I have been following Steve Earle since Guitar Town and I even drove 12 hours from Miami to Atlanta to see him play in 1988 for the Copperhead Road tour. I have not missed him yet and I have never been disappointed. I just love everything he does and his sincerity comes through. He really cares about his fans and appreciates us as we appreciate him. A large group of people waited after the concert to meet him and he was absolutely Super! Really Friendly, Down to earth and Interesting. Highlights of the concert were Galway Girl, Copperhead Road, Guitar Town, Goodbye Michaelangelo to name a few but everything was really great! As I said...Don't miss him!

The pageant is a great venue-it's true there is not a bad seat in the house. Nice to accommodate minors also. Steve Earle is at the top of his game. Sorry to hear you're single again, buddy. The Mastersons were a surprise-hadn't known them before. Husband and wife, you can feel the energy between them. Beautiful harmonies. Would see them on their own in the future.

First time seeing Steve Earle, Caught him live at the Pantage's Theatre in Minneapolis. On this tour he is celebrating the original release (1988) of the Copperhead Road album - a classic! He's out on the road with according to Steve his best band he's ever been on tour with. They are a special group of talented accomplished musicians. This show was stellar from the opening tune Copperhead Road to the end of the set. If you can catch this current tour- you couldn't pick a better time to see Steve and the Dukes.

Hearing this classic album in its entirety was amazing. The only issue was that by doing this he wasn't able to play so many others of his vast catalog. Great show.

We always loved Steve Earls music. We came to his concert to hear just that his music. Not his political views and judging. I guess that s why there was no one there. When we got there we wondered what was going on because there was no line and hardly any people. Now we know. Not a fan anymore. He should have stuck to his music.

I just happened to stumble upon Steve Earle on Spotify. I listened to a few songs and really liked them. I was listening on Saturday evening, and happened to click on the Concerts button, and DAMN, if he was not playing the next night in Ft. Lauderdale. I took that as a sign and bought tickets. Also, I had never been to the War Memorial Auditorium, so did not know what to expect there either. What an amazing show!!! The Masterson's opened for them, and they were awesome. Then they were playing with Steve's band as well - guess they are also Dukes. Steve was great, the band was great, music was great!! Loved the show!!!

My wife and I attended the concert December 16th in Ft Lauderdale Florida. I was expecting to listen to good music, and to be entertained by a great artist, and a great band. The music was terrific BUT, we did not pay to be slammed for our political views or to hear insults hurled at our political party, or at our President. In this age, we all need to be open minded, and accepting of the views of others. I did not find this to be the case with Steve Earl. I have been a fan for years, but I lost all respect, and was appalled at the intolerant rhetoric, insulting demeanor, and the hatred of my party displayed by Steve Earl. If I had known this was going to be a political event, I would not have attended.

I m a big fan of Steve Earle so I may be biased. He played a lengthy set, with a great song selection and wonderful interaction with the audience. The venue was good because it s small, every seat is a good seat, and the acoustics were perfect. My favorite part of the show was afterwards, getting the opportunity to meet and speak with Steve Earle. He was very approachable and chatty, He has an obvious affinity towards his fans.

sound quality and seating at walker theatre were great. opening act the mastersons was a good warm up. steve came out with newer material that was well done then played hits from the 80s that i loved hearing. his singing was wonderful and his assisting cast played well. just be aware that 45 minutes into the show the music stops and he gets political. a dozen people and i walked out. I'm sick of politics

Everyone at the Walker theater was extremely nice and helpful. The sound in the room was surprisingly wonderful and the "mix" was just right for my ears. I really enjoyed the venue and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, relaxing night out on the town. I'm a huge Steve Earl fan, as long as he's not talking. The performance, the band, the songs were all top notch and wonderful to listen to. But do you really have to use the F-bomb as though it were an exclamation mark at the end of every sentence? Low class... Midway through the show he began, polarizing, alienating and downright insulting half the audience with his political rants and ravings. And his insulting and vulgar remarks regarding the POTUS. Several folks got up and left the concert. I expected some of this but not to the degree that it went on, and it happened several times throughout the night. I was really disappointed that for 40 bucks I couldn't just enjoy some good music with someone ruining the night with political rhetoric.

