As sublime as Chris Theile(sp) leading a raucous enthusiastic crowd in a quiet heartfelt silent night . A great mix of artists, genres, humor, and while the prairie is gone, a wonderful community feel remains. Happy holidays all!

The crew that travels with Mr. Keillor is the epitome of "surrounding himself with intelligent people" between the angelic voice of Heather Masse, the jaw harp and sfx of Fred Newman, piano playing, fiddle, guitar, drums, bass, it all combined for a poignant evening of stellar entertainment. Old favorites in stories, hymn sings, patriotic new songs, skits and that sound when you close your eyes of old school Prairie Home Companion. He walks into the audience in a sort of geriatric crowd surfing sort of way, and it's a wonderful connection with his fans. Heather Masse provides a firm hand on his arm so he doesn't kill himself stepping off the stage, as he nearly did in Lincoln, where we saw him. Wearing jeans, his signature red shoes and socks and an ironic, lengthy red tie, he proudly proclaims his Progressive Liberal Democrat status (thank GOD) As a lifelong Lutheran, I can say he completely captures the hilarious, serious, ironic ferocity of the languorous beast that is the faith of Luther.. If you have ever enjoyed PHC and the breathy, paused drawl of Garrison Keillor in your ears, you'll thoroughly enjoy this show.

Wonderful to see this radio legend for his last show after 40 years

If you go to see this at Riverbend in Cincinnati, don't get lawn seats. Sit under the pavillion because Garrison Keillor walked through the aisles singing and you couldn't see anything unless you were in there. Watching on the big screen on the lawn isn't the same. Also, the action wasn't as lively as I was expecting - probably because these guys perform for radio, not for watching audiences. Would see it again if had the chance, though.

I have seen Prairie Home Companion 3 times in Cincy. This was by far the best. Garrison walked among the audience making it feel very personal. He has really hit his prime and the outside venue worked better than an inside venue. The only remark I have that is critical is that the traditional Cincinnati is well known and it would be refreshing for him to talk about the newer aspects of Cincinnati. We have the Freedom Museum, The Banks plans, finally, and great celebration on the Ohio River every Labor Day hosted by a frog among others. Let's talk about something else besides pigs, chili and German heritage. It's been done, we do have new life Garrison. Will somebody please let him know?

I had seen PHP live before, but never paid for the VIP tickets until now. They were well worth it! Being close to the stage allowed us to see the interaction between the players--esp. the sound effects man (who is worth the price of admission alone!). It was interesting getting to see how changes made in rehearsal played out on stage during the show.

Great show in a great space. Weather was cool and clear- always a good combination for a show at Riverbend. Line up for the Prairie Home show was more what we wanted to hear- lots of radio stories and little bit less music. The poetry references in one sketch blew right passed us until my husband looked them up on the internet and determined it was a very funny bit. Enjoyed Garrison coming out into the audience to sing and interact. Can't wait until he comes back to Cincinnati again- maybe he would like it better here than in Minn....

Ever since it first came on the radio I've wanted to see a Prairie Home Companion live, but never had the time or the money to travel to Minnesosta. So I was thrilled when I learned that the show was coming to San Diego. It was everything I had hoped it would be! The show was well paced with a nice mix of comedy and more serious material and it was particularly moving to have the Navy band as part of the show and I loved Garrison Keillor's political comments - right on brother, you speak the truth, in that quiet Minnesota way that is!!

This had been the third time I had seen Priarie Home Companion. The first was in St. Paul in the early 1980s, then in Roanoke in the late 80s. Garrison still has it, and he is especially adept at including comments about the local venue. Got a lot of laughs out of the St. Augustine audience with remarks about alligators and the old vs. the new Florida. He introduced long retired Sen George McGovern, who was in the audience, as a WWII war hero, Great show. Not a single negative.

Prairie Home Companion show for NPR's Saturday night's show was better than anticipated. Sara Watkins and the Steele Sisters blended in and it was one big happy family. The comedy of the Minnesota State Fair had us and others LOL. More fried cheese kurds than you can shake a stick at... The sound effects are becoming a lost art and we have been able to see and hear them before they go by the way of the computer.. His high school marching band provided some lighter moments. Keillor is a legend in our minds...

