Snow Patrol

In 2005, Glasgow-based Snow Patrol toured with U2, appeared at Live 8 at both Hyde Park and Scotland and somehow still found time to write and record a new album. Their May 2006 release, Eyes Open, is the follow-up to their phenomenally successful Final Straw, and it has exceeded all expectations. The album went straight to #1 on the album charts in the UK and Ireland and the first singles "You're All I Have" and "Hands Open" are receiving massive airplay on both sides of the Atlantic. In this Ticketmaster exclusive interview, keyboard player Tom Simpson speaks about the band's early years, the new album and their current tour.

This is my 5th time seeing Snow Patrol (yes, I'm a devoted polar bear). I remember seeing them in Houston in 2005 when they had no special effects (lights, strobes, screens with images) and they rocked anyway. Seven years later they still are hot and their music relatable and diverse. They play a great show and a LONG show! They really enjoy what they do and love sharing it with their fans (they played about 2 hours). Plus, the guys are just easy on the eyes! And Gary is great at entertaining the crowd with his self-deprecating humor and outgoing ways. He is not afraid to go out of the box for a laugh and it works every time.

The show was amazing. Snow Patrol was magic! Loved the show. They had a great set, and were so charismatic, great sound. I loved Ed Sheeran, the opening act too! My only gripe was all the pot smoking that was allowed freely in the closed venue. Bringing my teenage daughter to that was awkward to say the least. The air was thick with it the entire time, the people obnoxious about it, and no one cared.

I saw SP two and a half years ago at the Fox and I thought they couldn't possibly top that show, the tour for A Hundred Million Suns. I was worried-I thought I'd be disappointed. I was not. The show was absolutely magical; I honestly felt moved listening to them. Great song choices, great lights, great stage personality. I will ALWAYS go see SP when they come to the Bay!

Despite the recurrent technical difficulties, the performance was outstanding. Loved all the music, and loved seeing the easy-going, funny personality of the band as they dealt with glitches and worked the crowd!! Also so happy the venue changed from the Myth to the State Theatre--what great place!

I was impressed. My past experiences with hundreds of concerts was strictly heavy metal venues (slayer, korn, etc). I didn't know how to just sit / stand and relax to a more calm entertaining show. It was entertaining! I have heard some of the music before on the radio, my girlfriend was very interested in going, so I decided to get tickets for me and 2 others. We all loved the show! The lead singer of Snow Patrol was pretty entertaining, he kept it live. Hope you enjoy the show if you bought tix in another city!

a few techinical difficulties in the beginning were a little frustrating but they have great humor about it and that made it alright--State Theatre was so much better as a venue than Myth-thank goodness it was changed--absolutely fantastic artists!!

This event was moved from the Myth to the State Theatre. Despite the many technical difficulties they had to overcome, Snow Patrol delivered! Or, maybe, "knocked it out of the park" is a better description ;-). The wit and genuinely humble attitude of Gary Lightbody, not to mention his passionately delivered vocals and the excellent, unfailingly precise musicianship of the band, all combined to make for an amazing concert experience. They keep it intimate by engaging the crowd (rather than ignoring them like some) and truly deliver a great musical performance. Thanks Snow Patrol! Come back to Minneapolis ASAP! We love you!

Snow Patrol is one of the only bands that sounds better live then on recording. Although there were a few hiccups along the way, with the guitar not working. They made it work by keeping the mood light, still playing songs that didn't require that particular instrument, and joking about with the crowd. They were overall one of the best performers in both entertainment and quality then i have ever seen.

Despite numerous issues with amps/sound, etc, Snow Patrol did an amazing show! They were extremely entertatining and funny and managed to improvise flawlessly when technical problems occurred. I will definitely see them again next time they are in the Twin Cities! Also, their opener, Plain White T's was fantastic - definitely buying their album!

Tech difficulty plagued the start of Snow Patrol's performance. This lead to Lightbody's flirting with the entire audience, and a few laughs. The early tech issues may have prevented them from giving the performance they had planned, but what they did create was art and an excellent experience. The ticket price was a "heck of a deal", getting more than your moneys' worth. Truly Outstanding! Do not miss Snow Patrol. If they aren't coming to you, go to them!

