Grace Potter

Grace Potter

Born in Waitsfield, VT, Grace Potter grew up in a family that encouraged her artistic pursuits in areas from music to theater, the latter of which she was studying at St. Lawrence University when drummer Matt Burr heard her singing at an open-mike night in 2002 and asked if she would form a band with him. She declined, but when her high-school friend and bass player Courtright Beard enrolled in their college, she reconsidered the invitation, and the three of them began to write and perform jazz-influenced songs, Potter also taking duties on the Hammond B-3. Soon, guitarist Scott Tournet joined, and the bandmembers, calling themselves Grace Potter & the Nocturnals -- thanks to their late-night practice habits -- began to think seriously about making music their careers.

Show was incredible! It happened to be Grace's birthday so she put on an extra special show. She's always interactive with her audience and really rocked tonight! I never get sick of seeing GP perform!

It was my first time seeing Grace Potter live...she is magical on stage and has such a great vibe and to top it off her voice is incredible. The prefect mix for a great show!!! The band completes the good feelings that exude a wonderful atmosphere!!! I will be seeing them again soon for sure!!!

Saw Grace two years ago at the Hard Rock and she was amazing. This time it was awful. She clearly has lost her voice and her edge. She looked like she was suffering from substance abuse. Get your act together Grace, fire your sound guy (it was awful too), the person responsible for the arrangements has to go, and get clean. You are way too good for this! A loving fan :(

Take a perfect Maine summer night, a full moon, Lake Street Dive, Grace Potter, Thompson's Point and fireworks!!! It could not have been a better experience. Thompson's Point is an outdoor venue so weather is a huge factor but that night it was unbelievable. Lawn seating, everyone was polite and respectful and into having a good time - they send you an info sheet before the concert and they say no bad attitudes allowed. Lake St. Dive was Ah-mazing as usual. Grace Potter rocked the entire Point. Music was epic. Especially the encore of Rachel from LSD and Grace Potter singing together. Beer was cold, tacos were yummy. Getting out was the only slight drawback - one road out and it took a little while. Otherwise - epic show!

south st dive was best opening act ive seen in awhile - Grace was rock solid!! stage, lighting and overall production of shows, excellent.... the venue itself needs more food trucks/food stations with some regular fare - lines literally 100+ people deep lasted thru the night and food ran out....more than enough beer and wine stations...

I have seen almost every commercially successful band in my 40 plus years of attending music gigs. This was one of the best concerts I have ever attended. The entire band is truly talented. The percussion solo literally brought tears to my eyes it was phenomenal. I was amazed by the lead guitarist. The venue was perfect with a full blue moon and great weather and awesome crowd. i wish someone had told me there was no seating i would have brought a chair. This is the 4th time I have seen the Grace Potter Band and they just keep getting better and better. Keep up the good work.

Lake Street Dive was everything I had hoped for. The first two songs were subject to the speakers not recognizing the voice she has, but then were adjusted. Ms. Potter. To hide that voice behind a ridiculous, over the top light show and screaming psychedelic metal rock is a sin. The following day I listened to her recording of "She's Got the Medicine that Everybody Wants" and heard this smoky, earthy, guttural, sexy voice that was completely lost in this concert.

Grace Potter had it all. She danced, sang powerfully, interacted with the audience, built up the momentum as it went, switched off several guitars, had a six man band behind her including 2 drummers, a fog machine, and lights going off everywhere! People were standing instead of sitting in their seats!

My husband and I always debate whether a show will be worth dealing with the idiots who pay no attention to anyone else and infringe on everyone's enjoyment. In this case I say yes- Grace and George were worth the inconvenience and annoyance of the other people in the crowd. Most people were thoughtful and considerate but many insisted on standing the entire time and dancing while bumping in to everyone around them and talking and singing loudly and off key along with the songs. I get being into the band and the experience but I paid to see and hear Grace Potter not the older lady in front of me getting her groove on with the young kids, smoking weed and drinking way too much. OH well. For some people I guess that is the way they enjoy the concert.

I went to see George Ezra and he was great. His set was not long enough. Glad there were large screens up on the sides of the stage to view him because everyone was standing in the isle and I could not see at times from Row G. People were sitting in any open seats without the ushers caring. Two people were in our seats when we got there and they just moved up one row and stood for the whole performance. Grace Potter was high energy.

The Whalers were a good opening. Ezra was good but not the right type of music for what should have been a totally upbeat night. Ezra has too many mellow songs. But then the new Grace, with a larger band, was fantastic. The larger band allows her to move around more, frees her from the keyboard. And her new songs are high energy.

Grace Potter never disappoints! Her vocals are outrageously cool, she knows how to pace and mix up the program. With this concert representing her "solo" outing, her new material was fresh and unique. It was awesome, though, to have her guitarist and drummer from the Nocturnals on board. The energy between the three of them definitely is a highlight and makes it fun to listen and watch. The new additions were all talented and seem to get on well. Grace is a veteran performer and knows how to work the crowd. She never left the stage even though she gave the band a break. Lots of fun, large age range in the audience. The Taft was a great venue - you could hear everything.

