GWAR

GWAR IN CONCERT: When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT: Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal.

Most amazing experience! The band is awesome, the theatrics are amazing and the fans are the best! This turned me from a casual GWAR fan to a "let's follow them everywhere!" fan. Can't wait for GWAR-B-Q next year.

I was a little let down by a so called 25th anniversary tour. They only played about 10 or 11 songs(which most of them were new ones) and there was far less excitement and interaction from the band than in previous years. The show seemed a little stale. GWAR is worth seeing if you have never experienced it, but if you you're a die hard, you might just be let down.

This was a fantastic GWAR show as always. The venue's stage was a bit low, so you were either up close near the mosh pit and unable to see, which sucks at a show with so many stage props and costumes, or you were in the back and could see, but were so far away it was hard to make out anything. The main opening band, Job for a Cowboy, didn't make it for some reason. Slymenstra's absence takes away one really cool element, I hope she returns at some point. Overall they had some great new props and it was a GWAR show and everything you'd expect.

Gwar was a very cool concert. The music was great, the special effects, costumes and show was very energizing!!! Great entertainment. Got everyone hyper and ready to slam dance!!! Even if in a party of three!!!!!!!! We were going to start our own mosh pit upstairs!!!!!!!!! Everyone enjoyed it!!! All ages. The only disturbing fact is WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE BABY BASHING???? Leave little babies alone. Kill whatever and dismember anything you want, it's just a show, but come on, what's with the babies. The first time they showed a baby getting killed, well, ok, we can somewhat over look it...disturbing...but ok, we'll look the other way. The second time Hummmm, not liking it. The third, fourth and fifth. Enough already with killing and raping the babies!!! REMOVE THEM FROM THE SHOW, IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Other than that, kudos!!!

I've been a fan of GWAR for about 16 years and just now got to see them live. I didn't really care for the opening bands, but GWAR made up for that even though I didn't get any "blood" on me, the show was still great and I can't wait for them to come back around again. HAIL GWAR!!!!

So, I've been wanting to see gwar for the past few years but could never get the time off from school or whatever, and now I finally got to see them! The experience was legendary! After years of seeing them on tv, on this, on that, nearly getting banned from everything, their epic stage shows made this seem like an unreal dream. Actually being in the pit, getting covered in blood was just... awesome. Nothing like it really. Seeing them in person is FAR from seeing them in a video. The real experience is to DIE for. :)

One of those concerts that you'll never forget. Try and do like me and my friend and get to the very front of the crowd. I stayed at the front the entire time. Try your hardest not to lose your spot, because everybody gets jealous and wants your spot. You will be covered in blood and toxic waste and other awesome fluids!!! Bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Gwar is Gwar either you are into them or not the show is an experience but thier sound crew I wanted to punch in the head. It's a rock concert so why do they have to play rap while waiting for set up? Because they want to show how cool they are . The majority of people at these shows don't listen to that stuff. Then space is limited in these little venues And Gwar is a visual show and the sound crew lets thier buddies into the sound area blocking fans views. So I thank these two idiots running sound for Gwar you ruined 65 percent of the show for me.

GWAR was really good, I don't think quite as good as their last tour but still worth going to see. Mobile Death Camp was surprisingly very good, and a very charismatic band. Job For A Cowboy on the other hand, sounds good on CD, but I could definitely pass seeing them live.

Yet another awesome Gwar show. This was my 6th time seeing em live and they never disappoint. They didn't play as many older songs as I would've like but I do recall them playing 'Maggots' and 'Sick of You'. I missed Mobile Death Camp, the first opener, but Job for a Cowboy were surprisingly good. I do miss the days of the Misfits openin for Gwar though, those were some great shows.

I have followed the band since the early 90's, I've been to over 30 of their shows, I have seen countless bodies dropped, untold gallons of various fluids projected gloriously over a throbbing crowd of biohabs, and have even felt the gullet of the world maggot myself. Like Oderus sez, 'this isn't the rock show, THIS... IS A WAR!!!'. From beginning to end, a Gwar show assaults all of your senses, and leaves you begging for more. Oh, and they actually rock too! Lust in Space is a great album, I have high hopes for this tour. No band gives you as much entertainment for your buck, none, never. You like rock, you like live? See a effing GWAR show!!! You won't be the same afterwords.

The place where Gwar played kind of sucked. It was small, and I would have liked to have seen them at a larger venue. Also the people who were there were fairly obnoxious. I knew what to expect somewhat from the blood and guts that spray out, which you won't find at other metal shows. That's what makes Gwar so interesting. They're quite funny too for a heavy metal band. I think anyone who likes very hard rock should definetely go see this band.