This show was moved to the State Theater, which was gorgeous; however, there were many technical difficulties with the band's guitars, and so Snow Patrol had a rough opening night to their tour. They ROCKED anyway though, and Gary (lead singer) kept the mood light and carefree with his charm and wit. Even though Snow Patrol probably left the stage stressed and upset about the guitar mess, the fans were in love and completely satisfied.

Despite the technical difficulties they experienced for the bulk of the show, it was an incredible performance. The lead singer's, Gary's, incredible wit really carried things along. Cities 97's Studio C show with him previous to the concert really helped to set the stage for the rest of the evening.

I love Snow Patrol and this was my first time seeing them live. Unfortunately there were a number of technical disruptions through out the performance that interrupted the flow of the concert. Kudos to the group for keeping it positive and continuing on. In the end the bug just wouldn't go away... A disappointing start to their tour for all present. Despite the glitches I would go see them again.

Originally scheduled for the Myth, (which closed temporarily) this concert was held in downtown Minneapolis at the historic State Theater. The Myth's general admission ticket-holders all had to be assigned to seats and many were automatically assigned to poor locations. The Plain White T's opened the show with a number of old and new songs, stiring the most reaction from the audience during "Hey There Delila" and "1,2,3,4." When they finished, the stage was switched over for Snow Patrol but they started 10 min late "due to technical problems." These problems would, in fact, affect the entire set list because of sound system and broken guitars problems for the entire show. Despite a very supportive audience, the band was extremely apologetic and felt bad about it. They had a rough first night of their tour but it was a good show, none the less.

After a 7 year absence from touring and a loyal and devoted fan base eagerly awaiting their reemergence, Gary and the band delivered. Fans travelled from all over the world for this particular show and their sheer delight at seeing the band once more was reflected in the smile on Gary's face. They were smart to weave in a few songs from their new album Wildness including Don't Give In and Life on Earth, but the audience was electrified when they opened with Open Your Eyes and closed with Just Say Yes. The all time classic Chasing Cars was greeted with a heartfelt sing along by the audience.... Can't wait for the full tour to be announced......

This review is late in coming, but not because of the quality of the show. I'm a semi-casual fan of Snow Patrol, mostly enjoying their radio hits and a few less well-known tracks. But I would recommend their live show to almost anyone who enjoys good synth-infused rock. They put on one of the best shows I saw in 2012, with a great mix of high energy songs you could dance to, and softer, melodic cuts. I knew a good number of the songs they played, but even the ones I didn't I felt like I was able to connect with easily. There were few, if any, "misses" as far as I'm concerned, which is rare even for a really solid band. Basically, they write damn good songs, and what you hear on the radio is at once very indicative of the quality of their music, but also just a portion of the range they have musically. I also really enjoyed the lead singer's stage presence. He clearly seemed to be enjoying himself, at times totally lost in the performance and so joyful in that. He had various interesting mannerisms, in particular a habit of "pushing" his hands to the crowd when an epic beat or rhythm change would happen, and I felt it actually added to the show overall. He was also quite funny and rather endearing in his stage banter. Last but not least, though I have had my complaints about the sound at The Fox Theater in the past, this time I lucked out as it was really good. Snow Patrol has some very complex and intricate instrumentation, and vocals are key, both of which are areas where the Fox's seemingly limited mid-range and muddy bass tend to hurt the overall experience. But somehow it was all good this time around. From where I was standing, against the railing on the 1st elevated section above the pit area in front of the stage, the view and sound were equally good. Overall I'd really recommend Snow Patrol live, certainly to fans, even casual ones, but also to anyone who is into this type of music or is just looking for a good show with really solid music throughout. I can't wait to see them again.

The San Jose Civic is a fabulous venue! Snow Patrol was energetic and engaging. Why are people NOT showing up to these concerts? There is truly not a bad seat in the house. I CHOSE the balcony because I'm just too darned old to deal with the hair flips in the face, stepped on toes, etc. that are inherent in general admission. The balcony was fantastic! My only (small) criticism was that the bass was up so loud that even Gary's pristine vocals were sometimes enveloped by reverb and thumping. I am normally someone who L-O-V-E-S the feel of bass in my chest, but when you barely hear the background vocals, the woofers and sub woofers might need to be toned down just a bit. Still, a MOST excellent evening and worth every penny!

