It s very difficult to assemble stars of this caliber but they did it under auspices of Patty Griffin and Steve Earle. Joan Baez was the featured artist but everyone on stage was magnificent. And for a good cause. Help me out, one singer I did not get the name of. He wore a hat and had a deep voice and was extremely witty. Anyone know his name?

I listened to Joans music all thru College. Her music, was part of the tapestry of my youth. I have always enjoyed listening to her since then, along with other artists of that era, Her concert tonight. did not disappoint Her voice is still stellar, and her guitar playing superb! I had a wonderful evening out with good friends of 40 years, Making new memories and remembering the old. Thank you Joan. You are indeed a diamond without rust!!

Confirmed by last night's performance, Joan Baez is and will always be one of the few singers/songwriters who can make my heart feel "Forever Young". Her voice is still amazing and she delivered a memorable performance. I am thrilled she was in town and look forward to another one of her concerts.

Really enjoyed old songs and new ones.. Also loved the band. She still has an unique delivery of her music, the voice with an edge. We are in a time that needs her take on social justice. The younger generations need to hear her, glad she continues to tour. She had a quiet command of the stage, an authority that comes from experience. She also was enthused to be there, spontaneous.

An excellent concert. Very little political talk, so we were able to enjoy what we came for, good folk music. Band was also good and a good complement to her voice and arrangements. She's been at it 50 years and still has that wonderful voice. I've been to several of her concerts. All were fantastic, but this one may have been the best.

I hadn't seen Joan in concert for over 25 years and found that I loved seeing her and hearing some of her new songs just as much as I did in the 60's, 70.s and 80's. I bought her book and stayed up all night that night reading it. I learned so much about her and what motivated her through the years. The venue was great too. First time and will definitely go back. In fact we booked the dinner, hotel and concert package for Wanda on Sept. 19th. Looking forward to returning to Humphreys.

I bought tickets for Joan Baez for my mom as a Mother's Day present. As a special treat we got dinner show tickets. The food was amazing and we were happy to have time to walk along the bay. We were in the seats closest to the bay in the 5th row. No need for binoculars here! Joan came out on stage at 8:00 sharp and played until 9:50 without ever stopping. Her voice is just as pure and beautiful as I remembered from all of my mom's old vinyl albums. As usual some of the rudeness of the people in the audience surprised me...talking on cell phones and getting up out of their seats in the middle of a song. I guess I just wasn't raised that way. Joan was superb!

I love Joan's voice and songs, but 3 things made this concert one I could have skipped. First, she sang almost none of the old songs I had grown to know and love. Second, the sound man did a poor job with her voice and it was often covered over by the instruments so the words could often not be heard or understood. Third, Humpreys cramps the narrow folding chairs up against one another so tightly without even an inch in between so you are both touching both of your neighbors as well as having your seat in motion every time either adjacent person moves or starts rockin g or tapping their feet to the music. Very distracting.

Have more dinner seats since this year we had to go to dinner at the Blue Wave, it was good but I rather eat on site. Joan voice has not changed at all, it is amazing how she continues to sing so beautifullllll!!!!!! Beautiful venue Joan Baez is still in great voice at the age of 68. The sound system left a bit to be desired. Her mike should have been turned up and the band's turned down. Could not hear her on the softer lower notes. It wasn't just us. People were talking about it on the way out. When Joan sang with just her guitar, she sounded surperb. I wouldn't have minded the whole show with just her and her guitar. I order her new CD because ths songs she sang from it sounded great, but the best was when she sang the ones we know, the ones we recognize. "Forever Young" is one of my favorites and she sounded 20 years old singing it. Her token imitiation of Bob Dylan was a crowd pleaser. This is the third time I have seen her perform: once in 1980, once in the early 90s and this one. I would see her again, as long as she performs. She has been coming to Humphreys for 30 years. She travels around a lot even overseas. If she comes near you, I recommend her with no reservations.

