Tim Minchin is an atheist and skeptic, he's also a great comedian and pianist. He also loves dark and self deprecating humor. If you like hearing about how God fixed the cataracts of some australian woman, or how a first time father sometimes wishes a child trafficker would steal your child, just to get a couple of hours of sleep, then Tim Minchin delivers.

Tim Minchin delivered everything his fans expected in this wildly entertaining mix of music and comedy. While the Wilbur Theatre was full of self-selected Minchin fans who would probably have given him a standing ovation for simply standing there and reading from the yellow pages, he still gave them a dazzling performance. From the opening rendition of his classic Rock n Roll Nerd to his closing standard of Darkside he was charming and engaging. He provided his fans with a nice mix of their favorites and some new material to keep them engaged. While Minchin s bawdy rationalistic humor might not be for everyone, it certainly was enjoyed by this audience. That combined with his wonderful piano playing made for a very enjoyable evening.

Tim is an outstanding musician. He uses his cleverly crafted lyrics to entertain and explain his observations of life around him. Tim visits religion, politics, family, and society. He is the funniest lyricist I have ever listened to. This show is not for the conservative religious folk though. A great show.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with Tim. I first heard about him from a friend who did a cover of 'Inflatable Me' in his show. Then I saw a few YouTube videos and him on Conan. He seemed like a powerful performer, but I didn't know how he'd hold up for a long concert. One trick pony? Literate Degenerate? Alice Cooper wannabe for the intelligentsia crowd? Happily, he was just an honest performer, who wanted to put on a show. He's way too smart for the room, but doesn't talk down to you. He loves to shock, but also has a point to WHY he's shocking you. Subtle manipulation of the soul is probably his best forte. Tim had just sold out that night, which surprised me. He's not very well known yet in the US. He seemed generally surprised so many people knew his material in the audience, and had trouble thinking of an encore that wasn't recognizable to the fans. It was a nice touch. I'd try and catch him again, but get better seats. The lower deck couldn't hear him well - the piano was plenty loud, but his vocals got lost when you were under the balcony.

This was by far the most amazing night i've ever had. Tim was and continues to be an amazing performer that tickles your senses with the fewest words. Two hours of him playing the piano is far better then anything you could ever offer to me. His songs are intelligent and witty but also deep and complex. He makes you think about your own thoughts for a change and will make you laugh at terrible things. He is honest with his opinions and doesn't hold anything back. I strongly recommend him to anyone who asks, however this is not a show to bring children to.

I've seen him about 8 times. His piano playing is virtuoso. I'm shocked at how wonderful he is. I can't wait for him to have a B'Way show and sell out huge huge venues. He's a cross between a South Park musical and Eddie Izzard with a peppering of Carlin. Genius all the way around.

If you haven't seen Tim Minchin live, you need to change that immediately. Those that have seen Tim Minchin will likely agree - they'll be back. If you are typically easily offended by comedians, this show IS for you! Tim is witty, intelligent, funny and an amazing piano player. He does not take cheap shots at religion or denigrate people's beliefs. His humour is well reasoned and not trashy. Having said that, Tim Minchin is extremely smart and he might leave you thinking about why you might hold a firmly held position. Warning: If you don't use your brain on a regular basis, you might not find Tim funny. Otherwise - don't miss this show.

Minchin was fabulous. not a lot of new material but solid as he hit the boards. his piano playing is mesmerizing. Even treated us to a preview of Groundhog Day the Musical. Wilshire Ebell theater has to hop into the 20th century. They were stymied with e-tickets and lined us up around the block if we had ticket apps instead of paper. Really, really bothersome. Also tight seats, uncomfortable. But Minchin made us forget the seats. he was awesome.

Tim messed up almost every song at least once, sometimes a couple of times. He kept forgetting words, mixing up words, or which part of the song or poem he was on. His interaction with the audience during these times was just as funny as the songs and it honestly felt more real than just watching him perform perfectly. I would certainly go and see him again.