They claimed it was their first time in San Jose and Snow Patrol drew a reasonable Sunday night crowd to the historic San Jose Civic Auditorium. This is continuation of their tour supporting their latest album Fallen Empires. I had siren them at the Fox Theatre in Oakland awhile back and while the setlist and backdrop were pretty much identical, the band seemed looser and very comfortable Sunday night. It is a high energy performance and it's hard not to move or dance to their music. Very enjoyable show!!

The venue was quaint but made for a perfect viewing of Snow Patrol with the Las Vegas Strip and the Cosmo's big screen as the backdrop. The sounds and vocals were amazing! Sometimes, you wonder if that band sings like that in real life as compared to their album. Well, Snow Patrol most definitely delivered. They sang all the songs I love. First, the show was moved from Clutch Cargo's to downtown Detroit - The Fillmore. A much better venue - but I would not have even known it moved if I did not read the paper as I was expecting to go to Downtown Pontiac - lucky catch. The show was wonderful. We sat in the balcony and it was a great view - without having to stand for 4 hours. The lighting and sound were excellent - some in part due to the Fillmore itself - but Snow Patrol has 8 members playing so much of the music is deep and full. Worth going next time in town.

Wow!! Snow Patrol put on an amazing show at this location. The sound was so good, they sounded just like their recordings. The opening acts were just as good too. They came on stage exactly at 9pm and played for 2 hrs including an awesome encore. They played just about all their greatest hits, and when I tell you they have a lot of them, but they don't get to much airtime that they deserve. The venue was great in my opinion. We were up on the second balcony right behind the video projectors which to me was the best location. It was the best view if you get there early. If you want to be up front near the stage you really have to arrive very very early. But if you don't want to feel like a can of sardines being pushed around, the balconies are the best places to get to very early in the night. Try to avoid the sides of the balconies because you can develop a serious strain in your neck after watching a show consistently turning your neck. I thought I might need earplugs but the sound was not overpowering at all. If you have some extra money it's worth getting some drinks or even water because with a packed house it can get very hot, so dress light. Overall a truly great experience and highly recommended to see a great band like Snow Patrol!!

I like these guys but it is my wife that really likes them. I had heard that their live performances can be spotty. Well, this performance was anything but. Gary's voice was soaring or low and sweet. He definitely had it going on! They were tight and having fun. Funny, I had read a review from another concert goer who said she was a bit disappointed with the length of the concert she was reviewing. And mentioned how the "old guys" (The Moody Blues) rocked harder and longer when she saw them a week later. We are going to see the Moody Blues in Providence R.I. Thursday night. So, I'll see if the old guys can do it as good as Snow Patrol did last week.

There is no explanative that can describe the performances at Terminal 5 on April 13th and 14th. Opening act, Ed Sheeran blew us away. Amazing rising star. Catch him before he's too big and playing stadiums. SNOW PATROL=BRILLIANT. Frontman Gary Lightbody was at the top of his game. Expressive, enthusiastic, working the crowd. Damn I love that man. Well worth standing for hours on end just to get front and center both nights. The whole band was on fire. Snow Patrol also has a bad ass light show and videos on a large backdrop screen. Amazing, though I could hardly take my eyes off Gary. If you're not familiar with Snow Patrol, get familiar. They are so much more than Run and Chasing Cars. Lightbody's lyrics are all just as amazing in every song they do. Take Back the City and Fallen Empires rocked. Their ballad New York sounded extra special in NYC. I heart Snow Patrol.

