The Auditorium Theatre was as grand as all the other reviewers have stated... as I walked up one level from the main floor to my dress circle seats, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the place. Then when we got to our seats, which were much closer than I'd expected (Row AA of dress circle), I got to take in the whole theatre in its pre-performance golden glow. Simply magnificent. The seats were great; we could see everything very well, save for the expressions on the dancers' faces (good thing they know how to emote with their whole bodies). :) I've attached a pic from our seats. The temperature was just right, as the place was packed and it wasn't stuffy at all. As for the performance themselves, it was a joy to see ABT do Giselle, and seeing two of the world's best dancers headlining (Natalia Osipova and David Hallberg) made it all the more special. Osipova defied gravity as usual with her ridiculously buoyant jumps, and her pique turns at the end of the 1st act variation were breathtakingly rapid. Every time she was on stage, my senses were electrified. And Hallberg was a wonderful Albrecht, with his princely good looks, beautifully shaped legs and feet, and divine jumps. Such a wonderful pair, those two--I consider myself very lucky to have seen them dance together. Wonderful orchestra, too!

The performance was amazing, and the dancers are top notch. The elegance, professionalism, and making the most difficult seem effortless was simply astounding. The tickets were a little steep for this market environment, but hey to me it was worth it.

Giselle performed by the ABT was wonderful to watch. They were so fluid and elegant. I saw the show on March 23, 2012 which was my birthday. So, glad I decided to see it! I've been telling everyone about the lovely costumes. I can't wait to see them perform again in the future.

We recently went to see the American Ballet Theater's(ABT) performance of Romeo and Juliet at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. I was initially concerned that the Friday night performance might lack the energy and spark that we have come to expect from our previous experiences with ABT. I am delighted to say that, as with every other performance that we have attended, we were not disappointed. Bravo, ABT! Keep up the good work!

I might be biased being a former ballet dancer, but this show was amazing. Irina and Roberto were phenomenal. Irina was the perfect Juliet - so fluid and light. Roberto was just the opposite, every turn was so centered and on balance and his dancing was very strong. The rest of the company was great as well. So much emotion and character - a must see show for every dance lover!

I was with several teenagers who were seeing a classical ballet for the first time, but none were dancers. All of those who had seen the play live or read Romeo and Juliet, found the performance more enjoyable than those who did not know the story. The town "scenes" were a bit slow for them, but I would consider this an excellent production for ballet neophites. I would highly recommend the brief lecture presented prior to the performance, where the students learned about some of the cues and what to look for in certain scenes. Several students had a difficult time determing who the main characters were in the original scenes. I would recommend binoculars, as there are several times where there is little dancing as the performers "act" out the emotions of the story. With the binoculars, it was easier to capture the expressions of the characters. I prefer balcony seats to see the lines and and precision of the corps, but this was not a feature of the choreography in Romeo and Juliet. It was difficult to judge to the height of the leaps in the balcony. I think the students would have preferred orchestra level seating. Finally, LA audiences need to learn appropriate ettiquette for a ballet. One woman was giving a running commentary behind me and complaining how the story did not adequately follow the play! One person would loudly "Shh!" others, which was more distracting than those who were talking. Although the tickets stated no late entries, there was an unacceptable number of guests who shuffled across rows up to a half an hour late. Finally, I was shocked at the number of people who left during the curtain calls! The elderly woman next to me, during a standing ovation, pushed her program against my back forcing me to leave my seat! Unbelievable! Of course, when you see the musicians in the pit leaving during the curtain calls, I guess the audience felt that was their cue to leave also. My teenage students knew to sit quietly, keep their opinions to themselves during the performance, yawn discreetly, and clap at appropriate times. If you can't be polite during the 2.5 hour performance (including two intermissions), you will get far more pleasure by donating your ticket to an aspiring ballerina and hearing their gratitude, than you will get complaining in your seat! Teens who are adequately prepared, will enjoy the performance and will remember it for a lifetime. They may not choose to attend another ballet, but this is one of the best performances to expose them to classical ballet.

Extremely well done. Gomez and Paloma danced beautifuly as did Craig Salstein and the acting was excellent too. In this ballet the leads do the bulk of the dancing and some scenes are primarily acted out and a little slow but the entire production is beautiful

The Ballet performance was BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Paloma Herrera is such a gifted , talented and amazing dancer!!! Just watching her body glide through the stage while dancing and performing her role was just breathtaking!!! I especially noticed her feet while dancing backwards so effortlessly....like she was on air. She portrayed a beautiful Juliet with that beautiful structured body and long dark hair. The emotions that her face showed during certain scenes was captivating

American Ballet Theatre's Romeo and Juliet at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion last night (July 16) was superb. The Italian superstar dancer Roberto Bolle was absolutely sensational. His dancing was technically great, extremely graceful, his hands and arms were very expressive. His dancing appeared effortless, he floated across the stage, truly "partnered" his partner, his acting (not overacting) believable and tender. The Ukrainian born ballerina Irina Dvorovenko created a beautiful Juliet, beautiful dancing and acting. Together Bolle and Dvorovenko were superb. Bolle is the best male dancer I have seen since Nureyev.

