My wife and I thought the show was awesome, and the musicians, WOW, although I did want him to sing his song Laura , bcuz that s my wife s name, lol. Only negative is, I thought the tickets were a little on the expensive side for a 1.5 hr show without an opening act.

Probably the biggest fan of Big Greg and his Squad. The concert was superb. He was engaging beyond the music. Captivating us all with stories of his son, the dog and his Mother. And THAT VOICE. I thank God for giving me ears to hear. Gregory Porter is beyond great as a vocalist, performer and songwriter. The lyrics capture your heart and don't let go. I drove from.DC to Durham and would do it again for his show. The sound in the theater was superb and the ushers were friendly. Gregory and his band hung around in the lobby for well over an hour taking pic, shaking hands, giving hugs and even kissing fans on the cheek. I have been to many many concerts and never have i seen such love for the people. If you get a chance you must partake in his "Liquid Spirit". You'll never be the same once you do.

Went to see jazz vocalist Gregory Porter at the newly renovated Howard Theatre .Porter and Band performed must of the hits from his new album "Be Good".The highlights of the show Were "on my way to Harlem"and "1960 What?" from Waters CD.The sound was perfect not being too loud as in most live concerts. Can't wait to see Porter again . PS try to attend a concert at the new Howard Theatre which has been redesigned as a "supper club" with tables and chairs, food & drink.Very Nice.

Gregory Porter is a consummate singer who comes ready to sing and brings a great band of musicians to enhance and support his performances. The venue (Sony Hall) is wonderful for audiences and performers because it is intimate. Even those who were farthest away had good seats compared to what would have been back seats at a large arena. The closeness of the audience also seemed to work for the musicians, much like a club date, where they could see and feel the appreciation. I was fortunate to have a seat right next to the stage and it just doesn't get any better than that. I always look forward to hearing Gregory and will definitely check out other acts that I like at Sony Hall in the future..

After following Gregory Porter for two years and sharing him with everyone who would listen, I was blessed to come across the notification of his tour. I immediately purchased tickets for myself, my brother and my sister. Gregory's presence is grand, while he remains humble. His voice ranges from peacefully gentle, to consumingly powerful. He deserves all accolades given and hopefully America will come to appreciate his talent, as much as his European fans.

Gregory Porter was outstanding. He gave us some blues, some jazz, some R&B, and a tad of gospel. There was something for everyone. The band was tight and the performers appeared to enjoy being in Durham. We do not always see that. Porter performed most of his "hits" during the concert. I spoke with a good many people who attended the concert and their response was quite similar to mine. I did not particularly like the "no intermission" format, but the concert was so good, I can overlook that small issue.

If you can get tickets to see Gregory Porter, do it quickly. I've seen Mr. Porter twice now and before I left to see the most recent performance, my husband wished me the best send off ever: go and have fun and soak up all the healing you need. This is what his music does to me, it heals. It began healing an ache I didn't know existed until I heard Be Good on our local Jazz station years ago. Since then, I've found the restorative power of his music, his voice, his poetry, and arrangements fill me with peace and connection to the world. Every show is completely different... it's Jazz. And every show is perfect - with energy in all it's forms, from in the rafters excitement with the crowd singing the back up lyrics to hearing the heart beat of people around you because the entire audience is paralyzed with beauty and simply feeling it together. Mr. Porter is world-renowned and I am honored to be part of that world. At this performance, Mr. Porter was gracious and generous with his time and met with people after the show. I appreciated this time to simply thank him for sharing his message of love and peace with the world. It was an honor to have such an amazing an intimate moment as a hug with this artist.

When you listen to a recording by Mr. Porter, chances are you are hearing a top notch band of session folks, who have serious skills AND good musical judgement. Mr. Porter, on Sunday night, did what he was expected to do. He sung with strength, accuracy, and passion. His piano player was vacuously pyrotechnic. He would have fit better in the lesser jazz-rock efforts of the early '70's. His tenor sax player was strong, lyrical, and kept it complex enough for all but the most jaded among us. He played some good changes, but I wish he'd pushed a little out of his comfort zone. His alto player, too briefly on the stage, was quite good, as were his drummer and bassist. Hopefully, he'll be a bit more circumspect about his stage partners going forward.

He said he had been sick a couple days before but still did an incredible show. He brought strong emotions, great stories and terrific diction( a rare ability today it seems). In addition the band was fantastic individually as well as a unit. The crowd was totally into the entire performance and the sound was so well balanced it was a joy in every aspect. The only complaint is the seats - too small and too crowded.

Heard my first Gregory Porter tune a year ago and have been hooked every since. Almost flew from San Antonio to Charlotte NC earlier in the year to see him since he was not booked here. I was patient and it paid HUGE dividends when he finally came here. His command of the audience with his performance and crystal clear voice was breath taking. The only other artist I have seen in concert who comes close to his performance is Jonathan Butler. San Antonio if you missed this concert you should be kicking yourself in the butt. If he came back to San Antonio tomorrow I would pay to see him again. He was just that good. The small venue was perfect as he only had four musicians with him.

