Seeing Rakim live was awesome. Funk Flex had the crowd hype however the artists in between should have never been allowed to come on stage! It felt like everyone in the crowd was allowed to smoke weed and I definitely left with a contact high. Not cool if you are not in the mood!

I'll always cherish this night. Seeing one of the legends of golden age hip-hop was a priceless experience. Do I think Rakim phoned his performance in? Yes. Do I think the show was diminshed without Eric B on the 12s ? Yes. Was every frquency--including the frequency Rakim raps at--drowned out by the boomy bass frequencies? Yes. Despite all this, I would recomend this show to friends because at the end of the day, "Ain't nothin' movin' but the money!"

The opening act, the DJ before the featured entertainer, as well as the DJ with the entertainer himself were all great. Especially, the DJ prior to the performance to get everyone hype before the grand finale due to the lame repeated music the room was playing before and between acts. The opening act brought people together dispite the poor organization of the room itself. I paid for seats located on the balcony, not standing room only. The DJ did an excellent job dispite the sound booth shortcomings. Fortunately, it was a great performance/show, because the venue was lacking structure. I would have given the show five stars if it wasn't for the venue's issues: timing, unorganized, & late in responding to the acts' needs.

This show was so amazing! I left the El Rey both excited and exhausted; like I had performed! and all I can say is that Old Hip-Hop is just so damn sexy and so is Rakim...DAMN! and Rhymefest freestyle, he's incredible. I went to see M'chelle Ndege Ocello the week prior: awe inspiring ...but I have to say the El Rey is hands down one of the best venues in LA to enjoy an intimate concert.

Opening act (Rakim) and the real draw for the majority of the audience came on way too late. Way too late. At least three of those uninspiring, unenergetic opening acts could have been cut.

Opening acts were mediocre at best. However, Rhymefest was good. The crowd was HORRENDOUS! No participation what so ever. As the greatest rapper of all time he deserved a lot better. I wouldn't have been mad if he walked off. Just a terrible experience.

This was my first show, and I had never been to the Alrosa before. The show was great, my only complaints were that their ATM was out of order, and they werent opening tabs at the bar, so people were having to leave the venue to get cash, and there were equipment problems with the sound system all night. But for this being my first show, I am glad that it was to see Rakim. I would have done it a second time.

I still can't believe that I got to see Rakim for only $20! This was a night to remember! When Special Ed came on stage I was likely to faint. I always had a crush on him and I was so close to the stage that I nearly got to touch him. These are the types of shows I'm willing to pay for. This is when the artist is at their most intimate selves.

I was so looking forward to this concert and I just knew it would be a sell out...NOT...I think maybe 150- 200 ppl showed if that. I couldn't wait to see MC Lyte and Whodini. But this concert turned out to be a New Orleans Bounce Party. Our New Orleans people were more into the New Orleans Bounce music being played by DJ Chicken during intermission and hosted by Gregory D. The crowd would only stare at the artist when they came out on the stage. No loud applause, no singing along, no energy. When MC Lyte was on the stage and saw that the crowd was not receiving her, she seems as though she wanted to walk off. I felt bad. It was sad. But as soon as Gregory D came back on the stage with more NO Bounce the crowd with wild. I paid for floor seats for a ghetto New Orleans Bounce old school party.

Rakim is just incredible. He came on right on time , and just played classic after classic. His flow is incredible and he seems so humble and thankful for his fan. My favorite part is when he did Paid in full and just pantomimed it as the fans sang it. "I know you got Soul was incredible too. Some rappers will just play snippets or are more worried about girls near the stage or getting a drink, Rakim enertains the fans the entire time. Hit after hit. I would not miss him if you get a chance. Oh yeah, it was a sold out show.

Today's Rap artist can't touch Big Daddy Kane or Rakim. They sound the same in concert, and they didn't need a hype man. I would definitely attend again. It was a treat to witness these legends up close and personal. If you closed your eyes you would have thought someone put on a CD. There was no yelling or cursing and their pants stayed up.

