First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit

FIRST AID KIT IN CONCERT:With their pitch-perfect harmonies and expertly crafted arrangements, Swedish indie folk duo First Aid Kit have become one of neofolk's fastest rising stars, breathing new life into the genre with their minimal, mesmerizing compositions. Sisters Johanna and Klara Soderberg's achingly beautiful voices weave in and out of one another with an intimacy that underscores their sibling relationship, making their deeply personal songwriting all the more emotional and rewarding. The girls stunned with stripped-down renditions of songs like "Ghost Town" and "Emmylou" at their 2013 shows, building anticipation for their 2014 tour dates in support of their third studio album.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Born and raised in suburban Sweden, sisters Johanna and Klara Soderberg began singing and recording songs together as teenagers, receiving their first radio airplay in 2007 when a local Swedish station picked up their demo "Tangerine.

Great show at a stunning venue. Everybody should try and catch one event at The Beacon. First Aid Kit and support Van William put on a good show, plenty of humour between songs. Definitely a band I would watch again.

Been waiting to see them since discovering them more than 6 yrs ago and I saw it announced that they were coming to Ryman for new limited u.s. date tour...thanks to Spotify presale ...got 3rd row main floor seats to see my favorite band of past few years. Phenomenal night....especially with Emmylou Harris in attendance and sitting near us which made the night even more special. Such an honor and privilege to see them play at the mother church . I will never forget it.

FAK opened their tour at The Fox in Oakland. In a lifetime of concert-going I have concluded that the worth of a show depends most on the quality of songs. FAK has some of the best songs going - really, there are no bad ones - and the songs translate well to the live stage. Johanna and Klara have been singing together all their lives so their harmonies are effortless. When Klara sings lead (as she does, for example, on the last chorus of Emmylou) the effect is magical - you'll get goosebumps. She's also a fine guitar player and Johanna keeps the band moving with her bass. The whole band has been playing these songs, even the new ones, so there were no rough edges to be smoothed by the road. FAK is one of the best live acts out there - don't pass them up!

The women of First Aid Kit are incredibly talented. Their voices soar and can portray so many different feelings despite the relatively young age of the performers. They have great guitar skills and write music that seems eternal. Lots of love for this duo! Even their cover of Heart's Crazy on You was fabulous. The venue was good and the concert sold out. Did not catch the opening act Van Williams but he came out for one song during the encore and seemed great. At the start of the concert the bass sound reverberated too much but the sound techs fixed it straight away. The whole thing was very enjoyable. Would definitely see them again!

I was expecting a more acoustic sounding show, since that is what First Aid Kit album is like. Although they sound great, and are very talented, the balcony seats were too loud. The LED light show was blinding from up there. Maybe it was shining above the people on the ground floor, but it was directly in our eyes. The Fox is a beautiful, chimney shaped building, which makes for lousy acoustics upstairs. You could hear the crowd noise, and there's an extremely large speaker pointing at you. Next time, ear plugs & sunglasses.

Could not ask for a more beautiful venue. First and foremost, I am a huge fan of these ladies and their harmonious vocal blend. Having said that, I wish the Fox would have had better sound. I found it to be too hard/harsh for their type of music and vocals. I also felt like the show was a bit short. I would have liked an hour and a half, at least. Finally, now this is for the band...if they played half of their set acoustic and the other half with the whole band, that would have been perfect! The reason why your fans love you are because of those incredible harmonies. All in all, I enjoyed they show very much!

The Moore theater, with its tall vivaciousness, lent itself well to the delicious harmonies of these extremely talented sisters. Every note was captured and penetrated the walls. Their in sync voices and perfectly placed notes rang through everyone s hearts and they gave an incredible performance without falter. And as if they needed to prove themselves, or just so sweetly wanted to pay only extremely amazing tribute to the sister duo band Heart, they anihilated (consumed and beautifully regurgitated) the song Crazy on You... bringing the Moore house down. Applause to these beautiful, strong and talented ladies, and their equally as talented and amazing band, and thank you Moore theater for hosting such magical beings!

It was my first time ever seeing First Aid Kit live so I honestly didn't know what to expect in their performance. I was immediately impressed by how good they sounded live and the acoustics of church that they played in only made them sound better. They played a great set loaded with surprises had the crowd singing along they whole time. They only downside about the show was how hot it was inside of the church. During the intermission between the two acts a lot of people showed up and started taking their seats and this made the room very warm but by the end of the show everybody was sweaty. Overall it was a fantastic show! My only recommendation would be to watch them at a venue with air conditioning.

