Yonder Mountain String Band

Yonder Mountain String Band

YONDER MOUNTAIN STRING BAND IN CONCERT:Yonder Mountain String Band has been a beloved source of boot-stomping, barn-burning bluegrass music ever since its inception in the late '90s. At their live shows the group peppers their progressive bluegrass numbers with improvisational flourishes reminiscent of jam bands like Phish, making for a rollicking concert experience that's never short on surprises. Original mandolin player Jeff Austin is no longer with the band but founding members Dave Johnston (banjo), Adam Aijala (guitar), and Ben Kaufman (bass) are still as sharp as ever, enlisting the help of a talented array of additional instrumentalists at their live shows. Whether they're fingerpicking their way through originals like "All the Time" or offering up creative covers of classics like "Jolene", Yonder Mountain String Band always delivers an authentic bluegrass experience anchored in stellar musicianship and no-frills fun.

Incredible show featuring their music and numerous great covers (I've Got a Name, I Know You Rider, Stop Making Sense and For What It's Worth). I've seen them in Knoxville the past 3 years about this time of the year and they have gotten better each time. Seemed to feature what I would call "Blue Grass Space" during some of the extended jams. Maybe some Grateful Dead influence there. I was in row D in the left orchestra at the end and had a bit of an obstructed view (seat 6) but the sound was good and not overpowering.

This show was amazing, best YMSB show I've been to yet. Xavier Rudd played a great opener that got everyone on the rocks groovin'. Yonder followed with a fantastic show which consisted of both classic as well as some of their new songs ( with no drum set! like their new album) some of which lasted 20 min+ of insane jamming!! The guys were hilarious and the atmosphere was something everyone there was grateful to be apart of. Overall a really incredible show that will have me going to as many more shows as I can!

With Xavier Rudd opening, the mood was set early. The dancing started early, and Xavier played a stellar jam with the didgeridoos toward the end of his set. YMSB kicked off with some classics getting the crowd into it right off the bat. They worked in new material throughout the show as well as working in some jams. They were certainly into the show and the venue and played a stellar concert.

Younder Mountain never disappoints and this time was no exception. Too bad the lightning ended the show early, but at least they got to play as long as the did. Jeff Austin's skills are unmatched!! Can't wait to see them again....and again....

The group was outstanding and really seemed into it as was the crowd. The outdoor setting at the Zoo Amphitheater was fabulous ---looking out at the water. Unfortunately that was the problem--rain. The band was playing through it but then the lightning started and they had to cut it off at that point. But they were excellent. Definitely worth seeing and worth traveling to see. Looking forward to their new release on Sept 1.

Yonder played a fantastic show at an amazing venue. The crowd was loving it, and everyone was grooving. Unfortunately the weather blew in and cut the show off after about 4 songs into the second set. Jeff Austin stayed out for awhile and hung out with the crowd \u2014 no doubt they would've come back and played their hearts out if they could have.

I must admit that I actually bought the tickets to see Xavier Rudd, who wasn't able to make it. Not being super familiar with Yonder Mountain, I was hoping for the best and they far exceeded my expectations... in fact this was the best show I've seen in years! These guys really know how to jam. Despite the rain and a longer setlist that originally anticipated, Yonder Mountain String Band has what it takes to turn a live performance into something magical. I'm looking forward to seeing them again.

Joan Osborne has a strong distinctive voice that can recreate the magic of all the old tunes. So many of the original artists have aged and lost their voice but Joan can recreate their wonderful songs. She should reunite with the Funk Brothers and do some concerts that can preserve these classics on a BluRay concert disc before these musicians are gone. Her own songs are good but its the old tunes that really get the crowd excited. There is a tremendous potential to bring this music to the public if Joan performed on a national tour. Just don't wait too long, those "old guys" won't be around forever.

As always when Yonder brings there energized bluegrass jam band to town- we win! Not only do they hit their classics but they did a 20 minute tribute to MJ-complete with white glove. Nothing like a 3 hour aerobic dance session with a thousand of your friends. And the Peak is always a great venue for tailgating and the views are incredible from the deck.

G-Love and Special Sauce co-headlined the show and were well recieved. They played around 90min set. This was my first time seeing Yonder (of 7 shows) as a co-headliner and I was not impressed. They played a 115min subdued set that only included 12 tracks, 2 of which were sandwiched as 30min tracks! The band seemed uninspired and bored at times, purely phoning it in. They seem to have lost some of the fire present in the first two tours since Jeff left.

As always G Love and Special Sauce rolled thru Dallas with great tunes and great vibes! We got to do the VIP pre-show with just G playing acoustic and answering anyone's questions. It was truly a great experience. They played all the hits and some deep cuts as well. It really was a great show. Sorry they didn't headline as they usually do. We left before Yonder Mountain even took the stage... So I can't comment on them. But G Love was great as always.

Yonder Mountain String Band always kills it, and this venue did a great job of hosting. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the venue interior was up-to-date and clean. really exceptional talented musicians in their playing but not so much vocally. both bands had way too much volume for my taste. the opening band was more pleasant to listen to with less volume featuring each member at different times on each song and better vocals than the headliners. the sound level was ROCK level with horrible moving spotlights that affected the viewing of the band. I did not like having to stand throughout the night for almost over three hours. i left after three hours in the middle of the headlining band..the tickets listed 7 00 pm but people were arriving after six and being turned away on a very cold night to return to their vehichles as 700 pm was the door opening time not the show time. people were told 800pm was the show time but started late and had a long wait between bands with headliner starting about 930 pm. an excessive drinking standing party I would not describe as a concert.

