The theater was beautiful. The opening act, Elephant Revival, was interesting and I have a new band to add to my playlists. I have been to several Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band shows, and as always the performance was wonderful. There is always a lot of joy and fun! I wish the encore had been longer, but I often do :)

A Josh Ritter show is always a good decision. This was the 6th live Josh Ritter show I've been to, but the first in NYC. Standing room was packed, but its best to be on your feet for them so you can rock out. They played plenty of songs from the new album, The Beast in Its Tracks, plus lots of older favorites. Their backdrop for this tour, the Evil Eye design, is beautiful. It lights up like stained glass! Josh had some stories from his life, and the usual amusing ad libs. It was fun being in a big city with more fans who know all the words!

My brother who has seen Josh Ritter many times said "Just wait. You'll see." This is what I saw: A great show by the most appreciative, happy, joyful guy I have ever seen performing (Ryan Adams, take a lesson). He had ardent, joyful fans responding to his every move. It was just the happiest show I've seen. The music was great, the sound could have been mixed a little better. (The bass and percussion seemed a bit too heavy from my seats). I wasn't too familiar with Josh before, I'm a big fan now. He seems barely able to contain himself. I loved it.

It was a fantastic night at the State Theater! Josh opened with Idaho and continued the night with a great mix of songs from The Golden Age of Radio, Hello Starling, The Animal Years, Historical Conquests and So Runs the World Away. I loved that Josh is still so enthusiastic about every song, and the band brings so much freshness and grandeur to each one. I just can't recommend seeing Josh enough- I loved it!

We went to the Josh Ritter show in Portland specifically to see the opening act, THE LOW ANTHEM. They are four AMAZINGLY talented musicians with stellar showmanship, genuine emotion and delivery, a blend of vocals and instruments that shift and morphs with each song, and they will knock you out if you ever hear them live!

Great show! Loved every minute. Mix of loud, soft. Lots of energy. Performers enjoying themselves with audience. Was glad I didn't sit near the bar section...noisy. Bass guitar turned up too high, but could still hear the amazing lyrics. Favorite moment was when the band froze into place for almost 2 minutes before picking up where they'd stopped....looked startling without getting all high-tech....great idea, whoever thought of it. I know I've seen a good show when I wonder if I could follow them to the next night's gig!

Fantastic theater, fantastic show. Came up to Portland from philly 2c Josh and Tha Royal City Band: had a great time, from Lobster, to a wonderful suite on Peaks Island overlooking Portland, than Harvest on the Harbor, only to be topped off with Josh and the band with a finale for Josh's birthday, seeing Josh was properly "dressed" for his birthday celebration.

For the entire time we walked into the beautifully renovated Portland State Theatre until we left far after eleven, I was blown away by Josh Ritter, his band, and openers The Low Anthem. SImply put, I've never seen an artist so excited to share his songs with the public, with Ritter frequently smiling ear to ear and jumping in pure exuberance. A pleasure to see, and I would recommend his concerts and this venue to anyone.

I love Josh Ritter and this was my first time seeing him (he's always sold out!). I knew it was a promo tour for the new album but I was really hoping to hear a nice mix of new and older songs. I've been to a couple album tour concerts where the band played every song off the new album and maybe 2 or 3 older songs and was disappointed. This was perfect- I think he played every new song but also played every single song I wanted to hear, probably almost half older songs and the audience was going crazy. He was really amazing live and the band was great, too. Very true to his sound and you could tell he was having a lot of fun. There are times listening to his songs when you can tell he's smiling while singing and seeing him live he totally was and it was pretty adorable. It actually started to feel almost cult-like towards the end with the stage lighting and people standing waving their arms and I was waiting for him to pass out pills and tell us to take them to go to a better place but that's one cult I wouldn't mind joining.

Though I think of it daily, I never remember just how talented Josh Ritter is until I have the immense pleasure of seeing him live once again. Over the decade I've been listening to and seeing this incredible musician, he has provided the soundtrack for so much of my life, and I feel that I'd be a different person without his music. Seeing him live is an honor. He is an energetic performer, and you only really understand him and his music when you see it played live.

I started listening to Josh Ritter in 2003 (Hello Starling) and although I have heard his work on the radio since then, I had no idea of his diverse range of music and song writing talent. He was energetic, enthusiastic, and engaged on stage, and the crowd was one of the most age diverse crowds I have seen at a live performance.

Since first and accidentally seeing Josh Ritter play at the old 400 Bar here in Minneapolis, when he was touring to support Hello Starling, I have not missed a show or a recording. I have not yet been disappointed. Challenged, yes. And sometimes it has taken me a bit to catch up to where he's gone, but the roads have never led to a dead end. This music is alive and it's contagious. The band is tight, and they are all great musicians. You will not believe their dynamic range. Don't sit on the fence. Buy that ticket and go see these guys play.