I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of the three hour show. Mr. Keillor is a very fine story teller and is backed up by a highly talented band. Fred Newman rocks my socks with his sound effects and Sarah Watkins voice is beyond beautiful. Each and everyone one of them truly seems to enjoy what they are doing and that makes it all the better. The Summer of Love Concert is something you should see if not make sure you see a regular Prairie Home show. Best thing since sliced bread.

I took my girlfriend who is a dedicated listener and follower of public broadcasting in general, and definitely a loyal follower of Mr. Keillor and the Companion. A marvelous mixture of local flavor as well as showcasing the amazing talents of performers, musicians, and writers of the southeastern region. To be fair, I should not single out anyone in particular for their collective performances since they were all simply divine. Another item to scratch off the bucket list. I would follow this troupe around the country if I was certainly able.

Traveling to Minnesota in November is questionable at best, but I hadn't counted on the bonus of traveling back in time when I booked this ticket. Of course going to see the only live perfomance radio show left on air you expect it to be nostalgic. But toss in Nellie McKay doing songs from her new album - a tribute to Doris Day, and you get a truly memorable night. To be honest, I've been a fan of the show for 20 years, but was blown away by Ms. McKay on her debut album 5 years ago, and knew I had better catch this performance. Not only was she great (and a better singer than Doris Day) but guitar player Steve Wariner kicked the band up a notch. Garrison and his ensemble were up to their usual form, sharp, dry humor, impecable timing and a great band are what keep them on the air. Wished they'd done one of their skits where the sound guy gets a real workout. But all in all it was splendid!

The music, the humor, the bits and the stories - it all comes together in a sensational show that draws us in, makes us laugh and cheer, a somehow makes us feel like family. Garrison Keillor and the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band are just the tops, pro all the way! Great music from the Sam Bush Band and Sara Jarosz, politically correct cowboys, salsa dancing, left-handed underwear...how do they stitch it all together into a single, seamless show? And then to take it out on the street for more music , dancing and loon-calling contests along with a meatloaf dinner under the stars. Sensational! It just doesn't get any better. Go Midwest!

Although it's not the "Prairie Home Companion" it was from years ago it is nice. Chris Thiele on his mandolin is wonderful and his music along with the other musicians is quite a treat. I was happy to share Garrison's farewell show with so many of his fans. I could feel his sadness leaving the airways by the mood of going soon to the hereafter, which I hope for Garrison is not for a long while. His baritone voice was sharp and crisp, as was his monologue talking about his fable home town on the open prairie in Minnesota, Garrison had to turn away from the audience many times to contain his emotion in his last on stage performance. I grew up in the same Truman era, as he did, working in radio before NPR at Ohio University campus station, could I have done a last show as professional, no way, and congratulations to a great final performance Garrison.

Garrison Keillor chose to bring Prairie Home Companion to Milwaukee one last time under his care. He gave us Guy Noire, Rhubarb Pie, and of course the news from Lake Wobegon, along with music (including a pair of Milwaukee musicians) and commentary laced with Garrison's good humor. The two hour show (with an off-air introduction before and an encore after) went by all too quickly. Unfortunately, there will be no more of this unique offering.

Prairie Home Companion was great! The show was on time, very professional w/fabulous artists. Garrison started with going around the main aisles as usual & was slow enough to notice every audience member. He personalized the show to the area w/remarks of current events of our city. He even stayed after the show for those audience members that wanted an excellent encore. My recommendation is to get to the show early as possible because parking & settling in takes quite awhile-especially when going as a small group. Bring wide-brimmed hat & suntan lotion. A Prairie Home Companion is a venerable institution at something like 27 years running. Going to a show, you'll see why! The radio show is the perfect blend of down home dry wit, storytelling, melo-drama a-la the radio era, and world-class musical performances all with a ton of heart and soul. The July 13th show at the Hollywood Bowl was the last of their season and they didn't disappoint! Garrison Keillor was in true form as the MC, storyteller, riffer, and duet partner with the night's singers who included the fantastic NewGrass singer and fiddler Sara Watkins, opera star Ellie Dehn, and old-school R&B singers Jearlyn and Jevetta Steele. The hilarious scripted performances included the Royal Academy of Radio Actors, Tim Russell, Sue Scott, Fred Newman, and Erica Rhodes, and Martin Sheen.

A creative, fast-paced and fun-filled extravaganza. While it appeared to be like an improv performance, it was clear this was a tightly-scripted, well-performed 'play' -- a testimony to the fine peformers and production staff. Three broadcast icons (Garrison Keillor, PHC and, of course, The Ryman) all for the price of one. A real treat.