Gwar was everything I had hoped for. Best show I've been to at the Masquerade. Their openers: Apothecary sounded good, still young, but put on a great show. Harvester had sound issues, it was terrible. Battlecross were the creepiest and lead vocalist was so out of it he could barely perform. If you see Gwar, don't wear clothes you don't want soaked in blood and alien goo.

Quick and to the point...Sherman Theater is freakin' awesome as usual! A very great concert venue and luckily only an hour from home. GWAR...GWAR is GWAR...They are always awesome! I have been seeing them since '91 and I truly miss Dave. GWAR can never be the same. They hopefully will evolve and keep doing what they are doing though. Nice to see Bishop back in the game. I don't care to much for Vulvatron. Yeah she's beautiful and I am sure has her own talent, but in my opinion...she doesn't fit GWAR. It was nice to see just about everybody in the band take a vocal spot. I am very curious as to where GWAR is heading...besides "Cleveland of course...Thank You very much!" BTW...there were numerous times throughout the show that brought a bloody tear to my eye! Seriously! R.I.P. Dave! Long Live GWAR!

Hail Oderus. With Dave gone, the band is really concentrating on the theatrics of the show. All cast members really put forth their best and got into the 'story' of finding Oderus. My only issue is Blothar just doesnt have the same kind of voice and the music was just 'ok'. This was my 5th Gwar show and while I left with a smile, I couldnt help but feel like something was (obviously) missing from the show. And now my REAL complaint: They closed with a Pet Shop Boys cover. They NEED to bring back "Sick of you". A Gwar show just cant end until they play Sick of You.

Well it is GWAR. Of course after the loss of Dave Brockie it will never be the same, but the band is doing rather well starting on their new adventure. I saw them months earlier at the GWAR-B-Q and they were much rougher in their sound. They have clearly had time to polish the songs since then.

Let's be honest: no one goes to a GWAR show to see anything other than GWAR. That said, the American Sharks were pretty good and I'll be checking out their album. I never was really into CoC, I thought they were OK. GWAR was just fantastic. I haven't heard much of their stuff, don't own any of their albums, but I went because they're on that list with Alice Cooper (who I've seen 3 times) of "bands you need to see live". Very glad I went. High energy concert with a ton of moshing, crowd surfing and everyone had a great time. They hose the crowd down with a variety of liquids, but it's all food coloring and water, it washed right out. They had a good sense of humor and other than a few moments to catch their breath and flesh out the story, they didn't stop playing. Nice long set too. Very recommended.

GWAR did the impossible of carring on after losing founding member, singer Dave Brockie aka Oderous Urengus. Mike Bishop (Blothar) and the rest of the slaves did a great job sharing singing duties . Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. the pagentry was definitly funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood and various other pantamime bodily fluids. It was a 16+ show, so there were plenty of young people and people from as far as New Haven CT that I met. GWAR is a good time! Opening bands were great - Band of Orcs - 4 guys dressed like Orcs, playing heavy metal, drinking booze - how appropriate! Iron Regan was great old school thrash punk - no song was over 2.5 minutes long and they shredded! White Chapel - probably the heaviest most intense show ever at one point I lost my mind to the beat intensity - I came away saying WoW

I've seen Gwar 20+ times over the last 10 years, this was a solid show, a nice mix of old and new songs, probably a lean towards the newer stuff. They are notorious for mutilating celebrates and public figures on stage and this show was no different as Gwar's slaves chopped off the breasts of the Queen of England then proceeded to have a "keep away" style catch with the Royal Baby and found the time to rip the torso from a pant-less Justin Bieber who as Oderus Urungus lead singer of Gwar pointed out looked a lot like Vanilla Ice. . . As far as the venue went, the sound was very adequate, the room was somewhat bare but efficient, with the bar located in center of the back of the room. Bartenders were very attentive, the only renovation that seems to have taken place in the last 5 years were large flat screens on the walls which had sports and upcoming show promos flashing across its pixels. All and all a pleasant experience, just get there early if its a packed show, parking lot is limited and the neighborhood isn't the kind Mr.Rodgers used to sing about.

Gwar hits a sweet spot between destroying your face with satisfying heavy metal, and putting on a genuinely fun, hilarious performance, in the full sense of the word. The guys are out and out show men, not just a metal band. When, after a very extended video game boss-like sequence where the band eviscerates and then dances with the viscera of a giant Hitler robot, Dave Brockie laughs and asks, "where else in entertainment are you gonna get that?", I burst out laughing, despite the fact that I was soaked in fake blood and exhausted from moshing. And that was only about 55% of the way through the show. You've gotta see these guys. But beware, you will be totally soaked with fake blood. You will be swimming in fake blood.