The Dukes stayed on stage the whole night. Nonstop music for the whole night. Emmylou, Lucinda, Steve Earl all helped each other during their sets. They seemed to have as good of a time as we did! One of the tightest bands i ve seen in a long, long time.

We LOVED Emmy Lou and Steve Earle and the Dukes (especially the Mastersons) and Lucinda Williams. Wonderful performances and energy from all, but we have NEVER heard such horrible sound. The mikes were off, the performers drowned each other out on several pieces, there was no balance across the performancers or their instruments. We couldn't figure out why the sound board was on the SIDE of the stage, but clearly, that wasn't a good idea. HORRIBLE results! How to ruin what would have otherwise been an amazing concert.

It was good. Had the feel of Waylon to it. There was a couple of band members that called themselves The Mastersons. They were good in their own right. At one point while introducing the band he commented that the woman (Masterson not sure of the first name) brought the group up by 20%. He was on the money. She was hot talented and certainly on her way up. Without her it would still be good but she certainly boosted the entire performance.

Steve Earle has grown from the maverick stallion to the gentleman's steed in the terms of musicianship and performance. He doesn't shy away from his experiences, owns the space around him and his band and beautifully spins stories of his life experiences into fantastic musical tales. Great performance from beginning to end. As for The State Theatre, it's one of my favorite rooms as a general rule. However, that night, it was hotter than HELL!!! 95F outside all day brought that room to a swelter by 9pm.

We were all very disappointed in this show!! The older songs were great to hear, and a few a the new songs were good. Over all we felt it was a very depressive and non personable concert! Music: awesome Sound: to much feedback Seating: good Love the concert until Earle went political on the crowd, TWICE. We pay good hard earned money to enjoy concerts and do not wanted to hear political views of the artist. It does not matter if the are the same as mine and not, NOT AT A CONCERT. Walked out of the venue feeling like it was a political rant. NOT GOOD

Earle's story telling and tying the stories to the music was excellent. His voice is a little rougher than it was 30 years ago but I think it's getting even better. His band and back-up/feature singers were great. Musicians were tight and excellent. The only criticism would be the voice mixing. Pushing the music, garbled the voices. His music doesn't need to be cranked up to get the message across. His words are his message.

Steve Earle is a legend, no doubt about it. Enjoyed the concert very much, with a few exceptions. Wish he had played more of his old stuff, as I think that's what a lot of us oldies came for. And why or why do some musicians feel the need to school us on their politics? I just passed on Bonnie Raitt's concert for that very reason. Last, way too liberal with the f-word...I'm no prude, but I did tire of hearing it over and over. That being said, he is an amazing musician and writer and The Dukes kicked some serious a$$. May have to go out and buy whatever The Mastersons have out.

Sound was terrible. Music drowned out the vocals. The only words you could understand were on old songs that you knew, and that was only about 3 songs. Also I didn't go to listen to his political views, I went to hear him sing the songs that made him famous.

Absolute let down. Once a great American country song writer, now a self proclaimed political activist. Mr. Earle used his show to speak out against the fans who have loyally supported him. It's a disgrace when an entertainer forgets his purpose, and ruins an evening by setting an uncomfortable tone for the demographic present. The Grand should not invite Mr. Earle back to play in South Dakota.

Another great show at the Stiefel! We had seats in row I in the center section and the sound was great. Not having seen Steve live in many years I didn't quite know what to expect, but this was everything you could want in a Steve Earle show. He covered the whole range of material from early to late, from acoustic to hard rock and light upbeat songs to the darker side of Steve Earle. Fortunately I had picked up his new album Terraplane and so was familiar with at least 5 of the 6 or so songs from that album, including Baby, Baby, Baby, You're the Best Lover That I Ever Had and Go-Go Boots Are Back. But he also covered early favorites like Guitar Town and Copperhead Road. The band sounded great. The opening duo, The Mastersons, a husband and wife team of Chris Masterson and Eleanor Whitmore were also a major part of Steve's band. Chris on lead guitar and Eleanor on fiddle and sometimes the keyboard were both excellent. Bottom line, fantastic show, great musicians, great tune selection from an American icon. Thanks Steve! 5 Guitars