I attended the show at the Detroit Masonic Temple October 27th. Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Rakim pertformed. We thought Biz Markie and/or Doug E. Fresh were to be there but no show and no explanation. The show given by each performer was outstanding. However, the ticket time on show said 7pm but doors did not open to nearly 7:30pm and DJ played for nearly hour before anyone hit the stage. Big Daddy Kane was excellent and Slick Rick was well received also however, there was yet another nearly hour plus between their acts and Rakim as we waited for Rakim to arrive to the venue. He was stuck in traffic we were told. Thus the DJ had to fill the time and the crowd was getting restless. When Rakim finally hit the stage he was AMAZING. Overall acts that performed were as good as I remembered however, show format wasnt organized very professionally.

It was my husband and my anniversary. We had a great night. We had dinner first at Scarduzio's steak house than the show. They all look great, that is except slick rick, I think he wanted to make a comeback from the 80's with his updated songs..didn't go over big. Special Ed was the best I think...he looked great. They all sounded very good and put on a nice show. The DJ kept us entertained in between shows. Brought me back.

Special Ed was the best! He rapped the same as, if not better than back in the day. Slick Rick was disappointing b/c he made "remixes" of his songs and basically stood in one spot like an invalid. I like to hear the song the same way it was played on the radio. Bizmarkie was ok, but cheated us out of rapping any lines to "Nobody Beats the Biz". He only sang the chorus. Rakim was fresh to death! What! He was so clean. He sounded like his original self, I enjoyed his music very much.

I was feeling some type when Rakim had to rush through his set... How does the headliner rush through his set? All in all it was a great show!!!!! What Happened To Rob Base????

The show was really great. There were a few things that were out of order. First of all people just can't sit still. Second the people that were directing everyone to their seats were all wrong. Seating people in the wrong sections which caused confusion. Also after every act, the next act should have been ready to take the stage. Too much time was wasted throughout the entire show. It showed because everyone waited for Rakim the whole night and then he said they had to end the show because they had run out of time. All of his songs had to be cut short. That was just disrepectful. You show Rakim's picture and then he is last one to go on the stage and he can't even do his show. That was a big dissapointment.

The artist were great as expected! Everyone on the bill attended and was on time. I disliked the dead space inbetween acts which ultimately led to rushing Rakim's set in the end. The show didn't last a minute past 11pm (felt kinda rushed). The plugged was pulled and everything promptly was shut down. The video monitors were terrible in Boardwalk Hall Atlantic City. If your seats are "bad" then don't expect to see well. I understand this was a hip-hop concert. (2turntables and a mic) however if we're now grown, paying our good money I expect quality and the sound system SUCKED! There was no care, money or attention put into the show. Considering I love hiphop I would attend again but I expect better from the promoters and the venue!

Rakim is the greatest rapper of all time and it was an honor to see him live for the first time. He did all his hits, and it felt like 1988 all over! But the Venue sucks!! The had NO HEAT! We were freezing in there. It was 18 degrees outside that night, but no more than 40 degrees inside. Everyone had their coats on, even Rakim! It was crazy. This is a popular venue, but why is it that because it was a black artist with a majority black audience, they shut off the heat?!? For 2 straight weeks with no explanation?! First time seeing Rakim perform live, and it was as EPIC as I dreamed! I can't wait for him to return----I'll most definitely go see him again!! It was interesting that the start time was pushed back from 8 PM to 11 PM. They didn't start letting people in until almost midnight, but the crowd was very tame & laid back. That's the main reason I chose to get tickets to the DC show & not the show in Baltimore the night before. There were 3 opening acts. I wish I could remember the name o the 2nd artist that performed. I'd like to purchase/download the third song he performed.

For starters, the venue was double booked so when the doors were supposed to open (10:00pm) never happened. The doors didn't open until 11:00pm, which is when the show was supposed to start. Nobody announced anything, nobody said a word as we just continued to march opening act after opening act at us. Eventually, Rakim came out at 1:55am but by that time I was tired as a slave so I watched him perform 2 songs and left. For a person that attends a great deal of concerts, this was by far my worst experience. I will NEVER attend another event at the Howard Theater as long as I live. Its the most poorly ran venue in America.