OK so maybe I am a super-fan, getting to the venue 5 hours before doors and all, but, being that close makes you feel a bit more connected, and as if your singing along at the top of your voice means that you are actually almost in the band. Just a bunch of Swedes hanging out, belting out our favorite tunes! ;) Plus, getting there early I got to meet some other dedicated fans, and got to see Johanna having her picture taken in front of the venue ( jumping so high she hid me from view) ;) Beautiful harmonies as usual, great crowd connection, surprising cover songs. All First Aid Kit awesomeness.

The two beautiful sisters, with their extraordinary voices, and their unique chemistry continue to amaze audiences and professionals alike, due to their solid talent, and their gift. Considering that this is the beginning of their career, I will watch, and smile at their ascend, as I forsee that these two will become true stars in the sky of music. I feel especially lucky, as it was their first time in Tampa, and I have the feeling that they won't perform much longer in small venues, such as the Ritz Ybor.

I'm not from Nashville, but I was IN TOWN for the week and knew that First Aid KIt was performing. I was pretty excited about it, but didn't think I had time in my schedule to go to the show. After having a friend tell me "if you like a band, you need to see them at the Ryman and you'll walk out of there loving them." And it was so true. The sound there is killer, so if you a great band performing there, you better hold onto your socks, as they will be rocked off! First, their opener: Samantha Crain. With hints of Ingrid Michaelson in her vocals and lyrics that could make you both smile and break your heart, she was a great opener. Coming onto the Ryman stage, you felt like you were at a highschool talent show... and there was certainly a lot of talent there. First Aid Kit came on soon after, and showed today's top artists how it's done. The band looked very excited and seemed genuinely grateful. The two sisters had help with a lap steel guitar player and a drummer that was tighter than... ya know... tight stuff. Each song played seemed to be better than the last, mixing speeds perfectly to keep the crowd enthused and the show more awesome. Sure I was a fan before I went to the show, but I think I'm more than that leaving the auditorium. The band is just good at what they do, you don't see that often. You usually hear a band on a record and say "Man, they're great" only to go to a show and see them and say "Man, I hate this band," First Aid Kit was not like that at all. It's rare to find a band that is better live than what's recorded, First Aid Kit is one of those bands. The girls went unplugged. Performing with just an acoustic guitar singing to a quiet audience with no microphones, just heart, soul, guitar and vocals, and we all listened. A standing ovation was given afterward when we all realized we were witnessing something more than just a performance. Love it! A side note: I heard First Aid Kit for the first time while watching the show Nashville after me first trip to Nashville at my awestruck. It only seemed right to see them perform IN Nashville. So good.

This was the second time I've seen First Aid Kit on their Stay Gold tour, the first being in June, but this time the bigger venue provided for a completely different experience. The show was flawless, and you can tell that this tour has really shaped Klara and Johanna as performers. Everything was perfectly produced, the lighting was amazing, and the sound was great even from the second balcony (which was a surprisingly great view, too). The live string orchestra really added to the overall sound as well. Their voices are truly impeccable live, they sound just like the recordings. And despite the larger venue, Klara and Johanna still took the time to interact with the audience between songs and just generally be adorable. I traveled from Philly for this and it was most definitely worth it. If you have the chance to see First Aid Kit live, GO.

First Aid Kit provide that rare combination in a concert: music that sounds just like their recorded stuff while delivering a concert full of character and a close connection with the audience. For such a young band, they are amazingly professional as well as having god-given talent. A venue like Webster Hall provides just the right amount of intimacy to really make the concert a personal milestone. This is one I will remember for a long time.

