On this tour Dennis DeYoung opens with the complete Grand Illusion album from start to finish. I got goose bumps as the first notes of The Grand Illusion starting playing. This also means that CSA is only four songs in! The last two songs on this album are kind of draggy, but it's worth to hear the whole work together! The second half of the show, Dennis was able to relax and talk more. He's totally hilarious and can still sing every note! And his band....holy cow, what amazing players. Due to them playing the whole Grand Illusion album, some songs don't make the cut. This night Desert Moon, Show Me The Way or Rockin the Paradise didn't get played. I did have the cheaper tickets, up in a booth at the top of the theater. Unfortunately I could not see most of the show because of the tables in front of us.

Dennis Deyoung's trio was amazing, better than I had expected. Dennis is a great song writer, singer, pianist, and overall performer. They jammed pretty well for performing "acousticly" Dennis is full of energy and funny quips. I was glad I got to see him at a venue as intimate as BB King's Blues Club NYC. If you like Styx, don't hesitate to see this show!

I was a little skeptical about just Dennis without the Styx members, but his voice is absolutely fantastic! Every song was just over the top. The entire crowd loved the show and you left with a wow that was great show feeling!

The 1st time we saw Styx in concert was apx. 30 years ago. The music was incredible and left a lasting memory. We looked forward to seeing Dennis Deyoug at BB Kings. He did not disappoint! Our only complaint is that we would have preferred to hear MORE of Dennis and less of the trio. Sorry. They were good but we were there for Dennis.

This was my first experience at B.B. Kings. I have seen both Dennis with and without Styx, and I have seen Styx both with and without Dennis. Styx is a much weaker band without Dennis. Dennis apologized many times for his lack of preparation, as he had been ill prior to the concert, but it humaized his performance and made it far more intimate as being at B.B. Kings was like having Dennis play in my livingroom. His voice was as always spot on and the supporting band members add a real flavor to the event. Overall an awesome performance that I was fortuante enough to share with my wife and 19 year old son, who is becoming a bigger Dennis fan than I am. Enough said.

The other guys may have the "Styx" name, but Dennis DeYoung has everything else. Case in point: 1) Dennis's voice sounds every bit as good as it did 40 years ago. Every song is performed in the original key. There are no step-downs, no concessions to age. 2) The Styx catalog is mostly Dennis's compositions. The band had 8 Top 10 singles, 7 of which were written by Dennis. 3) August Zadra is the other lead vocalist. He sings the songs that Tommy Shaw sang in Styx: "Renegade," "Fooling Yourself," "Blue Collar Man" and "Too Much Time On My Hands" all sound as good as the original Styx recordings and far and away better than the live efforts of current "Styx." August also plays co-lead guitar and the 12-string electric on "Suite Madame Blue." He's just a force to be reckoned with onstage. 4) August has to play hard, because his bandmate Jimmy Leahy is a monster guitarist also, handling both acoustic and electric duties and background vocals. This guy can flat-out tear up a guitar. 5) Keyboard player John Blasucci handles a lot of the work that Dennis did in Styx, so that Dennis can move around and be the focal point. John is a wonderful player and nails the DeYoung flourishes to the letter. The chemistry of this band feels like 1981 all over again. The show is amazing, the quality of the sound at the Florida Theater superb. Go see this show and don't bother with "Styx."

Dennis DeYoung still has the singing chops to rock out with the best of them. His voice is still clear and he can still hit the notes. His rock band was excellent, and the accompanying symphony orchestra added a lot to the songs. One of his guitarists, August, did justice to the songs that Tommy Shaw performed with Styx. All in all it was a wonderful night.

Dennis Deyoung's voice was right on target. The band he put together does a great job of delivering Styx's music. They kind of even resemble the original band. He's a showman like that, so some parts of the show, such as comments, were delivered as if he's said them a thousand times. It was ok b/c it was the first time I had heard them. He's 67 years (De)young .. I know that's a bad joke, but he voice really held up and exceeded my expectations.

Dennis was engaging, made us laugh, and acknowledged that these are tough economic times and genuinely appreciated us buying tickets for his show. I would see Dennis DeYoung again in a heart beat!

