Najee NEVER disappoints! I ve been a fan since 1986 and it was so good to see him do what he does best! He performed music from his first album Najee s Theme to his new CD Poetry in Motion and classic songs in between. Worth every penny and he signed autographs and took pics with fans afterwards. He even resigned the letter he sent me in response to my fan mail letter I sent to him 30 years ago. A class act and a very kind and humble soul! Can t wait to see him again!

Only because it is Najee, I would recommend his concerts. However, even as amped up as you may get for the overall event itself, Najee really didn't play that much during his own concert. A woman sitting next to me actually pointed it out during the first 15 minutes of the concert. As an observation, I began to watch a little more intently, all the while, still enjoying the concert. Afterward, I did notice it as she had called it. The concert went on, but between the solos of the band members, the introduction of a "rapper/jazz" piece and his coming on several minutes into the show, his time of actual playing was limited. The audience does get "jazzed" up by his coming down the steps to start off, and the fact that he doesn't hurry to the stage gave the show some nice entertainer/audience intimacy. Overall a B+.

I love chene park and Najee the setting was beautiful especially with the backdrop of the boats in the background on the water, I just have one complaint not even a complaint, but the sound system is off somewhat you can actually hear it better from the outside of the venue. The instrumental sounds are excellent, however, when there is singing it does not come across well. Overall I would strongly recommend all my friends to attend all musical events at Chene Park. The atmosphere is wonderful.

Najee, is not only throwing down smooth jazz , but he has learn to infuse a little rock and old school rap to keep his show hot. Najee, is at the top of his game when he lets his audience know that he can also play classical music if he so desired.

the opening act, pieces off a dream where excellent!!! they could have easy been the MAIN act!!! their stage present and sounds were awesome. i will be attending their next performance. najee was superior as always. my husband and i really did get our money,s worth of TOP entermainment. we had not attend a jazz concert at chene park for at least eight years, THIS WAS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT (ONE OF MANY0) FROM MY HUSBAND!!! i am married to the world's greatest husband......
Phenomenal event! Concert Saturday night was absolutely everything jazz! Performances kept the crowd engaged and final feature, Najee was a blow out! Brunch was very nice-inviting set up and the lines moved quickly. Ambiance was, again, phenomenal and classy. Both events started and ended on time which is a huge plus! We will be back next year!
I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. I like the intimate feeling at the Birchmere. The music was great. Each member of the band exuded professionalism and was a great entertainer. I was able to speak to a few of them after the show; they had nice personalities. All around - a great evening.

What a terrific disappointment this concert was! We've seen Najee in concert before and loved it. But this time, the drums were SO loud we weren't able to hear ANYthing else! We were in the uppermost section of the concert hall and our seats literally vibrated the entire time. It was nothing but noise. We could tell the guitarists and keyboards were playing, but could barely hear them over the boom, boom, boom.
It was a Great Winter Jazz Fest. Ticket prices were reasonable. We attended the Winter Jazz Fest on last year, as well, and look forward to next year's scheduled event.
Day 2 of the Cola Winter Jazz Fest was awesome. The opening acts of Dante Lewis & Terence Young, who each were fantastic, the awesome guitar work of Norman Brown (who REALLY knows how to work the audience), and to the smooth sounds of Najee, it was a great experience. I will definitely be coming back next year and hope to stay for the weekend.
As always, Najee was excellent. However, the sound engineer kept all instruments blaringly loud, instead of highlighting Najee. The unfortunate result was that the other instruments drowned out Najee on flute and sax. Was this a fluke? Or is the Birchmere always like this? Other venues do a much better job balancing the sound.
It wasn't really like a "show". It was a "down to earth" concert where Najee and his very talented band played a very wide variety of songs. Najee's communication with the crowd is more like general conversation than a "show". I appreciated that. And he was in no hurry to stop. Najee came outside and thanked folks for a sold out show, before the concert. Definitely appreciate how he's mentoring young musicians. I look forward to seeing him again
He did not disappoint! The band was outstanding and very engaging. Najee was very personable. The entire show as exciting. Definitely put Najee on your list to see & repeat.
We've been listening to Najee for nearly 30 years - still as enjoyable as ever. The Ritz is a perfect sized, intimate venue for jazz or any type of music.
He will always have longevity! Talented and gifted beyond measure. He played his heart out for us, and his band, simply awesome! Truly a wonderful night for the devoted live music lover. He has earned his position as "Najee" one of Jazz greatest.
His interactions with the audience were a true winner! And I love how he and the venue showed tremendous respect for everyone's time by starting promptly at 8! Great job Najee and Ritz Theater Jax!

This was an excellent concert! I have never seen Najee in concert but will go again if he's in the area. I enjoy a good jazz set and he gave us that and more. To top it all he is a gentle spirit and as nice as he wants to be. I was really surprised to see how nice he is to his fans and audience. Just to highlight, he has this crazy guitar player name Chuck.."good crazy". He is very entertaining. if you get the opportunity to witness this you'd love it. Kept me laughing every time he was given spotlight. What makes it even more humorous is, dude doesn't know how coo-coo he presents. He has a great voice though!! It was my first time at the Birchmere. Najee was great, the venue was below average in my opinion. You had everything that you could ever want from a live event. Lots of his own songs a couple covers. Several guests. Lots of Road Stories. Those are the reasons I love live events. The venue is "historic" my guess is that's the only reason it's still around. It felt a lot like a school cafeteria complete with those long brown tables. Make sure you use the bathroom first, because once you're seated you're pretty much not getting up without a pole vault.

