Only downside to the event was the weather didn't hold up until after the headliners. Show had to be shut down causing everyone to miss the headliners which included dave chappelle, 2 chainz and brandy...

First time attending the Picnic and it was awesome, had a great time. Noname was dope, Thundercat was jamming, Jeezy was hype, Solange was elegant, Wayne was a no-show, and the homie Thought had bars ALL DAY. But the highlight was Pharrell and The Roots turning their set into a N.E.R.D. show and it was epic! They basically did 70% of the first N.E.R.D. album with some Pharrell/Neptunes classics in between. Awesome show, save me a seat at the next picnic

Had a blast! Loved all of the acts. This was my first year attending. The VIP lounge was great, with many Philly snacks and clean bathrooms in trailers. VIP access to the stages was awesome. Looking forward to going back next year.

I go every year, never disappointed. A great line-up of up and coming as well as established artists. Also, the crowd is very diverse - great place to meet people you may normally not interact with. If you haven't been to a roots picnic, you're definitely missing out.

The dj sets were good, but the live performance needed a lot of work... Seems like they went on the cheap for stage equipment... The audio went out too many times for a concert... It would have been nice to have a schedule of when the bands would play... But the vibe was great!!!

Many scheduled acts never played including the headliner, Kid Cudi. I bought tickets because he was scheduled to play and drove several hours to get too and from the show.

I was actually not super impressed with the venue or structure -- didn't feel much like a picnic, but just a music festival. They had sound problems after the rain storm, and in general, in between acts, when Amanda Diva was MC'ing the interludes, she had trouble communicating with the sound guy to get her music loud enough. The acts were hit or miss. I like Jessi Teitch; I could have done without Major Lazer. However, really, none of that mattered. Rakim took off his coat, cleared his throat, his rhyme was kicking til he hit his last note. He was totally on point and the Roots were tight behind him. He and Black Thought had great interplay. And The Roots' set after that was fantastic as always. (Personally, I'm glad Kid Cudi couldn't make it; I'd take another Roots set over Cudi any day.)

Kid cudi was the feature and the main reason people paid the ticket. A refurb or reimbursement should be given automatically as he (as acknowledged on stage by the roots) had a weak excuse for failing to show. He could have made it in weather was brief and others made it in easily.

What can I say? Rakim and Black Thought ripped it. Even though the rain made for things being a little crazy (affected the PA system), the Roots were on their A game as usual. It was great seeing Rakim do his thing, and even though Kid Cudi didn't show up, I was happy to see Rakim and the Roots do their thing. And, of course, Freeway came through to do his thing which was fun. Overall, a good time. Oh yeah, that DJ, Diplo, did have a memorable set!

I was highly dissapointed in this concert. I waited all day for Kid Cudi to perform and he was a no show. The weather was rainy with thumderstorms and so we were all forced in a small tent, it was way overcrowded and uncomfortable. Kid Cudi was a major headliner and everyone was upset he didn't show. I would like a refund.

Stood out in the pouring rain for hours to see Kid Cudi. Exerted a tremendous amount of effort making my way to the front row of the crowd. Accepted the fact that I would be a mess at 5:30 the next morning when I had to wake up for work. Spent money I didn't really have ($50 for the ticket and $14 for a drink there... $14!!!!). All to find out around 10 pm that the headliner wasn't going to be playing. In all fairness, Rakim rocked it and The Roots managed to take some of the edge off with an awesome extended performance.

I was really excited to see Kid Cudi but he did not come. We got stormed on heavily. These two things were both out of the control of The Roots but there wasn't much good I could say about that concert. I liked Rakim and Major Lazer but I paid my $50 to see Kid Cudi. I wish the day played out a little better than it did. Kind of pissed that I didn't get a refund though. They know 75% of people came to only see the cudder.

Kid Cudi didn't show up. And I specifically bought a ticket to see him. The artists were great in the meantime. I just wish I wouldve known earlier that Kid Cui wasnt performing becase they let us know at 10pm. I would go again, and instead of getting a one day pass, I would get a two day one. There were some awesome artists, despite the rain and thunder.

