I thought the play was excellent. It gave my a look at Ernies passed and what kind of man he really was. He was one of the good guys, mentioned his love of Jesus, his family, and Detroit.

It felt like Ernie Harwell was right there talking to us about his life. I cried during and after the performance, but laughed too. It was well worth the 20 bucks and yep I had front row seats...on the side. There was no bad seat in the house!! Would see it again and again!!

Ernie was a well written and well told play. Very interesting, even to me, a non-sport lover. Highly recommend anyone who has any memories of him to go see it. Even if you don't know who he was, like my brother's girlfriend, it's worth seeing. He lived an interesting life and a good life, which is so rare these days. The way he refers to his wife was refreshing to see.

I was sort of ho-hum about seeing this play. My wife (not a sports fan) came home the other day suggesting we go based on the comments of one of her friends. We bought tickets to go that same night. The friend was spot on. This was one the best plays I have ever seen. It's definitely a MUST SEE for any Tiger fan or Tiger fan want to be. Don't miss it.

I saw the very first preview performance on 4/22 - This play was truly heartwarming. Baseball fans will LOVE this play (my boyfriend wants to go again).. but even those who have never been to a game will get caught up in the story. Baseball history is laced with a story of a great man who had a passion for the game. The small intimidate venue is the perfect place to bring the story to life. I have recommended this to tons of people it is really a must see!

The actor playing Ernie was spot on. The actor playing the boy needs to tone his exuberance down! I was a little bit disappointed in the format of this play. Lets face it, it's hard to do a short biography of a great person like Ernie and try to make it entertaining.

My wife and I are old enough to remember and be fans of Ernie. We were heartbroken when he was fired by the Tigers and SO happy when they were forced to bring him back. The play is informative, telling snippets of his life with candor and warmth. The two actors accurately portray a humble, simple, honest man who broght baseball to life - and still would if he were still here - even more than TV today can ever do. On a side note, my wife's mom was blind and she saw the games he announced clearly. She had a fantastic memory and could often remember and retell some of the anecdotes Ernie would mention during a game. Brought back a lot of happy memories.

This was my second time seeing this play on opening night at the City Theater. A must see for the sports enthusiast and definitely every Tiger Fan. Will Young and TJ Corbett do an excellent job. Will Young plays the role of Ernie Harwell as if he were actually him and TJ Corbett as the Boy character with his energy and enthusiasm talking and learning from Ernie played by Will Young. City Theater a very intimate theater was a great place to have the play. Thanks to Mitch for writing such a great play with it's stories and nostalgia included for people to enjoy during the baseball season. I am glad it's in its third successful season and I am sure it would be an asset for the play to come back again if everyone especially the characters want to keep doing it. There was a talk back with Mitch, Tony Cassini, and Will Young and TJ Corbett after the play. Included are a couple of pictures and a very short video.

I grew up with Ernie's voice in the background of many summer days as my dad listened to the Tigers on WJR. My husband and I laughed, cried and remembered during the performance. What a fantastic show for the Ernie Harwell and/or any true baseball fan. We are huge Tiger fans and loved the show from start to finish. This is my 2nd time seeing the play. We took my in-laws this time. If you are a real baseball fan (and you grew up in Metro Detroit) this will bring back a lot of great memories. Ernie was an ambassador and a man who understood his role in the game. His humility gave him the right perspective to be the greatest radio broadcaster in history (personal opinion). The play takes you from the 1920's all the way to the end of Ernie's career. If you're a Tiger fan, see it.

Born in 1988, I was on the tail-end of Ernie's reign in Detroit. I took my parents, sister, and brother-in-law to the show. I wasn't sure how it would go. It was beyond any expectations I could have had. I loved the story and learned so much about Ernie's life. I was brought to tears (multiple times). This show has left a lasting impression on me, and also a greater love for Ernie and the game of baseball. I recommend anyone over the age of 10 go and see this play. Just a two man play Ernie was acted flawlessly. The lead played Ernie Harwell quite well without it seeming to be a parody. He had some of Ernie's mannerisms and a similar accent, but it seemed natural and not put on. The "boy" was very talented and gave a good performance. He may however, after the fifth year of this run have outgrown the role.

My husband and I saw "Ernie" on July 16th. Wa thought the show was fantastic! Tha actor playing Ernie Harwell looked and sounded just like him, he was really amazingly! I think anyone that might be 40 or older would really appreciate the play. It brought back many memories of my childhood when we would listen to ball games in the summertime on our transistor radios. Ernie Harwell made you feel as if you were right at the game. He is truly a legend and is missed greatly.

If you were a Tiger fan growing up, you knew about Ernie her well. This play, the longest running play in Michigan history, is an absolute gem. Don't miss the opportunity to see Ernie before it is loooooooooon gone!

My husband, son and I have been wanting to attend "Ernie" for the past two or three years. We had complications with our schedule at the last minute, but the ticketing agent was able to change the time of our performance (otherwise our son could not go). We were so pleased with the arrangements and the play was wonderful!

My husband and I grew up listening to Ernie. We loved the play and all the memories it brought back. We learned a lot, laughed a lot , and have an even greater respect and admiration for Mr. Harwell. The cast was wonderful. We felt like it was really Ernie on stage.

Excellent! I enjoyed one of the best performances I've seen. Paul Carey captured the voice and spirit of Ernie. TJ brought enthusiasm and a touch of mystery to his performance. They have excellent chemistry. The use of video to enhance historic moments was a wonderful way to support the story. There was some confusion coming into the theater, but once seated, the magic began.

I have seen this play a few years ago in Detroit and LOVED it - so I bought my sister and her husband tickets for their anniversary - and they LOVED it as well. We grew up listening to Ernie as children - so it brought back many memories growing up. We both cried!

LOVED the play ERNIE. I grew up listening to his great coverages of Tiger games; could see the game thru his voice. always enjoyed his anecdotal comments! The play gave so many explanations & stories behind the voice of The Tigers. Actor who reprised Ernie Harwell was superb. The boy was a little exaggerated at times! The production was an excellent way of telling Ernie's story.

I am telling everyone to go see "Ernie" before it leaves Detroit. I bought tickets as a b-day gift for my husband. I figured I'd 'have to go' with him and would try to enjoy the event. Thinking it was a sports related event, I wasn't that engaged - until Ernie walked on stage. OMG. From the first thunderous moment I was captivated. We will go see it next year. It is phenominal. Enjoyable for everyone except children. This is not for kids. Not that there is bad language or anything obscene; it's just not a show for kids. Love, love, love it. Laughter, tears - the whole gammit. GO SEE IT!