THE LIVE ORCHESTRA WAS INTRIGUING AND IT WAS A PERFECT SCORE! THE DANCERS IN THIS PRODUCTION WERE EXTREMELY TALENTED. MERCUTIO AND TYBOLT'S PORTRAYAL MADE MAGIC TOGETHER (LOPEZ WAS ESPECIALLY INTERTAINING AND HAD FINESSE IN HIS MOVEMENTS). MY 12 YEAR OLD ATTENDED WITH ME AND WAS MEMORIZED BY WHAT SHE SAW. SHE DANCED ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE CENTER. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BEAUTY INTO OUR LIVES!

Romeo and Juliet is one of my most favorite ballets, and to see it performed by ABT made it just that much more beautiful. Wonderfully staged, great sets and costumes and of course a world class orchestra. All this AND amazing dancers. The ABT is highly talented throughout. A great corps, gifted soloists. The principals of this performance, Roberto Bolle and Irina Dvorovenko are stunning! Irina's skill as a dancer are unquestionable and exemplary. Her ability to portray death (when she first takes the poison) and trust her partner fully is almost disturbing because you think she really is dead! This only heightens the drama and saddness of this timeless love story. I understand Roberto just joined the ABT this year as a principal. Are we in for some amazing ballet from this stunning dancer who is a visual banquet in so many ways. I'll be looking for more ABT, most definitely.

I have seen a few ballets and I am not a critic or a professional. They are always beautiful but this performance of "Romeo and Juliet" was spectacular! Don't be afraid to take your kids. My teenager loved it ! This was so much more than I expected. The Talent of Romeo and Juliet was beyond heart stopping and the supporting dancers very talented as well. As a side note the costumes, and backdrops and stage scenery was beautiful and very well done! This is a ballet thats not to be missed!

I saw Roberto Bolle a few months ago in London performing Swan Lake and again last night in R&J. He is the consummate ballet dancer and ridiculously handsome. He cranks out six pirouettes like silk. He has fluidity, elegance, sweetness and physical beauty. He and Irina D. were lovely as R&J. They were romantic and exhibited graceful emotion. The sets were appropriate and loved the color tone of the costumes and the orchestra . The corps, however, needs coaching. After seeing the Royal Ballet in London, it set a new standard of excellence in terms of corps. ABT does not measure. They need coaching on the uniformity of their lines, placement, and staying together. While the men were adequate (they need to seat their plies), they just do not have the audience appeal of R.B. He is stunning in the true sense of the word. Wow!

ABT bowed in to Los Angeles Thursday evening to an enthusiastic full house of balletomanes with a polished production of Sir Kenneth MacMillan's choreography of the Prokofiev ballet ROMEO AND JULIET. By now this production by the ABT has a burnished patina of legendary status and the entire cast was exceptional. Roberto Bolle, in his Los Angeles debut, gave credence to all the fame he has achieved as a danseur noble in his sensitive and sensuous Romeo. He was perfectly partnered with the elegant young Irina Dvorovenko as Juliet. Each of the casts will be different for this run of the ballet, but the production is so strong that it promises to be a series of successes in the varying changes of the lead roles. This is one of those events that everyone should see - the appeal is not only the beauty of the dancing but also one of the finest renderings of the Romeo and Juliet story ever created.

From the off, let me just say that I do NOT like Romeo & Juliet, the story, the play, the ballet...but any excuse to see the ABT in action is good enough for me. They did not disappoint. The dancing was superb, as always; IRINA DVOROVENKO was a wonderful Juliet, innocent and playful. There were moments when she practically floated across the floor. ROBERTO BOLLE has a reputation that he lives up to. He dances really powerfully and the lifts are perfectly beautiful. As I mentioned, I am not a fan of this particular ballet, I find the music less than moving, the staging clunky, obnoxious costuming, and the characters exasperating, so if I could get over it and love the ABT production, anyone is remotely a fan of dance will enjoy it! I much prefer Swan Lake, Manon or Sylvia, but any ABT is better than no ABT.