We went on Sunday, which of course probably wasn't as good as Saturday since the Roots had played on Saturday. We were appalled. It was very lightly attended, and most of the acts were simply DJs rather than live bands. Additionally, there were two stages about 150 yards apart, both competing sound-wise. One was outside, and one was in a tent, but it resulted in the loudest cacophony imaginable. What a total waste of time and money to go to this show.

Didn't get to see Roots or Chappelle due to weather! Main event/performance didn't happen until 9:15 PM -- yet they knew thunderstorms and severe weather was coming up. Feel like I got ripped off. Paid $91 for a ticket but only got to see about $35 worth of performance I cared to see!

I stood, yes stood in the heat for 9 hours to see Dave Chappelle and special guest, granted the other acts were great, but not the MAIN EVENT w/surprises!!! Damn Mother Nature and her lightening -_- the show got cut short 10 minutes into the main act! There probably won't be a make up show or partial refund, lesson learned! Suggestion: this event should be held in an indoor venue from no on...

This was advertised as a rain or shine event so we stood in the heat, rain & humidity all the way up to the main event which was then canceled. Don t advertise the event as rain or shine then cancel at the last minute. For all that the whole event should have been rescheduled. The weather was a known factor for about 2 weeks. If i would have known Dave Chappelle & 2 chainz were only going to be on stage for literally 2 minutes I wouldn t have wasted my time.

This concert was nice. I was glad to see so many artists that I love. The seating is a huge problem though. I feel like bench seating should be provided for eating in an area. The lineup was announced last minute - several artists were from the Governors Ball festival in NY which was happening on the same weekend (and from what I hear a MUCH better experience). So it seems they prob just pulled some last minute acts. Performances overlapped quite a bit and there was a lot of running around from stage to stage. Not a single decent place to sit. This place is sand and cement. Sitting on the sand would've been fine except it was just sooo packed there was really no room anywhere. We were expecting grass and some open spaces to lay out our blankets and rest. This is an all day event!! How do you not have seating space??! Drink and food prices were ridiculous, there weren't nearly enough food trucks and drink stands. The drink/bar line moved insanely slow and long, mainly because instead of carding at the entrance and giving 21+ wristbands they opted to card and give out wristbands at the door -- ridiculous. Oh and don't even get us started on the prices. Water was $5 for a small $7 for a large. They said you could bring an empty water bottle but there were NO water refilling stations in sight!!! This was a rain or shine event. We expected them to prepare for this a larger main tent/shelter, etc. But they didn't. Nearly everyone ended up soaked and the final performance was canceled. It was chaos getting out of there. Not sure if I'd bother with this festival again. It was disappointing.

Venue was nice but seemed as though there wasn't enough trash cans, there was a lot of trash laying around that people were tripping over. Also, once the show was cancelled for severe weather we were told we had to leave the premises in the pouring rain and not able to hold out to see if the rain would let up. Food was great although pricey as well as the alcohol. Rain or shine didn't apply as there was no alternate to the weather that ensued.

Was kinda nice except standing an hour and a half in line for beer (never happened to me. If you are in the age group of 30-40, and are not into using Mary Jane or smoking cigarettes, this event is not for you. The bathrooms (for the general public) were poorly maintained, the food selection was very limited for those of us who are health conscious, and the cancellation of the 9pm main event featuring The Roots, Dave Chappell and other guests was a total disappointment due to the rain. Not an event I will consider attending in the future.

Wondering if we will be receiving any refund for missing the most important part of the show. I drove hours from Washington D.C., paid for a hotel room, paid for transportation to and from venue (which was outrageously expensive) was thrown out into the rain into a city I know barely anything about, on top of paying for the tickets to the show. I would think if ticket master, Dave Chappell, 2 Chainz, Brandy, or any of the other "special guests" that we missed out on would be concerned with retaining some loyal fans, that they would offer some sort of compensation. Thanks for your time and consideration on this matter and I looking forward to hearing back.

