Rob has truly taken Music fluency to another level. I think that anyone could appreciate his music, as it does so much other than entertain. It educates, informs, and nearly has a nutritional value to the ear. Simply amazing. Each show is like a once in a lifetime experience.

Awesome show! I didn't know what to expect because I never heard R Glasper live. I wasnt totally disappointed because I have music background and can appreciate the sound of great music. The disappointment sat in when I realize there wouldnt be any artist performing. If you are expecting a artist to perform at this "experient" lol this might not be for you. But I Will definitely see Mr Glasper again.

I am a huge fan of Robert Glasper and attend his shows whenever he is near and even when he is away. This was the first time I remember him having such a long break which was not ideal for a weekday show. I would suggest that the break is eliminated. There was about a 40 min break between the opening act and the show actually starting. The show was great as usual so no complaints there.

I really enjoyed the band, but there was too much auto-tune. I would have enjoyed it much better they added a singer for most of the songs in place of the auto-tune.

I have been enjoying the band's music for a while but this was my first time hearing them live. Robert Glasper is very personable and silly and deflates the "seriousness" that can be perceived at a jazz concert. All the members play exceptionally well, you get completely sucked into their music.

Excellent show! Top notch musicians. Great interaction with audience. Plays what audience wants to hear as well as giving some of him and exposing the bands true artistry and musicianship.

No sound check, it seems, since they were still adjusting the sound during the encore and the bass drum rattled the stage every second all night long and that was not the case at this venue for other shows. But more importantly, every single song has auto tuned/vocoder vocals. Vocoder is a sound effect--not an instrument! Either hire a singer or use the vocoder sparingly--as the effect it is intended to be. Casey is a good sax player, but Glasper needs to rethink the use of Casey's auto tuned/vocoder on every single song. Casey only played sax on two songs the whole night, while the vocoder was used on every single song. And Glasper is a bit full of himself. Maybe he was this way before winning the Grammy (I don't know), but he is certainly this way now. I appreciate the goals of Glasper's neo-soul updated version of Gaye's I Want You and Stevie's Songs In the Key of Life, but it isn't exactly new or experiment(al). The live show should be much much much better.

If you happen to see that THE Robert Glasper is headed your way, don't miss it. Anyone with ears can appreciate the surplus of talent RG brings to the stage. You will never see more display of musical range than what you will see at one of these performances. Don't think that you've heard it all just because you have the CD, because you have really just begun.

Robert Glasper is an artist that all jazz, soul and hip hop music aficionados must see in concert. He is a pleasure to watch and his comedic timing is on point. Glasper played much of Black Radio's tracks. Added bonuses included the Experiment's drummer Mark Colenberg and the amazing Casey Benjamín on the vocoder. To see Common join the stage with an unforgettable freestyle, was the icing on the cake. I highly recommend this concert!

My only complaint is that I didn't want the show to end. Every act was great. Robert Glasper and company were phenomenal. Plus Common dropped some of his lyrical dopeness. When you are at a show that is ranging from covering Sade to Slum Village to Outkast to Nirvana...need I even say more to get you to go? If the answer is yes, you're not ready.

The concert was sick! Glasper is an emerging force in the vine of great jazz artists such as Hancock, Roy Ayers, Lyle Mays, but with that new flavor.

Austin Peralta was an odd choice to start of the night. Taylor Mcferrin really turned on the lights and caught the attention of the audience, preparing them for a celebration of heart and soul with Jose James. It all seemed to be getting better and better until Glasper and his "Experiment" came on after a long break. Sadly, it felt like things did not come together well for Glasper. The instruments, sound and lighting were off and he was affected by it. Put that together with a bigger than normal ego and possibly too much alcohol ? Well, that's not a good recipe. It was by far, the worst performance of the night. Albeit Glasper being a highly gifted pianist, the experiment, sadly, had failed. It was still worth going for James and Mcferrin. If not for them I would have wanted my money back.

I just discovered Robert Glasper about a month ago and have been listening to the album Black Radio ever since. The show lived up to the album. Although not illuminated by the lighting, Robert Glasper had a great stage presence and the guy with the red mohawk is an amazing musician.

I was recently turned on to Glasper and I'm so glad I was! Not only is he and his band extremely talented - I'm talking playing one song with the left side of your body and another song with the right side - but he's SO friggin' funny! Just go see his show. Just go :)

I m a huge fan of Robert Glasper. Especially the experiment. However, I was disappointed after seeing them. They didn t perform barely any of their own music and when they did they played the same song for 20-30minutes straight. There were also a lot of distractions happening during the show. Members of the band kept leaving on and off the stage, at one point RG was recording on his phone, smoking out of a vaporizer. It was a bit much happening. Casey Benjamin carried that show. He was AMAZING. The drummer was FIRE as well. I would give them another chance but this show wasn t the best.

Never knew Robert Glasper was SO funny. Very talented group. Every musician was fantastic and had a chance to showcase his talent. Loved the guest appearances as well. The Birchmere is an awesome venue and the sound and lighting crews we're so on point. Great show!