Before I went to GWAR's show, I wasn't very familiar with GWAR's music, I only knew two of their songs very well. But that show made me a huge GWAR fan. They couldn't get any tighter, and on top of a really solid musical performance, the theatrics were great. They did everything in their power to offend as many people as possible (typical GWAR), which I thought was hilarious. They "killed" a lot of people during their show, including Jesus, Hitler and Obama; needless to say, there was plenty of fake blood to go around. Overall, I highly recommend seeing GWAR, it's an experience unlike any other.

I just got my husband tickets to go see GWAR "AGAIN". This time he took his son that is 11. He likes GWAR so much he has to introduce his son to the theatrical part of GWAR instead of just listening to it in the van. I wonder if our son will figure out that they are saying "Fish F_CK" and not what he thinks which he was taught 'Fish Farts". UGH! Nice of me eh? to get my husband ticket for Gwar when he should be with me for sweetest day. And oh yeah, he didnt have time to get me anything.

Seriously?? How could this ticket possibly be less than $100 (we paid $20 for the Ybor city show). It was my first time seeing Gwar. I had an idea what I was in for but I had NO IDEA what I was in for. The Blood of Gods Tour was one of the best shows I have seen lately. We go to many live rock shows but this takes the cake. The theatrics, electricity and energy are undeniably FANtastic! If you want to be up close be sure to wear something white and be prepared to get SLOSHED soaking bloody wet by some of the most underrated musicians in outrageous costume. If you love metal but are tired of the ordinary show and want to get into the action BUY TICKETS. U.S. Bastards is good ol dirty rock and roll (secret: the lead singer is Pustulus), He is Legend is high energy hip metal. The lead singer is cool, laid back and sailed right through the first 5 minutes even though the mic wasn't working. They were a great band all around. Ghoul is crazy with hard core rock hard metal sound and a taste of the theatrics of Gwar as they like to squirt you too. But as expected, Gwar stole the show. Be sure and take before and after pictures of yourself and the venue. Moshing is certain and nn underwater camera with video would be classic. Also, Its been 4 days and my hair is still pink. SIGNED, A FOREVER GWAR FAN

Gwar kicked a lot of ass, but as I look at the mottled red staining of the seatbelts in my car I can't help but wonder, was there enough blood? I'd take that ride again regardless.

The GWAR portion of the show was fantastic. There was good story-telling and a lot of blood and props to entertain. The sound in the venue was good too. The opening bands were He Is Legend, US Bastards, and Ghoul. Ghoul was a lot like GWAR - they were awesome. I didn't like He Is Legend - not the same kind of vibe. US Bastards never performed for some reason. The venue was easy to get to by car or trolley.

Great show. GWAR was great. Ghoul was awesome. Was nice to see GWAR use blue. Haven't seen that in awhile. What sucks is the venue. Pricey drinks. Small space. We lost a fight or two from the show because GWAR didn't have the room to show everything.

Gwar is always fun to go see. I have seen them many times and I still do not own any of their music. I go for the show and it is always very entertaining. It feels a little different now that Dave Brockie passed away, however the music is good and the showmanship is great. I always recommend seeing them.

First time seeing Gwar. Been a fan for years. Was right up front. Still slightly stained from blood. Loved the whole Trump v Clinton fight. Songs from most of the albums. Opening bands Mutoid Man and Crowbar were great as well.

I had such a great time at this event. I even recovered my e-cig and phone that I lost while crowd surfing. The crowd was great, I met cool new people, and Harvester is always amazing! I love Gwar!

Saw the last show of their tour. This was about my tenth time seeing gwar and I must say it was the best gwar show I've ever seen. Even without cory smoot, they sounded incredible and since it was the last show I'm pretty sure they used every last bit of blood and guts they had. The pit was extreme, we all felt it the next day. It was all worth it. Thank you gwar.

Show was awesome. I never expect opening bands to be good, but Ghoul and Municipal Waste killed it. I'm angry that I've never been a big listener of either of them before. GWAR, of course was worth every penny. The memorial at the end for Flattus was great. However, it was by far the most violent GWAR show I've been to.

I saw GWAR on Tuesday, 3-20-12, at the WIlbur- what a great show! It did suck that we weren't allowed to mosh, stage dive, or crowd surf- and security really did a great job of enforcing that, hat's off to them- it couldn't have been easy! But, the Wilbur was prepared, I loved that the whole floor was covered with a tarp! Let's get bloody!!! It had been a long time since I last saw GWAR, this was a great show- definitely the bloodiest I've seen!