My wife and I love the times we get to have at the Roots Picnic and they always bring great performers. This year seemed to be even better with most of the additions that we noticed since the one in 2015. A lot more food vendors, and port a potties, and a decent flow of events. I dont think 5 stages were needed but I understand wanting to cover all demographics. That kind of made it where you really had to choose who you wanted to see and miss out on a few of your favorites. Speaking of missing out on your favorites, I reallt wish we could have seen/heard brandy, 2 chainz and dave chappelle. That was a once in a lifetime line up for me bc I LOVE all three of them and i would never be able to see them on one bill again. Also, to find out that Common and Busta Rhymes was going to be there too! Man, Roots would have made so many headlines had they been able to pull that off. I look forward to future line ups.

I was so excited to go and see the roots, Dave Chappell and 2chainz at the roots picnic. I drove all the way from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania which is a 6 Hour Drive just for the show to cancel 10 min after I got there. The event was supposed to be rain or shine but they canceled it anyways due to the rain. The venue was also supposed to have a fast lane for guest to check in however there was only a single line for everybody and when I asked about the fast Lane the workers were unsure of what I was talking about and I paid an extra $10 to have this service. All In all, it sounded like fun but ended up being a terrible experience and waste of time.

I've been coming to the Roots Picnic for years (4-5 years) and the event has gotten bigger each year. I generally have a great time, but last year, Lil Wayne was the headliner and he was a no show. This year, the headliner was a combination of Dave Chappelle, 2Chainz and Brandy. We got heavy rains just as the main acts were coming out. Long story short, they cancelled the rest of the show and sent everyone home in the middle of the downpour. So, while I do have fun at the event, until they can straighten out their logistics, I don't think that I could recommend the show to anyone. The venue is fine.

Hey, I'm from Philly and go every year and I'm big Roots fan, so I'm going to have a good time. But for the average HipHop fan, this year was awesome. The live podcasts had Questlove, Phonte (who just walks around with the fans), Noreaga, 9th Wonder and many more. The drinks were easy to get, but food lines get too long when dinner time gets near (add more food trucks). And the performances! Rapsody and 9th Wonder were great! The Black Thought mixtape with J. Period, Jadakiss, Fabolous and Styles P were special! The Dipset reunion didn't have Juelz, but Cam'Ron held it down. Very cool DJ Drama had Freeway and T.I. in his set, those are big surprises. And there was headliners. I saw The Roots get their 30 minute opening set in before the lightening came, so when the show was cancelled, I was not mad at all, need to be safe. Besides, I already rocked for 10 hours. My highlight was meeting, talking to and take pictures with Rapsody and 9th Wonder. Let's do number 12 next year!!

I was so excited to spend time and hang with college friends and enjoyed the day. Was so happy that basically the weather held out but was really disappointed that the weather got so bad that they cut the concert short and the main headline did one song and they were out. I always look forward to the picnic every year and this year was no different. The start of the concert was great. Jada, Styles, Fab, and more. Honestly, even though Lil Wayne didn't show, the whole show turned out awesome! It was a little confusing when they had to adjust stages and times due to his no-show, but the weather was beautiful, the venue is clean until the end (lol) and the vendors are respectful from start to finish. The music is great, There is plenty to listen to even if you don't care for an artist- you can just catch another stage.

An amazing ensemble of eclectic performances around the music industry, The Roots Picnic will surly be a weekend I will forever remember. The Roots Picnic in NYC was incredible. The venue at Bryant park was amazing and the amount of artists who showed up to pay tribute to New York City was awe inspiring. All of the surprise guests making cameo appearances brought so much excitement to the crowd. Well worth the money. Would have liked to see the Wu Tang Clan perform longer, but I think no matter the length I would have been left wanting more. I would have also liked to be able to stand in the center of the park to view the show, but there was a pathway blocked off that was splitting the park that seemed to be going unused. The drinks were pricey but the food was great. Everyone working the venue was very nice and respectful.

Event and line-up was great. Common was by far the best of the night and his freestyle rap was one to be seen by all (try to find it on YouTube). It was also good to see John Myer and D'angelo. There was great energy throughout the day and the volunteers were informative and helpful. My only complaint was that there was not enough vegetarian food options. I hope that next year's event has more healthy food options.

