They did a phenomenal job bringing all of the books to life. My niece enjoyed it so much she had a permanent smile on her face all the way home. It was wonderful to hear all the children joining in with the actors while they recited the books.

This I sent a great show! The puppets are beautiful and the music is complementary. Eric Carle s favorite stories are brought to life in a magical way. My children loved it.

We took our 3 1/2 year old grandson to this show and it was a delight for both him and us. The venue was a small theatre so that everyone has a great view. Upon entering, there was a coloring station for the children to color caterpillars and butterflies. The puppetry was amazing and the best part for us, as grandparents, was to see the joy in our grandson's face and to watch him participate in the recitation of familiar stories. He was entranced from beginning to end.

Play was ok and kept my four year old's attention. However, at the end they made an announcement that the kids could line up to take pictures with the catapillar. My son got all excited so we went down there -- plus they mentioned a few times there would be time for pic at the end of the play. Of course, when we get there they basically yelled at us and told us you needed to be a VIP to take a picture. We weren't vips (didn't even know it was an option) so the puppets left and my son and a bunch of other kids started crying. I get if they want to make more money with a VIP program, but don't get 4 year olds all excited and kick them out for reason they don't understand. It could've been handled much better and kinda ruined the whole experience.

Great show for toddlers and young kids. Length of the show was just right. The kids were really excited to ask questions and talk to the puppeteers after the show. Would go again. Great family event.

I took 3 3&4 year olds to the show. They loved it! Each "act" was just the right length. The original music made it lively. And they were very excited when the puppeteers came out after the show to tell about how they did things. They especially liked the "ninja puppeteer" mask.

My kids really enjoyed this show! It was a bit upsetting that other parents refused to keep their children quiet, so it was VERY difficult to hear at times.

This was a most enjoyable afternoon. The children loved it and the venue was clean. All the ushers were friendly and helpful. The presentation was the right length to hold even young ones' attention and the colors were wonderful. A great grandparent experience to share.

This was our first time attending the Orpheum and although we loved the theater, the performance was less then desirable. We took our 3.5 yr old and were very very disappointed. There were two adults sitting in front of us (we were row 10 center from the stage) so my son had to sit on my husbands lap and watch thru the gap between the two adults just to see the stage. The performance itself in my opinion was not intended for a 3.5 year old. I think a 7yr old may have appreciated it but our little guy was expecting more! The set and characters were small and at almost $20 a ticket the 45 min show was NOT worth it.

My daughter and I loved the show. I thought it was a great idea to show how the puppets and scenery was worked by the puppet masters after the show was over. Answered a lot of the questions my daughter, who is four, had asked me during the performance. We will definitely come back and see them again!

I took my 4- and 2-year-old daughters to see this show at 11 on a Saturday, and it was a very nice time out. The show was a perfect length -- 60 minutes -- and though it was quiet and slow, it held my girls' attention very well. The characters look just like they do in the books, but it's really special seeing them brought to life with motion and the narration. One of the three stories they told, The Mixed Up Chameleon, was totally new to us. But it became an instant favorite--and we bought the board book at Borders on our way home. The show is put on by just 2 performers and a stage manager from the Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia. I'll be looking for more from them in the future.

The show contained three stories, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", "Little Cloud" and "The Mixed-Up Chameleon". All were very well done, with captivating narration, colorful puppets and artwork true to the style of Mr. Carle. My kids had a great time with it and it was very enjoyable for me as well, to see the works we know so well brought to life in a new and interesting way.

This puppet show was really good! I took my 1 1/2 year old, thinking she might be a tad young for this, but she loved it! The show was geared towards the younger crowd- they actually encouraged the crowd to read along with the story if they knew it. My daughter clapped the entire time! The show itself was very nice, the puppets in the black light looked really cool! Highly recommended for young kids! The show lasted about an hour.

I have seen the Mermaid Theater of NS many times and will continue to seek them out for their amazing work in children's theater. Very Hungry Caterpillar was so wonderful that I encourage everyone to attend. The workmanship of the puppets and the performance was top notch as is the music and narration. At the end, the puppeteers take questions from the audience.

Took my granddaughter, almost 3, on Sunday. Small audience so not intimidating to little ones. Beautifully done with colorful actor-held puppets that look just unreal enough to not be frightening. She sat there with her mouth open until I closed it a few times and I got a bright smile every time. This from a child skeptical about going because she was frightened of the Sesame Street Show one year ago. No one told her Cookie Monster was really 6 foot tall! After Caterpillar, she proclaimed it \u2018best show ever! ..then said with a flip of her curls, I want to go again, but next time I want to pick out what I wear.