I've seen Steve Earle, both solo, with The Dukes, and with The Mastersons, quite a few times now. Sunday night's performance - from the second the lights dimmed when The Mastersons took the stage to warm the crowd up -to the end of the evening, when the house lights came back on, my wife and I were just - in awe. I thought that maybe some of it had to do with the fact that I was actually sitting in a club where I first sat as a college idiot in the late 70's wondering why the soles of my shoes were sticking to the floor, then looking over to see, for the first time, the woman that I later married and had our three kids with - but I don't think that was it. I believe it was because the performance, the set list, and the stories that Steve Earle shared, made me feel so alive, so happy and thankful, that I once again, was able to witness one of the top singer/songwriters of my time do his thing. Steve Earle and I are about the same age now. I am familiar with some of the trials and tribulations he overcame during his "outlaw" life - some of them similar to the ones my family growing up faced. However, this artist and band just keeps getting better and better. This show, "Copperhead Road" is a "must-see" and if you're not out of your seat dancing, smiling, and maybe at times, trying to hide a tear or two, than check your pulse because you must already be dead. Way to go Steve Earle and the gang!

I was quite excited to go see Steve Earle and the Dukes the show opened up with the mastersons they were awesome. Steve Earle came out and did the whole album of Copperhead Road his band was very diverse and extremely talented musicians. However I don't care who they artist is I don't care what their politics are but I really don't care to hear their politics while I'm trying to be entertained. Some years ago I saw Santana and he was griping about Barack Obama. Bottom line I really don't care again entertain me with your music and that's all I need I really don't need to hear how you don't like this politician or that politician.

The event was held in a Ballroom instead of theater or auditorium. Was regular chair seating that got uncomfortable as concert went on. Steve Earle and Dukes are great entertainers. This was my first time to see them in person. The music was great, but, way too loud. It overpowered the vocals. We could barely hear the words. This was my wife's first exposure to Steve Earle. She was impressed by the professional musicians, but, very disappointed that we could not hear the vocals.

Steve Earle always puts on a fabulous show, but this may have been the best one yet. The Dukes were in top form and rocked the house. The Mastersons did a brief warm up set before the main performance. During both performances, Elininor s fiddle playing and vocals were beyond compare. Chris Masterson s guitar was like the classic rock gods of the 60s and 70s. The first segment of the show was great as Steve told background stories about the recording of his classic, Copperhead Road. The second segment showcased some of the jewels from Steve Earle s extensive catalogue of material. It was great to hear Steve tell stories and speak passionately about his political beliefs.

I saw Steve at the Bijou back late last year, and he was okay at that time. This time, though, he was brought his "A" game.. He can rock with the best of the them, but he also writes and sings one helluva love song and ballads. I particularly like the way he played the whole Copperhead Road album and then played a lot of the "B" sides that I had not heard in forever. In between songs, he reminisced out loud about where he was living and the thoughts going through his head at the time. Doing that gave more poignancy to his songs. Very tight band backing him up.

and I will NEVER waste money on a Steve Earle show again. in short, I walked out after 8 songs. WHY? because bright, white staitc was coming out of the PA every time Steve sang a vocal over "conversation level". the KICKER was that Steve *acknowledged it from the stage*, and then his crew ~~~messed with his guitar pedals~~~, when it was HIS VOCALS THAT WERE DISTORTING. the staff at the Bijou tentatively agreed to refund my money, we will see if that actually happens.... SHAME ON YOU Mr. Earle....shame on you. and after doing some online investigating, I found that this was a PATTERN with Steve's soundman.

What a great show. Steve Earle and the Dukes were on fire doing the entire Copperhead Road album plus many songs from his newest album. Only problem was the sound guy must have been asleep. In many instances Steve's voice was lost among the instruments. If you didn't know the words to the song you were lost. Plus I have seen a number of performers at the State Theater not the best acoustics in town by far.

