Weird Al Yankovic

Pop culture satirist Weird Al is an unlikely pop star, but with three Grammy Awards under his belt, the funnyman gives music's biggest superstars a run for their money. At his 2013 live concerts, Al delighted ticket buyers with his infectious energy and outrageous outfits, entertaining crowds with hilarious video clips played during his costume changes. With nearly 30 years of recording behind him, Al's success continued in 2011 with the release of Apocalypse, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album and landed at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Comedy Albums chart on the success of singles like "Perform This Way.

This was my first Weird Al show. He's been on my bucket list for a few years now, so I jumped on the opportunity. Emo Phillips was a fantastic opener. There are very few comedians who do straight jokes, and somehow make it work. Weird Al was a fantastic performer, full of energy, and variety. The reason I'm giving this show three stars is that he didn't perform any of the hits. It was not ideal for a first Weird Al concert, it was mainly deep cuts. I knew a variety of the songs, so it wasn't all bad. When he finally did the hits, it was all a melody.

"Weird Al" went deep into his catalog of original works and did not disappoint. Due to not staging his standard prop- and video-filled show (a fact clearly laid out ahead of time), he was able to play cuts that normally aren't a part of the setlist due to length or relative obscurity. The crowd reveled in the glory of hearing some of our favorites live. Emo Philips delivered a fantastically hilarious half-hour of comedy to open the show. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but his intellectual observations and wordplay were well received by the crowd that tends to attend a "Weird Al" show.

Weird Al was amazing as usual. It's always great to relax and laugh and sing along with Al. A great stress buster and he puts on an energetic show. Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers also made a special guest appearance.

Despite the fact that he's a comedy act, Weird Al is a SERIOUS performer! He drew an enthusiastic crowd and did not disappoint -- a good mix of some "classic" songs from the 80s and 90s, more recent hits like "White and Nerdy," and a few current and original works thrown in for good measure. 2.5 hours with no break -- only a few minutes off stage here and there for the requisite costume changes (the Fat suit, the Jedi master, Kurt Cobain, the Amish Paradise rapper, the White Nerd on the Segway). I'd totally go again.

I had never been a Weird Al fan but I wanted to take my husband somewhere special for his 50th birthday. SK has always been a fan of Weird Al's so I jumped at the chance to see him. The songs were fun and the show was very well orchestrated. I couldn't believe the amount of costume changes Al went through to give his fans the full effect! While I'll never be the kind of fan that I observed at the show...singing along and smiling/laughing most of the time but I sure do respect Al much more now!

I went into the concert not expecting much, but came away with the impression that Weird Al works his butt off for his fans. He went over 2 hours without a break - except for the many costume changes. I had a smile on my face the entire night and will for some time.

Weird Al was, as usual, amazing! He and his band are extremely talented and so much fun to watch and listen to. I was somewhat disappointed with the sound quality of the venue. The background effects and music were loud, sometimes too loud. Also Weird Al's microphone seemed to cut out during a few of the songs. The lighting could also have used some improvement. There were quite a few times during the concert that the lights blinded the audience because of their positioning.

The show was really well attended. Fun was had by one and all. The first opening act was Tonic-Solfa. These guys really livened the crowd before "Weird Al" came to the stage. It was a good pairing. I thought it was really good how the "Weird Al" show had good length and sound quality was excellent. The event concluded with fireworks. Couldn't have been a much better Minnesota State Fair performance by someone so unique as "Weird Al" if I had to do it again, I would bring my family and friends.

Excellent show! All the great new songs and the unforgettable classics. Al is a great performer, and he did not disappoint. A couple things to note if you are going soon: If you are in the closer rows on the Main Floor, you will get touched by streamers. Al may also come down the isle and high-five you. Also, there are a LOT of flashing lights. I mean, more than a normal concert. Like flash bulbs.

A great mix of popular new songs and classic favorites. He did not limit himself to parody work and performed some very creative mash-up from full-length songs. He also played a great polka medley (Now that's What I Call Polka! - natch) and had costumes, dances and videos for everything. Great night all around.

Having been a "Weird Al" fan since the 80's, I was definitely looking forward to finally seeing him perform live. I hadn't been to the Pinewood Bowl before, so I wasn't sure how good the seats would be. I was not disappointed! Just a few rows back from the stage was an excellent spot to see one of the best live shows I've ever seen. The energy from "Weird Al" and the band were fantastic, along with the costumes and the big screen at the back of the stage. The opening song ("Tacky") was wonderfully done with a camera following "Weird Al" around the perimeter of the venue until he finally made his way to the stage. Great crowd and a great venue made for an incredible - and 'weird' - show. Absolutely loved it!