As far as music goes, the Roots Picnic is great. Three stages, 45 minute sets, and a good mix of performers. Everything negative I have to say has to do with the crap-hole that is Festival Pier. Worst of all, the organization of the physical space at Festival Pier is atrocious. The main stage and tertiary stage are far too close together. The result is colossal traffic jams and crowds as people attempt to move throughout the venue. The secondary stage was great however, to get there you need to tip toe through other concert goers who are sitting on the ground in the cool down tent. Reorganizing Festival Pier to allow patrons to move around the venue would significantly improve the experience. Festival Pier is, essentially, a giant garbage dump. A lack of garbage cans and receptacles for recyclables leads to garbage being strewn across the grounds. Overpriced food is to be expected however, the lines are incredibly long throughout the day.

Why is it called Roots Picnic if you are not allowed to bring food or drinks? A small section tried to use blankets but that didn't last very long. There were so many people! It was definitely an oversold event for the limited space. People had to wait hours in the food truck lines, there were not many beverage options. (Only beer and water). Limited amount of food trucks also. Not many vendors either. Mainly local philly t-shirt designers. I was hoping for more vendors selling jewelry, art, oils, etc. I would not come back again.

I flew in from Texas for my second Roots Picnic and my best friend flew in from Oakland. It rained during the main act of the night, the reason we bought tickets for the festival, only for it to be canceled 10 minutes into the main act. The site claimed the show would go on regardless of rain. The venue, Live Nation, and management should have prepared better and planned a Plan B due to rain. We witnessed Yondr attempt to bag phones per Dave Chappelle's phone policy and they were unsuccessful in doing so. This proves protocol and plans were not in place. We expect reimbursement for this disappointing cancelation.

This will be my last year attending the Roots festival. For it to be associated with the Roots, you would expect better vendors and experience. Every Live Nation event I've attended has been lackluster. The event was rained out so the main show that most concert goers paid for, we did not get to experience. Poor restrooms, no variety/poor quality of food trucks or vendors, low amounts of water/charging stations for amount of guests, etc; are some concerns. Don't waste your money traveling out of state, I see why many of my friends from Philly don't attend.

The venue itself is not bad but a storm camethat ruined the night when the headliners canceled. They were the only reason I bought tickets and I didn't get to see them. They could've gone on earlier for the fans. Boo Roots Picnic 2018...

I am very disappointed and how things were handled at the roots picnic on June 2, 2018. The tickets specifically said rain or shine. During the main act it began to rain. First, the main acted started late. It took them a whole hour to set things up and get the mic check working correctly. Second, during the performance it began to rain. Third, after The Roots performed a part of their act if began to rain heavily. Then on the loud speaker someone said they had to wait to see if they could continue. Then 15 minutes later they cancel the main act. It only rained 30 minutes more after the show was cancelled. This could've been handled differently I feel like they just took my money. VIP was not great at all. Only thing that was convenient was clean rest rooms. Also during the rain the VIP area was flooded you honestly could not tell the difference from general admission and VIP. With VIP you would think more would be included such as drink specials fans comfortable seating and up front seating. I advise people not to waste your money on this poorly planned event especially paying for VIP.

The lineup was amazing the venue was OK. The Eve it did not deliver on a couple of things. This site kept stating eclectic food and that was not the case; beer was $15 water seven dollars!??; And then to constantly promote that it s an all weather event and or rain or shine event was not true. You all needed a back up plan. Also you should allow lawn chairs if we have to stand for 12 hours.

The whole day was great, until it was time for The Roots to perform. It started raining like cats and dogs and 15 min into the concert it got cancelled. I think they should do some type of refund or discount if you come next year. Everyone was waiting on The Roots which they did not get to see.

Overall I enjoyed the festival. My biggest critique would be the panels. Get rid of them and bring more artists like in previous years.

Over all the roots picnic was good. However, due to forecast the performances should have been pushed up. If this event is rain or shine. Preparation should have been made for this event. The main event was cancelled, which annoyed tons of people. Be more prepared next year!

I have enjoyed this event every year, but will now have to reconsider ever doing this again. Although it's a rain or shine event, the headliner (and may reason for getting tickets) was cancelled due to poor weather. I understand a full refund should not be expected, but I have seen nothing from Ticketmaster regarding discounts or something for a future event that would at least be a nice gesture.

