Tennis is very cool slightly surf influenced pop fun. Alaina has a lovely vibrato that distinguishes her voice nicely. Patrick channels Duane Eddy with his spot on guitar riffs and rhythms. The lyrics can be surprisingly serious even slightly dark on some tunes but the melodies are a spoon full of sugar that makes the medicine go down. Great Scott isn't much of a venue but it is so small you get a great sense of intimacy.

I could care less about Tennis after this show. Pure Bathing Culture was incredible! It must be embarrassing for Alaina and Patrick of Tennis to have to go on after PBC every night and be shown up like that. To me they should have been the headliner for the show. There are only a handful of groups that are MUST SEE's when they come through Boston, but Sarah and Daniel of PBC make that short list. Thank you for coming through town and killing it (again) and giving this city a break from yet another Dropkick Murphy'and U2 tour.

The sound of the vocals was off two thirds of the concert (tech's fault) and when some people in the crowd mildly pointed it out, she responded with attitude asking them to get closer or right next to the monitor/speaker. The group (not us) was basically in front of her and there was no need for her attitude. Tech turned up her sound right after the song, but by then the event was pretty much over.

They were phenomenal-- I only know the last album, and they played a ton of that, but even the new stuff I didn't know was great. And they were so gracious and happy to be there.

Found this show to be extremely fun and had a nice West Coast, 1950s/vacation vibe to the music...crowd was swaying/dancing together by the end. I love this venue!

The venue was perfect, not too crowded which is always a plus. A couple of sound issues but was fixed once it happened. They didn't perform a few songs I was hoping for - but that goes with them promoting their new album. All in all great night!

I had some doubts about how they would be live, but they put on a great show. They could have played a longer encore though.

Tennis put on a pretty good show, playing a bulk of their 2 LP catalog. The whole show had a nice, summery pop feel to it. Unfortunately, Tennis doesn't have a very wide range, so some songs just started to sound the same by the end of the night. Luckily, their formula is catchy enough to keep you moving but damn I'd hate to be their drummer. I also wasn't a fan of the fact that Alaina Moore jumped out from behind the keys only when she clearly couldn't play the "harder" stuff and sing simultaneously--it was just so obvious it was a little bit of a let down. I hope in time they become more musicians by choice, rather than chance, and beef up their sound and perfect their instrumentation. Still a good show, considering. Note 1: Had I not seen Body Language at the Mercury after, I probably would be kinder, but that show was so engaging, it sort of blew Tennis out of the water by song 2. Note 2: I missed the first opener but the 2nd opener, Hospitality, put on a really good set with vocals similar to The Sundays or Cocteau Twins. Really interesting sound--I'd like to see them again.

Great live show, as per usual. This is my second time seeing Tennis. The first was from before they were popular and I had them all to myself. Not much has changed, except the size of their fan base, which is growing, and that's a good thing, because they deserve success. Great band, great show, great time.

I was sooo happy to finally be seeing Tennis perform! I would have preferred for them to just have one band before them instead of two, and see them go on at 10pm instead of 11pm.

Had not been to Bowery Ballroom in a while and had forgotten how much I love this venue. Tennis put on a fantastic show, and thought they were better live than on the album. Really enjoyed Hospitality as well.

Tennis puts on a great show. While they do lack a little bit of chatter on stage, they make up for banter with a full and rich sound. Their set included some tracks off their first album and all the gems off their current release. They also played a new unreleased song which was awesome.

Tennis' concert began a few minutes after nine pm, as the opening act --Hospitality-- took the stage. Hospitality is a great band, a great compliment to Tennis: alternative rock, but without the surfer-vibe. With strong drumbeats and deftly skilled use of their three guitars, Hospitality has the beat, but their vocals need work. The lyrics are fun and light, but also hard to hear over the instruments; the microphone was not the best and the lead singer's words took on a sharp whistle anytime the word included the letter "s." Tennis came on stage by ten fifteen pm. They were very gracious, warm, and excited to be performing for the crowd. If I remember correctly, the first song was "Deep in the Woods" from their new album "Young and Old" as well as their single EP "Origins." The band sounded great, and their style translated well to live performance. I had a great time listening to the music and I felt satisfied to experience their talent live on stage. I really admire Tennis, and I feel that they are truly talented performers--truly happy to share their music with their fans. I would recommend Tennis in Concert to any of their fans. The show is enjoyable and well done. That said, the performance --like any live perfomance-- was not perfect; their sound as a band is singular and I don't feel that this show would win over someone who isn't already a fan of their music.

tennis, just launching their first tour only 8 MONTHS after "becoming" a band, sure hit the nail on the head. there was some questionably gratuitous (and clearly last minute addition) back up cameo vocalizing by katy goodman of la sera and molly hamilton of widowspeak, but it ultimately didn't diminish the utterly charming and fresh energy of the show. the perplexing thing about the show was the lack of encore -- confounding, considering how excellent it was!