This was hands down the BEST show I've seen ANYWHERE! Al and his band kept me dancing and laughing for the whole time they were on stage. I am over 60 years old, and up until now, I've not been able to stay up as late, dance as much, or feel so ecstatic in many years!! This is the first time I've seen a show at the Hard Rock in Billoxi, but it certainly won't be the last. I Loved the venue and the atmosphere. It was like a big party in that room. I'm looking forward to seeing Al again in concert here on the Gulf Coast, and I hope it will be at the Hard Rock!

As casual fans of Weird Al for many years, we didn't really know what to expect from his concert. In short, it far exceeded any expectations I had. We've been to several concerts in the Biloxi area recently, and while I've enjoyed them all, this one was nonstop entertainment for almost 2 straight hours. I didn't realize that the band changes costumes and performs very much in the style of whichever artists they are parodying at the time. In this concert, that meant around 20 outfit changes for Weird Al. While he was off stage for the more elaborate changes, we were constantly entertained by videos playing on the big screen of Al's many, many appearances on tv shows throughout the years, as well as some content he created himself. Overall, we were very impressed and pleased with how much we enjoyed the show. We knew about 75% of the songs they played, but we even enjoyed the ones we didn't. We saw the show at Hard Rock Live at the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi. The venue is small enough so that every seat feels like a good seat, but the sound system and light show were second-to-none. I could really feel the beat of the music, and never had trouble understanding the words of the songs. The seats were a bit small, but comfortable.

I have been to dozens of concerts and this was the most enjoyable show. I smiled for the entire weekend. The comedy clips in between numbers had me doubled over laughing. Every artist says 'Thank you' at the end of the show, but this was different. He really looked like he was humbled that all of these people came to see him. An incredible show. Very well planned out very well put together lots of crowd involvement. I've seen many acts in the past probably close to 50 and this is one of my top 5 I've ever seen. I ve been a fan of Al since In 3-D came out in 1984 but somehow never made it to a show. Fast forward to 2016 and my 7-year-old son and I have bonded over Weird Al and his music. So I decided take him to see Al. Let me echo many other fans here by saying Al puts on a genuine show. Not just a concert, but a complete show, with costume changes, video segments, crowd interaction, cheerleaders, Star Wars characters and plenty of fun. Al, who is 56, was running at 200% for a solid 2 hours. He is in great shape and looks better than he did 25 years ago. As far as the show goes, the Mandatory Fun album was very well represented, and of course he played all the big hits of the past (Fat, White and Nerdy, Amish Paradise). Some of early hits were performed unplugged, Clapton style which I found to be a very clever way of reworking songs he s gotta be tired of but can t leave out of the set. I should also mention that his 4-piece band was superb. Of course, they ve been together for decades, so these guys can probably read each others minds by now. The songs might be humorous but the band members take their jobs very seriously. On top of the music, there were also numerous props and sight gags, perfectly timed by the stage crew. Like I said, this was a complete show, family friendly and worth every cent. It was a beautiful night for an outdoor show and Al really delivered at the Toledo Zoo, of all places.

In honor of my Dad, who was a huge Weird Al fan, my Sister and I decided that this would be the most awesome first concert for my 8 year old son. It truly was! My Sister and I grew up with Weird Al as our Dad was a member of the Demented Society. He would listen to and record on cassette Dr. Demento every week, and the whole family was usually present. Ah, memories! My Father passed away over 15 years ago so my son never got to meet him. At least I can share his sense of humor and love for wacky and crazy music!

"Weird Al" knows how to make every minute of his shownintertaining. From his entrance to what plays for the audience during costume transition. Not only will he play all his songs with as much energy as necessary, or more, he'll also change some up to smooth jazz or include unexpected changes mid-song. He played videos of himself during transitions, and they were very cohesive with the show. They were also individually hilarious. I think I understand why it's called Madatory Fun, because I don't see how anyone can't have fun even if they wanted.

Weird Al never disappoints! This tour is much more intimate than his big productions. There are no costume changes or video screens, just a few parodies; mostly his original stuff; all clever and very funny. He even covers a Ramones song in his encore, playing a one string guitar. For many years I wanted to see the raw Al... something like he had never done before. Get into the elements of what he loves to do. This was the moment to really see it. The big screen busters like his prior tours are definitely great as well, but the performance, timing, and humor really come out in this intimate show. I've been to many concerts... this has been my favorite by far. Not to downplay Emo either... Emo Phillips' standup is still on point and relavent to this day. The obscurity and timing is and has always been amazing for Emo. Jeopardy was really awesome and JW (MC) was great as the game show host. There were some hard questions and even the super easy ones the contestants blanked out on. All in all, I would definitely do this again. Major kudos to the entire band and crew for putting this together, as Al may be the front man of the show... he couldn't have done it without everyone else.