It's very difficult to rate this show because, while Najee was the headliner, it was Euge Groove and his band (including Brian Simpson and Bobby Caldwell having amazing solo performances), who stole the show. The young local teenage high school jazz band (I so wish I could remember the band's name, because they really deserve lots of recognition.) that opened, was outstanding!!! Had the MC not said their ages and had my eyes been closed, I would have thought I was listening to a well seasoned mature old school jazz funk band. They were !!!GREAT!!!---that's without having to give extra points, because they are so young. I'm sure they have a very bright future in music---no doubt!!! Euge Groove had everyone on their feet, from the moment they stepped on stage, until the time they left the stage, with folk still begging for more!!! They brought the house down!!!! For the most part, Najee was boring. During his performance, most of the crowd just started packing up their belongings and walking out. It wasn't until the end of his show, when he seemed to step it up a little. He even came into the audience playing his sax, which was pretty cool and groovy, but a little too late... Most of the audience had given up and left and I could understand why. My husband and were still there, thinking he may just make an onstage comeback. When he was done, we were surprised, because we were still waiting for that comeback that never came. After all, we love listening to his CDs. But, CDs don't make a live audience entertainer. This was our first time seeing Najee perform live. But, considering all, we won't go to see him, again. On the other hand, Euge Groove...yes, absolutely we will, anytime!!! He and his group could have been and should have been the headliner. They deserve 5 stars. The teens even deserve 5 stars. However, I would give Najee's performance only 3 stars. But, since this review requires an overall rating, I've rated this show 4 stars.

I was very excited when my dad told me that Najee was coming in concert. Plus Euge Groove, Brian Simpson, & Bobby Caldwell. Like my dad said, it was like the perfect storm! Although I really enjoyed the concert, I was a little disappointed. The opening act was very good but I felt they played too long. Then Euge Groove and Brian Simpson tore it up! They were awesome!!! I thought Bobby Caldwell would sing a little longer but he only sang a few songs and he was done. Then when Najee came out, he only performed for a short time and he played a few songs by Anita Baker & Stevie Wonder. No offense but I went to see Najee perform his songs not someone else's. Plus the sound was not working correctly which was no fault of Najee's but it didn't help things. His guitarist was awesome and very entertaining but again, I went to see/hear Najee, not his guitarist. I felt that the concert was really a Euge Groove/Brian Simpson concert not Najee and guests.

"Smooth Summer Nights" made me think it was going to be an evening of smooth, mellow jazz making for a very laid back evening. It was far from it but was still a good evening. All 4 performers, Najee, Bobby Caldwell, Brian Simpson, Euge Groove were very good so I cannot say I had a favorite. Their music really made you want to get up and move along. The venue was great. We had lawn seats which had a clear view since it was a sloping area and the sound system was loud and clear. When a storm came up those of us on the lawn were immediately sent to sit on stairs or stand in the back of the covered area so the show went on!. One confusing thing was our tickets for the lawn had notations for the row and seats when there none on the lawn.

The overall program was great. While I'm not one to want people to get wet, the people on the lawn bought tickets like we did, with the understanding that the event went on rain or shine. I don't know but I feel certain that the lawn folks didn't pay what I paid for tickets. My point is, that while one of the performers told them to come inside the pavilion, these folks then took seats in the stands not on the steps as was suggested and the ladies that sat behind us in unfilled seats proceeded to make the rest of the concert unbearable for us. So much so, that we left early and didn't get to enjoy Najee, the last act. I find this completely unacceptable and though this is our first unpleasant visit of many to Mablehouse, I have related our experience to some our Jazz loving friends.

To say that everyone was awesome would be an understatement! Najee, Bobby Caldwell, Euge Groove, and Brian Simpson were amazing showmen and I loved the venue. Can't wait for the next show!!

The young group that opened the show, Anonymous, was fantastic. Euge Groove delivered, love him! It was my first time hearing Brian Simpson live and he is now a new fav! Bobby Caldwell brought back memories. Najee mellowed me out, nice end. I was pleased with the venue, loved the covered seating. I'll be back!

First visit to this venue and could not have been happier! The young gentlemen from "Anonymous" are amazingly good for their ages. Absolutely enjoyed most of the show. Najee seemed out of it and not committed to entertaining the crowd, but other acts were fabulous!

Wow, amazing show! I enjoyed every minute from the opening act, Anonymous Da Band, to Bobby Caldwell, Brian Simpson, Huge Groove, and Najee. This is an easy venue to navigate with free parking!

Najee, Brian Simpson, Bobby Caldwell, Euge Groove and the opening act - Anonymous Da Band were incredible. There wasn't a moment I wasn't dancing in my chair or up on my feet. I was really impressed that the venue allowed a young jazz group (the oldest being 18 years old!) to open for these big names. The young men are extremely talented and I look forward to seeing them take the stage again. My only disappointment - the venue has a strict - "shut it down policy". So, Najee's set wasn't as long as I would have liked but what he did do - I was blown away by.

It was great. The young men who preformed before the stars were the real stars of the show.
