I heard a song one night playing on one of my favorite shows (The Royals) and just had to know who was singing it. Odd for me. It took me a couple of days to find the info. The song was Umpqua Rushing, by Blind Pilot. I bought the song I loved it so much. I could just tell this band was probably fantastic. Not long afterwards I was shocked to see they'd be doing a show in my area and immediately purchased tickets. I only knew the one song, and my husband had absolutely no clue who this band was but if nothing else, it'd make a good date night to see how they were. They were great!! Not long into their set my husband even remarked how amazing they were. They play a lot of different instruments. Stuff you don't usually see. Israel, the lead singer, has a wonderful voice. Sounds even better live! Indy Folk band, I guess. Not what I'd normally be drawn to. It was a more intimate production, and most of the band came out for photos and to meet after the show. I really, really, enjoyed it!

We drove from Cincinnati to see the show at the Old National Centre in Indianapolis. What a show!!! It was so intimate and they sound just like they do in the studio! The venue was awesome! I could not stop smiling the entire concert!! This music moves my soul to the core. Thank you for creating the wonderful music that you do :) The new album is fantastic and the old stuff was just as incredible :) We met the band after the show to boot! Love the energy that this band creates for their audience! We tried to send Graeter's ice cream to the venue in Louisville, but couldn't find a driver to deliver the pints. Next time you are in Cincinnati - we will hook you up :) Thank you again for being the best and coolest band in the Universe!!

I saw Blind Pilot when they were opening for the Decemberists. They were auesome. So auesome in fact they were almost better than the main act. This combination of two great bands made it my best concert ever. After the concert i went and bought their cd and started listening to it constantly. They are true musicians and one of the best bands ever. If you like their CD you will love them live. They are so much better live and if you get the chance you should definetly see them live.

Wendesday gave way to major afternoon storms in the Queen City with plenty of thunder and lightning. A well needed change of pace from the heat wave drought ridden summer that so far has beaten down on the Midwest over the past few weeks. As a result of these unexpected storms, my power went out. Sitting at home in a dark, hot house I quickly decided to head out to the local bar and decide what I should do for the evening just in case the power isn't restored in the next couple hours. So here comes The Blind Pilots. For a mear $15 I can go see a live show; have an ice cold beer and get out of my powerless home. Now I want to preface this review by saying that I am 46 years old and from what I saw I definately am able to be a parent to most all the attendees of the show. I would say there was quite easily a good 800 to 900 people in the audience. The 20th century has a front standing room area up by the stage then it has an area with tables towards the rear. All were full with collegiate (or maybe even high school) kids. The band sounded great, They definately have a huge following for a reason. All six members were in unison with each other jamming away to their tunes. Here is my perplexity to the whole evening. The lighting was just plain horrible! So wait -- lets get this straight. I'm bitching about the lighting huh. Who the hell cares! Well here is why you should care. This band is so damn talented. They can sing. They can play. They sound great when mixed through the sound board, But you can't see them well up there on stage. And from what I gather, that is how the band wants it. The key board player, drummer and xylophone players are pretty much in the dark. Hell - you might as well put them outside in the parking lot and just plug them into the sound board. What this band needs is some one to design for them a stage. Raise up your drummer on a stand. Put appropriate lighting on ALL SIX members. (look- I get that maybe the band wishes to be back lighted. I talked to the lighting guy who told me this. But maybe they would like some front lighting it it was readily available). Program a nice lighting show that goes along with each songs. I guarentee that the audience of 800 would then not stand there like zombies but be more into the show. So here is a potentially big hit wonder band ready for the prime time. They have just about everything needed to go far. Cept they lack a nice light show. I do hope some one close to the band pays attention to this review and runs with my advise. Next time I get to see The Blind Pilot I hope I dont have to be blind but can actually see them up there on the stage

Great band that will definitely be playing only huge venues in the next few years. Talented lead singer and drummer are now joined with 4 new additions to the group. The use of many unusual instruments make for a full and vibrant sound. No cookie cutter music here. Authentic American talent.

Blind Pilot was awesome. But they did not start their act until past 11. Maybe next time disclose the schedule? I know that it helps the venue make money on selling drinks, etc, but still. We paid money to watch Blind Pilot at 8pm as the ticket suggested. Or 9pm or even 10pm would have been more tolerable. Or flat out say 11pm on the ticket and we'll show up at 11.

The band Blind Pilot is amazing. Last time I saw them, another band Aunt Martha opened for them. I LOVED them, and what a way to start Blind Pilot concert. I trusted they knew good musicians. This time, there was another solo performer opening. I did not care for his music, and I don't think he had much talent. I could never stand up in front of a crowd though and perform, but this guy was very bad, and the audience kept talking through out his performance. That says it all... Then he even walked out into the crowd to sing like he was Jesus... and it was just so wrong on so many levels. What bothered me is that I trusted Blind Pilot, and their opinion of what bands are good. They kept praising this guys performance during theirs... And I did not like that. Now way they thought this guy had talent, and if they did... I question Blind Pilot and their future. I don't mean to be negative - but Blind Pilot, surround yourself with good performers so we trust you know music and have good taste. This guy, and you praising his performance really turned me off... He was terrible and everyone knew it. You looked bad praising his lame performance. Sorry - truth.

