The students who put on this event are working really hard to bring it back to its roots. I've been going to the reggae fest for at least 7 years. The first 3/4 years we're absolutely amazing. They had very good reggae artists, an abundance of different types of food, and many different pop-up shops. They strayed away from this for a year and it was not good but now they are coming back to their roots and continuing with the tradition of reggae and jazz artists, live art, and delicious food!

The day was overall very unique. It was nice to listen to the dj's play at the second stage while eating at one of the delicious and very ethnically diverse food stands. On the other hand, there was very little seating and when my friend and I wanted to enjoy our fried fish and kebabs while relaxing on the turf, we were asked to get up from our comfortable spot on the ground. After eating dinner we went to see Lido and Portugal. The man on the main stage and Portugal was absolutely amazing! It was so energetic and intimate, it will be a hard experience to forget.

Raphael Saadiq is sexy! They cut him short which was sad cuz he would've given way more. Food selection was out of this world. Q-Tip had the crowd live. Parking was only $10, not bad. Good music throughout the day.

Q-Tip's performance was awesome, should've closed out the jam day. Only dissapointing moment was Raphael Saadiq's set (he was rushed off the stage due to time). Overall venue was great, food vendors were all delicious. Can't wait for next year!

This is my 2nd year attending this event, and just like last year, the headliner was cut off mid performance. I understand why the performance needs to end at 7pm, but since that is the case, the stage time needs to be better managed. Raphael Saidiq was the headliner, but the minor acts had more stage time. I really do believe this could have been avoided had the downtime between acts been more efficient. I don't know if this event needs a more experienced stage manager, director, or producer, but something is off in their logistics, which makes waiting in the hot sun just not worth it. On a brighter note, the performers were talented and I did enjoy them while they were on stage.

Over all the show was great. The weather couldn't have been anymore perfect. The fact that it was a sober event didn't bother me a bit. Even though I noticed some people had a little 'happy juice' they snuck it, they crowd was nice and there was no drama. Got a chance to see Macy Gray when she came into the deluxe section to get something to drink.

The UCLA Jazz Reggae fest always makes for good time. I have attended twice in the past and this year was no disappointment either despite being a very hot southern Cali day. I attended the Jam day (Sunday) only this year, but Q Tip and Rapael Saadiq definitely provided good performances. Bilal also peformed well. The only opportunities for improvement are the UCLA Events Planning Team making sure additional time is placed between the sets of its headliners to ensure that the last performer equally has enough time to perform and so the sets are not rushed. Also, UCLA should make sure additional traffic officials are available to regulate mass people exiting from parking structures as it took close to 45 minutes to depart the campus.

I liked that there were several underground artists that were featured. However, I did not like the structure of the program. Too much time was given to the so so acts and not enough time for the main acts. Raphael Sadique was cheated out of his time. How could they give the shortest amount of time to someone of his calibur. They should definitely restructure the program so that the best acts are given the time they deserve. VIP was a JOKE!!! Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, give me a break!! The seating was too far from the stage. UCLA does not understand the concept of VIP.

Although all the artist were good Raphael Sadiiq was the one we were all waiting for, and after all the wait he gets up and performs for a shorted period of time and in his frustration of being rushed he just walks off the stage. But what bothered me most is that no one thought to get up and apologize to everyone that paid for this specific performance nor let us know the event was over... Truly thought that was the very worst note to leave us on besides all the restrictions and constraints jammed on us walking in.

Apart from Raphael Sadiq only performing for about 30 minutes the event was well coordinated this year. Q-tip killed it on stage! -Was possibly one reason Raphael had limited minutes. All in all UCLA's festival is a good time. I've been attending since the day's it was held on streets of Westwood and have watched it grow tremendously over the years. Wish I could make it out today for Raggae with Nas and Damien Marley but committed to a bbq. -Might sneak away and head back to ucla?

Great festival - well organized and planned out. The music and line up were great, lots of food vendors to choose from and merchants. It was fairly hot between 11am-3pm so the only downside is people cannot bring their own umbrellas. I'd suggest to the organizers to perhaps provide something to block the sun or give people the choice in the general admission area. Also if they had some kind of misting tent or similar to keep people and kids cool. Other than that, great fun and wonderful that the organizers chose to keep it "earth" friendly, providing free water at a refill station, recycling bins everywhere and even free sno-cones for 5 minutes of your energy!

Started too early, couldn't buy alcohol or smoke on premises. Music between performances was great but played at a very low volume, never really got the crowd warmed up...what did was the sun!! Festival should've also continued for longer, for instance after all the performances were done there could've been a party tent till 2am.