As a true fan, I was still blown away by the Gregory Porter show held at the new arrival to the music scene, the stylishly lovely Sony Hall. More than anything, I seek to applaud Mr. Porter's professionalism -- he & his band came in & totally knock us down!!!! Period. The respect & execution they displayed is rare and deserves highlighting. Then there's Mr. Porter's stylish-, no-nonsense-, velvet- tenor-/baritone- voice ..... ballads were created for this voice!!! I was completely satisfied by his musical set (which exceeded 90 minutes); AND, Mr. Porter was kind of enough to share his gracious pleasantries after the show (while I expressed my gratitude as to the amount of 'joy' he has graciously shared with us via his recordings & this show). GRACE, PEACE & CONTINUED SUCCESS to the Greg Porter ensemble!!! I WILL most certainly see YOU again!!!

DissappointedinSeattle
Gregory came out and announced that he woke up with a scratchy throat in the morning. He said that he shouldn't be singing but would try, starting out slow. He was on stage about 45 minutes and only sang about 30 of that. He took a break while his (excellent!) band played, then came back out to announce that he couldn't sing anymore! His band played a long jam song and that was it, If he knew his throat was sore and scratchy he should have just cancelled the show and returned another time! A one hour show that he only sang half of was not worth the time and expense of going to Seattle for a show. I hope to see him do a real show again someday!

I was extremely disappointed. I am a huge fan of Gregory Porter and had waited for years to see him. He entered the stage with the comment that he woke up with a tickle in his through and would start out slow, but it would not hinder his performance. After a half hour and putting fourth a lack luster effort to sing half of two songs he left the stage to his band to play without him. After another ten minutes he returned to the stage to call off the performance. The performance should have been cancelled before hand and we all should be refunded our money or a show should be rescheduled. I will attempt to see him preform again, but was very disappointed with this showing.

Gregory Porter sounded amazing despite the fact that he said he had a cold and couldn't speak two days prior. My only disappointment was that he did not sing Insanity. His drummer told us after the show that Insanity was on the playlist but maybe GP's voice started acting up so he cut it out. He sounded great to us though. Only GP knows if his throat was getting too scratchy.

He tried, but Gregory was not feeling well. I'd bought my tickets so long ago the anticipation was high. That is why it was so disappointing when he called if the concert after a few songs. The band however, and the little Greg was able to do was spectacular! Hope he fits us in his schedule and comes back soon, because I'll be there. Also, not sure why they crammed people between the stage and front row, was a bit claustrophobic.

Unfortunately as a vocalist I know how difficult it can be to perform when your voice just isn't there. Such was the case with one of my most favorite singers, Gregory Porter. While Porter was clearly a sensitive, conscientious and caring person apologizing at the very start for his health situation, it was overall a disappointed to hear about four songs before he had to excuse himself and end his November 1 performance at the Moore Theater in Seattle. Probably should have just cancelled his concert and rescheduled for another date. What everyone missed was the opportunity to experience his beautiful, rich and dynamic persona /voice on the live stage. I respect his decision to try and make the best of a bad situation but it was truly a big disappointment for us because we had so looked forward to this Seattle debut. Take care of yourself Gregory Porter because you and your spirit are definetly needed in the world today!

My husband and I came to Seattle from Portland to see Gregory Porter for our second time. Gregory Porter came onto the stage and told us that he woke up with a tickle in his throat. He asked that we be patient with him because his voice was compromised. He sang about three songs (beautifully, I might add) then he left the stage while his band played. When he returned he announced that he could not sing anymore. We were very disappointed. I felt badly for Porter because I also had a sore throat and could barely talk and I did not know when I got up that morning with my tickle that I would be talking in a whisper by evening. So would I recommend the event. Yes, I would recommend that you go see Gregory Porter. We will go see him again. I love the old Moore building because of the character but I think they should boost up their lobby and snack bar. They opened the doors to the building at 6:30 did not let us go to our seats until nearly 7:15, There were people with canes who had no where to sit in the lobby. The food was peanuts, potato chips and a turkey wrap,

He doesn't dance or play an instrument other than his amazing voice. This was a wonderful event. The musicians with him are excellent, especially the saxophone player. The others, bass, piano, and drums were also first rate. Excellent performance by all.

Gregory Porter is now my favorite male vocalist. He sings with a combination of ease and passion. I love the sense of heritage in songs like On My Way to Harlem and Musical Genocide. The spirituality of Take Me to the Alley makes me ponder my overall relationship with humanity. An excellent vocalist is not threatened by being accompanied by outstanding musicians. Every one that shared the stage was wonderful especially Chip Crawford and Lakecia Benjamin (who is one of the most exciting saxophonists that I have seen recently). I saw Gregory Porter less than a month ago (over Memorial Day weekend) and would go again within a month. Never too much.

Gregory Porter gave an amazing performance. "Take Me to the Alley" was awesome! The band was phenomenal and sounded great in the Centre. The opening performance by Kandice Springs was great too.

Gregory Porter is an amazing jazz singer and story teller. He is a legend in the making and will surely have his place in history among the many great performers like Marvin Gaye, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday, Lew Rawls and Frank Sanatra. Porter is that good! It is talent like his that leads my dedication to purchase (not just listen) to the music I love. What a tremendous blessing to live in Porter's day. Angela J. W.
