Well for being the first show EVER for HTDA I must admit I was highly impressed. I was not sure how the band would sound live. Mariqueen sounded great, Trent ripped it on guitar and the stage show was out of this world. Definitely a pleasure to be able to see the performance before they unleashed their sets at Coachella.

Visually and audibly stunning, How To Destroy Angels put on the BEST show I've ever seen... And I've seen A LOT of shows :-) Mariqueen is a goddess and Trent and the guys are phenomenal artists (as is she). Can't wait to see them again!!!

I always love seeing Trent play. On a NIN tour I will go to multiple shows. However, with HDA I felt once was enough. Its the equivilent of bringing your significant other to work and having your customers pay the same rate even though they lack the talent, skills, and experience that you might have or vice versa. Mariqueen isnt bad in fact she decent......she's just not not Trent. As for the light show. It better looking from a further distance. If that is what you are into, I highlly suggest not standing up close.

I thought the opening act (DIIV) was a terrible choice. I felt like I was watching some kids practicing in their garage in Seattle. Luckily, How to Destory Angels completely made up for it. The stage/screens were amazing! I felt like I was watching live art. The band sounded perfect. Mariqueen and Trent's voices were perfect. This concert exceeded my expectations.

If you are only interested in seeing Trent Reznor then I suggest you wait until he decides to do a Nine Inch Nails tour, as Mariqueen is mostly the center of attention in this show. However, most of the time the band is just silhouettes shadowed by a fuzzy tv-type background and foreground. The show is definitely entertaining musically and visually. I highly recommend it.

The FOX theater is a nice, smaller place. I was on floor Stage-Left. HTDA really came through on stage. The stage effects were awesome! Lights, Sound, Action was really engaging. Mariqueen was a hauntingly beautiful singer. Trent was a great wingman. His presents was noticed but he eased back to not steal the spot light. For the first concert tour this was true to the HTDA sound and vibe. If you even ljust like the albums youll love the show. Very enjoyable. All in All. HTDA is a Jewel in Tents crown of thorns. But Mariqueen is truely Diamond that shines....Device2000

Simply a perfect experience. Nice small venue to feel very intimate and played at a volume level that let you actually enjoy it. Trent has it 'nailed'.

The lighting effects were so mind blowing! They were constantly changing, you could tell that Trent and Rob put a lot of effort into it. The set was great, they probably played about 13 songs, the past 3 being from an encore. Great sound, right amount of bass for their songs. I was just lucky to be one of the first to experience it, since this was their first show ever. I highly recommend seeing them!

This was the inaugural live performance for Trent Reznor's project with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, musical collaborator, Atticus Ross, and graphic designer extraordinaire, Rob Sheridan. Rounding out the live band was Alessandro Cortini, also a member of nine inch nails' live band, on bass and keys. First and foremost, you want to see the light show. Trent and Rob really work hard to make the presentation unique and interesting. The stage was outfitted with several panels of rope-like screen which displayed visuals as well as reflected lights. It must be seen to truly grasp what all they did but it was awesome, nonetheless. Now for the actual music: HDA is much more controlled, musically, than nine inch nails live. Let's be honest, people are automatically going to compare them to nin so might as well use that for comparison's sake. HDA has Trent's sound written all over it. However, this is a good thing as most of HDA's material is much better than the last few nine inch nails albums. Since the majority of HDA's output is electronic, there is less room for human error. That does not mean it sounds like karaoke either. Many of the songs had certain sounds punched up or down in the mix for the live performance as well as some new sounds added in. On a personal level, I already enjoyed their out put, especially their first ep, but the show made me want to seek out the rest of their small body of work. Go if you like Trent's work, go if you want to see an amazing light show, go if you want to believe that Mariqueen can actual sing (She can), and most of all, go to see a good band.

This was the most monotone, boring show I've ever seen. The lead singer isn't necessarily a bad singer, but has no flair or anything special! BORING BORING The NIN fans were there to support Trent Reznor of course, but rather than musicians it sounded like his Yoko, I mean wife, took over the studio. BORING! Waste of time and money.

Being quite a devout fan of NIN for quite sometime(I am old here..), I was on the fence for awhile about Reznor's project with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig Reznor(also formerly of West Indian Girl). I liked the RP, but wasn't really sold. I've always been rather picky when it comes to female vocalists, so I usually stay within my comfort zone(a la Siouxsie, Grimes, Austra, etc...) When "Welcome Oblivion" was first played for me by a good friend, I was FLOORED. It wasn't until I saw live footage from Coachella, that I knew I needed to see HTDA for myself and really formulate my own opinion. I guess I am a self proclaimed musical snob. There. The show was phenomenal. Mariqueen's voice sounds 10 times better then on recordings(usually, it's the opposite these days), and Trent still rocks out like he's onstage with NIN, even though he's a bit Abercrombie these days. Watching the two of them was quite a sight, as there is no doubt that they have a undeniable chemistry. The other musicians were of course on point and flawless in their musical execution, and the highlight of the show for me was dancing my butt off to "BBB"(big black boots), which is just Infectious and I credibly reminiscent of mid 90's NIN in sound for sure. Amazing show all and all, and I of course would see them again.