Terminal 5 on Manhattan's Upper West Side is a big venue. Aside from Madison Square Garden and the Beacon Theatre it has become the premier spot, in both scale and prestige, for established rock acts and those on the rise. The Naked and The Famous opened there last year and headlined last month. The Shins will be playing 3 nights there next month. For any fan of music (within the Tri State area), cutting edge or firmly established acts, the venue has become unavoidable. Often times an act can get lost in the room. And that is not to say the room cannot accommodate them. It might be the talent is not ready for the scale of the joint. It could be as simple as an engineer having an off night. You get it, right? It's a big place so you best bring it. Last night playing the last of a two night sold out stint at the aforementioned Term 5, Snow Patrol (Gary Lightbody vocals/guitar, Jonny Quinn/drums, Nathan Connolly/lead guitar, Paul Wilson/bass, Tom Simpson keyboards/samples, Johhny McDaid piano/guitar/vocals) did the incredible. They made the place feel smaller. They made it intimate. They made it easy to see how they fill arenas overseas. Snow Patrol, and in particular their leader/showman/master of ceremonies Gary Lightbody, are true professionals. If tightly constructed songs played with skillful precision is the bands task, they succeed. They tour is called "Fallen Empires," like their 2011 album of the same name. It, like their 5 previous studio releases, mixes soft and sweet with raucous and rock. Their single, "Called Out in the Dark" is an up tempo pop song with a disco hook. "This Isn't Everything You Are," one of last nights highlights, is a power ballad that hits all the right notes. It is the new records "Run" or "Chasing Cars," but with more maturity. Lightbody howls "There's Joy Not Far From Here/I Know There Is/This Isn't Everything You Are!!" The feeling of hope expressed with tact by a voice and presence worthy of a bigger stage. When Lightbody runs the stage and sings, with a voice every beat the equal of any male singer working today, you can't look away... let alone not hear his art. He makes it easy to overlook, rather ignore, missing entire lyrics as he did during "Crack the Shutters." After that stumble he mentioned the story of Mick Jagger replying to a reporter asking "How is it you never forget lyrics." Jagger's response went something like "Well I wrote them didn't it I?" Lightbody was humbled he dropped some words. After all he too wrote his songs (he kidded about how many fewer than Jagger for that matter.) His thick Irish accent and slim figure might explain his charms too. The women in attendance were surely smitten. Snow Patrol might have a smaller catalog than the Stones. But that catalog is strong. Quality far surpasses quantity. And for every notable track, "Shut Your Eyes" or "Take Back the City" for instance, the new material slid right in. Fallen Empires is not on Spotify yet so the album was somewhat foreign to me. But a sampling from last night has me itching to find and listen to it all. "In the End" was a triumphant piece of stroytelling that, like many of their songs, starts slow but delivers a powerful final punch. Funny hearing "In The End/There Is Nothing More Than Love is There?" sung over three screaming guitars. The lyrics are all soft and romantic. But somehow Lightbody paints it with a rock edge. With all the club/synth/techno acts that have flooded Term 5 recently it was refreshing to hear slow builds end with guitars rather than pounding doosh, doosh, doosh beats. "The Weight of Love" and the sentimental crowd favorite "New York" were both handled with care and craftsmanship. A real life rock and roll show on full display. Add in the effective use of lighting and visuals played on the enormous movie screen behind them and score one for the good guys. These guys are more than the soundtrack to McDreamy or McSteamy. Much, much more.

I've never been to a concert where the music sounds even better than on the album, but that is exactly what happened with Snow Patrol. The lights were awesome as well. I love how personable Gary Lightbody is and how he interacts with the crowd. Definitely an unforgettable experience.

Snow Patrol puts on a good show, and I think their sound is better live than on CD. Plain White T's were fun also.

This is the 3rd time I have seen Snow Patrol. They were tight and smooth. Gary sang all the great songs that make my heart swoon for his romantic sensibilities. My boyfriend and I play their latest CD over and over. The Palladium was a great intimate venue that really showcased the Snow Patrol's musical talents. If you have never seen them you are missing out on a great band, powerful music, beautiful lyrics and an unforgetable experience.

A cold wet evening show in Portland led to a electric and hot set by Snow Patrol. Gary Lightbody was on top of his game and led his band mates to a great show at '\\"one of his most favorite places in America" Sound was excellent and the opening act Plain White Tees was an excellent way to start the evening. Melodious and personable band that is on its way upward. But once Snow Patrol hit the stage, the audience was theirs. A great night of great music, anecdotes and fun all was over too soon.

These guys never disappoint! They rock out and in between songs, the lead singer tells the funniest stories and jokes. The whole venue was cracking up. They played a good mix of songs from their albums. They didn't just concentrate on their latest album, which I love. I hate it when a band comes out with a new album and that's all they play. The true fans want to hear the old and the new and Snow Patrol delivers just that.

