Black Uhuru

Black Uhuru

Jamaican reggae rockers Black Uhuru have been helping fans feel irie with their laid-back sound and bass-heavy live shows since the early '70s. The band has enjoyed huge crossover success with their infectiously rhythmic recorded output—they won the first-ever Best Reggae Album GRAMMY in 1985—and their legendary live shows are just as beloved. In concert frontman Derrick \"Duckie\" Simpson keeps the good vibes flowing, delivering his smooth vocals with effortless cool while several backup singers dance and add breezy harmonies. Meanwhile the rhythm section keeps it sharp as a stepping razor, setting a chill groove with melodic basslines and syncopa.

This sucked! Doors opens 2 hours late (at least it was only raining a little). We finally got inside- the Dj tried to keep the crown going and one guy got on stage and sang some cover songs for a while. The warm up band set up, warmed up and then left the stage. We finally left the venue around 12:30 with NO BAND! REFUND??????

The group Black Uhura did their thing when they came out but doors were supposed to open at 7:00 opened around 9:00. Opening act played about 10:00. Black uhura did not go on until 12:45am. People were leaving and by the time they came on stage there were only about thirty diehard people including me left to see them play. Some people were there waiting at 6:00pm. I'm glad I ate first. Was very unorganized.

The original members are gone. It was a fun night out, but don't expect much.

Disappointed. How can you connect - the performers with the audience or vice versa - when the performers are all wearing sunglasses? The eyes are the windows to the soul, and if you can't see them, something is lost. Performers with the opening bands didn't wear sunglasses and I enjoyed their music a lot more.

Some bands from your past sound tired after 20+ years. Black Uruhu put out some chill reggae that had the crowd (young and old) bobbing, swaying, waving, dancing and chanting back to the band.