Well-designed sets and props, enthusiastic actors, soothing but appropriate music, and friendly staff. My kids aged 2 & 3 loved it, we ve been big fans of Brown Bear and the hungry Caterpillar, but the other two books that were read were also amusing. Good pacing, colorful animals and exaggerated gestures held their attention the entire time and it was the perfect duration overall for all kids in the audience. My son was literally cracking up,throughout the hungry caterpillar segment. Front row seats were a treat and not much more expensive than seats way in the back, so go that route if you can swing it for a much more intimate experience!

Dragged thru the first two stories. 4-year old granddaughter kept asking, "where is the caterpillar!" I did not know the cloud and chameleon stories were part of the show sho had not prepped her for them. Think the ad should include all three Carle stories.

I appreciated this show so much. My son is autistic and he struggles with social interactions, and this show was absolutely accommodating, no one shushed him, and he was able to express himself without judgement. And it so happens that the Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of his favorite books. So I appreciate the members of the show so much, because they really made his day, week, month and year. I was a wonderful surprise for him. Thanks again to the staff and performers of the Very Hungry Caterpillar show! You guys are rockstars!!

Want to introduce your child to the theater with familiar content but in a short burst? See this. Kids are welcome to recite the words to the titular piece (and they will) along with the actors on stage. Great puppets, great story, and there are autism-friendly shows. Downsides: no stroller parking and one bathroom.

The puppetry and acting were excellent! This is a wonderful opportunity for young children. The black box theater is comfortably small, and everyone can see (sitting on laps is allowed). I would recommend not bringing a stroller because cars can drop you off right in front or very near the entrance to the theater, and strollers must be stowed just inside. At the beginning when the tiny lights covering the ceiling dimmed, many children were apprehensive, but soon they were transfixed on the performance. Of course familiarity with Eric Carle's 4 stories will help children get the most excitement from the performance: Brown Bear, Brown Bear; 10 Little Rubber Ducks; The Very Lonely Firefly; and last, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. These are classics for good reason! Definitely go!

Overall a great experience, loved that it was smaller and intimate, just the right amount of time for a child. I d say around 18 months - 2.5 yrs. is ideal age given the simplicity of it. We really enjoyed!

It was our greatest delight as grandparents to watch our three-year-old granddaughter mesmerized by this show. Beautiful, colorful, non threatening paper like animal puppets play out stories by Eric Carle. The way the actors move in synch with the animal they are portraying is fascinating. We will go again

We purchased premium tickets. The tickets were a bit overpriced in my opinion. And I think all the kids should be given a chance to meet a puppet regardless of the type of ticket they purchased....BUT that aside...my son (19 months) loved every minute of it. He was clapping and yelling the names of the puppets and totally engaged. It was fun to see him light up. Overall I would do it again!

This puppet show was bare bones when it could ve been so much more. There is virtually no scenery and 3 actors waving stick puppets around. Children 5 and under will like it but any older will probably be bored. When it s done your child will want a caterpillar priced at $25 to round out your pocket emptying adventure.

We took our 4 year old daughter, and 2 year old son (who never sits still) to this event and they were both mesmerized. Our son was in heaven - shouting out every animal, character, object that came on stage and my daughter had a grin on her face throughout the entire show. Perfect length as well, about 50 minutes, for kids that age. Well worth the money and whatever effort it takes you to get there!!

My children enjoyed the play. It was very nice. But the price is a bit too much and I missed having booster seats for the children. We were on the last row and with the adults in front of us, my children could not see and both of them ended up on my lap. So, basically, we paid for three seats and used only one.

My & my friend's toddlers found the show riveting, captivating and fun. It was just under an hour and a perfect length for my 2.5 yr old. He talked about hungry caterpillar excitedly for days after... As a parent I wish they didn't push selling toys down our throats (when you walk in, first thing your kiddos see is an abundance of toys they immediately want). I brought his The Hungry Caterpillar book with us and was able to distract him. So unless you want a $25 toy, bring one from home. We didn't get VIP tickets and were asked to leave right after the main portion of the show while staff member named people who bought additional package and asked them to stay - so I cannot comment on after show portion.

My family of four attended this show about a week ago. We have a 5 1/2 year old girl and a 1 1/2 year old boy. They both loved the show. Our son's reaction to the show was priceless - worth every cent. His face lit up every time a new character/puppet came on stage. The characters/puppets were both brightly colored and expressive. We sat way in the back and were still able to enjoy the show. Would definitely recommend this show to parents bringing their young ones to enjoy theatre in NYC.