Robert Glasper is one of the greatest musicians working today. The band was equally amazing- Mark Colenburg, Casey Benjamin. Just like a studio jam session, but crisp and focused.

First time I saw Glasper and the Trio at Blue Note Jazz Club in NYC. It was more than I imagined. Couldn't pass up the chance to see Glasper and the Experiment in DC. Needless to say everything about the concert surpassed my expectations and the Birchmere venue has become a favorite of mine in the DMV. Will return!

This was my first time seeing the Robert Glasper Experiment and I am glad I did. I rarely want to see a band twice, but this is certainly one I would see again. I purchased the two CD's that were available and love them both. Glasper is an amazing talent and very funny. He clearly has a good rapport with his band that adds to the whole experience. I would highly recommend his show to all music lovers. Robert invited concert goers to an after party that I also attended. The lead singer DJ'd at the party which was awesome. It was great to hear the music he appreciates. It added to the experience. It was an incredible night.

Musicians talent are wonderful however I was disappointed that there was not a real vocalist available to sing the songs. Not that I expected the vocalist that are on his album to ding the songs. I just didn't appreciate that all of the songs sound like they are computerized. Like The song computer love from the 80's. That would be fine if thats the sound you listen to on the cd. However that is not the case. Goapele gave a much better performance and her ticket cost $20 less.

I will start this off by saying that I love Hip Hop and always will and seeing Robert Glasper is nothing like seeing someone Common or Little Brother (why do all of the dope groups split???). However, if you are at the point in your life where you can appreciate true artistry and enjoy Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop then you will love seeing the Experiment perform live. Everyone in the Experiment is a master at their respective instrument and listening to them each do their solos is nothing short of amazing. On top of that, Robert Glasper is a fool! I told my wife that I would love to see him and Phonte on the same stage together because I'd probably laugh as hard as I was vibin' to the music. I digress. Go see them in concert!

Robert Glasper is one of my favorite artists. I was looking forward to this show for months. But I was disappointed with the outcome. His wingman Casey Benjamin did most of the vocals from his latest 2 albums. That would not have been a problem if he had not used a computerized vocal machine the entire time. The first two sets were ok, but I couldn't take it any more when he did Common's "Like Water for Chocolate" with the computerized vocals. Background vocalists would have been a wiser option and a lot more entertaining. Also I was disappointed with the meal that night. I ordered shrimp and grits and there were only five shrimp in a huge bowl of cheesy grits. There were enough grits in that bowl to feed 3 or 4 people. The overall experience was lackluster. My favorite artist and my favorite meal combined made for a disappointing experience.

RGE YEILDED A PHENOMINAL PERFORMANCE..{clears throat} or..EXPERIENCE RATHER.. that will not be soon forgotten. It was a relief to finally see the experiment live and di-DAMN-rect.. I dropped the ball some time ago by not making it out to the experiment when it was in Durham, NC.. Since I was passing through ATL around the time of the experiment I just coordinated things so that I could recover from missing out initially... Facilitating that resolve only awakened a desire to experience the experiment as much as possible moving forward!! Great show!! Great performance!! Great jazz!! Great art!!!

I enjoyed the Robert Glasper Experiment live. The music was great and the instrumental solos were awesome. One thing I didn't really like was the fact that the frontman used the voice distortion a little too much. I loved the fact that the group had guest artists come and sing a couple of songs. Algebra Blessett and Anthony David were phenomenal! I wish I could have heard more of their vocals. I think RGE needs to provide more vocals (maybe by hiring local talent to sing the vocal parts of his songs off the Black Radio albums) so that the voice distortion is not overkill. Toward the end, it got to be too much. Overall, I enjoyed the show and I would see RGE again live.

The only reason I gave his concert four stars instead of five is because I was hoping to see more special guests from Black Radio 2 perform with him. Other than that it was an awesome show!

The musicianship was awesome, especially the drummer! However, the absence of live vocals was the missing piece to bring the experience together. The vocals was substituted with one of the band members using a vocal box for all of the sets, except when Algebra, a local artist and not even featured on any of his albums, to perform "Calls" by Jill Scott. Algebra is talented, but anyone who lives in Atlanta can hear her. She was definitely better than any voice box however. To listen to vocals, for every song, through a voice box, is absolutely an annoyance, and lacks vocal skill and talent. Overall, Robert Glasper is a talented pianist/keyboardist and has great ear for music. However, what creates the Robert Glasper Experiment, is the band (Experiment) and the featured artists on every song of the Black Radio compilation. There is no Robert Glasper without the featured artists.

I barely have any words for the Robert Glasper Exeriment. It was an amazing show! Along with being ridiculously talented, Robert Glasper is hilarious and seems very personable. Casey Benjamin gave off this sassy rockstar vibe with his appearance as he got down on the saxophones, guitar keyboard, and his vocal distortion situation. Derrick Hodge tore it up on the bass--I really enjoyed how he was able to rock it on stage by himself. And my buddy, Chris Dave, THREW DOWN on the drums. Aaahh, it was amazingggggggggg. That's all I got.
