mudcrutch rather than the lead and rhythm guitar role he holds in the Heartbreakers trading his Fender Telecaster for a vintage Les Paul body bass .... The Bottom line is this like a old High School bands reuniting and it's refreshing to hear new/old music live ... because TP & The Heartbreakers are a victim of FM Classic Rock .. too good not to play but played way too much

Just really solid rock and roll with some southern spices. Wonderful songs - and lots of them. Great jams. Amazing store of the band and how Tom, Mike and Benmont re-united with the pals of their youth who didn't make it to the big time. And, the album came with the ticket - bonus! It's in my car now and sounding great in the summer heat. The Fox in Oakland is also a very cool venue. And, the opening act, The Shelters are also very cool. They won over the crowd by the end of their set.

I would highly recommend this event. I have seen Tom Petty at least 20 times in my lifetime, with different band members and different performers/musicians sitting in. He never, ever disappoints. The same was true of the Mudcrutch show at the Fox in Oakland last week. They were professional, engaging and made you feel special. You can always feel the love when in his (their) presence. The music transports you (me), and for a little while, the thoughts of all the hate and madness in the world dissipate. And it's all about the music and the love. Thanks for that.

Great band and great show! Watching Tom Petty takes you to another level. No Heartbreakers songs in the set, but Mudcrutch stands on their own

No matter what the name, Petty and the whole group can still bring it! Collaboration in this group and their clear love for the sound is evident in each song.

Anytime Petty & band can cover Dylan, it's a great evening. A different feeling from a Heartbreaker concert, and much more intimate. Rock on, Tom, Mike, Benmont and band! Loved it!!