I always enjoy the Reggae Concert. I have been going since it was a free event offered by UCLA. There were not as many food vendors this year but I ate at a new vendor. They soid barbeque. The food was good and they even had some food for 3.00. The food is sometimes over priced and in the past some of it was not good. If you have a family $8.00- $10.00 a plate for food is a lot. $5.00 for a drink is a lot.

I like the line up of the reggae day on 5-26-14 but didn't like that they won't let you bring umbrellas this is an open space field not 1 tree to shade u and you can't enjoy the event when your body is burnt from the sun. No matter how much sun block you use it is still very hot. They should come up with a solution for this instead of selling over priced tickets for the DELUXE SECTION. It use to be a very funfilled day I have been going to this event for at over 10 years and this was the better one for me.

The Reggae Fest was fun because I went with fun people. However the line up of performers could have been more exciting. I would have liked to see more dancehall mainstream performers such as Sean Paul or Beenie Man. I also felt if there were more cheaper priced Pre-sale tickets (i.e. $25), the event would have had a larger audience turnout. There's always next year!

I go to UCLA's Reggae Fest every year and I absolutely love it! As always the food was amazing this year but I was disappointed by the low energy of the performances. The performers were all wonderful artists but they lacked the spark and excitement that is usually experienced at this festival! Not sure it was worth the visit this year! Let's see what they have in store for next year! Previous years were amazing! This year was not hype!

I love reggae so much, but i was so much disappointed with the artist we had this year. Sister Carol was the one which at least tried. Instead of G. Heritage, Morgan Heritage would have been a better on. My friend who introduced me to this festival 4 years ago did not buy a ticket this year because he claimed there was no reggae artist to go listen to. Snoop was the greatest this weekend. I hope you guys will get some good artist on the 29th. I look forward to be there again.

This event should probably return it's focus to students who are used to being aggressively monitored for laying a blanket on the grass/dirt and bringing fruit to munch on. For those of us who remember this event as a Jazz & Reggae festival, the quality of entertainment was poor with the exception of 3 Aloe Blacc songs and Snoop Dogg. Music aside, there were 100 security guards randomly enforcing a minimum distance of 18 inches, 2 feet or 3 feet from a spray painted walkway line. Why not just paint the line 18 inches, 2 or 3 feet wider as opposed to standing in the middle of the walkway and constantly yelling at people to move 6 more inches??? The soundstage was 40 feet from the actual stage which blocked the stage view for 2/3 of the audience. That was brilliant. Unless they have an awesome lineup, I'm not wasting my time nor money @UCLA JAM DAY again.

I drove up from the Bay Area for the Jam Day at the UCLA JazzReggae Festival and it was worth the drive! Although I got there in time to see the last 2 acts(Aloe Blacc and Snoop Dogg) I had a great time, and both artists were worth every penny of the festival. There was a nice variety of food and clothing vendors. The best part was the diverse, chill crowd. There were A LOT of people in attendance, but plenty of room to spread out a blanket and just chill. As a festival aficionado, this event gave me everything that I needed! Whether you are into great music, good Jamaican food or just a laid back event to chill and hang out with friends, the UCLA Jazz Festival is a great way to kick off summer!

This was an amazingly fun event. It was a perfect day for an outdoor concert, sunshine and a nice breeze. The line-up on Saturday was incredible! Aloe Blacc was so much fun. He turned up and out! And what can be said about Snopp Dogg....Overall, this was the best concert ever. As for the vendors and food service...I would rate that around a B- I would like to see more vendors and more variety of foods. But, it wasn't bad. The idea of having a FREE water service was wonderful. It was a hot day and keeping hydrated was important. That was gracious and very smart of the organizers. On the negative was the LONG @ss walk around the building to enter the event sight. What's up with that??? I understand "crowd control". But that was a bit ridiculous. Access to parking was OK. Overall, I would recommend attending this event next year. You will not be disappointed.

I enjoyed myself...loved the bands, did a lot of shopping. My only complaint is that I bought VIP tickets which I thought were a joke. They were situated on the side of the stage so you could not see anything. I had lunch there and left. Was a big waste of money. Also not enough tables had to eat standing up. What a joke. Also it was sad to see all people leaving and a very sleepy crowd by the time Ziggy came on.