I have been a listener for years. Seldom heard a whole show. Wanted to catch this one that was nearby. The venue, the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater is beautiful and it was a perfect open air night. I wish I could have brought my entire extended family. I brought my wife who has had little exposure to the show. Just sitting in the theater was worth the visit. Then the show was excellent. I loved the radio show on stage feeling to it. I also liked that there were no other guest stars. This gave a real good look at the behind the scenes of the show and truly demonstrated their talent. Mr. Keillor seemed to be doing something that he would do for free and I know that he was enjoying himself.

This show made me laugh and cry. It was funny, fun, thought-provoking, nostalgic and moving. Garrison Keillor is America's greatest storyteller. The music was thrilling -- Sara Watkins, the Jayhawks, and the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band were in top form. Tim Russell is an amazing actor -- his voice is like butter -- it can be hard and cold, soft and warm, or hot and fluid. Whatever state it's in, it is a remarkable instrument. I loved the whole show, including intermission, when Garrison strolled around in the audience leading a sing-along of well-known songs. At the end of the show, Garrison led us in the Star-Spangled Banner, and at the phrase, "And the rocket's red glare," the fair fireworks began. What a spectacular ending to a memorable show. Thanks, APHC!

Excellent all around... Richard Dworsky and the band is magnificent, Garrison is cool, his players (voice and sound effects) are first-rate, and the St Olaf girls were excellent. Loved how the girls' role was worked into the show. It's especially such a thrill to witness a live radio network broadcast of a staged variety show, harkening back to the golden days of radio.

After years of listening to The Prairie Home Companion on the radio, it was fun to finally see it in person and be part of the actual live radio broadcast. The theater was sold out and the crowd was very enthusiastic. It was a great night out!

This event was very entertaining as it drew on some of the Prairie Home Companion music style and humor. Garrison is always fantastic telling stories that are very funny. Mr. Richard Dworsky was very competent and versatile on the piano. The entire band was very good. Fred Newman was fantastic providing sound effects. Heather Masse has a beautiful voice, backing up Garrison and performing duets with him. Would like to see her sing jazz style some day! An "intermission" got the audience singing along with Garrison, a nice break.

This ultimate story teller came onstage a few minutes before the show even started and lead us in several singalongs! That was the perfect opening to a perfect show of great laughs and uplifting music. We were pleasantly surprised that the show went on uninterrupted for three hours. I felt so comfortable and safe listening to his soothing voice all evening long. This was a highlight of my summer!

The show was everything I'd hoped for and then some. I have been a Keillor fan for as long as I can remember, and am so glad I didn't miss out on the chance to see him perform live. If you have a chance to see him on tour, GO. You won't be disappointed.

This show was unforgettable! Singalongs and funny stories by the master was worth the dollars spent and the time I invested to be there! I loved it! Originally my tickets were in the back being the "frugal" person I am but he invited all of us in the back to move to the front to fill the empty seats!!!!! I have NEVER experienced that EVER!!!! I ended up in the 4th row!!!! The songs provoked laughter and tears and it was a beautiful event!!!!

The energy Chris exudes is amazing! This show ran for 2+ hours with not more than a potty break and he was ON FIRE the whole time! I'm sure Garrison Keiller is a proud man having chosen Chris to carry on the legacy!

Chris Thile weaves a wonderful tapestry of mostly music, conversation, and a few of the voice actor comedy sketches. A wide variety of music was presented, as he played for and kibitzed with the audience and his guests, as well as recognizing his exceptional back-up musicians. Kacey Musgraves was fun, Ryan Adams good. La La Land composer Justin Hurwitz conversed with Chris, graced us on piano, and then accompanied Chris and singer Aoife O'Donovan as the 3 of them wowed us with an outstanding version of "City of Stars" (the movie did not do it justice, once you've heard it performed by real singers...sorry Ryan and Emma). Kevin Nealon of old SNL fame did a little stand-up routine, well received. Guitarist Julian Lage did a cool, bluesy solo number I have no idea what it was, but what a wow!

It was a true pleasure to see and hear Chris Thile as the new host of PHC. No Lake Wobegon stories (how could there be without Garrison?). But the energy, enthusiasm, and sheer flexible virtuosity of Chris, playing his own creations with and without a stellar backing band, joining in with the great line-up of guest artists, and riffing with the sound-effects story-telling crew was a delight.