What a great show. First time for everything - the Tabernacle looked amazing and sounded just as good. Small venue gets you close to the artists, even in the 2nd balcony. Emo Phillips maintains his quirkiness from the 80s, all while making his set current. My 17yo loved him as much as I did. Weird Al kept the show low key, focusibg on his musicianship. He is truly an artist, and it was a lot of fun to learn some new songs. All in all, a great night of new experiences.

I took my oldest son (9) to the event with VIP tickets that allowed for a meet and greet after the show as well as the chance to play Weird Al Jeopardy prior to the event. While neither my son or I were picked to play, I was chosen to be Vanna White for Jeopardy and the MC was kind enough to let my son help me on stage. The show itself was awesome as he played a lot of songs that my son and I love, even The Who s Squeeze Box , and ended with my sons favorite, Yoda . After the show, my son was able to ask The Weird one a few questions that he s been waiting to ask for years. Great experience overall and my son s excitement, enjoyment, and satisfaction at the end of the night was well worth it.

We had VIP tickets and it was great. The Jeopardy was OK. They could have done it twice and picked more then just 3 people. It was kind of fun to watch though. Emo Phillips was good but was a little adult in the humor according to my 13 year old cousin who was with us. Then the fun began. Weird Al came out and I felt blew us away with his music and comedy and we're looking forward to him coming back again. We got the meet and greet and that went really smoothly, would have like to spend much more time with him, like a year or so. He signed my framed playlist of the night's songs and got a picture with him. One kind of let down was the souvenir shop. They had lots of vintage items and not much new. I was hoping for a CD or refrigerator magnet or a poster that didn't cost $100, yes it was vintage and framed. I ended up getting a T-shirt. All in all a great and fun night.

Emo Philips was hilarious! I highly recommend buying his DVD at the merch table for $10. Al's performance was great, even without costumes, videos clips and him jumping around the stage. The song selection was good and he chats with the audience between songs. For fans of Al, this is a must see!

My son and I knew going in that this show was going to be different (hey - we read the disclaimer before we got tickets), and frankly, we weren't quite sure what to expect with this one. We'd considered ourselves Weird Al fans for a long time and have seen him many times, but very early on we realized that there was a lot we didn't know. That being said, we still had a blast! There were a few songs that we weren't familiar with, but we enjoyed them just as much. We laughed at the lyrics as we heard them for the first time, and it was entertaining to listen to the "hardcore" fans singing along word for word. My son was excited that one of his favorites, "Albuquerque", was in the set. My personal favorite was "UHF". The set changes every night so don't expect these particular songs at the show you plan to attend, but do expect to be pleasantly surprised by whatever he and his band decide to throw into the mix. You WILL have a great time! Speaking of his band, I cannot say enough about the talent these guys have. To be able to play multiple genres of music every single night never ceases to amaze me and I have so much appreciation for them. We had splurged on the meet-and-greet package and were able to meet Weird Al after the show. He had played a matinee show earlier that day, so by the time we met him it was nearly midnight. He must have been exhausted, yet he was gracious and friendly. We left wishing we had been at the first show as well. We look forward to seeing him again, in whatever manner he chooses to perform. Thank you, Weird Al - we are fans for life.

This show was amazing starting off with Emo Phillips great opening act. Weird Al put on one of the best shows I ve seen him preform it felt like a real personal concert he would talk to people in the audience and give some history behind some songs and preformed a few songs I forgot about a really great show. The Wilbur was a great venue got us in really quick and a nice size for this type of experience.

Al did all the hits and then some. He did numerous costume changes using the large screen video to keep us entertained while doing so. You can tell he LOVES what h does, and that reflects on his audience. I brought my son as part of his birthday present, and was extremely happy I went with him.

Weird Al was by far the best concert experience I've had. His quick costume changes for the songs were cleverly masked by amusing video presentations which usually tied in to the next set if you were paying attention. A++ would go again in a heartbeat.

Nobody gives a better concert than Al Yankovic. Witty, tuneful, high energy performance with spot-on imitations of vocal, musical, and performance styles of the artists he parodies. The entire audience sings along; I don't think it's possible anyone in the theater had a bad time. Incredible costume changes. Great set list. I would happily go to any and every concert this man does within 200 miles of me.