I've enjoyed seeing a band grow from scratch like snow patrol. But it was even better to finally see them live. I am also glad that they decided to play in a smaller venue. Ticketmaster made it easy by just having the tickets ready for me and not having to wait for them in the mail.

I have been a Snow Patrol fan for about 5 years now and I think they are brilliant. The songs make so much sense and they sing about real issues (mainly relationships). Their performance was outstanding - sounded great and had great interaction with the crowd. I someone got down to the stage and they smiled at us and everything!! BRILLIANT BRILLIANT SHOW!! Will never forget it.

I've enjoyed Snow Patrol's music for a year or so and was excited they were coming to KC. They did not disappoint in the least. I'd go see them 100 more times. I honestly wish I had to money to follow them around Europe, which is where they'll be shortly. Amazing music. Amazing show. I cannot say enough good about them to even begin to do them justice.

Excellent show. Intimate venue and great sound. The set list was a nice buildup to a rocking run of songs and there was a lot of interaction with the audience and the band themselves seemed like they were having a fun night. I wish I had been on the floor upfront since the band really took the time to make the fans part of the experience. And we were a little far stage right so I missed some the whole stage experience. Overall, SP is always good for a great set and an amazing band!

A very humble band, Snow Patrol came out and put on their all. They really made sure to put on a performance that their fans would never forget. With playing all their hit songs as well as crowd interaction, they make you really feel as if you are the most important person to them....the fan. A great show, especially with having an opening act like Plain White T's, who put on an amazing show as well.

I am so enamored with these guys when they are on stage, especially Gary. He's got the best smile in the whole world and his witty banter with the audience is so fun! My boyrfriend isn't even jealous because he's got even got a man-crush on Gary! And yes, they do sound even better live than recorded (and I love their records). They never fail to bring the energy either. I was preparing myself for them to be a bit tired last night (San Jose Civic Auditorium) because it was their 3rd night in a row playing, but they were just as good, if not better, than when I saw them in Oakland earlier this year. Loved the duet with Lissie (Set the Fire to the Third Bar) too, she was great! I'm so in love these guys, they make me want to be Irish or to at least live there and pretend I am. I never miss them when they are in the Bay Area. I especially like that they choose smaller venues, because it makes the show so much more personal for me! Please come back soon guys!

While I am a big fan of some of their songs, the band really had no presence what so ever! They relied heavily on their overdone light and graphic show. Had they not, the show would have be SO BORING!!! Lots of drunk adults making up for the lack of entertainment!!!

Opening act Lissie was perfect for this concert. Her energy and vibe went so well with what you knew Snow Patrol would deliver. SP music was high energy and performed perfectly! Gary Lightbody's interaction with the crowd was fun as always - sense of humor and compassionate poet. Dark Roman Wine really showed it. Loved when Lissie joined the band for Garden Rules and Set the Fire to the Third Bar! Beautiful pairing of voices!

So I had never been to the arena at harrahs rincon, nor had I seen Snow Patrol! Both the venue and band were awesome! The acoustics were crystal clear, and you would have thought you were listening to a SP disc.they had a cool light and video show and played most of the songs I wanted to hear, although not possible to play EVERY one. There was not a bad seat/ standing area in that arena...I just wondered why more people did not show up?! I will definitely be going to harrahs for future concerts and WILL be going to see Snow Patrol should they head our way again!

Snow Patrol came out on stage with such lively energy. Gary (lead singer) engaged the audience so well, not to mention he's incredibly funny. The sound and vocals were INSANELY GOOD. They sounded even better LIVE as they do recorded. If that wasn't enough, they performed a long set that included many of there hits from ALL of their albums. I definitely would pay to see them again.

DO NOT miss Snow Patrol, if you are lucky enough to have them grace a venue near you! They are the most talented bunch of guys to hit a stage in..... forever! Their music is unforgettable, with Irish folksong undertones subtly running through their melodies. The vocals are pristine and perfect. I loved them the first time I heard them on the radio, and that love has grown in leaps and bounds. It seems they're touring all over the world, not just the states. So we have to share them with the planet! That makes it few and far between shows that I can actually attend when they finally make their way to California. But they did, and they rocked my world, and I can't wait for them to come back!
