This was my first time attending an opera and the whole experience was wonderful!! Everything from getting dressed up, my beautiful date, ease of parking, great performances by all, and dinner and drinks afterward were just perfect. The dancers, singers, conductor, and director did an excellent job. The Cobb Energy Center is a great place to see a performance and the staff was courteous and knowledgeable. Overall a great night!

Perfect performance for small children. Less than 1 hour, on-stage narration, fluid transition from one scene to another.

I did enjoy the performance; however, for me it felt like an "out-of-town" tryout. A new show with good possibilities, but needing fine tuning. Yes, some interesting Twyla choreography, but not consistent. There was choreography that was unusual, intricate, "outside-the-box" & very enjoyable. But then some of the work fell back to too much classic vocabulary & classic lines- arabesques, pirouettes, etc. That seemed to stray away from the Twyla Tharp ingenuity I look forward to. And believe me, I've seen her productions through the years! Also, the tiny "pas de deux" between the two youngsters (near the end) was too much of a set-up. Sure they are showing their own growing maturity, but it was out of place.

Uptake: > Took my oldest two sons (age 8) with me to see the Nutcracker the first time. They especially enjoyed when the rats came out and the final battle. Wish the plot of good vs evil would continue thru the whole thing as the second act was more difficult for them to focus on. > As an adult, I thought the dancers were amazing from start to finish. My favorite was the Coffee (Arabian dance) -- such strength, grace, and flexibility! Five stars for the dancers! Downers: > Two couples brought their babies! What on earth!?! When you pay $300+ to attend an event, you don't want to listen to someone else's baby fuss - especially when you've made arrangements to leave your own at home. Get a babysitter! > Also, at intermission, they turned down or completely off, the air conditioning and it made it extremely hot to sit thru the second act. One star for management for not creating a more comfortable environment and atmosphere during the event.

The Atlanta Nutcracker opening night is a tradition for me and my 16 year old daughter, and this year she decided to treat her elderly grandmother for Christmas. Grandma had never been to the Fox Theater, nor the Atlanta Ballet Nutcracker, so she was totally impressed. The costuming is exquisite, the dancing athletic and professional, and the live orchestra impeccable. All around an fantasitc way to kick off the Christmas season.

I enjoyed "The Nutcracker" more this time than ever before. I don't remember the set and the costumes ever being so vibrant. The dancers were so talented, and the symphony was superb! Spend a little extra money and buy the seats within the center of the theater. It is difficult to see, if you don't. Loved it!

Since I have lived in Georgia (1996) my daughter and I have attended the Nutcracker at the Fox. Once the live music was taken away and canned music was used I took a stand and refused to go. Every year the Atlanta Ballet would call me asking me why I wouldn't attend and try to sell me discounted tickets. This year they contacted me with half price tickets and the promise that there were select performances with an orchestra. I immediately bought tickets and the performance was as wonderful and beautiful as ever. All I can say is as long as there is live music I'll be there with bells on,

The performers were incredible. At one point, my daughter turned to me and said.."Dad, he just did 13 consecutive turns!" The interpretation of Mozart's Magic Flute was very intersting. We were captivated throughout. The orchestra and the singers were awesome. We highly recommend this show. (the only downer was the "cone head" of hair on top of the woman in front of me. Tall hair...please sit in the back.)

While this may have been the Atlanta Ballet I believe most of the dancers were new with the ballet or was it just the choreography, who knows. The only dancers who were interesting enough to enjoy were the guys who were really spectacular with their techniques. The girls were just dancing in my opinion. I think the addition of the live music with the ballet is a great additional long with the vocal and the chorus is great, but I am just happy we didn't pay full price for our tickets or i would have asked for a refund.

I brought a friend to this performance and it was his first experience seeing the ballet. I was embarrassed and distressed to have taken him!! The advertisement for this production says there are lavish costumes and setting and there is anything but. The scenery is Stark, bare white walls that gives an Institutionalized impression. The choreography was quite poor, but it was even hard to tell that because the women wore long black and brown flowing gowns that covered their legs. You literally could not see their legs. The opening act makes absolutely no sense and there is even a part where the Frair puts himself in the pose of Jesus Christ on the cross. Is he trying to say that his disappointment at what happened to the star crossed lovers is equal to the sacrifice that Christ made? I have no idea what the director and choreographer were thinking. Not only do I wish I could get my money back, but I wish my memory of this could be erased!! Clearly, in no uncertain terms, I do not recommend Atlanta Ballet Companies Romeo and Juliet!

Atlanta Ballet Presents Carmina Baruna...and presents it well. David Bintley brings his vision to the stage in Atlanta and the synthesis of music, movement and staging is superb. The Cantata most noted for providing college bands with the "third and long song" O Fortuna is a remarkable work considering it survived in Germany even with Goebbels taut approval and remains popular even as Orff is damned as despicable. Beautiful work by Atlanta Ballet, wonderful orchestral and a chorus that filled the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre with all the wonder a staged, live and living performance can bring. Unique, I was still humming pieces of the work until I wandered into the lobby to hear the Bee Gees wailing away on Saturday Night Fever drivel. Contradiction in terms. Where is John Travolta when you need him?

Overall I really enjoyed the performance of the Dracula ballet. The dancing was very well done and the scenery was great! The seats were also comfortable. My only reason why this wasn't 5 stars was for the music somewhat. There was times when there was added things like dripping water or banging on a door through out a whole dance that at first I could see why it was added but then it didn't stop. This really took me out of the ballet and annoyed me. My friend who joined me for the event also agreed that it took her out of the performance. Other then that I thought the music was wonderful. An another slight nit-pick I had wished the Crypt section had been longer then it was because that was my favorite scenery set and it felt like it was the least amount of time spent dancing on verses the other parts. Other then that I really enjoyed this ballet and recommend it anyone.