The first year I went, it was extremely hot and I didn't know what to expect, but was well worth a 5 star rating. This is the second year I've went and this time I bought the deluxe tickets. Deluxe tickets included; seating, shade (a plus, esp if hot), drinks, food, and take home bags with goodies. The deluxe tickets are definitely worth the shade, seating, and drinks. The deluxe area also provided TV streaming of the concert. However, it does not provide a very good listening experience. Because the deluxe area is off to the side, the music sounds muffled. I wish they'd face some kind of speaker system toward the area. The only way to thoroughly enjoy the music was to be towards the front of the stage. I may be asking for too much, but you think you'd get at least a decent audio experience being the the deluxe area. Also note that you can't see the stage from the deluxe area. The artist line up was excellent. Another problem I had was with the selling of food. I'm not sure who dropped the ball (whether it be UCLA or the vendors), but the vendors were unable to sell the food and drinks because of problems with the hot water for about two to three hours. Luckily, I had the deluxe tickets, so food and beverages were provided (though I wish they did state the food was only 1 meal). I could see how agitated people were getting as time went on and the heat began to kick it. You'd think that with a 12 o'clock start for the festival, that'd give them plenty of time to ensure that all the preparations regarding drinks and food would be settled. I do wish that the people who ran their Facebook page would of at least addressed or apologized for the situation, but they pretended like nothing happened. Nonetheless, I had an excellent time and would definitely go again. I HAD to deduct two stars for them failing at something so important for an outdoor festival. Next time, I'll be sure to eat before hand, just in case they have problems with the food and drinks.

This is the 10th year that I go to this event and it just gets better every year. It was very well organize, the weather was beautiful, people were well behave. There was plenty of space to just lay a blanket enjoy the music, dance and enjoy the food. Barrington Levy was great, the sounds system made it seems like it was a CD. This was such a fun event. We got there around 12:15, got a really good spot towards the front and enjoyed the sunshine and the good music. Q-Tip and Raphael Saadiq were great! The other acts were also really good. I had never heard them before but they were great: The boogie and quadron. The sound was great and I loved that the food vendors were all affordable. I was not expecting that at an event like this, but the food had great variety and at great prices. I think everything was $3 - $8 and the meals were big portions. The other people that were there were totally cool and friendly. I loved this event and I can't wait to see the line-up for next year. We will definitely be back. =)

This was a great event made even better by the UCLA Latin Jazz Band directed by the charismatic, talented and creative Dr. Bobby Rodriguez. The students are the best musicians as they were the best in their high schools and made even better by their teachers (and lots of dedicated practice time) at UCLA. My only complaint is that they should have let the Latin Jazz Band play a little longer.

It was a beautiful day in the sun and so happy that the venue was back to picnic style in the grass, but still we were nostalgic for the old stomping grounds where the festival had been held all the years before. The music was great, but they needed more food trucks available for the amount of people that were there. To only have 4 options and not let people bring their own food was rather disappointing. We did however still enjoy our day in the sun with the good music.

This USED TO BE an awesome event. The line-up of artists, food, fun, etc. This year, the line-up of artists was ehhhh. There were four food vendors (one Jamaican, one Southern, one fish/shrimp, and a lemonade/drink vendor) -- that is is.....wth. The space was smaller. The one headliner was Barrington Levy --- Others were kinda B-grade/C-grade artists. We had about 3/4 craft type vendors. I mean, come-on now. The planning committee have to step this back up. In comparison to what this used to be, this was kind of lame. Sorry -- I might be judging this harshly because I have been going to JRF for years..........

What a fabulous experience of traditional jazz with The Thelonious Monk Institute Ensemble. Michael Mayo's vocals were pure, smooth and controlled. Each musician joyfully shared the breadth and depth of what it takes to be a future jazz master. I danced and whooped it up when Tiffany performed. Reggae was the true star it should be!!! Bambaata Marley is next generation reggae artist carrying the torch into the future. As Ziggy's son and Bob Marley's grandson, his energy and passion have been passed to him and he is carrying the torch! Jesse Royal was so authentic with just one word "Ja". Genuine, heartfelt reggae. Loved it. Then the Legend Barrington Levy took the stage. His voice so big and commanding and so sincere. When he sang "Nothing To Be A Man" he slowed it down with such emotion I broke out in tears. Thank you UCLA for bringing back the original concept of JazzReggae Festival and the location (back on the grass) was great!

Seriously, so horrible this year. The venue change was a big mistake, as well as the overall organization of the line up. Half the arena was empty. Also, there were no jazz or reggae artists this year. It makes a huge difference, because in previous years, guests were able to come over the span of the weekend, bring blankets and foods and have a relaxing, fun time. The seating this year was in individual chairs that made the event very stiff and frustrating. People weren't even standing up for the artists. It was a very very pathetic turn out. PLEASE GO BACK TO THE WAY JAZZ REGGAE FEST WAS. IF IT AINT BROKE DON'T FIX IT!!