The concert was outstandingly awesome! Dennis has the voice of an angel and his band sounded flawless. He has assembled a great group of talented musicians with Tom Sharpe on drums, August Zadra on lead guitar and vocals, Jimmy Leahey on lead guitar and vocals, John Blasucci on keyboard, Craig Carter on bass and vocals and Suzanne DeYoung singing backup vocals. I especially thought August Zadra was amazing on guitar and as lead vocal on some songs. The concert was a fast 2 hours. Dennis is a wonderful entertainer with his singing, keyboard playing, stage presence and some story-telling here and there. I would see him and his band again in a heartbeat. Dennis will have a live concert available on DVD later in 2014. I will definitely buy it.

The Dennis DeYoung Band put on a fantastic show at BB King's! So worth the wait after the original date being postponed. Dennis and the band did not disappoint - they were ON and seemed to have a great time playing. Really small stage but that didn't affect the vibe. Dennis' voice is still pristine. Kudos to his multi-talented band - Jimmy, Tom, Craig, August and John.

OK, I've had the chance to see both STYX and Dennis DeYoung in a two week span. Both were really good shows, and both are worth seeing. But friends have asked 'which is better?'. I'd have to give the edge to Styx. It could be a night-by-night kind of thing, with variables ranging from the band (whether they're having an off night), the venue, the crowd, or even me. To coin a phrase I used back in my tennis playing days ... "they played bigger". I'm sure I'll catch both bands again. But with everything else being equal: I'd catch STYX. So, I hereby retract my comment from a couple years ago when I said the Dennis DeYoung Band sounds more like Styx then STYX.

Wow what a show. That pretty much sums it all up. Been going to Styx concerts since 1976 and Dennis DeYoung is the voice. I haven't seen him since he left Styx and have still been going to see Styx every year. Dennise still has the voice and at 64 is getting better. He has an awesome band with him and if you like the music of Styx you WILL love every moment of this show. I got to say it's going to be hard to See Styx with Tommy and the guys after seeing and listening to the true voice of Styx. He did and does an awesome job.

Another great performance. Dennis continues to bring out the best in Styx Music. This time he was accompanied by some new band mates. They played some Styx songs that Dennis does not usually play. Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Too Much Time on my Hands and Fooling yourself. All great songs to hear with Dennis in background vocals.

I went to this show with some skepticism but also an open mind. I have seen the current incarnation of Styx (Lawrence Gowan)seven times but have never seen Dennis DeYoung live in any setting before this show. I attended the United In Rock tour in Pittsburgh the night before (June 24th) which consisted of Kansas, Foreigner, and headliner Styx. Having just seen Styx live roughly 24 hours before Dennis hit the stage, I wasn't sure that Dennis and his band would be able to top the performance of the "real" Styx... ...I was proven quite wrong. My uncle and I arrived at the Seneca Niagara Casino at 6:00 PM, so we decided to go check out the American side of the falls and the other various attractions. It's really neat to be able to go see Niagara Falls, then go back to the casino for a concert. Finally, it got to be time for the concert. It was scheduled for 8:00PM, but they ended up starting at around 8:10. Maybe this was for the purpose of building up anticipation, which it certainly did accomplish. After what seemed like an eternity, the lights went dark and a recording of "The Message" began to blast through the PA system. Seconds later, Dennis's band appeared and went right into "The Grand Illusion." Dennis ran out just in time for when the vocals start and looked and acted like a true showman. His voice sounded great, and his band was really tight and energetic. I was expecting something on par with the musicianship of a bar band, but was very pleasantly surprised by the extremely talented musicians that Dennis hired. The two guitarists, Jimmy Leahy and August Zadra are true guitar virtuosos. They made those Styx songs their own with a plethora of lightning-quick finger tapping and wah pedals, yet at the same time, stayed true to the original recordings. Their energy was on par with, or higher than that of the guys in Styx (Who are renowned for their high-energy shows.) August has another trick up his sleeve, too. That guy can belt out songs in a fashion that can give Tommy Shaw a serious run for his money. He sang Tommy's "Too Much Time On My Hands" to which he recieved thunderous applause and cheers. That guy has a great gift for lead vocals. Tom Sharpe and Craig Carter make for an excellent rhythm section. Tom Sharpe is an internationally recognized professional drummer, and for good reason. That guy is damn good and very entertaining to watch. Craig held up a very solid bottom end and added terrific backing vocals. On keyboards in addition do Dennis was master pianist/keyboardist John Blasucci. Hailing from Italy, that guy played the Styx keyboard/piano parts like they were his. John is a very talented musician and an excellent performer. Dennis's vocals were spot-on all night. He had a really high level of energy and let his terrific sense of humor show while interacting with the audience between songs. Dennis's wife Suzanne, sang backing vocals as well. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the energy, virtuosity, talent, and showmanship displayed by Dennis and his band.