This was the first time I've seen First Aid Kit perform. I've been into them since they started releasing music and it was truly an awesome experience. Not only do they sound phenomenal live, but their stage presence is spot on. There wasn't a single dull moment at the show, even with the opener! Willy Mason knew how to put on a great opening act which was awesome. Sometimes it sucks waiting for the main act but I didn't feel bored once during either performance. I was talked into going to this concert by my roommate. Before this, I had only heard their song Emmylou, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I was blown away!! They just casually came on stage and began to sing the most beautiful harmonies. There was never a dull moment at this concert, and after each song I would turn to my roommate and yell, "They are so good!!" (The show was not at the Brighton Music Hall as originally intended...the venue was changed to The Paradise Rock Club, which is my favorite place to see a show, so I was thrilled) What a wonderful show. They sounded fantastic. Had they been performing again the following night, I would have gone to that show too. I absolutely can't wait to see them again. If they come to your area, be sure not to miss them! The highlight of the night was when Klara said she wanted to do an experiment, after which she asked if everyone in the crowd could be completely silent. She and Johanna then came right up to the edge of the stage, directly in front of me (I actually had to step back, because if I hadn't, my nose would have literally been about an inch from Johanna's dress), and sang the song "Ghost Town" completely unplugged. It was a special, intimate moment that you rarely, if ever, get to experience with one of your favorite musicians. I felt humbled and honored, and I still get the chills when I think about it. It's something I'll never forget. I have my own personal photo and video from that amazing moment attached to this review, so enjoy.

My wife and I were approaching Nashville on a return trip from Florida to Minnesota. The Ryman Auditorium is a favorite spot to see music. We decided to secure tickets and had no idea who First Aid Kit was as a group, and had never heard any of their music. After being told twice the show was sold out, we were very lucky to acquire two front row balcony seats for this show. We are happily blown away by the performance that this duo put on for us and everyone else in the audience. I recommended that my two daughters go see them on their next stop in Chicago and then DC. This was my first concert at Danforth Music Hall and my friend's first ever concert, safe to say we both left the venue very impressed. First Aid Kit just oozes passion and a love of music on stage. Their show made their music come to life in an even more exciting way. The only complaint that I have is that they took a little too long to come on stage, but whatever happens happens. For all I know they had production issues. I think that everyone was just in awe of their sincerity and unbelievable talent, it was just so impressive. Plus they were very sweet, chatting up the crowd between songs. In addition, their light technician was brilliant. The light show totally enhanced the experience and made for some beautiful colours on stage. My friend and I were also lucky enough to be almost at the very front of the General Admission section (we had waited outside for about 45 minutes before the doors opened). In short, DO NOT miss them if they're playing near you!

Incredible. I first heard First Aid Kit from a friend's review. Since then, I have purchased all of their albums and EP''s. The show was probably the best I''ve seen in LA with the acoustics and general performance. They did a stellar version of the Big Black and Blue song, Ghost Town with no mics that really hit the mark. They rocked far more than expected from the subtle folkiness of their albums, and very much energized the crowd. I would pay to come back. I enjoyed the energy of Johanna on keyboard, she really got into the songs and moved with the music.

I've seen FAK a few times now and each time they, all over again, send me home in complete awe. Their musicianship is unparalleled - they don't need a rhythm section or amplification to fill the room. They're song writing is fresh. They're voices are amazing independently - but are absolutely meant to be together. I highly recommend seeing them live, as well as listening to their studio work.

Every time I see them they make it more and more unforgettable. This was the third time I attended one of their shows and they never disappoint. I can't stress enough how great this band is musically and personally. Great music and great people overall. I honestly think everyone should watch them live at least once in their life because they're THAT good. It's basically an item that should be on your bucket list.

First Aid Kit put up a great show! The two girls from Sweden are quite young but already amazing musicians. They also brought a really good drummer/ percussionist and a guitarist with them, so it was just a pleasure so see them perform so perfectly together. The setlist was a perfect mix of very quiet, emotional moments and powerful, louder pieces. Thank you, First Aid Kit!

I found out about First Aid Kit a year ago as their newest album "The Lion's Roar" quickly became one of my favorites of 2012. Johanna and Klara are in the small family of musicians who sound even better live. They were able to squeeze a dream setlist into the perfect concert length and kept the audience entranced with minimal yet powerful lighting effects. An album signing by the band after a three song encore sealed the deal for making this one of the best concerts I have ever been to. It's the little things like that which turn fans into followers. I can't wait for the next time they'll be playing in the area.

The Fonda Theatre is an excellent venue. Beautiful decor and the sound was great! First Aid Kit, wow, they are amazing! I saw them at Coachella this past year and fell in love and had to see them again. They did not disappoint as the headliner. I can honestly say I've never heard 2 voices blend together as well as theirs do. Their voices are truly heavenly!