Grace is great and so is the group.....however, the sound system at this event was horrible. So loud you could not hear Grace or any lyric. Just the base line and a bundle of noise. We have seen Grace a number of times both with the Nocturnals and as a solo artist. In fact she is on our list of artists we go to see anytime they are within driving distance. This show with her new touring band was in our opinion her best yet. Great musicianship and a perfect mix of songs from the new album with some of her older material made the two hour show fly past. The show was very tight and well rehearsed and the sound spot on. Bought the new album on vinyl and came away completely satisfied and certain that the two hour drive each way on a Sunday had been more than worth it.

This was a very disappointing night. I first saw Grace Potter, with the Nocturnals, opening for the Allman Bros. about year and a half ago. They were dynamic, electric! My wife was not able to attend that concert. I really could not wait for an opportunity to let her hear Grace. Ms Potter is a multi-talented performer with great voice. It appears that either she or her management think she doesn't need the Noctournals. Appears they were trying to have an event with sexy costume and light show, kinda like Gaga et al.WRONG!!! First concert I've early from, before even close to end. Get back with the Nocs and get real!

WOW! Grace was like the "Energizer House Bunny," leaping around the stage, constantly transforming herself from Stevie Nicks to Grace Slick to Janis Joplin (even channeling Jimi Hendrix when she was shredding that awesome guitar of hers). I thought the performance was good, but I did not appreciate the opening act starting 45 minutes late. GP did not start until 9:00 pm. For those of us who have to work on Friday, it was not very considerate. Some of us had to leave early bc parking meters were expiring or to get home to relieve babysitters.i will not attend her performances in the future. Haven't seen Grace since Labor Day 2014 and was looking forward to the show, although this tour is "solo" in support of her new album "Midnight", she and her band delivered a rocking good time! The new band is tight, the background vocals add another level ( Eliza Hardy Jones who also opened). Grace delivers a great show in so many ways, always performing, be it solo on the acoustic, behind the Hammond B3 or flailing away on the Flying V or simply standing there singing. The Tabernacle is recognized as one of the best venues in the country for good reason. It is. Acoustics are great.

I absolutely love Grace Potter. I respect her as a songwriter, singer, musician, and performer. However, I feel her Halloween show in Boston was the wrong show for me. She only played a handful of originals and packed her show with mostly 80s covers. I was very disappointed. I know it was Oct. 31st, and I saw on her website and social media that it was going to be a "special Halloween show"--but it was very imbalanced. For crying out loud, she just came out with a new album! I wanted to hear more of her new tracks LIVE... That's what I PAID for. She didn't even play "Alive Tonight"!? While I walked out of the show completely deflated, I won't let that discourage me from giving her another shot.

It was a Halloween show. Grace dressed as her "alter ego," a heavy metal rocker. She played heavy metal covers for the first half hour. She played heavy metal mashups for another half an hour. She played two songs of hers. Then made two attempts at Billy Idol's White Wedding. Then stopped the band's playing, because they kept playing tge wrong song. She continuously complained that her crew sucked because all her guitars were out if tune. She was unprofessional. I didn't like heavy metal music, I like her music. Which is why I bought my ticket. Ileft early, so did a lot if people. Worst concert I've ever been to. Save your money.

We saw Grace Potter last Friday night. She and her band were absolutely amazing! Grace is a high-energy performer with a voice that spans a wide range. She performed some songs from her new album Midnight and many songs from previous albums she recorded with the Nocturnals. There was also a jam session and later, a 7-person (at least) drum solo. All of these people, including Grace, were beating on both drum sets for a good 10 minutes. Talk about innovative and unexpected! Grace has a beautiful voice and is a highly-talented musician who plays piano, electronic keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars (and drums too apparently :-). Since the concert, I've found many of her music videos online and there are two great piano solos for Stars and Timekeeper that highlight her amazing talent as a composer and the profound beauty of her voice. I heard from another couple at the concert that the Nocturnals were present at one of of her other concerts. For this concert, I saw Matt appear for the drum solo only - she had two other drummers for the entire concert. I hope someday she'll return with the Nocturnals as I'd love to hear some of her older songs with the original incarnation of the band. Search the web for her videos with and without the Nocturnals and you'll quickly become a fan :-) The venue, sound, and light show was terrific! My only complaint is they played a bit too loud and I was forced to use earplugs to keep my eardrums from distorting the sound. Most rock concerts are played too loud so this is more of a general comment about all concerts rather than a pointed remark at Grace. Tone it down about 10-20 dB and the sound would be so much better. All in all, highly recommended and I can't wait to see her the next time she rolls into town!