I've been a Styx fan since the days of The Grand Illusion. One of my first concerts was The Paradise Theater tour back in 1981. It still ranks up there as one of the most amazing rock shows that I've ever seen, and I've seen my share. Everybody has their heroes growing up, and Styx was some of mine. The music biz was different in those days. You couldn t jump on a computer and just hear whatever you wanted to after a few key strokes on the internet. And you couldn t as easily see the people with those amazing voices. There was much more mystery to it. And with that mystery came a lot of imagination. Rockers like Styx were virtually Gods. I was more than a bit disappointed when Styx, the lineup that I knew, broke apart. I felt like I had lost a great friend. I was a bit heartbroken. Where was the music that helped me through so much going to come from from that point on. It s amazing how little that a teenager can see into the future. Styx would not have been Styx without the amazing voice of Tommy Shaw, the full-throttle guitar work of JY, and the tight percussion of the Panozzo brothers (RIP, John). But Dennis DeYoung is the one that started the ball rolling and even inspired me to pick up the keyboard instrument that my classical teacher turned me off from. One of the founding fathers of Styx, Dennis seemed a magician both in the studio and on stage. I have seen the new Styx on more than one occasion, most recently during the summer of 2009. The shows were fun, energetic, and entertaining to say the least. But there was a piece missing. With the absence of the magician, there was no magic. So when I heard that Dennis DeYoung was coming to one of my favorite, New England venues. I decided that I had to be there. It was billed as The Music of Styx. But I wanted to see and hear the magician again. He did not disappoint. At 63 years old, Mr. DeYoung has the energy of a twenty-something. His talent has not faded a bit. And he has assembled some very amazing talent to form his band. He delivered as promised. All of the greatest hits of Styx from Lady to Mr. Roboto, and as much in between as you could squeeze into over 2 hours of rock magic. He even managed to work in one of his solo tunes, Desert Moon. It was amazing. The music of Styx was back. And so was the magic, the missing piece. The powerful show was a night to remember in itself. But then came the best. I m 46, no spring chicken myself, and I have been to dozens of concerts. But I had never done the hang out after the show for an autograph thing until this night. I had one of the original copies of the vinyl record Back To The World, one of Dennis s solo projects from 1986. And I had brought it along just in case. Well, a bit of patience in the back lot of the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom paid off. I was suddenly a kid again, and one of my heroes made note of me, shook my hand, and signed one of his creations for me. Thank you, Mr. DeYoung. May 8th, 2010, will not be forgotten for some time to come.

At age 63, Dennis DeYoung has still got the energy and the voice he had in the 70's. The voice of Styx. He is supported by great musicians, even resembling the band of yore. He kept the audience singing, clapping and dancing. A gifted musician, he showed he was understanding as well, telling the audience he was aware of tough financial times, and thanking everyone for spending their money to come out to the show. For those of us Romantics, the highlight was when Dennis introduced us to his "Babe", wife of 40 years, Suzanne, who now tours beside him doing background vocals. The songs were many, and from many of Styx albums, and of course, his solo, Desert Moon. A truly wonderful evening.