LEGACY OF DISORDER was completely forgettable. Generic modern metal trash. Think Chimaira, but without even the accidental decent song or solid live energy they present. GHOUL, as always, was phenomenal. The gimmick of overt schlock horror works great for this IMPALED side project, with enough thrash and death riffs to keep any fan of metal happy with them just based on music alone. Live, they're like a more low budget GWAR, which is perfect, and their mocking of the "no moshing" rule was spot-on. MUNICIPAL WASTE is a band that any self-respecting metal fan should see at least once. I've seen them a few times now and each time was a blast, but this was easily their weakest outing (and I saw them when frontman Tony Foresta had his entire leg in a cast, relegated to basically standing still on stage). Not due to the set, mind you, but purely because of the "no moshing" rule. Whenever people would even start swaying while headbanging, security would jump in and yell at them. Pathetic. MUNICIPAL WASTE is a band that requires a venue who understands the metal/punk/hardcore scenes and that movement is an integral part of the live presentation. GWAR was phenomenal, as they usually are, and the occasional heartfelt joke regarding the departure of Flattus Maximus (Cory Smoot, their lead guitarist for a decade who tragically died on tour last October) was the most fitting tribute possible for a man responsible for so many modern GWAR classics. The setlist didn't change much from the last time they were up in these parts prior to Smoot's passing, with the main difference being that the smaller venue allowed the spraying of "blood" to cover more than usual. As a sidenote, it was hilarious to see security attempt to prevent people from moving for GWAR and fail miserably. "NO MOSHING": If there were a more ridiculous ruling by a local venue (and, soon, possibly the entire city of Boston) I've yet to experience it. Moshing (slam dancing, circle pits, etc.) is not for everybody, and I won't mock anybody who chooses to not partake in it, but it is a massive part of the metal/punk/hardcore scene, and has been since the late 70's. It is the style of expressive dance (make no mistake about it, it IS a form of dance, just one that happens to be more chaotic and physical) that accompanies heavy music, allowing its practitioners to release whatever aggressions they may have in an often self-controlled manner (meaning that there are codes of conduct that most abide by, and those who do not tend to be ousted), and the ban of it severely hindered the experience. I don't mosh much anymore, mind you. I've grown out of it. I'd rather move a bit on the floor, headbang, and appreciate the band playing than throw elbows and slam into others, but that does not change the fact that it IS a part of the scene. As for the venue itself, the WILBUR THEATRE, it's obvious that it's not designed to host concerts part of the heavy music scene. The crowd placement was strictly enforced compared to other venues' "come as you wish" attitude that allows attendees to sit out or stand up for acts as they wish, leading to many fans being disappointed in the show overall. Security was also too harsh, looking to flex its muscle on anybody daring to not adhere to its strict guidelines for the show rather than keep the peace and ensure the crowd's safety. Overall: Great shows by GHOUL, MUNICIPAL WASTE, and GWAR; a poor show by generic "metal by numbers" act LEGACY OF DISORDER; and the Wilbur Theatre is a venue I will never return to again and, should this attitude become the default norm for Boston's venues, then I (and likely many others) will continue to go to Worcester and Providence to see the acts I wish to spend my hard-earned dollars on, placing money back into those economies.

Don't go to a Gwar show expecting to be bored to tears. Gwar never disappoints with their always stellar stage show and great playing. All your senses are fulfilled by the mighty Gwar! Don't forget to bag your phones and bring a spare change of clothes; you'll need them after the shower of gore you shall receive. A most enjoyable experience. I wish I had remembered to pack my towel! Shut up, Towelie... RIP Cory Smoot \\m/

Gwar is a band that once you see thier show you will never see anything like it ever again...unless its another gwar show. Ive seen them dozens of times over the years. great show lots of fun. Extremely fair pricing on the tickets. I mean 4 bands for 30 bucks.. sweet. The best backup band was ghoul in my opinion, they were really good and had a good show (ill definatly check them out later). The other two (municple waste and wolves in the throne room) were ok .. not great...but im not familiar with any of the three backup bands other then gwar as Ive been out of the scene a bit. so maybe had I heard thier albums before I would have liked them alot better. Only thing that was kinda lame was the wilbur theatre putting up "no moshing, no dancing, no slam dancing, no crowd surfing or you will be ejected immediatly" signs everywhere. I understand they have to for legal reasons.. but its a downer.. the crowd really didn't move at all during the opening acts, probably because they were afraid of getting thrown out. once gwar was on, I was front center stage against the barrier so I didnt see what was going on in the pit. but only about two or three people flew over my head the whole show. generally its dozens of people crowd surfing.. but thats a venue issue not a band issue. in short.. gwar is a show you cannot have a bad time at. just make sure you wrap your wallet and cellphone in a sandwich bag or leave it in the car..and don't wear leather.. cause your most likely coming home soaking wet and covered in red dye.