Blind Pilot was flawless. They're all so incredibly talented and rotated between so many instruments during the show. I was blown away. Dan Mangan opened and he was very good- he knew how to put on a show and interact with the audience. I was worried that because their music is a bit folksy, it wouldn't make good "show" material, but if you like the band then you'll love them live.

Blind Pilot was unsurprisingly great, as usual. Great set list, energetic stage presence, and fullness of song captivation, if that makes sense. I saw them a while back at Williamsburg Music Hall, which I enjoyed more because it was less crowded and I feel the sound system had more depth and clarity there. Blind Pilot has heartbreakingly gorgeous harmonies, which I feel weren't captured as well at Webster Hall. Still, really, really amazing. Truly a band to see.

I have always thought of Blind Pilot as vanilla ice cream. Whenever I play them, everyone says "who is this- they're great!". They sounded great, but Webster Hall is not the right venue for them. I went with 3 other people who enjoyed the music (and I am a huge Blind Pilot fan), but we all agreed that we'd much rather watch them at a park venue (maybe Woodstock?) camped outdoors on a blanket. Sadly a bit too sleepy and lacking the energy that Webster Hall requires for a band to have a successful show. Incredibly talented musicians, but lacking the showmanship to pull off Webster Hall...

This was my second Blind Pilot show and I was so impressed!! I loved them the first time I saw them in Woodstock; love their CDs but this show was extra special. Webster Hall is a historical venue with outstanding acoustics. I'm not sure if the show sold out but it was close. The Band sounded perfect and the light show was amazing... Hearing and watching that many fans sing all the words to their songs, including the acoustic "3 Rounds and a Sound" was sweet - a feather in their cap!. The crowd was diverse and Everyone loved them, including me and my sister, who both traveled from different parts of upstate New York to see the show. We would do it again in a heartbeat. Blind Pilot is a special group of talented musicians who bring the added touch of "coolness" that make them fun, unique and comfortable to fans from all walks of life. I hope I get an opportunity to see them again soon.

Saw Blind Pilot at the Norva. Awesome venue, awesome band. Singer has an amazing voice, all the band members sound great on their instruments. Ended the show wih a purely acoustic (no microphones, all instruments unplugged) performance of Three Rounds And A Sound, and it was incredible. It helped that I was one person away from the stage! But you could tell that the music carried well for everyone to hear. Got a super cool poster as well, designed by the drummer and signed and numbered (one of 400). Awesome show! If they played the next night I would have gone again!

Wow sums it up best really! Six amazingly talented artist graced the stage to bring forward a very moving experience for all in attendance. Their music is trans-generational because Blind Pilot's music speaks boldly to your soul. One can't help but feel the rhythm and move or tap to their tunes. These folks are going places with their music. They are a refreshing breath of fresh air, in an industry that seems to have been lacking creativity for a while now. I've only recently started listening to Blind Pilot and it took a little while for me to warm up to them. But their albums grew on me and so since I was going to be in Boston on business when Blind Pilot would be playing at the Paradise, I figured I'd check them out. No great expectations. And maybe that's the key, because I was really knocked out by this concert. They played beautifully, the vocals were crystal clear (unusual in my admittedly limited experience of The Paradise -- this was my 4th show there), and the crowd seemed totally in synch with the music. My criteria for evaluating concerts is that for it to be "good," it must sound at least as good as the studio recordings. For it to be "great," there's got to be something more than fidelity to the recordings. In this particular case, I can't say exactly what that extra bit was, but it was there and I think everyone was feeling it. I loved this show. I've gone back to the albums since and I'm liking them much more now. In fact their on practically non-stop.

Blind Pilot was amazing! Such a talented band. I saw them 2 nights previous to this show at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon. The Neptune in my opinion is a better venue due to the fact that it is smaller and cozier. The sound is much better. If you are at the farthest seat on the mezzanine, you are still relatively close to the stage. I personally wouldn't want to be on the floor unless I was near the stage. Seeing over people's heads would be an issue. I was in line an hour before the doors opened to ensure I got good seating in the mezzanine. I loved this concert and I love Blind Pilot. I hope they are in town again soon and I hope they don't take as long to put out their fourth album.