It was a stripped down show, just Tim, piano, mic and a fan. Well there were nothing but fans there, I mean the wind-for-dramatic-effect floor fan, which came on during Rock 'n Roll Nerd, and then got kicked. Tim's version of the smashing of guitars? it was a nerdy rock show. Look, he's kick-fan entertaining and smartass as an art form, rocking your nerdy sensibilities. Go see him. As for the Whilshire Ebell venue. Hot in the balcony. Couldn't hear some of Tim's monologue. Songs sounded good though. He played all the classics, fans adored him. Even the floor fan. I left wanting more Grounghog Day songs. Best stuff of his career. It's a man, a fan and a piano, tearing it up, Shredding Boundaries!

We enjoyed seeing & hearing Tim Minchin's familiar songs & poems: "Prejudice," "Storm," etc. He did turn away from the audience toward the end of a line sometimes & if you did not already know the delivery, you might have had difficulty catching key words. Tim was angry with himself for messing up a beat poem & asked to restart it, but no biggie, the audience was with him. One fan even sent up a bottle of scotch. Clearly, there's plenty more poems to write & topics to skewer in song. We eagerly await new material while savoring favorites.

Tim is hilarious, and even when he's the only one on stage, he's just as captivating as he is with a full band. His banter is hilarious, and his songs are funny while also being genius. He ended the show with a performance of a song he's writing for the Groundhog Day musical, and it is absolutely beautiful. A small theater was the perfect setting for this show. Absolutely the most fun performance I have seen. Although not sold out like the LA shows, the audience made up for it with their enthusiasm. Most of the pieces performed were well known but the energy he puts into them made them seem fresh and even funnier. The new material was an even greater treat. Just be sure to know what type of performance you are signing up for. A man and, I presume, his daughter about 10 years old left about a third of the way through. The F** word is a predominant part of his delivery. As they say, not appropriate for all ages.

Those people who follow Tim on Twitter will be familiar with the obstacles he had to overcome just to make the show in Dallas happen. One piano rental place tried to gouge him. Another called him a demon and told him to go home to Australia. His Twitter followers (ones who had never been to Dallas, I presume) were telling him that Dallas was always going to be a challenge and not to go anywhere without heavy security. I hope Tim's perception of my hometown has not been irreparably damaged by the local piano rental community or twitterers (twits for short) who tweet ignorance, and that he will choose to return again someday. And in spite of all of this when Tim walked out on stage he immediately began to deliver logic, wit, and wisdom as only he can. He opened the show with Rock and Roll Nerd, closed it with a roomful of athiests (or at least athiest sympathizers) singing a beautiful rendition of Hallelujah, and filled the middle with so many smiles and so much laughter that two days later my jaw and cheeks are still aching. From his comments on the art deco decor of the theater to his bare footed toe-gun "Pew! Pew!" his comedy ranged from almost silly to extremely poignant. Tim is absolutely brilliant. Whatever you do, don't miss his marvelous show.

Tim's intellectually thought provoking performance was top notch. Witty, clever, and a musical master, I was surprised by his ability to connect and move with his audience, as well as his overall showmanship. This performance was wrought with mishaps on the venue's side - loud backstage noises, mixups on makeshift floor seating, miscues by stagehands, etc, but Tim managed everything with the grace and humor of a true professional. The venue would have been excellent for a rock band, but poorly adapted to handle a musician, comedian and performer of Tim's caliber.

I've been watching Tim Minchin on You Tube for years and I was thrilled that Atlanta was added to his 1st North American tour. I am such a die hard fan that I would have flown to any city to see him, but when Atlanta was announced I was ECSTATIC!! Center Stage is a good venue, however the seating leaves less to be desired. The plastic folding chairs on the floor were ..... lets just say not comfortable, and considering a majority of the audience was tipping the scales, I'm surprised most of the people fit in the seats, anywhere in the theater. One girl in my row even got up mid show and went to sit somewhere else or stand in the back, it was THAT uncomfortable. Tim never ceases to amaze me. The show was spectacular and afterwards, he always comes out to visit with the fans that hung around and has the most amazing demeanor. He treats each and every person as if they are his own close personal friend. No matter how many crazy, stalker-types there are, he doesn't cut your time short or make you feel as if you are chatting his ear off, even when you are. I really hope he catches on here in the US the way he has overseas, he truly is an amazing artist and I can't wait to see him again. I do enjoy the smaller venues, since this gives him more opportunity to mingle with the fans. 2 days after the show and I'm still on Cloud 9 having had the opportunity to meet with him and actually get to talk to him for a few minutes.