I would recommend anyone to attend a Weird Al Yankovic concert. He performed the majority of his greatest hits and some of the more recent hits such as "Tacky" and "Word Crimes". My seats were about 11 rows away from the stage, and best of all, Weird Al himself walked out among the crowd a few times during his performance. He walked right past my seat, and I had a reaction similar to what any crazed fan of a musician would have: that of pure glee! The costumes and lighting were phenomenal, and I also liked how in-between songs, there would be video segments that were silly and most of the time included Weird Al interviewing famous people or having segments of his music videos.

"Weird Al" was, by far, the best concert I have attended. The meet and greet was great, but be prepared to wait 45 minutes (so dressed warm if you're going to be outside). Everyone around us was having fun, and that's what "Weird Al's" concerts are all about.

I've listened to "Weird" Al since the 80s but never saw him live before this event and was blown away and sad I waited so long. The mix of comedy bits played on the screen between song (costume) changes was hilarious and showed just how much he's a part of the American psyche. My wife who only went with us as a family event was blown away as well and enjoyed herself as much as I did being a long time fan. Then there's the three kids 12/11/7... who were all just so happy the entire show - they couldn't have had a better time. Truly created a lifelong family memory by going to the show. Re: the venue - saw some shots taken but they had a great craft brew vendor and a solid wine vendor that were standard prices and the concessions people manning them were super polite and nice - no issues at all there.

More than ten costume changes. Tons of extras in various gear. All your old favorites from the 80s to his relevant spoofs of current pop and hip-hop songs. The show started with Weird Al singing from backstage while making his way to the stage with a live feed fed to the huge screen he had setup in the center of the stage with his band playing. It was like watching a live Video for one of his songs working it's way to the stage. So as usual Weird Al put on quite a show. Interacting with the crowd and even coming into the seating area performing a couple songs. I saw him 20 plus years ago and if anything he is better than ever. More costume changes than ever and the on stage video's he showed while taking quick breaks to change outfits and such were highly entertaining. A true showman who is extremely talented and has a great sense of humor. There are many great artists and bands out there but none that do what Weird Al does. He's family friendly and it will be a night my son and I will always remember!

First, we had the VIP Czar experience where we got to go to the pre-show party, and meet "Weird Al" after the show. The show itself is AMAZING. He interacts with the audience. He performs some of the most popular songs, and does none of the REALLY long songs. There are costume changes, cartoons, mini segments, and it is all around fun. The show itself is about two hours long.

I wish the sound had been better at the Hippodrome last night! I'm an audio engineer and we sat in the balcony and couldn't understand a word of the lyrics!!! The level was over 110 dBa (I measured it), which causes ringing in the ears and potential ear damage! The ironic thing is that they piped the sound from the show into the restrooms and it was perfectly intelligible, so the speakers in the theatre must have been out of time alignment. That said, Al's performance was AMAZING!!!!!

For a crowd of several generations, Al's smorgasbord of songs played very well. He was in incredibly good voice, the band tight and sounding great. From his opening number of "Tacky", where he strolled in through the crowd, to his slate of video enhanced numbers, things stayed lively and engaging. Especially strong sounding were "Foil" stripped down to mostly vocals, to the layered wall of Sound for "Amish Paradise". I enjoyed "Dare To Be Stupid" in the iconic mock DEVO suits, and the Nirvana spoof still works. The "unplugged" section where Al reworks a number of his songs in an Eagles like stool session also was quite interesting.

This was my first time at the White Oak Amphitheatre and I can say I was impressed with the venue. I lucked out, with the night of the concert being the prefect temp for an outdoor show. Only venue downside I saw was the $10 they were charging for beer, which is ridiculous. The show itself was great, the only negative being my seats to the far right (section 2) and right down in front, row M, limited my view of the video screen Al had set up behind the stage. This meant I couldn't see everything on the screen during Al's costume changes. This is a minor complaint, but if they would have set up a screen on each side of the stage this would not have been an issue. Being so close to the stage however meant a great view of Al and the band, plus Al entered the concert from this side of the stage and walked right by me which was cool. (A lame claim to fame as Al would say) Only disappointment I had with the concert was that it was not sold out. A lot of empty seats left me feeling bad that a name as big as Weird Al couldn't sell out a relatively small venue in Greensboro.

Having a 26 year old son that has been a fan since he was 6 prompted me to hook him up with some VIP passes to the show. The pre-show party (including Wheel of Fish) was fun and the performance was awesome. Al brings out as many of his created characters that he possibly can in a two hour time span. The meet and greet after the show is a bit regimented with no real Q&A time but overall the experience is totally worth the cost and both my kids had a great time.

When you see a Weird Al show, you leave knowing you watched someone who put in the show prep and left no entertainment stone unturned. The show was between 2.5 and 3 hours long - no opening act or intermission - and yet there's no chance to become bored or disinterested. With hilarious original video clips between songs which allow him to change to a new costume each song, the show never becomes stale and the time flies by perfectly. Go by yourself, go with friends, go with your family and kids. It doesn't matter. Just go. Because everyone will love it.