It was such a treat to see Joan in person for the first time. She has aged beautifully with an elegant patina, but has not lost her youthful sense of playfulness. Her voice was as beautiful as always. It was a nice combination of her classics and songs of her new CD. Her beck up musicians complimented her well, with a low keyed combination of varius stringed instruments and a very soft percussion. I would love to see this concert again.

It was a wonderful evening. I don't have to be reminded of all Joan Baez stood for and how wonderful to see she has not sold out! At this time in our country we should all remember what was important to us when we were young....it was living simply and enjoying life (without massive material things) Joan's music brought back memores but being in that venue with so many people who understand what she stands for....I was very proud to be a liberal American! I was especially moved by her tribute to the Iranian people.....quietly protesting being wronged by their government. How many of us remember that? I wished I could have thanked her for her music and commitment to true freedom in our country. It has nothing to do with wearing a lapel pin!

The outdoor concert 7/10 at Humphreys was very good. I have been following Joan for years, her voice has changed, but just as rich and emotional as ever. The only flaw was that the sound mix was off a few times, too loud on the instruments, especially the violin, and Joan was blasted out by the sound. Too bad, as it was an excellent group of musicians.

Another excellent show by Joan. Off the cuff, with a few songs picked as she went, or just for this evening. As with all her tours, music is refreshed, rearranged, and comes off sounding new even if you've heard the song a thousand times before. What I especially liked on this tour was the all-acoustic backing, complete with base-fiddle. All of the backing musicians were top notch and some extended instrumental runs really enhanced the music. We thoroughly enjoyed the arrangements. Joan was great, and bantered with her usual great sense of humor with the respectful audience. Highly recommend the show if you like great musicianship. Pay tribute to one of the icons of bringing equal rights and the need for freedom for all peoples around the world. This is probably the 10th or so time I have seen Joan perform. Another "Diamond" performance!

At almost 70 years old, you might think Joan Baez's voice would show signs of age or fragility. Or that she might cut her show short. Instead, the folk crooner filled the bayside air at Humphrey's Concert by the Bay and came back with an encore, playing two songs and topping her concert at almost two hours. She appears with an incredible band and plays a variety of old and new tunes--many by the remarkable Steve Earle. In keeping with her usual nod to the global political events, she dedicated two songs to the Iranian people, pumping her fist and reminding all of us to remember our struggling brethren worldwide.

First backed by her band than in solo performance, with songs new and old, plus running commentary nostalgic and contemporary, Joan Baez held 1,400 of us is awe last night for two hours at Humphrey's Concerts By The Bay. Especially moving: her tribute to Iranian patriotic protesters, God is God, Long Black Veil, Don't Look Back, and The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down. Wonderful venue -- our first time -- and an admiring crowd, mainly of our generation (born in the 1940s, came of age in the 1960s).

4 voices are better titled the Unharmonious 4. Worst harmonizing by 4 voices ever. Perhaps if they had practiced singing the songs together the disjointed singing would have blended a little bit. The bigger Indigo person admitted with a nonchalant attitude during the concert that she could not play 3 cords on her musical instrument and never could. Apparently she feels that her other talents were so good that she could admit this without any concern, but that was not the case. Anemic presentation with little showmanship. Low volume and low energy. I ve seen well over 200 live musical acts over the last 40+ years, and I cannot remember a lesser concert. Mary Chapin Carpenter was little used, the show featured Joan Baez the most, and their best songs were opening with a Bob Dylan s Don t Think Twice It s Alright and closing with Dylan s The Times They Are a Changin . Judging from Joan s presentation of her first song written in 25 years, they just don t get it.

What a lineup: Joan, MCC, the Indigo Girls. I went with great anticipation, expecting a wonderful night of music. And it was wonderful, except... While I appreciate her generosity in sharing the stage, I would rather have heard more from Baez by herself. Also, even though I, too, lament the current political climate, I wanted to be entertained. At times, it felt more like a funeral. OK, I exaggerate, but let's leave politics for a bit, shall we, and play some upbeat songs? This was only the second show of the tour; maybe these ladies will work out of their funk and liven up the show a bit.