All of Copperhead Road, a few from the new album, and a variety of other great songs from his amazing career. Band was HOT all night, 2 hour set of wonderful energy. Steve Earle revisits his mainstream breakthrough album Copperhead Road on the 30th anniversary of its release. Arguably his least compelling album, Earle s song cycle of Vietnam War reckoning and love songs haven t aged as well as his other works. Clad in a bandanna and biker chic get up the hardcore troubadour delivered a rushed but professional set of Copperhead Road in its entirety. Starting with your best known song is ballsy but I thought he missed a huge opportunity by blazing through The Devils Right Hand , his ode and lament to guns. What could be more topical right now? Nothing But A Child -the last song on Copperhead Road-soared with help from opening band The Mastersons, an incredibly tight, nuanced duo who played with Earle throughout. Once Copperhead Road was exhumed and come completed the show began to soar. Earle ran through a string of songs from the recent excellent So You Want To Be An Outlaw and seemed to find a groove. Firebreak Line is one of the best songs from his considerable canon and the duet on I m Still In Love With You (from the 1999 album The Mountain) was an absolute show stopper. At this point Earle is an American institution but one decidedly on the fringe. He s still out there in the trenches, not afraid to dig deep and examine what it means to love and lose in our still weird, old America.

once again The sound technician (expert?) decided that he liked the guitars and drums to overpower the voices. This resulted in a garbled mess of a show in which you couldn't tell what the singers were singing! What a wreck! We left mid-show and I haven't done that in 20 some years!. As we were slipping out of our row of seats we discovered we were the only ones left in our row which was full at the start. Too bad the people writing the checks aren't listening to the sound!

Steve Earle is simply an amazing songwriter and totally unpretentious performer. My first time seeing him, I was totally impressed by his natural presence and excellent band. The only negative to me was that he chose to do so much material from his new album which is focussed on the blues. He did it quite well but I think the blues structure limits him lyrically. I didn;t find any of the blues numbers as profound as some of his other lyrics.

Boy am I glad I was convinced to go to the Variety again. This time Steve Earle was the headline. He started with new material, followed with a long medley of past hits, played solo and then rocked the house until he finished with two encores. He shared stories of his past history with the Variety and Atl. I can only hope that this story will continue for a long time.

I've never seen Steve and his band before, but have been a fan for years. Steve blew the crowd away! He is definitely a talented man and loves to play music. He seems like he's down to earth and a real kind of guy. Wears his heart on his sleeve and loves to showcase his band and its members. He appreciates his talent. I would highly recommend his show to anyone. He plays everything from blue grass, country, blues to rock and roll. He played a solid 2 1/2 hours and was outstanding! This show was one of the best I've seen all year.

I have been following this artist for 15 years. This is my first time seeing him live. All I can say is I have a much better appreciation for what goes in to his music now and he is an outstanding performer and artist.

Played for about two hours. While I like his music I really only know a few of his tunes well, and I felt I would enjoy anything he played, which turned out to be true. He played some blues tunes from a new album which were very good. I have listened to his XM radio show many times and he has a great knowledge about the history of music and musicians.

The Mastersons are definitely worth checking out either on this tour or on their own if they come through your town. Remind me of '90s Jayhawks with a killer female vocal in place of Gary Louris and a better, but similar, Mark Olson counterpart. Steve and the Dukes really sound great. But don't come to this expecting him to get deep into his back catalog. He'll hit a few of the mandatory (ie. Copperhead Road, My Old Friend the Blues, Can't Remember if We Said Goodbye) but not much else. Very strong focus on new album, which really sounds great. Can't stand that he plays Hey Joe and especially that he closes set with Wild Thing. This is one of the great Amercan songwriters of our time (IMO) and he certainly has the back catalog to avoid such "wedding/prom band" song choices.

Steve Earle and the Dukes were outstanding, playing old and new songs in one continual constant flow of music for approx. two hours, without a break. The music sounded even better than any of their recordings. We traveled through hail storms, despite tornado warnings and it was worth it. By far one of the best concerts I've gone too.

I have followed the music and career of Steve Earle since the late 1980s. I have been a big fan - but I had never seen him in concert. The Stiefel Theater in Salina Kansas is where that puppy got popped. What a great venue for a tremendous concert. Even though it was a rainy Thursday evening, Steve and the Dukes delivered everything I could have hoped for. He played most of his songs from his new album "Terraplane" but many of his classics as well. Although I live near Kansas City, I am seriously considering a road trip to Winterpeg to see them again in August. Thanks Steve.

Steve was personable and entertaining. So much more than 'Copperhead Road'. I loved the old blues tunes and Earley stuff. Pun intended.

