Stories this night were great! However there were only 10 story tellers, who had 5 minutes each, and yet the event lasted almost 3 hours... so there was way too much other stuff going on and it should have been tightened up. Had not expected the show to go until 10:30pm

As a longtime Moth Radio Hour listener on KUOW, I had a fun time at the show, but I doubt I would go again. The reading and commentary of the audience participation question ("When was the last time you jumped to a conclusion...") made it funnier and added an element to the live show. That said, since the best stories for airplay on the radio show are cherrypicked/Grand-Slam winners, in person, you hear all the ones that didn't make it. As a first time Moore Theatre go-er, here's my review of the venue itself: the seats were relatively comfortable (but tall people need to be on the aisle!): viewing on the main level towards the back was good (even for a short person); it's a lovely, historical theatre with EXTREME lack of bathrooms!!!!! RUN at the start of intermission or you may be on the line the entire break and still may miss the start of the show.

Storytelling is definitely a lost art. There's something primal about gathering together and sharing our stories. It used to be critical to the perpetuation of the tribe. It was how we passed on our history, our culture, our mythology. Now it touches something deep, at least in me. Pain shared is pain lessened. Joy shared is joy heightened. There is nothing more dramatic than real life. The moth delivers with a simple yet powerful presentation.

The Moth provided a great night of entertaining stories, everything I was expection from the story tellers. My only issue was that we were bumped from our front row seats to row 6 seats as were a few others. Don't get me wrong the seats were still good but not what I had selected or paid for and I'm a little upset about it.

I brought my 2 nephews to celebrate our birthdays, at 18 & 16 they were awed, entertained & haven't stop talking about the experience ! I have been hooked on the Moth Radio Hour for years but the live show was special and sharing the power of personal stories was great.

Wow! What a great event. Riveting! It was a great format for storytellers and so supportive of new ones. Can't wait to go again. I

5 story tellers. 4 were fantastic as was the emcee who was very funny. The final story by Molly Ringwald the "Featured" performer was so-so. She obviously was not a professional story teller and her story was like her movies, simple and sweet. So the lesson is go see the MOTH when it is in town but pay no attention to who the headliner is, they are there just for show. (It was interesting to see M.R. as an adult, she looked rather odd to me.)

Amazing! Who knew one person talking on stage could be so enthralling?

Five story tellers, a host, and guitar interludes. In a time when electronic transmissions, sound bites, and cute photos pose for communication, it is great to see that we can still value real personal communication. Every story was unique, could only be told that well by the storyteller, told not to be impressive but to leave a mark, to open the mind and the heart. A terrific way to spend the evening.

A lovely venue, Carolina Theatre is the best. Disappointed by Molly R's storytelling. The other storytellers were more engaged, more available to interact with audience, and shared stories that felt more genuine.

this was amazing, made me laugh out loud and cry some, too! Loved all the storytellers, and the 'emcee' as well, who had lots of little stories of her own. I was in 'Story-Heaven'!

The Moth was great - it was wonderful to hear the stories. The best were NC native John Lincoln, Al Letson, and Sala Udin. Although Molly Ringwald was the feature, her story was by far the weakest of the group. I laughed and cried - an enjoyable evening.

The storytellers were fantastic. The host was funny, but why did they have such long intervals between storytellers? The show needed up being about three hours long, and people were ready to book it outta there before they even announced the winner.

Amazing stories. Amazing event. Amazing night. Every speaker was an incredible story teller...I'm definitely going to another moth event. I give it 4 stars because the seating was not organized. Seats were not labeled...people took the seats when they became available. I reserved two seats for me and a friend and I ended up standing the whole night. Other than that, it was a great night :)

The stories were interesting but it was open seating (I thought tickets were assigned seats), so we ended up on wooden benches and couldn't see the performances. Get there early. Plus, the hour wait between open doors and the start of the show, and another 40 minutes or so of intermission was quite long. I would have preferred to sit on my sofa & hear the show at home, which is not what you'd want to take away from a live show.

The Moth showcased stories that were humorous, interesting, and human. The vulnerability and open honesty that the storytellers displayed showed great courage and was truly inspiring.

I attended The Moth with my girlfriend and we both had a great time. We would definitely recommend it to friends and are interested in attending the next Moth event held at Carolina Theatre. We had never been to a show of this sort and didn't know exactly what to expect. We walked away with a a newfound interest in the art of storytelling. Additionally, we talked about attending other shows hosted by NPR.

I am a fan of this program and was excited to see it live. All of the storytellers were good but the selection for the show bordered on too serious. I don't mind hearing inspiring stories that are emotional but I think they needed to have a little more variety for this show.

My friend and I had a great time. It's one of those unique events that feels organic and personal. For those who love storytelling, poetry or stand-up, I would definitely recommend. Regardless, go and try it at least once.

What a great way to get out of our suburban box and step inside someone else's life for a few minutes. The stories were captivating, diverse, honest, vulnerable....all the makings of a memorable night out!

I have seen a lot of shows at Royce Hall and must say I am surprised they would show something like this. Three of us were so bored at the amateurish performances that afterwards we checked with each other that we had closed our eyes and taken a nap. Needless to say, we left at intermission, as did several of the audience. It was as if they had not bothered to check what they were going to talk about. The first one warbled her way through it with about two funny things to say in ten minutes. The next guy rambled on and only had something interesting and got his point across in the last two minutes. And hoo boy!! the last guy ... I feel for him and his daughter that was killed, but this was not the time or place to air your feelings of forgiveness. Write an article, but don't talk forever in front of an audience who has come to be entertained.

Wonderful event and so nice to see the Moth live instead of just on the radio. The only thing that would've made the event better is if we had seats. Standing for 2 hours isn't great but I would still go back for another event. The stories and storytellers are fantastic!

Seating is always limited for Moth events so it's good to arrive as early as possible. The Grandslams are great because you know you're going to hear 10 story tellers at their best.

I have been a listener of The Moth podcast for years, and for me that says a lot about the quality of the show because my commitment to media often wavers. As a long time listener, I found the show to be wonderful in the sense that I was an audience member of a live performance that I had always and only ever heard. The event went quickly and was well organized. The Fitzgerald was also a wonderful theatre to have as the host. It's hard to review The Moth because of the nature of the show. One will never have the same experience going a different night. But I will say this: The storytellers are quality, the stories they share are incredibly personal and powerful, and (while I missed Dan Kennedy introducing everyone) the show was a wonderful experience as a long time listener.

I'm a big fan of The Moth podcast, but this show was really disappointing. I enjoyed the story of only 1 out of 5 story-tellers. The story-tellers seem more like performers than real people telling real stories. The stories as told were so edited that you felt like you were watching a dramatic reenactment of a true story rather than something that happened to the person on stage. Perhaps The Moth's version of the story-telling medium has gotten too mature. Or maybe I'm confusing the story slams with a show like this which was intentionally more orchestrated.