The show was amazing! Classic Styx! We sadly miss the original Styx members but Dennis has "stood the test of time" as the ex-Styx-lead-singer-turned-solo-artist. Dennis' classic and highly recognizable voice carries onto his solo work. The newest CD only spotlights his amazing talent. I am honored to have known the sounds of Dennis and Styx for the past 30 years and I look forward to inspiring a younger generation. I love you, Dennis!

The ever perfectionist Dennis DeYoung has achieved not one but two stokes of genius with his recent performance at Harrah's Chester. Gone is most of the band that he has toured with for the past several years which limited Dennis to only the songs he sang. Dennis has now re-invented his band by bringing in two virtuoso guitar players. But the genius is not in bringing in just any old good guitarists. Dennis has found a James Young look-alike and Tommy Shaw sound alike. And as an added bonus, they are terriffic showman and excellent guitar players. After seeing Dennis perform about 10 times over the past 8 years, he basically has performed mostly the same songs over the years which were limited to just the ones he sang. I was shocked to see two new guitar players and my jaw dropped when they sang the first Tommy Shaw song Blue Colar Man. New guitarist Austin sounded scarily identical to Tommy Shaw. I counted three more Tommy songs as the night went on. He was great to hear other Styx songs in Dennis' shows now. The stoke of genius. Even Dennis looked invigorated and very pleased with the new sound and reception from the sold out crowd. Hopefully Dennis will keep this group together for a long time and continue to expand his set list to include some other songs which he had to leave out such as Crystal Ball, etc. I can't wait to see Dennis again soon.

Dennis still has it. Great voice, great show, great sense of humor and his new song is the best he has ever written - "100 years from now" Wait staff at BB King was the worst, maybe it was just our waitress. She looked totally spaced out. did not understand the simplest order. Friend at another table were going up to bar for drinks because she was so bad. but were not there for the food, (by the way pulled pork should be pulled not giant hunks of pork in a roll, we called it - not so pulled pork)

Dennis sounded as good as he did on all my old Styx records. His band featured 2 guitarists that sounded a lot like Tommy Shaw and James Young when singing their parts. Dennis is very fit for his age and is ever the showman. He is very engaging with the audience in a mostly light humorous way. He played most of the famous songs from the Styx catalog. Songs as far back as Lady all the way through Mr. Roboto. Dennis is still very good on keyboard. Possibly my favorite song performance of the night was the compelling Suite Madam Blue. I never had that album it was on before, but now I do.

The South Point in Vegas has bowling, an arcade, movies, rodeo, and more! Fantastic restaurants, too. Fun venue to hang out in before it's time to get in line for a concert. And we like how it's off the Strip. But the main reason we drove to Vegas for 10 hours was to see Dennis DeYoung! (WELL WORTH THE TRIP!) We've seen him live 5 times now, in 4 different states. This is our second time seeing him live a the South Point in Vegas, and we were ecstatic to hear him announce that they had already booked him for three more shows in September! :-D Dennis DeYoung's music is deeply loved and felt by each of us, and we love and admire every single member of his band! I fell in love with Dennis DeYoung and Styx in school. It is scary to admit but that was over 40 years ago. I took my high school sweetheart and now my wife of those 40 years to the Rose Theater in Pasadena, CA. Thursday night. We both feel a huge sense of pride that the music of our youth is still going strong. The memories and emotions were profound. This does support the old adage that Rock will never die. The show was absolutely epic. Dennis wasn t stingy he played it all, even the most popular Tommy Shaw and JY songs. Although it s not everybody it was definitely a Styx concert played to perfection. Dennis is the founder and the heart behind the band anyway. The show simply kicked butt! I could have closed my eyes and been 40 years younger. I am an avid concert goer and Classic Rock is my passion. It was one of the best shows I have been to in a long time. Suite Madam Blue killed me. It was like they put on the Equinox album on then added even more intensity. The tempo was perfect. A real highlight for me. The whole show completely exceeded my expectations. It blew me away. Plus there was the added bonus of such an intimate setting of the Rose Theater. I have seen Dennis and Styx many times and that show ranks in the top five. Dennis brought it all. Thank you Dennis! We love you. Long live Rock!