The dancers were amazing as expected from American Ballet Theatre. However, the music was not good. The first part was to a Bach violin solo - very boring. The Sinatra suite music was good, of course. The music for On the Town was not what I expected and I did not like it. I know Leonard Bernstein wrote it, but I did not enjoy it. For me, the music must be good and coupled with wonderful ballet makes a marvelous experience. Maybe the ABT could consider this for their future programs.

The reason I attended my first American Ballet Theatre production was largely in part to Misty Copeland. I was very much intrigue by her story and the beauty of her as a person and of her dance. Needless to say I was not let down. She was extraordinary!! The entire cast was absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed every moment. The seat that we had were exceptional and the view was amazing. The theatre itself is remarkably beautiful and having the elevator for my companion was a plus. The young man running the elevator was a gem. The entire experience was above reproach.

Bach Partita accompaniment by Charles Yang was exquisite. The dance itself, while very beautiful was too long. Some Assembly Required was whimsical and delightful. The dancers were quite beautiful. And, again, the accompaniment by Charles Yang and David LaMarche was brilliant. The Sinatra Suite was an unexpected delight. It was delightful to see the dancers segue from jazz to traditional and back. A really wonderful interpretation of Sinatra songs. And Fancy Free, with full orchestra, was another wonderful piece, whimsical, humorous and delightful. We always enjoy seeing performances by the ABT, and always find them challenging and wonderful. Please extend our thanks to the performers, include the musicians.

Wow, this ballet was fantastic! There were four different "acts" with the first being your traditional ballet. That was flawless! The second was a man and a woman dancing and it was more of a contemporary ballet which was very good. The third was Misty Copeland and her partner dancing to Frank Sinatra and OMG that was to die for! Wow, I can't say enough about it. The last act was more of a broadway show, which I could have passed on. All together I would highly recommend it!

My wife and I went to the Saturday night performance and it was an amazing production. Twyla Tharp's choreography is fantastic. The dancers performed with so much precision. Misty Copeland is a true talent, she was a wonder to watch. Gillian Murphy, Stella Abrera, James Whiteside, Marcelo Gomes and Calvin Royal III all were great in the opening act - Bach Partita. The violinist did an outstanding job. How could he play for so long? Wow. Some Assembly Required was fun to watch. It completely captured the ups and downs, on the same page, not on the same page, of a relationship. Clark Tippet did a fabulous job capturing the essence of a comprehensive romantic relationship. Frank Sinatra Suite was great - Misty Copeland is a wonderful talent. She was everything I thought she would be live. The dancers moved with such grace and ease. Great show. We loved every minute of it.

The two Twyla Tharp dances were absolutely terrific, especially Sinatra Songs with Copeland and Gomes. First off - I LOVE LOVE LOVE the ABT. I was so excited that they were coming to town. I have been going since I was young (and I'm no spring chicken), but the pieces they chose to perform in Chicago seemed very random - kind of like a "pre-opening" night to see how the audience received it. Very disappointed. Won't stop me from going to see ABT again, but please step up your game.... Sinatra (really?) I thought I was watching Dancing With The Stars. Fancy Free - Did you really have to revive Broadway? If I wanted Broadway I would have gone to see Broadway. My reaction is not fair to the dancers, however, who were fabulous.

As followers of Misty Copeland who has met her and heard her unique story, we were amazed and thrilled with her performance with the ABT in Chicago. We thought the ABT performed this classic to perfection.

The Auditorium Theatre is quite possibly the best place in town to see any ballet performance; the perfect acoustics allow you to hear every football, which is important. American Ballet Theatre doesn't come to Chicago all that often, so I try not to miss them when they do. This performance didn't disappoint; new star Misty Copeland was as brilliant as I had heard, and several older favorites (Gomes, Murphy) were as brilliant as always. The American choreographer program is more of a retrospective than "best of" American choreography program. The two Twarp pieces are terrific. Bach Partita is far and away the best balletic piece she ever did. It's totally jacked, it alone is worth the price of the ticket. However the two older pieces by Robbins and Tippet are just that "old". If the intent of the program is to demonstrate the breadth and evolution of American choreography from the 1940's to the 1980's then the program does accomplish that. If on the otherhand the intent is to pick the most dynamic choreographers of the past 50 years and put together a knock your socks off program, there are a number of other pieces that could have been included in the program that would have left us breathless. I vote for breathless.

It was my first time ever going to a ballet and I was not impressed. I did enjoy it though. It seemed really short... Make sure you get there ON TIME. We were like 5 minutes late (it was raining...) and they had already closed the door so we had to sit on the balcony for the whole first act. Once you get to the actual seats you bought, it can get a little overwhelming (it is ridiculously close) and sometimes it was hard to see towards the back of the stage... a row or two further would not hurt.