This was an amazing concert, and would have been one of the best of the year. It would have been amazing had the Indigo Girls and Joan Baez not used the stage and our concert time to express their pathetic political views. Whether they are your politics or not, musicians are paid to perform their music, not their political views. Too many actors and musicians are using our time to express their political views. It's over now, let it go. What would have been a five star event was lessened with the constant comments. Mary Chapin was outstanding and it would have been a much better concert just seeing her. I like Baez and the Indigo's music, but will probably never go and see them again, but cannot wait for Mary Chapin to go on the road again with her band. Hopefully they won't influence her to be political in her future shows. Many people were disgusted with the political comments and voiced their opinions about how these things ruined their evening that was expected to be an awesome evening of one great collaboration of music. I totally agree with a couple of people. By expressing their political views it lessened the quality of Baez and Indigo Girls performance.

I was, first of all, very happy to see Mary Chapin Carpenter singing again - it has been a while since I've heard her trademark vocals and lyrics! So nice she could open for her long time friend and cohort Joan Baez. I was also tickled to see Dirk Powell up there on stage accompanying Joan. He has taken over the folk scene with gusto, did a great job supporting our sweetheart. I hosted Dirk and Riley Bogus a few years ago in my house concert series, so this was extra special for me to see him again. Joan gave us way more than we ever thought we would get at this stage in the game. Her voice is still strong and her performance all around was delightful. Her sense of humor was refreshing as well. Sharing the stage with Mary was a treat while they sang together. We were given three encores! Joan was generous, played guitar so well, sang from her heart, and she introduced her former tour/stage assistant who sang with Joan for half the night! What an opportunity for GRACE STUMBERG to be Joan's backup singer! Hearing Joan sing old favorites by John Lennon and Bob Dylan was a treat, and audience sang together on them and others. Great show! [The sound would have been fine if sound people had correctly managed the levels. Too much bass in beginning of show made it difficult to hear Mary's voice clearly. Sound was better for Joan Baez. Dirk's bass was a bit over powering]

I first saw Joan Baez and the Indigo Girls on a tour together about 20 years ago. The Girls were at the height of their fame and Baez seemed less than thrilled to be "opening" for them. Flash forward to this week and it was totally different: the Indigo Girls played a terrific first set, accompanied by a good band (Shadow Boxers) from Atlanta and then Joan Baez took the stage with her percussionist and everything-else guy and WOW she was wonderful! She was also relaxed, happy, appreciative and seemed to genuinely enjoy touring with the Indigo Girls, which was a nice change from 20 years earlier. After her amazing set the headliners all played about a half dozen songs together - it brought tears to my eyes. I taught myself guitar as a kid to Baez, Dylan and similar artists' music. What a thrill it was to see my musical heroes from childhood and young adulthood together. They put on an absolutely fabulous show. I'm just sorry that it had to end! See them while you can!! 8)

Both were delightful and fun to watch. Joan was amazing, calming, yet still intense with her passion for what is right. I had listened to her for years (on eight track, way back when!) and yet the words of all the songs she chose sounded new and relevant for today's world. Classic Joanie- in a very intimate setting (a bit cold though!). Love that she told stories and was very personal. Her voice has changed some, as she seemed to be reaching for some high notes which were effortless before, but her spirit was unmistakeable and unchanged. I went home and watched (again) the dvd of three Newport Fold festivals from the early 60s where she introduces Bob Dylan as the voice of the youth. She really has not changed all that much in her demeanor nor in her style. Wonderful- a real gift! I keep pinching myself that I have now seen her. A little disappointed that there was so little to buy (no memorabilia)- only cds - which were great to see, but it does seem like a Joanie thing to avoid iconic items- idolitry, as she called it in the early sixties dvd.