The show was great. Pretty much all STYX material, which is what I wanted. Everything was very good, other than... The venues food (which you have to buy to have a decent seat) is overpriced for what you get. Not hot and small portions. Lot's of confusion among the staff. The sound quality needed some tweaking. Not clear at the volume it was playing. Bottom line is overall I give the full experience a "B". Dennis De Young = A... The Rose = C

Fortunate to have scored two front row seats to this awesome show at The Meadows Casino! Dennis started strong and raised the bar thoughout this two hour tour of Styx tunes. Great showmanship and relating to the audience. Enjoyed every minute of this 2-hour show. The band plays all Styx music in the original style and complements Dennis greatly. Will see him again when we have the opportunity!

Dennis Put on another Grand show, He hasn't lost a beat for being in his 70's & he can still sing as if he was never kicked out of his band for a medical condition, He sung many of our favorites and the Band is really just a younger version of his old mates and boy can they play & Sing our favorites also, This was my 3rd time seeing this Legend in concert & hope I get another chance too, Let us not forget who the opening band was The Awesome Night Ranger Which played The songs we remembered most, & although Kelly Keagy was not their due to illness The fans helped out with sister Christen, This was my 2nd time seeing them in concert and a pleasure to finally see them again.

This show was fantastic! My husband and I are in our 30's and saw him for the first time. Every note was spot-on, and Dennis' talent and agility was very impressive. He was funny, the band mates with him were extremely talented, and we hope to see him in concert again.

The original voice of Styx band! Dennis is still kicking, dancing. His voice is the same as 40 years ago. He and his wife, Suzy Q are always the same, never get aged. Other members of his band are excellent also. Without him, the current styx is only a tribute band, sorry. I wish they just play old songs of Tommy Shaw and James Young.

What a fantastic concert! Our expectations were overwhelmingly exceeded. Dennis DeYoung was spot on with his vocals. Dennis was extremely professional, engaging and entertaining. They performed all of STYX's hits (7 out of 8 in which he wrote). The band was unbelievable! I actually preferred some of their renditions of STYX's songs so much that I purchased their Live In Los Angeles CD the following day. I loved how Dennis allowed members of the band to shine on their own, and that's what they did. Special shout out to August Zadra. I have been to many concerts and never have I seen a guitarist so enthusiastically thrilled to be performing before an audience. Incredible playing August, INCREDIBLE! The rest of the band performed flawlessly. If they return, I will see them again.

Harrah's Concert venue is a nice size with great seating view, especially front row 2nd level. Night Ranger opened with a loud set, but sounded great and it showed they were having fun on stage. These guys are tight and even with Cinderella's drummer sitting in it was iconic 80's rock n roll - loved it! Dennis DeYoung stage setup was open and thankfully not so loud. All Styx hits and Dennis still has his pipes going strong at 70 - wow! Band sounded great! Lady was a real standout, and closed with Come Sail Away - which was mostly a sing-along at first then they jammed! Overall a good show!

Amazing artist. I have enjoyed Dennis' music for more then 30 years and I have seen him live 4 times. He is an excellent singer/song writer and it comes through on stage. I like that the venues are on the smaller side, so that the show is more personable. The only concern I had for this show is that after the 3 or 4th song they increased the loudness of the music, which sometime drowned out the singer.

I've been a fan of Styx since 1975 starting with their "Equinox" album, "Crystal Ball" (76), "Grand Illusion" (77), "Pieces of Eight" (78), "Cornerstone" (79), "Paradise Theatre" (81), and through "Kilroy" (83). I saw Styx tour on each of these albums, and again in 1996 on their "Reunion" tour, the last time Dennis toured with the other members as "Styx." Frankly, Dennis sounds EXACTLY the same. Strong vocals, I was transported back to the late 1970s and early 1980s...and loved it. If you love Styx...and missed them in their "hay-day," then DON'T MISS DENNIS if he comes to your town.