Every few years a fresh voice in comedy comes along and shakes up all the rules. The last voice to come crashing onto the scene is Tim Minchin. Already a major star in the U.K. and his homeland Australia, this is Tim's first U.S. tour. You will know from the very instance he sheepishly walks on stage, bare footed and wearing eye-liner, that this is not the same old comedic scene. In fact this is more of a cabaret approach. As soon as he sits down at the grand piano and starts playing you know you are in for a treat. But not only are his songs and dialogue in between them hilarious, they are also profoundly thought provoking. If you are easily offended- and rigidly stuck in traditional mindsets- this isn't the show for you. But if you are prepared to open your mind and think as you are being wildly entertained go see Tim.

I saw Tim Minchin a few years ago in San Francisco and was so impressed with both his comedy and his musical talent. This performance did not live up to that past experience. Unfortunately, we arrived about 15 minutes late, and our seats provided a view of his back as he sat at the piano. However, my main problem with his performance was that he added two guitarists and a drummer, which I felt were detrimental to the musical quality. He seemed to be trying to be a rock star -- I prefer him solo. He also did one number in which he played guitar -- and it was a very uninspired performance. His piano playing is wonderful, and he should stick with that. I also felt that his singing was great most of the time, but on occasion he was flat. Maybe a few more rehearsals? I found the audience a bit rude in their insistence on calling out song requests -- requests that Tim made clear he was not going to honor. The audience calling out interrupted a couple of times when Tim tried to talk, but was prevented by the shouting from the audience. I enjoyed some of the pieces he performed, but overall, both my husband and I were disappointed. Tim should stick with his exceptional solo comedy/music performance.

This was the first time seeing him in concert and he did not disappoint. He played a range of songs, both old and new. He is so quick and witty with words and his songs are so intelligent. I was really glad that the sound system was good enough that it was easy to hear the lyrics, Only two disappointments. One was the crowd. Several fans/jerks insisted on shouting when he was trying to talk, which shut things down. Second was the backup band, which was too loud and crowded out the lyrics. It was nice having them backup on several of the songs, but in others I wished they would have stayed in the background or even off-stage.

this was my third time seeing Tim perform, and he is always so so good. He really seems to enjoy himself. Be warned that he is very liberal and outspoken (which I love), but he is so charming, I can't imagine anyone being offended. But if you are that person, stay away.

I've listened to Tim for a few of years now but missed the ones when he was touring. He does not tour much anymore and I just happened to be doing my occasional checking if he was around and saw he had only 2 live shows, one was in NYC and the other in LA. Figured this might be my only chance to see him, so bought a last minute single ticket and drove down from Boston just to see him. There was no new material and he even mentioned that he was a bit out of practice since he does not perform live as much as he used to. He occasional missed notes on the piano, which he readily called out, cursed at himself for missing, told us to not applaud for that, when back and tried it again, and then nailed, it was entertaining and just so much fun. This guy's piano playing is mesmerizing, powerful and the envy of any of us that play. I'd give my right arm to play like him...however, I guess that would be a really bad trade and truly hinder my progress! Combine that with his biting wit and masterful word play, I so wish he was writing new music and touring. He speaks a painful yet hilarious truth on so many subjects that many of us can relate to, I wish he was still writing and skewering society to help us release the collective feelings of frustration that we have weighing on us. If you ever, EVER have the chance to see Tim live, are ok with pretty raunchy and vulgar comedy, and have an open mind, you will not be disappointed. Being an atheist does not hurt either! ;-) He ended his show with a version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, he even said it was a cliche to play it, but was doing it anyway. Dark stage and theater, him playing and singing, audience singing and harmonizing..now that was a religious experience, ironic, no? Tim, please, please write more and tour. You are the hero we need now more than ever!!!