She's witty, charming, ultra talented, and an awesome human being. Joan sings many songs which hold true to her politics. One which was written by Woodie Guthrie, holds special meaning today; "Deportee" (Plane wreck at Los Gatos Canyon)...she sings it with such meaning...we should all listen to what it really is saying! A wonderful evening under the stars, hosted by Villa Montalvo; a local treasure!

Joan Baez's concert in Baton Rouge was absolutely great! She started on-time and then sang and played the guitar for 1 hour and 45 minutes without a break! Her voice is clear and beautiful. She did not talk much, but was very personable and relaxed. She had a great rapport with an audience, which obviously adored her. There were a lot of fans there dating back to her earliest days, but there were also younger fans in the audience. The applause was warm and lengthy on each song and we gave her several standing ovations at the end of the evening. She goes mostly solo to the accompaniment of her own guitar, but she had 4 musicians to add to the sound on many numbers. She is beautiful and she looked wonderful onstage.

Joan put on a wonderful show--it was over too quickly! We left with smiles on our faces and her songs in our heads.

I expected a nostalgic re-run of Joan Baez standards. Instead we were treated to the old songs with new arrangements, presented with fresh energy and meaning by a Joan Baez who was not afraid to poke fun at everybody, including herself. The songs are as timeless as she is.

Lila Downs was used in order to attract the Hispanic demographic, and then she was made to sing songs outside of her genre. The other artists were pretty subdued and we had to put up with cursing F@#! bombs from the so-called master of ceremony Steve Earle. As far as the entertainment value it was a C at best with the artists sitting the whole time as if upset that they were forced to play for a bunch of disinterested audience members...which they convinced us to be. Finally Joan Baez was a disappointment with very little play time.

A very moving evening for such a dreadful problem in the world. Joan Baez, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Brandi Carlile, The Mastersons, Patty Griffin...plus more. I was very disappointed that Emmylou Harris & Buddy Miller did not play our night and I couldn't confirm it until that day (not that I would have changed my mind about going or purchasing tix) but I was really hoping to see them both. I bought the upgraded parking for under the Wiltern, with snacks in a preshow private room, and that was a great option I would definitely do again. I was so relieved to see seats assigned for this event because I cannot stand at Wiltern shows anymore. I've seen unfortunate pushing and shoving situations and it is scary! The only bummer is the seats are not raked so it was not easy to see the folks on stage, and they were setup in a big semicircle, hootenanny style. All the artists are so clearly passionate about helping refugees in the world...everyone was in great voice and very respectful of each other, really a pleasure to see, and Joan's version of 'Nasty Man' brought down the house. And, sweetly, they opened with Tom Petty's 'Refugee'. An uplifting evening of generous artistry.

To see Joan Baez for the first time was poignant, and of course the show was as well. 65 million refugees, this is catastrophic and the musicians and audience were doing all that we can to help. The rat race was outside, inside was peace, serenity and looking out for our fellow man. He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

Not only did I never think I would see all these folks on one stage, but I never thought I would hear Joan Baez sing backup for Lucinda Williams. This is a list of some of the best singer/songwriters in all of ever! If you have the chance, support this incredibly important cause and do yourself a favor. You may never get to see them like this again.

Didn't do my research so was taken back at how political the concert was. Actually, Joan always being a forerunner on activism, I should have known. Not a bad concert but really did not like the Nasty Man song putting President Trump down. I don't particularly like the man, but many things that he is acting on I do agree on. I think it's a shame that politics has bottomed out so badly --- that is on both political party sides. The song was divisive. There are proper ways of responding to things we disagree with. It seemed juvenile and beneath Joan's stature. We need a unity of heart. The song didn't help. Other than that, the women sang beautifully together and Joan will forever be an Amercan Icon. That is the name that most drew me to attend.

Concert was not what we expected. Very politically charged and offensive at times. We came mainly to hear Mary Chapin play, and she got very little play time and played none of her popular songs.