Josh always has this infectious energy at every show including this one. He almost never stops smiling, as if he can't believe that people would be nice enough to show up to his concert. It's as if he has this overwhelming energy inside him, and the only way to get it out is to give it to the audience. If you like his music, you will always get your money's worth.

House of Blues in Boston is an excellent venue for live music. Felice Brothers opened the show, and promptly stole it. Truth is, we were there to see them, not Josh Ritter. We gave JR a good effort, bought his latest record weeks before. It really comes down to musical taste. We love the Felice Brothers. They are easily one of the most talented bands around today. Josh Ritter and his band were, um\u2026simple.

I had a hard time getting into this show due to very distracting crowd noise. Apparently people will spend perfectly good money to attend a concert only to chat with their friends the entire time (and take photographs and video on their smartphones), much to the dismay of anyone who actually enjoys the communal experience of taking in a live performance of beautiful music in the company of strangers. Terminal 5's layout exacerbates this problem as the bar is right next to the main floor, with no separation in-between. It''s a shame because Josh Ritter put on an energetic and enthusiastic performance that was well worth hearing. I will say that having seen Josh Ritter perform a few times, there were few surprises. It would be nice to see him change up the acoustic songs he performs in the middle of the show, for example. That said, Ritter and his band delivered the goods, even if the audience didn't Hopefully, he'll play The Beacon Theater next time he's in town.

I was so blown away by the performance and energy SAturday night. Josh Ritter is adorable and enthusiastic and clearly loves to perform. The only draw back to the event was the venue and the many drunks who came to the venue to drink and talk and not to hear the amazing music being performed. I will never return to this venue for that reason. Oh and also they spilled a drink in the balcony and it 'rained' on us on the ground floor throughout the performance, pretty disgusting. But nothing could diminish my enjoyment of Josh and his talented friends. I wish I could hear them live every weekend.

i've seen josh ritter more times than i can count on two hands. he never disappoints, and this show was no exception. he always sounds great and radiates joy. the venue; however, is a nightmare. it was oversold, overcrowded and the crowd itself...well, let's just say the bros have discovered josh ritter and i'm not too happy about it. i don't want to sound like a pretentious super fan "i knew about him first", but if you go to a concert and don't know the songs, try listening to them instead of talking through the ones you don't know. you missed out on some pretty amazing lyrics while you were texting and laughing with your friends.

This is my fifth Josh Ritter show, including an intimate interview/performance at American University, his reading/performance at AWP, and Valentine's Day concerts in DC and VT. No matter the size, venue, or context, the shows are always full of energy and delight. Josh and the band radiate joy--they're doing what they love, and nothing ties you to a band better. Between the fantastic storytelling in his songs, the stellar talent on the stage, and that impossible-to-fake enjoyment and connection, you can't walk away from a Josh Ritter show without being a convert. The Royal City Band will blow you away (and make those of you capable of growing a 'stache aspire to new levels of greatness), and Josh will make you want to sit down and talk about mummies, the American heartland, love, loss, desire, crickets, curses, and the unmitigated joy of playing for the love of it.

From Club Passim to House of Blues, Josh keeps delivering! The show felt well rehearsed without feeling too rehearsed. Josh & the Royal City Band seemed to genuinely enjoy every minute of the performance, as did the audience. And perhaps most telling, the guy next to me (chatting and iPhone addicted at the beginning) was totally into the music at the end.

Josh Ritter and The Royal City band played an amazing set. A set filled with high energy, great songs and excellent musicianship. A great mix of new material, crowd favorites and unique gems from his 6 albums. The sound was good for the entire band and great on the acoustic pieces. This was a concern for me as I've been to multiple shows at The Fox in Oakland and all the prior shows had disappointing sound. Nice to see a show where they got it right. Kudos to Josh and his crew. Overall a uplifting and spiritual night of music.

Despite living in Nashville for ages I hadn't ever been to a show at the Ryman before. Bottom line is that this may be the best venue I've ever seen a show in. I bought the tickets to see Mandolin Orange. I have loved them since the first time I heard their music. They did not disappoint!! It is rare that live exceeds expectations developed from a recording. Not so Mandolin Orange. Two artists and acoustic performance with the same sweet harmonies and warmth I'd listened to ... If you have the opportunity to see this pair perform take it!! The headliner was Josh Ritter. Honestly, I had never heard of him before and was prepared to leave if he was lame after seeing Mandolin Orange. I wasn't sure about him after the first couple of songs. But my patience was rewarded as the rest of the show was phenomenal! I have another artist for my Spotify! The music was simple and incredibly synced between multiple players and provided the perfect framework for Ritter's lyrics ... I ended up as pleased with Ritter as I was with Mandolin Orange! Definitely see this artist!! Best show I've seen in ages!!

Both Mandolin Orange and Josh Ritter were amazing musicians and the acoustics were the best we've ever heard. The main floor has very poor visual appeal with pillars restricting line of sight. I had no idea there would be an opening act and what a treat it was! Nicki Bluhm should have been the headliner! What a voice! Josh Ritter was only so-so. The band was talented but his voice just wasn t good. He could use some backup singers. There was one song where the audience sang along and it sounded beautiful. We left after about 7 songs after giving him a chance to get better.