Want to see a legendary MC give a lackluster performance of one of his classic albums surrounded by like 30 random people on stage with him filming the whole thing on their phones? Then this is the show for you. This was more of a social event with bunch of sycophants giving Rakim props than one of hip hops finest bringing lyrics of fury. This show was wack. Live hip hop is wack. Rakim phoned this in. Save your cash, buy some nice headphones and just listen to Paid in Full at home.

I think the reviews here say it all. Rakim is one of the greatest MCs of all time. But in appreciating him, it is best to stick wit his studio recordings. He was nearly 3 hours late. And while his delivery is still clear and outstanding, he didn't really recite Paid In Full in it's entirety. It was a truncated performance - almost a medley . I had to leave after the first 15 minutes because I had an early workday start the next morning. And that's a shame. When I left he was about to move on to the fifth different song. He was flying through his set.

Since EVERYONE LOVES Rakim, I decided to show up at 9 thinking that he was going to hit the stage around 10pm. Nope. WE had a blind rapper trying to warm up the crowd and a DJ was conducting a "sound check" which consisted of ADHD music playing. I am tired of DJ's switching a song after playing 15secs of it. Anyway, it was cool to see Roxanne Shante and Sadat X from Grand Nubian. It would have been nice if Rakim did not have the WHOLE cast of some show on YouTube up there looking like they didn't want to be there. Overall it was an ok show. I left early after Rakim decided to shoot himself up with the mic. If you were there then you know EXACTLY what I am talking about.

Okay, the title of this review might be a little dramatic, but here's the deal: Rakim took hours to come on, and then he didn't even perform Paid in Full, which was the WHOLE purpose of the show. I can see Rakim perform fairly regularly at a venue within walking distance of my apartment for around $10, but I paid $50/ticket, travelled to the cesspool that is Times Square, and stayed up way too late on a work night to see him perform the album, as promised and advertised. My friends and I ended up leaving early (which, because he took forever to come on, was still well past midnight), and frankly I would like to see a refund of my tickets.

Rakim may hold the title of being the best rapper of all time, however, TIME is obviously not his strong suit. Although the concert wasn't slated to start until 9 pm, we arrived at BB King's around 7 pm to get the best seats possible. At that time there were already other eager fans waiting in anticipation for "the god". Unfortunately, Rakim didn't decided to grace us with his presence until 11:30 pm. Although BB Kings tried to keep the crowd entertained with a good old school hip hop playlist (and the DJ did his thing), we paid to see "The R". When Rakim finally hit the stage, he had lost the majority of the crowd...people were angry and tired. Rakim, many of your fans worked all day and had to get up in the morning to return to work. My husband and I had to leave Manhattan to drive back to Long Island. Needless to say, we left soon after the lackluster performance began. Have a little consideration for the folks who are adding to your bank account. It is unacceptable to begin your show 2 1/2 hours late. I am so disappointed...I expected more you Rakim.

Rakim is my favorite rapper of all time. As always, his performance was dope and embodied what real hip hop means to me. His stage presence, energy and flyness was on point. The only reason I didn't give a five star review was not a reflection of him or his performance. I deducted a star because the opening act was just way too long. I believe that they were local hip hop performers and they weren't bad but I feel like they had way too much stage time. My other complaint is the quality of the microphones. They were horrible. Even Rakims performance was muffled at times due to the quality of the microphone and speakers. Other than that I had a great time.

I had the best time Friday. Rakim was on point and DJ Nabs kept the crowd rocking the entire night. Center Stage was the perfect venue for those who prefer to be on the floor up close and personal with the artist and to get their dance on to the sounds of DJ Nabs. Great night.

This was an ok show. The doors opened @ 9pm, but Rakim didn't hit the stage until almost 10:45. But in between, DJ Nabs kept the place rockin. When he finally did perform, the only thing I didn't like is he would occasionally stop in the middle of the songs and let the crowd rap. That was getting on my nerves b/c he was doing it so much! The last song he did was Paid in Full. He started rapping about the 1st 20 seconds of the the song, then stopped and let the crowd finished the rest of the song!! I was like damn dude, are you that lazy?? Other than that, the show was pretty good.

Over all show was enjoyable. Eric B and Rakim should of been an opening performance. The venue needs a better sound system, the so called big screens were a blurry and too small. I would love to go to Mothers Day show but afraid to pay for tickets and have to deal with the bad sound system and be disappointed.

