As always, Dave was extremely entertaining with his spectacular original songs. He performed a variety of his work including some great tunes from his recently released album "Carry On, San Vicente." Dave throws in a lot of humor throughout the show which makes for an enjoyable evening. He was backed up by fantastic musicians and spotlighted each of their talents throughout the show.

Not only did Dave put on an incredible show, the Ryman is the most perfect venue ever. It was so awesome being there for his first show at the Ryman & he was incredible! Funny, as always, plus, his music is just great. The openers were also great! HIGHLY recommend!

This was a birthday gift from my boyfriend. I have always loved listening to Dave Barnes' music, but this show absolutely blew my socks off! In addition to amazing voice and killer musicality, Dave is absolutely hysterical! I will see him each and every time he's close to Dalton! Just an amazingly fun night!

Dave played a great show! Good mix of old favorites, new songs, a cover or two and plenty of crowd participation. Dave threw in some humorous anecdotes between songs that were entertaining as well. First time seeing him live--would definitely go again!

He's just an extremely talented individual to begin with. His cd's are fantastic, and he's even more amazing in concert! He is super funny in between songs, has a blast up on stage and just plays his heart out in every song. BEAUTIFUL songs, lyrics, vocals, arrangements...overall, a FABULOUS show!!!

This was my first show at the Paradise, and my first Dave show, and it was great. The venue was so small that I actually felt a little too close to the onstage action and stood a way back to feel less awkward. Steve Moakler opened, and he was a great choice, with a distinctive voice doing songs that were similar to Dave's style. Then Dave came on and played just about every song I wanted to hear, and it was great. There was a fried chicken story that fell flat, but his other jokes and stories were great. I waited around for twenty minutes or so after the show to see if Dave would come out and meet people, but there was no sign of him, so I left. My recommendation for people coming to this venue who want to meet Dave afterwards is to plan to wait longer than I did. Overall, great show from start to finish, helpful staff at the venue (aside from a bartender who kept making noise during one of the quiet songs), and I'd definitely see Dave at the Paradise again.

From start to finish, Dave Barnes has again entertained the crowd at the Paradise Rock Club. My husband and I saw him there last year and were thrilled to find out Dave was coming back this year. For us, the sign of an amazing musician is one who has the ability to perform the songs the fans love but can also make the music fresh, whether the songs were just released recently or were from albums past. Dave has that quality. He alternated songs from the new release with favorites from previous albums, and delivered them all with contagious energy. He invited his audience to sing and participate with songs, giving us the chorus of several of them. His stories between the songs entertained; his jokes made us laugh. His humility and sometimes self-deprecating humor continue to endear his fans to him further. With Dave, you get a musician, comedian and storyteller all for one price.

Even though I've been to a Dave Barnes concert at least once a year for the past 4 years, I'm always impressed with his concerts. This year it was an added bonus to see him in the newly and beautifully renovated Varsity Theater. Dave thoughtfully chooses great openers that deserve a chance to be heard by the masses for every tour. Dave also puts on a great show. His music is so beautiful, and he tells humorous stories in between songs. I would definitely recommend seeing Dave whenever he comes to town.

Short and sweet - It was a great hour set, not just because Dave and his band were tight in their playing, or because Dave's musicianship and singing were excellent and honest, respectively (or really interchangeably), but because I haven't seen another performer who manages to make the entire room of people feel like friends. He's constantly funny and performing, even while tuning for the next song, does the ?usual fair? of some musicians in getting the crowd to sing along with their own choruses, and talks to the room. He does it all, and does it all well, and to do so takes such a specific set of skills and talents that I'm personally amazed by what he's capable of. Even if his combination doesn't impress you like it did me, he's STILL entertaining. If you haven't seen him before, you need to see him once for yourself. And if you have, then he's still got all his great tools at work!

Both Dave Barnes and Nathan Angelo are soulful performers with great songwriting skills, vocal chops, and amazing musicianship. The big surprise here was that I was not familiar with Nathan Angelo before the concert. He opened the show with just a bass player, drummer and him playing the keys. I looked at my wife after their first song and said..."Wow, they're GOOD!" They did about a half hour of really great music. Nathan interacted with the crowd and, in fact, reminded me a LOT of Dave Barnes. Then, Dave Barnes came out with just his acoustic guitar and sounded amazing. After a couple of songs he brought out his band (guitar, bass, drums), and they really sounded tight. I especially enjoyed the guitar player....terrific musician! Dave is an incredible songwriter, but the other side of his coin is that he's hysterically funny. We loved the music, but also howled with laughter as his quick wit just cracked up everyone in the audience. A real plus was that Nathan Angelo came back out and played keys with Dave's band for a few songs. That REALLY took their sound up another level. Too bad they don't perform together all the time. The whole show was great from beginning to end. We loved it!

Dave never disappoints! He is always a great mix of musical talent and stand-up comedy. Was excited to be able to go to a concert with tickets that were actually affordable. The Opening act - The Shadow Boxers -- AWESOMENESS!! Talent, good music, cutie-patooties who threw in a fun couple doses of old time "O'Jays; 5th Dimension" Dance Grooves. The second act - Lucie Silvas - beautiful voice, but really wasn't that enthralling or entertaining. Then, Dave comes on - oh Dave! Horns and beats and laughs and jokes. Never a disappointment. While we love the atmosphere of the Ryman, we are no spring chickens anymore and my husband & I were both too long in those uncomfortable church pew seats. That was the ONLY bad thing.

Watching Dave Barnes perform at the Ryman was magical. I'm so happy that I was able to be part of the experience. The Shadowboxes were amazing and Lucie Hale stole the show. Barnes was hilarious and I enjoyed hearing his background stories for the songs. Barnes performed songs that expanded over his entire career with 14 albums total (EPs included). True Dave Barnes fans had no problem catching onto the lesser- known songs. There were a couple of times he stopped singing and let the audience sing the bridge. Several songs came from his latest album, San Vicente.

I don't listen to Dave's stuff music on the radio or iTunes, but appreciate his great musicianship. The concern was musically great--good talent--and Dave is very entertaining. Would definitely see again! Shadowboxers stylistically didn't fit the overall "Dave Barnes feel" and seemed out of place as an opener, but they were musically talented.

I loved the pairing of 2 talented musicians who are close old friends. It was perfectly balanced - both were highlighted separately and together. Enjoyed the variety of band accompaniment. Loved that the only opening act was a member of the band - Jon McLaughlin was an undiscovered treasure to me. The onstage banter between Dave & Matt is best described by the word Adorable. The venue is beautifully renovated but the spacing was weird. Standing room in the middle with tables all around. Other than the set-up, loved everything. I brought my friend who was unfamiliar with the artists and she loved it.