This was my first time seeing Dennis Deyoung, Styx, Styx without Dennis, or any show Styx related. I must say that if I didn't know that this wasn't the original band, the music would have never given it away. The musicians in the band were all fantastic and Dennis sounded just like my "best of styx" cd in the car! Obviously at 69 years old Dennis isn't the spring chicken he was in the 70's, but you'd never guess it by his voice, and the energy he put into the show. You could tell he was having a blast performing. The other lead singer/guitar player was also fantastic, and could carry the load for a top notch styx cover band on his own. They played for 2 hours and 10 minutes with no breaks, and no opener and hit just about every great Styx tune you'd want to hear. I was thoroughly entertained and would highly recommend the show to anyone

I saw Dennis for the first time with Styx in 1981 during the Paradise tour at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island (and paid an outrageous $20.00/ ticket to be 8th row on the floor in front of the band LOL). Dennis DeYoung continues to surround himself with amazing musicians. He is the consummate showman and has kept his voice intact for the 37 years I have been listening to him. You will always go home with a smile on your face after seeing Dennis DeYoung. And then you will watch Styx stuff from the 70's on you tube.... like I did. then you will probably watch the return to Paradise tour (1996) like I did the next day. And then you will continue to be amazed how great he was then, 37 years ago, and how he has only gotten better!

I have mixed feelings about what I call "Album Tours". The good news is you know you will definitely hear some great songs in the concert (In this case, that song, for me at least, was "Come Sail Away".). The bad news is there is no spontaneity to the concert. You know what songs you will hear and you will hear them in rapid succession. This does not mean Album Tours are bad, I have been to three counting this one and I have enjoyed them all, but they do have their disadvantages. That being said this was my third time seeing Dennis DeYoung perform and he was just as terrific as he was the first two times I have seen him perform. His voice is just as good as it has always been. He clearly shows his love of performing and of his audiences in his shows and for that that helps make the show even better. He also has the benefit of a very impressive backup band. They all did very well and added to the entertainment value of the show. The lack of spontaneity of the first part of the concert was made up for in part two where DeYoung performed some of the classic Styx songs and they, as usual, were nothing short of terrific. In the end I think the concert was terrific despite its flaws and is well worth seeing.

I had reservations about seeing Dennis DeYoung because as much as I really like some Styx songs, I wasn't sure that DeYoung would a good concert, so i really went in with low expectations. But I was SO wrong! This guy had an incredible energy! The songs were spot on, and for a guy who is 71 he didn't change or miss a note!! I was happy to hear ALL of the Styx hits....one after another!! It was nice to see he had his wife (of 48 years) with him in the band!! I was there with my 16 year old who absolutely loved the concert! This was also my first visit to the Wellmont Theater, and I will be looking forward to going back there as well! Let me start off by saying that I have been a long time Styx fan. Although I really did not become aware of them until 7/7/77. (Styx fans will know this date) Sadly I was never able to see the band with Dennis. Styx still performs with some of the original band, namely Tommy Shaw and James Young but it will never, ever be the same without Dennis. It is like Journey without Steve Perry. Dennis is Styx. So when I happened upon this show and found myself in the position to attend, well I am so sorry it took 40 years to finally see Dennis. What an amazing show! And that voice, that voice. There is only one Dennis and with the start of the first note, I was immediately sent back to my parent s basement listening intently to the vinyl spinning on the player. His voice and keyboard playing are unchanged and are truly as stunning as they were 40+ years ago. He has picked an unbelievable band to back him up. (Tommy who?) He is 71 years strong and you would never guess it. He is a TRUE entertainer. It may have taken me many years to finally see this man but I will be seeing him every year he tours from now on. Thank you Dennis for a wonderful performance and for taking me back to some wonderful memories of my youth.

I absolutely loved the music and voices of Dennis DeYoung, August, Jimmy, John, Craig, Michael and Suzanne. The songs and music were amazing but after spending $70.00 on tickets and fees I was not totally happy with the standing on the floor. While yes, we all would love to get up and dance or move to the music and sing along with the songs we love so much, standing for 90 minutes on a concert showroom floor is not what I excepted. Will most definitely want to see Dennis DeYoung again but will make sure there is seating available at that cost.