This concert was one of the epic concerts of my life. To see these four women together was incrediby moving to me. To be able to watch Joan Baez perform in person was a dream of mine. To hear her do Diamonds and Rust live was something I will never forget. I have long been a fan of the Indigo Girls. Seeing all of these talented, notable women perform together was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I'm SO glad I went for it! Their voices blended together very well and often times moved me to tears. They offered just the right balance of singing together and solo.

4 VOICES is an understatement...for not only do Amy, Emily, Chapin and Joan bring their voices for this show, but they bring a whole lot of talent, professionalism, humor and a healthy dose of inspiration! It's a two hour show in which the friends swap stories and share duties on each other's songs. The song selections were a nice sample from each artist's catalog, with many having political or social justice themes. The blending of their voices was nothing short of perfect harmony. In short, a show that fans old and new will want to revisit again and again....

My wife and I received tickets from our daughter and family for our birthdays. We were greatly looking forward to the concert. Instead of hearing the songs we enjoyed in the past we were treated to political rants and soap box commentary. We would have walked out, but we were too polite to walk through the people sitting on our row. It was a birthday to remember...remember to skip the event next time! We came for a concert and instead got a political ralley. Very disapointing!

Indigo Girls with special guest Mary Chapin Carpenter and oh Joan Baez will be there too, but don't blink. 2 hours and Joan sang 2 of her hits. the show consisted of mostly the Indigo Girls, then Mary Chapin and Joan chipped in with the occasional song. Very disappointed. I know Joan is 76 y.o. but then get Dylan, Buffy, Arlo to join in with 20+ minutes each.

Joan Baez is a national treasure. She remains as engaging and wonderful as ever, even though at age 76, the high notes are muted. I had never seen the Indigo Girls live before and I was enthralled by their performance and musicianship. A delightful concert!

From the moment Joan stepped on to the stage to her last 4th and final curtain call she is a class act. Her purposeful and gentle approach to public awareness always abound her performances. She is a pure soul as is her singing...Your last curtain call the audience still wanted more. In your own inimitable style you put your two hands together placed, them by your head and bent over...we got the message!! We love you..keep on keepin on...

Joan is proof that time doesn't pass and we don't get old. She's still beautiful; her voice hasn't lost much in over 50 years, and her political commitment rings true as ever. Her generosity toward her audience (three encores!) is as clear as it is to her causes. I know she'll never see these reviews, but I hope somehow she "gets" how very much her performances still mean to those of us who made it through the 60s (and through OUR 60s) on her music and her message. Brava, Baez!

With a voice quality that recognizes its maturity and reflects its youth, the choice of songs and quality of this performance was superiour to a NYC show at the Beacon a few years ago. I would like to have seen more political perspectives but in more conservative NJ than NY, it is no wonder. Choice of songs was a fine mix of past and present. Joan's performance was delivered with humour and fluid ease of presentation. I enjoyed her as much this year as I did when discovering her at the Newport Folk Featival in 1961! Thanks, Joan, for more excellent and memorable moments with you.

Joan Baez has only grown deeper, more beautiful and compelling as a singer, a performer and musician. And this is because she is a deeply authentic person, caring, funny, self-accepting, and wise. Her music spanned from vintage Joan to Woody Guthrie to Beatles, including a generous tribute to Bob Dylan. The venue is bare bones, basic. No chandeliers or carpeting but a great sound system and reasonably comfortable.

How, in this increasingly cynical and combative world, does Joan Baez continue to stay true to the utopian visions of my generation? Her voice, of course, is no longer the angelic soprano of yore, but it is still strong, flexible, and lovely. She opened her show with an old Bob Dylan tune, and then went on to sing a moving and timely song Woody Guthrie taught her about the deaths of unnamed "deportees," and a song she had learned from a prison inmate when she was jailed for protesting the Vietnam war. She spoke out about Native Americans protests of the pipeline and her support of The Innocence Project. And kept on singing. An encore included Lennon's "Imagine." May she stay "forever young."