Yonder Mountain String Band brought their usual high-energy bluegrass jam, and even outlasted a significant part of the crowd! I say crowd, because the venue was obviously oversold and the entire floor was so jam-packed there was barely room to breathe and certainly no room to move to the music. The crowd experience was more focused on jostling for position than enjoying the tunes, which is a shame when such masterful positive music is the point of the evening. There was also a disturbing amount of crowd noise throughout the show, as though a significant part of the audience spent the whole show trying to talk over the music. That's why I had to give the show 4 stars instead of 5; Yonder was brilliant, but the venue was bad enough to ocassionally distract from the show.

I bought my tickets months ago and was disappointed to hear one of the band would not be performing a few days before the show. But the guys blew away my fears with a most awesome and memorable show, featuring new stuff and some faves. Sorry I don't remember the GRAMMY winners they had opening and playing with them, but I would go see this show again and again, if I could. They had a jam that lasted about a half an hour, but showed no signs of weakening in either energy or quality of sound. I felt like I was in sync with the band. I recommend getting a download of any show you might attend. Sound was excellent. Plus, it was only ten bucks for about three hours of stomping music! I wish they would open a door to let some of the pot smoke out. I prefer to breathe plain air, not second hand smoke.

With every pluck and strum Yonder played an unforgettable New Year's show. They were on fire and the positive energy of the Pageant was almost overwhelming. Playing a wide range of their songs as well as John Hartford and Grateful Dead covers, they added a much needed flare to the last few hours of 2010. Every fan in the audience was happy and wearing a huge grin the whole night through. I can't think of any other way that I would have rather brought in the New Year than with Yonder Mountain String Band and the greatest group of music fans I have ever been fortunate enough to be a part of. YeeeeeeeHaw!!... Apparently they played too many songs to fit in the setlist text box so I just listed it below. Reading it gives me the chills. Set 1: Jesus On The Mainline> Polka On The Banjo> Jesus On The Mainline, New Deal Train, Deep Pockets, Althea, Gilpin Swing, Goodle Days> Up On The Hill Where They Did The Boogie> Dogs Set 2: On The Run> Part 1(Lord Only Knows)> Bolton Stretch> On The Run> High Cross Junction> Sometimes I've Won, Jail Song> Casualty> Things You're Selling> Boots> Catch A Criminal> I'd Like Off> Looking Back Over My Shoulder> Mother's Only Son> Finally Saw The Light> Mother's Only Son> The Road> On The Run Set 3: Peace Of Mind, Pockets, Ain't No Way Of Knowing, Brown Mountain Light, Countdown, Keep On Going> New Horizons> Dreams> New Horizons> Keep On Going, Someday's Reunion, Left Me In A Hole, Angel> Follow Me Down To The Riverside> Angel, E: Ooh La La, Another Day

I've been listening to Yonder for about 5 years now and this was the first time I was actually able to make a show. I regret not getting there years ago. They are amazing performers and have an uncanny ability to really connect with the audience on a very personal level. In the first set, the version of Complicated they they played was truly moving. I've never seen an entire concert hall hushed in disbelief, as they listened to the driving rhythm on the song. It was one of those experiences that you talk about 20 years after the show. I'll be at every Yonder show I can get to. If you've not seen these guys, your missing out. P.S. Yonder has replaced Ekoostic Hookah as my favorite band...

yonder put on another awesome show last night. they never fail to surprise & entertain me. they keep it fresh and up beat . truly one of the best live bands out there !!! from there covers of the dead and talking heads to there new stuff, always a fantastic treat. and Xaviera rudd . if you get a chance check this auzzie out . definably not your run of the mill opening act. nothing but good stuff from start to finish. and a free cd to boot!!!! NICE all at the "rocks" best place in the WORLD to see a show.

The first act, Southern Bells , a rock group was extremely loud. Never has the Keith Albee, which has great acoustics been so loud. Hoping for the best with Yonder we stayed. But the volume was too great for comfort. Left after 3 songs.

With this being my first Yonder concert, I was a bit disappointed to find out that Jeff Austin would not be playing. (I guess his child had just been born, so he had a good excuse.) Having said that, Ronnie McCoury of The Travelin' McCourys stepped in on mandolin, as did Jason Carter on the fiddle. Although it wasn't necessarily an "authentic" show without Austin, McCoury and Carter did a great job filling his void. The show had a couple great picking sessions, and a 20 minute tribute to Pink Floyd, all of which were simply amazing. All in all, a great concert for my first Yonder show.

Excellent show! One of the best I have witnessed in awhile. I am loving bluegrass more and more each day. It was nice to see Sam Bush perform with the band. I will try and make another YMSB show soon.

While I have only seen Yonder before in an outdoor festival setting, this particular event featured Sam Bush (Father of Newgrass), and some very intricate, mind blowing picking. Because of the more intimate setting, I feel concert goers, perhaps, focused more on the musicianship because of the lack of the festival "vibe." But, Same Old River, same old Kinfolk...a great time was had by all.

My husband and I have been seeing Yonder as far back as we can remember. They always put on an amazing show. I couldn't have imagined a better show and especially one to spend with my loved ones on valentines day! And seeing Sam Bush play was so awesome!

Yonder Mountain rocked the crowd with their unique rock n roll interpretation of bluegrass...incredible covers of a couple of Grateful Dead tunes as well as a Neil Young song...they play their hearts out for an incredible 3+ hours.