My daughter and I attended the Nutcracker this past December and purchased the tickets for Cinderella afterwards. The dancers were amazingly talented in this show as well. However I was disappointed in the interpretation of the story line. Though children may not be the target audience, the vast majority of the audience was comprised of families with young daughters. This being said, the show was a classic version with just a little "fun" infused. I would love to see that tweaked a little and find ways to incorporate more humorous and whimsical pieces. (Bring in the mice, the carriage, etc.)

Took my wife and daughter to the Fox to see the Nutcracker this past Saturday afternoon. Buying tickets online was easy and our seats were affordable and amazing. Especially for when it snowed at the end of the first act. None of us had ever seen a ballet. It was amazing. The dancers, young and old, made me proud to be from a city with so much talent. The orchestra was basically flawless. After the first act, we moved up to the balcony. For some reason, none of the seats were for sale up there and the view from the top is amazing. We had a blast and I'd recommend this showing of the Nutcracker to anyone. Afterwards, we walked a couple of blocks and ate dinner at Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles. A new Christmas tradition for this family for years to come!

The FOX is always a magical place but there is something about Christmas and The Nutcracker that transforms the place into a very special event. We were able to attend opening night this year and we dressed in our finest gowns and tuxedos and really enjoyed ourselves. The only thing I would change is our original seating was too close and to the right of the orchestra. We were unable to see everything. One of the ushers asked us if we would like to move to the back and middle after intermission which made all the difference in the world. I only wish she had asked us earlier, as the house was only half sold. All and all the show was wonderful as always. Thank you for always offering such marvelous, memory-making events for my family.

Scene in which Carabosse was defeated by Prince is very exciting, surprising, very artistic and very good staged technologically : smoke+she was disappeared down into the earth-hole. But: Scene that Prince awakened Princess is BAD because it was too short that the girl awakes too rapidly after a short kiss_she should be given enough time to sit up from her bed and to take back her regular appearance of a healthy girl.

The ballet dancers were perfectly on point with exactly the correct costumes to pull you truly into the romance of Romeo and Juliet. However, I was not impressed with the venue. Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre is beautiful and I loved the available of food, wine, and mixed drinks. However, once inside the theater, it was extremely hot. We generally don't leave during intermission; however we had to cool down and get water. Many people were asking the attendants, but their response was "It's that way for the dancers." This of course is a lie, because the lights the dancers are under are extremely hot already. We have previously attended The Nutcracker with the Atlanta Ballet at the Fox Theatre and did not have this problem. I would love to see another ballet by the Atlanta Ballet, but would seriously reconsider if it is at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre again.

If I only had to rate the dancers and the orchestra, I would have given a rating of 5 stars because they were incredible and inspiring. However, due to the focus being placed on friar Laurence's twisted soul I found it disappointing.

Although some of the scenes got a little long to me, I enjoyed the show ever all. The dancers were superb and the orchestra was outstanding!

What a wonderful performance! The dancers were brilliant and the Ophelia "death dance" alone was worth the price of admission. I'm not normally a fan of Phillip Glass' music, but it added so much to the theatricality of the dance. The music and the story melded beautifully. I loved the choreography.

The performers and music exceeded our expectations. The orchestra was probably the star of the show for us.

Sensually spectacular! An absolute MUST SEE! A little too suggestive for the younger ones, though.

I have never seen anything like this amazing ballet! I was a little worried that it would be too dark, too weird...and it was strange, for sure! But SO beautiful and well done. The dancers were outstanding and the costumes, sets, music, etc. were all fantastic. I can't wait to see it again next time they perform it. :)

we went Saturday at 2:00 performance. My husband and both agreed not enough Dracula. He should have been in all scenes he was excellent. Really enjoyed him entering and exiting via smoke and down stairs like he was floating. The red cape was very dramatic and added to his mystery. Enjoyed the "dead" dancing we both were thinking Thriller look a like and really enjoyed Renfoe in top of scene. Tickets very pricy would have loved to take our two granddaugthers but impossible with high ticket prices.

I was a little sceptical about seeing this as the drama this piece would require was no easy task to take on. I enjoyed every minute of it and look forward to seeing the AB perform again.

All of the dancers played their characters very well. The lifts were beautiful, the scenery was stellar, and all of the moves fit so well with the story.

For an early Valentine's day surprise I acquired these opening night tickets for my beau and I (his first ballet). After Act 1, we see Dracula, who lived up to his role as 'leading man'... Act 2 quickly passed and suddenly we found ourselves at the end of the show. To make a long story short, I am so glad my beau enjoyed his first experience, but aside from Dracula's few spurts of dance and a very dark (hard to see) sequence during "The Crypt" I simply left feeling like I need to be more selective about which shows I choose to attend in the future. The play was nice, but the choreography never reached a point for me that embedded a feeling of satisfaction- as a lover of ballet. The costumes were ornate and heavy so again, aside from a few scenes where Dracula dances, there was no elaborate choreography (that could be appreciated due to long skirts and gowns). Nice work, but not enough to quench my ballet thirst.

I booked these tickets for my mom, little brother and I (his first ballet) because I enjoy Vivaldi and was intrigued by the theme of transitioning through the seasons of the year, and the show was indeed lovely. To our surprise a bonus piece entitled "EDEN" by Wayne McGrego was performed and it was modern, edgy and thought provoking to say the least. The four seasons was quaint but Eden was amazing! I recommend everyone watch this performance wherever possible.