That's an old quote from Tim defining a genius. And of course, he is a genius. To be fair, asking me to review Tim Minchin is like asking a jackal to review meat. But this was actually my first live Tim show, and he was perfect. He is the only performer I've ever seen who can make a great show even better by forgetting his lyrics. He was goofy and brilliant, sang a bunch of songs and did a bunch of bits, all of which I've heard before and still LMAO. Threw in a bit of Matilda and Groundhog Day and a singalong of Hallelujah in the dark that was amazing.

This was my first visit to the Beacon Theater. I only went to see a performer that I have been waiting over 4 years to see- Tim Mnchin. He is a great performer. He is a great personality. His piano playing, lyrics and tunes are incredible. He is a genius on sterioids. There are few performers you will see with the incredible suavity, honesty, creativeness that effuses from his body. I sat 4 rows from the stage and could appreciate fully all his creativity and demeanors. The venue itself was beautiful and I spent the time prior to his appearance gawking at the furnishings that were both overt and subliminal. Tim Minchin is a must. Don't be a fool and miss out if you have a chance to see him and laugh out load.

I discovered Tim Minchin only recently, and after the point when he was performing solo regularly. When this concert was advertised, I did not hesitate to fly from Colorado to NYC for this show. His intelligent and socially aware humor combined with outstanding musicianship made for a night I will never forgot.

Tim Minchin is a genius. If he were just a piano player, he would be one of the most dazzling virtuosos you ever heard. But that isn't even his greatest talent! As a composer and lyricist, he is among the sharpest satirists working today, and a desperately needed voice skewering the madness and hypocrisy that afflicts the Western world. (Not to mention being a gifted actor and stand-up comedian and the force behind some of the smartest musicals around.) If there were a God, we would have to thank him for Tim.

Three standing ovations, brilliant lyrics, phenomenal piano playing ability, social commentary without being preachy. And so so funny. Best show I've seen in many years

Tim was great. This was my first time seeing him since I discovered his music and comedy last year. He was as funny, entertaining, and relatable as could be expected. I hope he tours more often so I can see him again. Beacon theater was beautiful.

There is no artist, and no act (comedy, rock, or otherwise) that is as unique, smart, vulgar, hilarious, catchy, or endearing as Tim Minchin. Sell the car, mortgage your home, do what must be done. Tim's show will be worth it.

This was the funnest show I have been to in ages. I laughed so hard for so long that my cheeeks literally hurt the next day. Tim's connection to his audience is remerkable & his quirky faces only enhanced an already stellar night. If he wasn't already married, I would propose.

This was my first time seeing Tim Minchin live in performance, and I'm SO glad I did! Funny, charming and quite unique, it was a wonderful, fun evening. Hard to describe - Mr. Minchin's comedy is wrapped up in his music, it's not always obviously funny, but it stays with you and makes you think about it. His smile lights up the stage, and he has a giggle that is truly infectious. Best of all, he is enjoying himself up there, and that translates to the audience, who were all having a grand time right along with him! GO SEE HIM if you get the chance!!

There is good reason for Tim Minchin to be so popular in Australia and Europe. He is wickedly funny and a tremendous talent at the piano. His show ranges from bawdy comedy to intelligent discourse. Highly recommend.

One cannot begin to explain the positive audience anticipation and response to Tim Minchin's talents as a comedian, pianist, singer, creator of song and social satirist. He pokes fun at everyone, but somehow does not offend. At least, I wasn't offended! He exposes many of our own prejudices and taboos, in a humorous way. He is in tune with the minds of people!

Tim blew NYC away with a combination of some of his classics along with some new material. His encore was truly special and it was a privilege to be there. A very, very clever comic, and genius musician.

I cannot put into words the honesty and talent you will rarely find in any artist not to say in a person. Either you agree or not with his views you can't ignore the audacity and impact every chord and word has.

Gah! This was so much fun! I'd heard most of his stuff on YouTube, but every performance is better live, right? Only problem really was at the beginning when there were a few sound problems. Otherwise, the jokes and songs were beautifully and thoughtfully hilarious.