I have been listening to First Aid Kit for over 2 years now, and I have been a big fan for a long time. I was so excited to go see the show. This is one of those bands that just sound better live. Klara and Johanna have such great personalities on stage, and caught eyes with me on several occasions followed by a small smile. You can tell they really truly care about the crowd, and they love to see people singing back. They are just normal girls and that shows through in how humble they are on stage. After the show, they mentioned they would be at the merch table to meet and sign stuff! I was so excited. I was standing at the front barricade dead center stage, so I had quite the fight to get to the merch table. By the time I got to meet them, they seemed super tired and ready to go to sleep. I know they had to go to San Francisco the next day (8 hour drive), so I bet they weren't super happy. I am glad I met them and got a signed vinyl and cd, plus a photo with them, but it's always hard to see one of your favorite artists just in kind of a sour mood. Show was great, meet and greet was okay, super awesome show all around.

This might have been the best concert I have seen. Their voices along with the lighting well it was an absolute stellar performance. So happy to see them live and much like the Avett Bros. are just as good if not better live than on their albums.

It was awesome!!! First Aid Kit was great, but the Fonda is still playing the music in between sets so loud that it is unpleasant to be there waiting for a band to come on. The sound is garishly loud and hard to bear. That said, First Aid Kit sounded wonderful and it was an amazing show. Thanks!

The sound was incredible, mostly because of the sisters unbeliavable voices! A great athmosphere and beautiful songs.

Once again, a band that justifies this type of venue. The angelic voices of the Soderberg sisters in the synagogue affirmed their robust talent. The Washington Post likened them to Joni Mitchell - rightly so when it comes to their lyrics, but a better suited contemporary of theirs might be the Fleetfoxes. The Soderberg harmonies are similarily tight and pure. I feel fortunate to have experienced First Aid Kit in such an intimate setting. Good stuff.

Probably the most emotional concert I have ever attended. Their voices were other-worldy, the crowd was awesome. As I stated, I cried as they sung because it was that beautiful, and I was nowhere near the only one. If you ever have the chance to see them, do because you will not regret it.

Many folk groups are arising today out of the accessibility of technologies that permit individuals to promote their music. As such this has permitted a tremendous amount of talent to be seen by the public. First Aid Kit is a group that has taken styles of 1960s folk music and songwriting and transformed those folk music elements into words and melodies appropriate for the 21st century. If you compare folk groups today, First Aid Kit appears as one of the most radical in their songs; the vivid emotion in their poetry is unparalleled by other groups, in terms of themes they discuss and ideas they explore. The Soderberg sisters clearly take their music very seriously; their harmonies and lyrics illustrate a kind of maturity far beyond their young years. As a folksinger myself, I find this highly evident. First Aid Kit is bound to challenge the more popular folk-oriented groups. Folk music is coming back, stronger all the time. When we look back in history, First Aid Kit will likely be one of the most important groups, if the not the most important one, in beginning to make this happen. It will be exciting to see their next album, and what great work they will produce.

This concert was absolutely flawless. The only word I can use to describe this concert is beautiful. The set list was perfect, so was the encore. Couldn't have asked for a better venue, it was totally personal and they really connected with the audience. This one's gonna be hard to top.

First Aid Kit is well worth going to see and definitely was a memorable experience. I loved their cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "America," as well as when they sang Ghost Town with the audience. Definitely would go see them again!

First Aid Kit put on a FANTASTIC show. I felt like they were having as much fun performing as we were watching them. I love when they rock out! I was surprised by how much energy the show had, because a lot of their songs are more solemn....but I was captivated from the first song to the encore. Beautiful voices, too.

This show was amazing! I joked that I needed to revise my current list of top 5 concerts I've attended in my lifetime. They were just spectacular performers! I traveled to Atlanta, GA from Ohio just to see them and it was worth every minute of driving. I hope to see them again.

I saw First Aid Kit at Variety Playhouse on Saturday, November 1st. The opener was Samantha Crain, who really was a better comedian than performer. Samantha's set lasted about 35 minutes, and then there was about a 15/20 minute intermission. First Aid Kit's entire set was great. There was no auto-tune nor lip-sync. The girls really gave it their all and the crowd was engaged. I was wondering how the set would sound with the two girls, a drummer, and another musician as I know the new album, "Stay Gold,' used more people to record it (violin players, etc). I think the additional music was pre-recorded, but that was fine because you could focus more on the girls and the music. I will gladly see them in concert again.