I like music festivals. For the artists performing I would go again. The venue is not large enough for the crowd that is my only complaint

It was my first time attending & given the name I expected grassy areas to relax (vs. paved/sandy areas). Would love to see more vendors there. More garbage cans are needed as there was a lot of trash on the ground. Crowd was cool and the sound on each stage was great, so no complaints there.

The lineup was awesome. They seemed to have some tech problems though. Mics werent working at times. The main act got rained out. Dave Chappelle and 2Chainz were out on stage for like 2 mins and then had to shut it down. Not their fault but people should get some type of refund. That final set was the main reason I went. The venue is always a mess. They need to get volunteers to walk around and pick up the trash during the festival. They over charge for water.

The Roots, Dave Chapelle, 2 chainz and their special guest were the only reasons I bought tickets to this. They were cancelled and no partial refund or reschedule has been offered.

The artists were dope. The merchandise was horrible. $75 for a t shirt. The Jazz Fest did an impeccable job. They should mimic. The premium drink was bicardi. You re basically buying the bottle for one drink. And it was rained out. We flew in to see Dave Chappelle. They came out late, and he said two lines. We were sent home. Fans were just briskly removed. All that money down the drain. And we bought insurance. And the fast lane was pointless. Smh. I d go again, but do things differently.

I didn t like how they have the popular acts spread out. You couldn t leave and come back in if you decided to leave in between the acts you wanted to see. The event was not how I imagined. It is not one stage and people are performing, it is 5 stages with various artists and acts on different stages. Dave Chappell and 2 Chainz did not come out until the end of the picnic with a stage time of 9:15-9:30pm. If you wanted to see him and Goldlink you would have to wait 5+ hours to see them and again, you can t leave in come back. If they allowed reentry I feel like my experience would have been better.

The festival was ok except the rain was an issue. But we know this was out of their control. Didn t get to see the headline show because of the down pour. Diplomats was also a one man show with Camron?? The special guests were definitely amazing though! More food vendors would have been nice.

The Roots Picnic was cool while it lasted. It ended up getting shut down the final set which was disheartening because we didn t get the full Roots Jam Session nor did we see Chappelle, Brandy or 2 Chainz. I hope next time if they know the weather will be be bad they make the necessary set time changes so that everyone can enjoy the full experience and get their money s worth.

2017 marks my second time attending The Roots Picnic. I attended in 2015, and things were such a mess with crowding, long lines for food/restrooms and barely having room to move. I vowed to never attend again. Alas, I was lied to myself. I could not deny the opportunity to see Solange, Pharrell and Lil Wayne all at one event (kudos to all of the wonderful acts, but this is who I was most excited for). Entertainment wise, everyone was great! My gosh, Pharrell's set with The Roots was frigging mindblowing!!! We already know that Pharrell is a musical genius, but seeing this set made me love him 1000xs more! On to what most people will want to know about...dealing with the venue. I must say, that it was a big improvement from when I first attended in 2015. They added a 3rd stage and made use of more room. It didn't feel as paced as 2015, but nonetheless it was still hella people to deal with. You can enjoy chilling on your blanket for the early acts, but once the bigger names start hitting the stages, you can kiss your blankets goodbye. People will step and trample all over you and them in an attempt to get closer to the stage. A picnic, this is surely not. I wish they would get a bigger venue, or maybe a section for people that want to enjoy it picnic style. Expect to pay jacked up prices for mediocre food and drinks. That is expected at any concert for real. They let you bring in snacks in a 1 gallon ziploc bag, and having that definitely comes in handy when food lines get longer as the day progresses. Bring yourself some wipes and sanitizer for using the portapotties. Believe me, you WILL eventually have to use them. Unless you have some sort of super human bladder that can have you hold out for 6+ hours, or you say screw being thirsty and don't take not one gulp of a drink during the time there. lol Would I go back again? Probably not unless it was moved to somewhere bigger. I'm from DC, so I don't know what Philly has that would be more suffice. Walking from one stage to another during the bigger acts was like a big mob! (i.e., after Jeezy performed it was a mess getting through the crowd for the other stage with Solange. And then heading back to the other side to see Pharrell). I comment The Roots for doing this for 10 years. Would just really love a bigger spot where a true picnic type atmosphere can be enjoyed.