I've always wanted to see this band live, after viewing some NPR shows on YouTube. The show started late with an opening act not listed on the billing or the ticket. Gregory Alan Isakov had a 6 member band that rocked at times, but the five or so songs he performed were mostly quiet yet strangely alluring. Great dynamics in the band with the songs rising and falling dramatically. The singer used a microphone at times that had an interesting echo effect. All in all, good warmup. The headliner came out 20 minutes or so later after semi-stripping the stage and rearranging instruments. Blind Pilot has a sound that is difficult to explain to someone, great harmonies with the banjo/multi-instrumental female backup singer. The drummer kept everything on time, the bass player, trumpet/keyboardist, marimba player, and banjo player all were very enthusiastic and looked like they were enjoying themselves. Played just about all their songs on both CDs. They ended with 3 Rounds and a Sound acoustically (no mics) played on the floor in the crowd, a touch they do in most shows I guess, but still commendable. Had a great time!!

This was the worst crowd I have ever been around when seeing a show. None of them would stop talking and yelling out comments throughout the entire set. The band did not seem to be bothered by it though and kept on playing. My biggest disappointment was when the band jumped down into the crowsd to play the last song with all their instruments into a crowd like this. They spent about 15 mins trying to get the crowd to be quiet since there were no microphones and then another 10 to back them all up and make room. I've never been so irritated as to want to tell everyone to shut up. I WAS NOT going to be that person so I dealt with it. But it made the show not enjoyable.

Blind Pilot was recommended to me and my wife by our 25-year-old singer/songwriter son who has his own band, but loves to check out other bands and recommend them. Blind Pilot drew from a mix of folk/pop/country genres, mixed in an impressive array of instruments (ukelele, Hammond organ, celeste, banjos, string bass, trumpet, vibraphone, as well as the usual guitars and drums, and a unique accordian-like keyboard with manually operated "blower"), and combined a trio of great voices in Israel Nebeker (the lead), his best friend (the string bass player) and the lone women in the group (banjo, ukele). The band was tight, melodic, passionate, tender, and intimate. The capacity crowd of over 900 was both inspired and fired up, including yours truly! I play both of their cd's all the time. Most of the attendees were in their 20's and 30's, but four or five couples our age (late 50's) also enjoyed the concert.

Played with an energy that really surprised me. The move to a six piece band really suits their live sound - highly recommended.

blind pilot's set was almost 2 hours long. they have two albums and not nearly enough variation in their catalog to support this. energy was lacking as no one in the band really took control at any point. a bit disorganized. i would probably not see them again, you're not missing much if you just listen to the cds. i love live music because of its creativity and energy but that was lacking here.

I've never been to the Bowery Ballroom before and it really surprised me. It had a really mellow lounge to hang out in before the show and it was a great place to hang out with my friends. Inside the venue, it was small and intimate - perfect for seeing Blind Pilot, which is also very intimate and mellow. Overall it was a good show and I really enjoyed seeing Blind Pilot live.

Ideal venue for an intimate setting, with a downstairs level for lounging and upstairs for performances. Blind Pilot showcased both old and new songs, ranging from the upbeat to the quietude, ending with an unforgettable drum-circle session finale.

The acoustics were amazing and blind pilot's sound was wonderful. Any spot in the house would have been a good one. They should definitely come back again. Israel Nebeker's (the lead singer) voice resonated throughout the venue.

It was AMAZING! They're better live. At the end of the concert, they played an acoustic song sitting in the middle of the audience and everybody joined. It was really cool!

I thought the show was excellent. Their lead singer has a great voice and their new material is much better live than on record. One issue I had (aside from a couple annoying people beside me haha) was the time in between songs. They took awhile in between and their banter was extremely awkward. But of course, this is a drop in the ocean compared to how good the music was. Definitely recommend!

By far THE BEST $18 I've ever spent on any concert I've been to. And that's saying quite a lot. This is one of the rare bands that is even better in person than on a CD - their live performances are so energetic and wonderful that they blow their already stellar recordings out of the water. Love, love, love this band. See them if you can. The opener, Gregory Alan Isakov, was also pretty damn amazing.

Dan Mangan was the opening act and he was great. I bought a couple of his cd's at the concert and consider it a bonus to find another great band when going out to see another. Blind Pilot was fantastic! They are one of those bands that actually sounds just as good or better live. Their energy was infectious, the whole place was standing during several songs. Loved the acoustic version of "3 rounds and a sound". Gave me goosebumps to hear so many voices in the crowd singing along. So glad we got to catch them play.

Opening band didnt start until 9 and was terrible. It was painful listening to them and can't believe they actually played for a full hour. Blind Pilot sounded good, but is probably more the type of music better heard in a non-concert atomsphere. They do not put on much of a show.

I enjoy the Blind Pilot CDs, but live they are truly great and versatile musicians. This is one of the better shows I've seen in a while. The warm up band (Barr Brothers) were very good. I can't believe the Newport didn't sell out.

Refreshingly pure sounds from a band that has such passion for music. Loved their connection with the audience and their last ballad playing in the crowd! What a memorable night. Columbus was lucky to have Blind Pilot at the Newport!

That was one of the most intimate and warm feeling shows i've ever been to, The Bowery Ballroom is a perfect venue for Blind Pilot. The encore was the best part, everyone moved in closer to the band and they played a few unplugged songs while everyone softly sang, such good vibes!