Rayland Baxter's warm-up act mixes a very sweet tone with a little bit of bad boy... "I've done a bad thing and I'm paying for it right now." Then Grace just kills it in every way - that voice, crazy good guitar, boundless engergy and hot, hot, hot. "I got the medicine that everbody wants" and "Ooh la la!" pretty much sum it up

This concert was my 6th time to see Grace Potter. Definitely a fan. As always, she put on an incredible show. The venue had awesome acoustics and sound. She used the stage, had really neat imagery (space/stars) and lights. The only reason I didn't do 5 stars is that most of the concert-goers looked like they belonged at Carnegie Hall, not Radio City. Sitting in the seats, legs up, watching in silence. Grace puts on a rock show! She brought so much energy and still much of the crowd looked bored. I blame them.

Grace Potter was terrific. She was very energetic and has a very good band. The show was GA but they had seats on the floor so it was great. The sound and lights at the Sands are always fantastic. However, the front of house mix for the warm up band was much better than Grace Potter's mix. Grace did a lot of new songs and saved her best for the encore.

Although Grace Potter's brand new record is a slick pop effort with barely a guitar solo, her live show was vintage GP and the Nocturnals, although those band members were not present. She brought a Dave Grohl look alike / act alike on guitar (very animated), and two drummers. A full band and a very full sound. Grace was all over the stage either playing the flying V Gibson or dancing about the stage. The lighting was fantastic, and definitely added to the experience for me. They played from 9:15 to about 11:10 - what a night!

I have been following Grace for over 4 years. Amazing then and still amazing. When I heard she was coming back to town after performing with the Rolling Stones I knew I had to see this show.

Perfect weather at this outdoor venue made the evening even more incredible, but even if it had rained it would have been an amazing concert !! The music was awesome as always. If you've never seen Grace Potter live you're missing out on experiencing a truly gifted band giving you all they have to give.

An amazing show. Completely dynamite with the exception of some pitch issues with the new back up vocalist. The band is out of control amazeballs!

We attended the Grace Potter concert on Monday night, and were thrilled with the entire show!! Con Brio was the perfect warm-up! They have great energy, and their music is upbeat and fresh. Then, Grace came out!! WOW WOW WOW!!! She brought her A game, and the show was fantastic!!! She is not only an excellent musician with unbelievable pipes, but she is a performer, involving her audience in the show. We loved every second!! Thank you Grace for being totally worth every dollar and minute we spent to enjoy an evening with you. It was the best!!!

Another great show by Grace Potter and her band. Always so full of energy that is infectious! The venue is comfy and friendly. Sound could be better, hard to say what can be done about that in an old theater.

FM Kirby Center is one of the nicest renos of the small theaters in PA--the sound can be a little better balanced for the size of the venue. Grace gives a hell of a concert and her fans, "Potterheads," love to watch her perform. We came to hear Grace sing but most of the songs were karaoked, and not in a good way, by her surrounding fans. As a result we had to move our seats back to hear her sing without the fan accompaniment.

Despite the Kirby Center's crappy acoustics, Grace was great. She did a lot of her new songs and a few old favorites, but it's her delivery that makes the show.

Looked forward to hearing the soulful blues of Grace Potter. She did one song that showcased her great voice. The rest of the show consisted of a high energy spin on her version of Guns and Roses and AC DC classics. Love that music too but just did not pick her concert for that. Great energy that is a nice addition to a concert but to abandon who you are or who your audience is hoping to see leaves you disappointed.

I'm a huge fan of Grace Potter's voice but if you actually want to hear her sing buy a CD and stay away from the live show. The music overpowered her voice and when you could hear her voice she was screaming. I felt like I had purchased tickets to a rock opera with all the flashing lights and costumes, it just wasn't at all what I wanted from Grace Potter. To make things worse the venue was horrible, it smelled and the seats are broken down. The Orpheum is 25 years past needing a full restoration.

We have seen Grace Potter before as an opening act for Kenny Chesney and really liked her. When we got this chance to go see her in Albany we said "let's go"! She did not disappoint. We are in our mid 50's and was really surprised to see a lot of our generation attending also. She puts on a great show. She is so full of energy. What a great night we had. We are also fellow Vermonters so we feel a connection to her. Loved it!!

I don't know Grace's music too well, but I like what I've heard. I recently checked out her website and saw that she was coming to town so I decided to check it out. The entire set was awesome. It didn't matter if I'd heard the song before, she moved me for the entire show. I was dancing almost all of the time. Her entire band was great and they clearly were having a good time. I will definitely see Grace every time she comes to Boston.

Grace was great, full of energy and great light show. The unfortunate part for me was the lack of order by the Palace. People stood the whole time moving to the front, blocking isles. We paid for seats and couldn't use them if we wanted to see the show. Someone was smoking pot the whole time and it smelled disgusting. I don't know where the security people were but they weren't around at all once the show started. I wouldn't go back for this type of venue.