Simply put, the best show I've seen. Besides the fact that their music is insanely good, the visual effects made the whole experience unforgettable. I will pay to see them again. I recommend to get closer seats to properly see the effects. Well done HTDA, you are the best band of the decade!

How To Destroy Angels, or HTDA_, is a reasonably new act consisting of Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, his wife Mariqueen on lead vocals, co-conspirator Atticus Ross (originally working with Trent on The Social Network OST) and graphic designer/art/visuals director Rob Sheridan. Joined with them for this tour was Trent's close friend and NIN collaborator/performer Alessandro Cortini. A video was released that documents HTDA_'s collaboration, where each track starts out differently and each member of the band brings something unique to each track. This results in an interesting blend of sounds that varies from song to song but contributes to a great overall sound. You can hear where each band member is shining through at various points throughout the album and live show. Added as a live element is a very awesome visual display that places the band between a video display in the rear and translucent curtains that are projected onto/through in the front, the idea being that the band is a sort of "art installation". At certain points throughout the show the curtains move and allow you to get different views of the performers. There is appropriate glitch art and incredible lighting to match the mood of the show. The band performance was absolutely stellar. Many fans came to the show not knowing (or wanting to know) what to expect and be surprised. What we ended up with was NOT NIN. It's important for people attending this show to know it was not supposed to be NIN, either. Sure, you can hear Trent's musical influence shine through this, but there's more to it than that. Rob Sheridan live-controls in-sync music visuals that correspond with each of the musicians on stage and everyone gets a piece of the spotlight. Mariqueen's voice compliments the music extremely well. The tour is over, but there are a few HTDA shows later in the year, and I would highly recommend checking them out then or if/when they tour again. It's different, but different is good!

This was an amazing show. The visuals we're phenomenal and stage set was crazy! Very little filler... it was song after song after song... basically all business until Mariqueen introduced the band 2/3 of the way through, thanked the opening Act and then later when Trent Reznor thanked the crowd and his band mates for sharing the stage. One thing to note to any die hard Nine Inch Nails fans... THIS IS NOT A NINE INCH NAILS SHOW. Someone sitting behind me before the show mentioned to another person that Nine Inch Nails is performing tonight... and the guy next to him said that NIN was not performing, but How To Destroy Angels is the same type of music as NIN. That is not rue. The closest this band sounds to NIN is maybe from Ghosts I-IV. It is very melodic, sometimes leaning towards chaotic, but never fully piquing to that rage factor. So I'd suggest hearing at least a few How To Destroy Angels songs before buying tickets and seeing if it's for you or not. Again, an extremely solid show visually and amazing to see them at the Apollo theater... but my one critique would have to be that because of the such heavy bass in most songs, it drowned out a ton of the musical accents and even Mariqueen's vocals throughout most of the show. If I didn't already know the songs, I'd have no clue what she was saying... which is sad, but overall a positive experience.

I have not read any other reviews yet but the entire experience was just fantastic! The music, singing, lights, and visual displays were more than I ever imagined, and I had seen them on HDTA's website! I was pumped for Trent and his friends but EVERYTHING was just so perfectly done. My wife was not excited but after the show she was quick to talk about how over the top the entire performance was. This was the best visual show I've ever seen and Trent and his wife's vocals were 5 stars and then some!

I knew very well what I was going to see, but I had a small bit of hope that maybe the group would break into a NIN song or two. But - no. They held steadfastly to the HDA playlist. Regardless, it was great to see Atticus Ross again and to hear Trent's voice. As in the NIN days, they used awesome lighting effects. It makes me realize how truly great the final NIN concerts were (which I did know at the time). I'm glad I was there.

One of the most memorable, beautifully designed sets I've ever had the pleasure to attend. Fans of Trent Reznor and NIN flocked to the show (myself included) but once the show started, I was ecstatic to see that we were in for a treat. The music and the sound quality were definitely top-notch (we wouldn't have expected anything less) but oh boy, those lights and projections really turned it into a spectacular event. I would've loved to have been able to see them at Coachella (they went all out from the YouTube vids Ive seen) but this intimate setting really suited the mood of their sound.

I was a little disappointed to see the theatre was at about 60% capacity as a legend was preparing to take to the stage in such an intimate venue. From what I could tell this was their 3rd live show and a show it was indeed. One thing Trent Reznor is good at is reinventing his live act whether with HDA or NIN; the visuals and light show were unlike anything I've ever seen. The beaded panels that the band played behind ( about half the show) along with the projections/colors etc were a perfect compliment to the ambient electronic noise the band produced. Almost was like watching a modern version of Kraftwerk with a female lead singer . . . what a sight, both the band and girl. I won't hesitate to see HDA live again, just an awesome show and a great sound.