Folks came in there wearing their mink jackets and coats.. skullies.. adidas sweatsuits.. and the list goes on. I didn't even know folks still owned all that stuff. Honestly.. I luved it. It took it back. Dougie Fresh on the harmonica.. Big Daddy Kane doing James Brown flips.. Folks were in there doing The Prep.. Everybody was dancing in the aisles and in their seats. Its definitely an annual event for me moving forward.

I had a very nice time, the venue was very spaceous. I think that there should be more old school type events in the future.I wish all of my family anf friends could of enjoyed the "party" as much as I did.

The concert was a birthday gift for my man. He absolutely loved it! It took him back to true hip hop and when bills and responsibilities didn't exist..who wouldn't love that! :)

The show was very good. I felt like getting on stage and amazing the crowd with some old school popping; however, the mics were a little too muffled for the preforming artists. It appeared as thought the DJs mics were better or the music wasn't well balanced with the volume of the artist. With today's technology this shouldn't be the case; but, the show was still very good. Lady B was a good host! The monitors on each side of the stage weren't very clear and one of them would blink in and out.

Some acts had too much idle time in between the next acts and the headliner artist was cut short because time was running out! I went to a similar concert at the Dell East in Philadelphia and even though it was pouring down raining and I was soaking wet, I enjoyed that concert much more!!! I think this concert was very overrated.

The concert was off the hook. Doug E fresh and Big Daddy Cane torn it up. I dance from beginning to end. Cant wait till they come back. I'll be the one in the front screaming and dancing my but off.

All the performers were incredible! Kid 'n Play gave me everything I expected and more! Ron Base started the show right. EPMD and Whodini gave ridiculous performances! I thoroughly enjoyed Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick but I wish Doug E. Fresh would've done some of his songs like "Keep Rising to the Top" which is one of my favorites!! I was really excited to see Rakim and was disappointed that he had to cut his show short because they were running out of time. My only complaint is the A/V was horrible. There was a lot of distortion and feedback, a lot of moments were we couldn't hear what the DJs were saying. The video screen closest to me kept malfunctioning so I couldn't use it at all.

All in all the show was very good, It was great to see all the old groups from back in the day. I only wish you could hear better. Not sure what the issue was there. Rakim, was whack! Either he needed more rehearsal time or somehting...he sucked. Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick stole the show

I thought the show was OFF DA HOOK!!!! It was like I was engaged in a Old School Basement Party with a bunch of people I didn't even know, but yet having a GOOD TIME buggin' out!!! This show reminded me of the shows back in the day when everyone would flock to the SPECTRUM in South Philly!!! All you would see was track suits, Adidas shells, trunk jewlery, door knocker earrings etc... Again, it was just a good time!!!

The show started on time and most of the performances were on point. It was a bit awkward that Whodinni amd Rakim came on after big daddy kane and doug e fresh. Rakim's performance was a bit weak. Getting into the venue was orderly and leaving was a breeze. The arena needs to do a serious upgrade of the projection system. The display was awful.

The All Stars of Hip Hop was a fun trip down memory lane. It took me way back to the 80s. Just being in the presence of those performers and the fun filled audience was worth going. However, the sound quality was not good, had I not known the beats of the music and had the words to most songs memorized, I would not have known what they were saying, rapping, and singing about. Also the wait in between groups was unacceptable, had they not had such a wonderful DJ to fill in the time, I would have really been pissed. I was disappointed in the song selection of Kid N Play. They did not perform some of their more popular songs.

If your an Old School Hip Hop head this is a can't miss. I was on my feet from the start of the show. All the performers came and delivered a quality show, it just took you back in the day. EPMD made a point in telling you about the elements of Hip Hop; a DJ, Rapper, break dancing and graffiti. Just like back in the day all Rakim needed was the mic and the crowd was once again captivated, as he Moved the Crowd.

The show was amazing. The dj's are amazing, I love how they keep us going with old school music within breaks. What I dislike is the time in between each take and the order of the performers. I think Big Daddy Kane or Doug E. Fresh should close the show. I love Rakim but he is so subdued, u can't go from a pump to subdued. Please think at it.mi have followed the Old school rappers from the Apollo Theatre.