Josh Ritter is an incredible performer, and I really loved this concert. He played a mix of songs from his latest album (Sermon on the Rocks) along with several songs from his old records (Girl in the War, To the Dogs or Whoever, Right Moves, Idaho, The Curse, among others). The Royal City Band was also great, and it was fun to watch the bandmates interact with each other and with Josh. They've been playing together for over a decade (if I'm remembering correctly), and they seem to have an amazing rapport built up.

Wonderful show! Mr. Ritter brings such energy to his shows with great lyrics and music. He seems to truly appreciate the audience and we appreciate his lack of arrogance. Keep writing and keep playing!

Josh Ritter and band were excellent as always! First time I have heard Scott Hutchison and I was impressed as well. These boys know how to entertain and it's always worth it, even on a Tuesday night.

Josh and his band rocked the evening away--the energy and enthusiasm were unending and his ridiculous grin highly contagious. I loved every minute of the show! Can't wait for him to visit Minneapolis again!

I have never seen an artist who was so genuinely happy to be on stage rocking out with his bandmates. Okay, maybe one other time, but that was Josh too...No pretentions here, no "I'm so cool", simply pure joy in performing. Come back to town soon Mr. Ritter!

I couldn't believe how much fun we had! We traveled to NYC from Tennessee to see these performers. We saw Josh in Knoxville too, but the crowd here was much more energized. I couldn't believe that Josh Ritter was smiling THE ENTIRE TIME! He looked like he really was enjoying what he was doing, which came through in his music as well. It was also a bonus to see Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski open up with a bit, for Josh. Great night, great time!

As always, Josh Ritter and his band made me dance, cry, and laugh. I will never miss a Josh show, and will continue to encourage all family and friends with the capability to hear to listen to and come see Josh live. Truly, an unforgettable experience. That being said, I wasn't a fan of the venue. Terminal 5 seems like it would be alright for real rock shows, but for any show where you want to see the emotion on the musician's face and feel connected to his/her music, the party/bar scene and tall, long layout of Terminal 5 just isn't right. Overall, of course, I had a lovely night!

Josh Ritter lit up the stage in NYC once again. His music is fantastic, but seeing him live is a whole different experience. Rainn Wilson and John Krasinksi (from The Office) started off the show and introduced Josh. Throughout the show, Josh read out valentine wishes that the crowd submitted. Some were hilarious while others were very loving. One person even proposed through Josh. The entire show rocked. The only part of the show that I wish didn't happen was the opening act. He was AWFUL and BORING. Not only that, but when Josh asked him to come out and do a duet with him, he didn't bother showing up at first. When he finally came out, he was completely drunk and ruined the song.

Scott Hutchison was incredible. He is an amazing songwriter and proved to be an amazing musician with his live performance. His involvement with the audience really made the whole performance. (or when he came back on for a drunken, acoustic encore with Josh Ritter) Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski stopped by to introduce Josh Ritter. This was my first trip to New York City, and seeing two celebrities at this concert really made the whole experience surreal. I'll be honest and say that I had my doubts about Josh Ritter as I had not seen him in concert before. Don't get me wrong, I love his story-telling way of writing and his old-country folk sound, but I thought his musical pace might get a little boring after a while. With the help of the Royal City Band and the Risky Business Blues Band, I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. The flow of the set was perfect. His vocal performance, trust in his music and bandmates, banter, creative elements, forcing the audience to slow dance with strangers (with a cue to the lighting crew to fire up the disco ball), and overall excitement pushed this concert way up on my list of favorites.

I know the show would be amazing, but Josh Ritter blew my mind. The venue was perfect and the energy was beyond brilliant. Surprise visit from Rainn Wilson and John Krasinski helped too.

My first Ritter show, and I was impressed. His vocals a bit low in the mix on the full band numbers, but nice on his fingerpicked quiet stuff. His band is very ordinary, although Salvador Dali Marx on the bass was amusing. His songs are musically pretty ordinary too, but his best three or four are very poignant and clever in a good, not precious, way. I would like to see him do a solo accoustic show in a quieter setting.

I've Never Seen an entertainer who seemed more outwardly happy to be doing his job. Josh Ritter certainly seems to be aware that he is lucky to have such a great job and that he isn't taking it for granted. He was all smiles throughout the evening, and his wishes of thanks to the audience seemed genuine. That said, it was enjoyable to watch a performer who was clearly having fun onstage. his mood was contagious. He was friendly with the audience, singing quietly at times to promote singalongs. The songs were great and the playing was also. I could even hear Ritter's guitar (acoustic more than electric) throughout, which is sometimes unusual with other acts (the singers guitar is often turned down too low). Good show that was appreciated by a pleased crowd. I would recommend Josh Ritter to anyone who likes singer/songwriter type shows.