It isn't often that I'm able to get to a performance by a premier company, and was so pleased to find them on the list for the Arts Festival. ABT's Giselle is without a doubt , the crowning jewel of the VA Arts Festival. To say that this performance was incredible would be a vast understatement( You can can clearly see that they are true masters of the Cecchetti and Vaganova methods, which are the hallmarks of this wonderful ballet). The dancing, the scenery and the costumes were wonderful, and the orchestra and the music were glorious. The lovely, delicate ballerina who danced Giselle was ethereal and her face and body wonderfully expressive. Her handsome Count was her equal in every way. However, the dancer who performed as the Queen of the Willis almost stole the show with her fierce, smoldering performance as did the couple who danced during the festival of the grapes. The corps de ballet had the grace and stamina of the premier artists and athletes that they are and I sat there wondering which of them would be the next principal dancer at the ABT.

How wonderful to be able to see a performance by the American Ballet Theatre in a local venue! Needless to say, the dancers were spectacular. The sets were lovely, and the lighting so perfectly executed. Thanks to Chrysler Hall for bringing performances of thiis caliber to the area.

Saw ABT in Norfolk, VA. I highly recommend it. Paloma Herrera was amazing as Giselle so was Gillian Murphy as Myarta. Cory Stearns was originally going to be Albrecht but he wasn't able to make it which was okay since Roberto Bolle was his replacement and was very very good. The orchestra was amazing as well. Overall I would recommend it all. Will see ABT again.

The performance by ABT was out of this world. Dancers are incredibly talented and the show they put on was fantastic. Unbelievable talent and beauty. Music/orchestra was also fantastic. Really enjoyed having the live orchestra. Sets and costumes were beautiful. What did leave a bit to be desired were the Auditorium staff who sent my elderly mother and I to 3 different places to our seats.....turned out they were reading our tickets wrong! It would be great if the staff knew what they were doing. Also, the audience was one of the rudest audiences I've ever been a part of. I have never been to a ballet where people were crass enough to actually take pictures! Don't they know that this presents a danger to the dancers??!! People talked loudly throughout the performance, unwrapped and ate candy, used their cell phones, text messaged.....unbelieveable!! The Auditorium should do better to communicate the expectations for audience members and enforce when people do not comply. When I am spending $100 on a ticket to see a show, I expect people to respect others around them like I try to.....

It was a fantastic performance Jared amd Yoriko did a beautiful job. They always do! I took two young and asspiring dancers to this performance one of them had never been to a ballet before and both of them where inspired. Me and my girlfriend/co director that took them have been to see abt before and it was one of the best performances.

We were quite disappointed in the performance, as we were expecting David Halberg to dance, and instead we had all second stringers and chorus. Not ONE principal dancer performed -- and yet tickets were full price!!! Jumps were landed loudly and in wrong position, legs were not straight, there were obvious errors in balance. And way, way, way too much walking around instead of dancing. We are regular attendees at the Joffrey, and the ABT came in a poor second.

It was terrific! Each principal displayed such agility and grace. I was spellbound by the death scene. All of the dancers were in unison as they came to the center of the stage. Amazing!!!

I always love Giselle and ABT. I wish I hadn't read the amazing review of Julie Kent's performance as we had the other lead (I forgot her name.) She wasn't as weightless and ethereal as we have come to expect from an ABT lead, but was wonderful and her emoting was fabulous. She had me in tears by the end of the first half. The male leads were fabulous and the corps beautiful, as were the sets and costumes. I'd see it again.

My first time at the Auditorium theatre and I found the theatre beautiful, the sound system expansive and exceptional, the staff helpful, gracious and knowledgeable, the crowd well managed. I will certainly recommend and attend furture events that interest me at this theatre. And, then there was the ABT presentation of Giselle -- perfect! For me, the American Ballet Theatre is by far the best and I will see whatever event they present, whether New York, Chicago or Los Angeles! My thanks to ABT and the Auditorium Theatre for an exceptional and memorable event.

One of the loveliest Giselle productions I've seen. In spite of the fact that Hallberg did not dance at the matinee, we were captivated by the talent, strength and symmetry we witnessed. The ABT doesn't get much better than this.

Giselle is amazing and the dancers exceptional. Last time I saw Giselle it was with Gelsey Kirkland. Paloma Herrera is just as spectacular. The only problem I had, did not even have to do with ballet, it was a bottle of water I purchased. it smelt and tasted bad.

Osipova & Hallburg are one of ballet's rare and beautiful pairings. They move as one, they compliment each other and they are almost equals in their technical ability. Osipova is a phenomenon. The effortless motion, the smooth transitions and her incredible strength while still showing great acting ability are a joy to behold. A staggering achievement