What an absolute pleasure to live my longtime dream of attending a live broadcast of "A Prairie Home Companion" - just like the radio show, this collection of stories and performances was comedic, political, intelligent, warm, and inviting. I was worried that being in a large venue might make me feel disconnected, but Chris Thiele and the whole company could not have been more heartfelt and sincere, which made the time fly by and made the whole show completely enthralling. Everyone should attend such an event: wow!

I love Prarie Home Companion, and attend every year. It's a more musical show now, which is fine. The musical guests are always great, and I have discovered many "new to me" acts.

Over the years we have loved the great stories and music presented on the Prairie Home Companion and this performance was no exception. While we did miss Garrison and his stories about Lake Woebegon, Chris and the rest of the cast put on a fantastic show. We have followed Chris Thile since his early days with Nickel Creek and have always considered him a rock star on the mandolin. In true PHC fashion, his virtuosic skills were integrated beautifully with the other acts. Loved the guest appearance of the composer of La La Land.

I've been a fan of A Prairie Home Companion for years and every year when they come to LA on their annual tour I keep meaning to see the show but there ends up being a scheduling conflict. One year I even purchased tickets but had to forego the event. I was blessed this year to not only catch the show but also Garrison Keillor's final performance as host. The show was great as usual but rather uneventful other than a very neat and, somewhat, intimate encore. I say uneventful as Keillor did not do much to make a big deal of his final performance after over 40 years. I'm so glad I got to see the show.

We had seen Garrison Keillor and Prairie Home Companion at the Hollywood Bowl before. This was sad but fun. It was great to see the familiar folks perform and Keillor was mostly on target. I was a little disappointed with the news from Lake Wobegon, as I had hoped for more closure, but it was still fun. The audience was ready to appreciate the experience and that helped a lot to make it memorable. It just won't be the same. Sorry, new guy!

I didn't realize - when I first ordered the tickets in May - that this would be Garrison Keillor's last regular appearance of A Prairie Home Companion! There was a lot of down-home folk humor (and some a little "naughty") - great music, great comedy sketches, and - of course - The News From Lake Wobegon. The frosting on the cake - as it were - was the 20-minute sing-along encore at the end of the concert - as well as a sing-along in the middle of it. A fun, memorable evening for all!

Although I'm not a superfan of Prairie Home Companion, it's kept me entertained intermittently throughout the years. I simply couldn't miss Garrison Keillor's last show, though! I very much enjoyed it, but I was surprised at the low-key atmosphere and line-up. No guest stars, just one sorta sketch about the retirement; I really thought some Hollywood stars would pay tribute, given the venue. But if this is the way GK wanted to go out, then kudos.

The reason I can't recommend this event is because this was the last show for Garrison Keillor. It was a privilege to attend this bittersweet event with thousands of others who loved him and the show. I believe he was moved, even though he would never admit it. I was definitely moved at the sweet, sincere undertones of this last show. Always such a fine mix of humor, nostalgia and his love of God. My adult daughter, who accompanied me, had never heard of him or A Prairie Home Companion and she told me that she could understand why everyone loved Garrison and the show so much. I'm sure Chris will do a great job, but there is and will always be only one Garrison Keillor. We'll miss you.

I began listening to this radio broadcast when I lived in the Minneapolis area in the 1970s and have been a fan ever since. This was the second live show of Prairie that I saw at the Bowl (I also viewed a third performance rebroadcast in a movie theater). All that was missing (and that was minimal) was an episode of Guy Noir and his distance relative Ren-Oir. The duets with Garrison's female guests were great as was the encore he generously provided for the sell-out audience of his Southern CA fans. I will miss the show.

A great event! The venue is beautiful, the weather was perfect, acoustics were great, and I like the additional screens so those of us in the nosebleed section can still see what was going on. The only issue was with so many latecomers interrupting my experience, and the fact that people were not sitting in their seats caused a lot of disruption when people came in late looking for seats that were already taken. People tend to spill over into other people's seats instead of sitting right in front of their seat number.

It was my first time at the Hollywood Bowl. It was wonderful. Seeing PHC live does make a difference. It had been many years since I had. GK was a little subdued, a little morose at the end, but given the circumstances....... Bowl management needs to be stricter with late arrivals, and if they are allowed in, to tell them to SHUT UP. There's a show going on!! (Duh)