Steve Earle and the Dukes were superb. Set list perfect. New and old song selection very nice. The sound person had a hard time. It sounded like it was set up for outside. Bass too much vocals barely audible. Steve and the bamd were on it, but the sound was terrible for the first hour.

Steve Earle put on a long, comprehensive energetic show. Unfortunately, from our right front balcony seats, the sound was muddy and lyrics were very hard to hear. It may be this location at HOB, but it seemed the bass and percussion was overamplified and sound was distorted. I've observed the same thing at HOB in a somewhat different location. Next time I'l try a completely different location before giving up on HOB. The poor sound really detracts from the experience.

Great band, The Mastersons and Steve Earle were spot on with the vocals; his long time bassist and drummer completed the group. The Mastersons provided great lead guitar and fiddle; I was so impressed that I went out and bought their newest CD soon afterwards. The show was great but way too short; it was only 90 minutes including the encore! Does anyone remember when bands used to play their hearts out? That was why I was able to witness Led Zepplin play Louie Louie because they ran out of songs back in 1972; a 4 hour concert, what ever happened to that attitude?

If you are a Earle fan, you'd be an idiot to miss this. The set list left you completely fulfilled. Of course there are some songs I wish I'd heard, but with a catalog like his you will always be left that way. He covered careful selections from the 80's to the new album, playing for a bit before doing some of his commentary/monologue. It was perfectly balanced, and as a musician I enjoy finding out the pros are actually human and hearing the live mistakes. Evidently Steve and crew are above human...not a musical mistake there and only one lyrical omission that I heard. The guy at merch was super cool...the whole thing was a class act and refreshing after so many "major productions" where huge production companies have their hand in your pocket the whole time. Every fan there was respectful, conversational (when appropriate) and civil. Tour staff was great. The venue relaxed and was better than ever for this show.

We saw Steve last Sept. At the Roots n blues festival in Columbia. They were great but did a short set because of time restraints. This show was much longer (2 + hours) and although there were Some sound problems at first they rocked us all with great classics like copperhead road and guitar town along with newer stuff (and that's a good thing too!) They do a lot from the low highway which is a great album. Steve seemed to enjoy the show and it came through in the performance of Steve and the Dukes. He always seems to be so in touch with the audience and his songs resonate with the common man and woman. Definitely one of the best songwriters of all times. Fantastic show that included I believe 28 tunes and the banter between those songs was great too. Thank you Steve, keep doing what you do so well. We all love it!

Glad to have heard the Mastersons for the first time! They were terrific. Steve and the Dukes played a nice mix of his oldies and the new CD. The banter was funny and moving at times! I would recommend these artists and this venue!

I read a recent review in the Seattle TImes about Steve's latest album, I listen to a few track and liked what I herd and saw that he was coming to town! I was excited to listen to some good music and take in the Neptune, which oddly enough after 50 years in this town I had never been to. The music was pretty good, I could see listening to more of it. But as far as the show went I was less than happy with experience. The show was mostly GA and seating is very limited so we ended up having to stand and finally got tired of that and sat on the concrete floor. The entire theater is mostly concrete and hard surfaces so the acoustics sucked. Steve and the Band seemed less than excited and the energy was really not there. Lastly we got to listen to some political banter from Steve and really would rather not listen to that when I'm out to have fun. All in all, buy the new album but listen to it at home.

Steve Earle was fantastic. We had seats in the upper balcony and sound was pretty bad. The venue has a lot of room for improvement. No place to sit before or during the show if you want a break, drink or restroom. No real food option. Great sound on the bottom level. Remember if a band can get people on their feet, be ready to stand!

We have enjoyed a number of Steve's performances at the Birchmere, but this was the most sophisticated, gritty event yet. His songwritng is rich, his persona authentic. Loved it.

Great concert! The Mastersons, a married duo, performed for a half hour, with exceptional singing and great fiddle/guitar skills. They were total workhorses because, after a 30 minute intermission, they came back with Steve as full-fledged members of the Dukes. The whole ensemble performed for the next 2:15 in an excellent, well-paced show. Steve did "Guitar Town," "Copperhead Road," and a lot of other of his older material, and also a lot of his newer songs. In the past, I felt like Steve hadn't quite figured out how to fit the Mastersons into the show. Not a problem anymore, because now it's hard for me to imagine the group without them. A very, very satisfying show.