I can't say enough of this show!! I love the songs, costume changes, videos in between, the crowds, the walking through the crowds for some songs, just an overall awesome show! I had mandatory czar tickets so I was close, 4th row at the end. The best part was I could see the corner of the stage where he entered for costume changes and when the videos weren't done yet, I could see him watching the videos :) Some people went up to the stage for the last song, so it was a little crazy then! It's also fun to watch adults and their younger kids getting into the show, getting excited and singing along to the songs! I was always a fan of his parodies since I was younger but just started really getting into his music last year. After seeing him in concert only once, I am now a HUGE fan!! If you like any of Weird Al's songs, just go! You will not be disappointed!

I bought two tickets for this concert as a birthday gift for my 14 year old nephew, who is a huge fan of Weird Al Yankovic, and we were a few minutes late, which turned out to work in our favor - we arrived just as Weird Al was dancing his way down the sidewalk in front of the theater before taking the stage. That was pretty fantastic. Our seats weren't in the best place, however, and the words extreme nosebleed section come to mind. Plus, the heads of the people in front of us blocked quite a lot of our view for most of the concert. Despite this, my nephew and I both really enjoyed the concert. My nephew loved hearing covers of so many new songs, while I enjoyed hearing the classics from the 80s and 90s. We both really enjoyed the videos played during costume changes, as well. I think it was a creative use of the costume change time and really added positively to the show.

I never miss a chance to see "Weird Al" Yankovic in concert as it will ALWAYS be a good time. Costume changes, video interviews, interactive songs, and PG family entertainment. But don't forget the band. Al's band is tops in their field and the fact that they have all been together since the early 80s says a lot about their commitment and professionalism! The comedy is top notch with a little something for everyone. We had the "Czar" (VIP) package and let me say, WELL worth the price! Pre show party (a bit skimpy on food) with a lot of fun and prizes, and then to meet Al after. This man had just had a 2 hour massive workout and he still gave us time to talk and sign autographs after the show! The only thing I can even mention that I think could have been done better would have been to have the other band members at the meet and greet too. As a musician I'd love to meet these guys! Al keeps going and going and you have to admire a guy whose quality still shines long after the people he parodies are long gone (musically that is)

In keeping with "Weird Al"'s theory that a fan's favorite album is the one released when he/she was 12 years old, I first stumbled upon his ingenious brand of humor and artistry with 1999's RUNNING with SCISSORS and have been a fan ever since. I missed his last two concert tours and was elated to finally catch him live. The show is nothing short of an amazing and utterly engaging two hours from UHF theme song overture and "Weird Al"'s entrance to "Tacky" replicating the music video to final bows. "Weird Al" combines frequent costume changes for himself and his band (during entertaining, fast-paced montages of clips of his television, voice acting, and music video appearances that underscore how widespread his talents and reach lie) with beloved songs including older cuts like "Another One Rides the Bus" and of course, hits from MANDATORY FUN and unexpected surprises, like SPOILER ALERT, an acoustic style parody medley of "Eat It," "I Lost on Jeopardy," and "Like a Surgeon." My most favorite moments were 1) the so-offensive-it's-funny "Wanna B Ur Lovr," a litany of bad pick-up lines delivered in a flame-patterned "pimp suit" and fedora as "Weird Al" prowls the audience for victims, 2) his entrance for "White & Nerdy" on a Segway, 3) rocking the black and white striped suit better than Mr. Thicke in "Word Crimes," 4) "Amish Paradise" (one of my favorite "Weird" Al parodies), and 5) the STAR WARS encore of "The Saga Begins" and "Yoda." It was amazing and reaffirming to see the theatre filled with people of all ages, peppered with foil hats, lightsabers, and Hawaiian shirts.

This was a great concert, from the opening number when he started outside and came in down the center isle (though his outfit was SO "Tacky!"), to my personal favorite (my wife says because the title describes me so accurately!) "White and Nerdy," to the final strains of the incredible encore "The Saga Begins," sung in full Jedi regalia while flanked by Darth Vader and a line of Storm Troopers. This high-energy concert was chock full of classic Weird Al video clips, live favorites from his decades of entertaining parodies and original songs, and the incredibly well written and performed new songs from his Mandatory Fun album. My family and I were VERY happy we attended, not to mention that we were able to get good seats because we are "Friends of the Florida Theatre." SO glad we have the Florida Theatre here to bring us fabulous acts like Weird Al Yankovic!