I have been going to this event on and off for 10 years. It has completely changed from a jazz and reggae festival to a commercialize rocke concert. Please change the name.

Maybe it was because it was an overcast, windy and rainy day, but there was very, very low attendance. The music, however, was very good. We only stayed until 4 or so. Maybe it got jumping with more people later on.

Ultimately the whole fest was disappointing! I've gone before and had a great time but this was ridiculous. I wouldn't come here ever again! Unless like this year there is a great headliner. Wale made up for the rest of the horrible night, he was amazing. Lido was good also but it's a "JazzReggae" Fest not Vegas. If Wale wasn't there I would have requested a refund for the whole fest, even my food was bad!

No jazz musicians, maybe 2 reggae musicians. The main stage lineup sucked. The music was OK, the second stage in the back was jamming more than the main stage . He played all the right music that's where I spent majority of my time. The vendors food was amazing great choices. There wasn't enough room to eat at the tables, and I did not want to sit on the wet AstroTurf (light drizzle) that was a downer. The ticket price was too much for the event.

Wale as the headliner was amazing of course. As well as a couple other acts including Kehlani and Marion Hill. However, there was NOTHING jazz or reggae about this event! i LOVE reggae and was really disappointed that there was none on stage , or even some coming from the DJ off to the side! NO reggae whatsoever at a reggae festival? i dont understand.

Wale did his thing!!! And Lido was good. I wasn't at the festival all day so I didn't see all the acts and/or if other booths left because of the rain. However, there wasn't much to do in the arts and craft section. I thought there would be many more hands things to do. The food booths were sufficient. Overall the music portion was the best part.

After last year's debacle with the vendors I was quite hesitant in attending. Being stuck on a field with no food or drink was not something that I wanted to experience again. Luckily that did not happen this year. Food was being sold, artists were painting, and the performers were amazing. The one draw back, the emcees were awful.

Aloe Blacc was awesome...I was really hoping Snoop Dogg would do more Snoop Lion instead...it didn't really seem all age appropriate with the songs he chose.

This was a totally chill venue that was great for the whole family. Variety of food vendors offered great food choices. Lawn seating provided picnic like setting. No alcohol was allowed or offered which made it that more comfortable environment for families with children to not be concerned of the event getting out of control. Nice location for great So. Cal. weather. 2days of great performers at an AWESOME price. Free supervised Bicycle Valet was a nice bonus for cyclist.

The four performers were Jahwsome!! Marcia Griffith was one of the I threes for Bob Marley - Her voice is as melodic as it was 30 year ago. Mr Vegas was a very nice surprise. He is a world class entertainer but did a medley of "reggae oldies" which was extremely satisfying. Barrington Levy had the crowd in the palm of his hand and had a singalong competition with the left center and right hand side of the audience. The headliner was none other than Mr Ziggy Marley whose band consisted of 4 guitarist 2 keyboard player a drummer and a percussionist. He also had a dancer and back up singer who was a talent in her own right. It was truly special to see his young kids skanking in the wings ( don't quote me on that) - He has great positive songs with infectious melodies. - The crowd was chillin and it was a great Reggae Day.

With the exception of Common, the first day was horrible! I don't know why they call this a jazz fest because there was no jazz music. After waiting hours for the vendors to start serving food, I finally couldn't wait anymore and by 3:30 I ended up going to the UCLA student center. The only place serving food was Carl's Jr., which I didn't want but had no choice. After waiting in line for an hour I finally received my food and headed back to the festival and as I'm walking back I heard Common! I was pissed because I missed the beginning of his performance and he was the main person I went to see. The second day was more organized and had better performers but I want a refund for the first day.

Ziggy was as wonderful as expected! Marcia was the beautiful and gracious artist that she has always been. Truly a Reggae Queen!!!!!!! The venue was great! Lots of craft booths, and very wisely arranged on one side with the food booths on the other. Also plenty of restrooms, and kept clean. UCLA should be proud, and should receive their "props" for a wonderful festival!!!

Had a very good day at UCLA reggae joint. Artists were jamming, especially Marcia Griffith. Sat in deluxe seats and was pleasantly surprised at the food and swag that came with the seated, shaded area. Only issue was seat placement at far left of the stage (had to jockey for position to really eyeball the acts).

I'm surprised that not too many people showed up to this event when Ziggy Marley performed. The preceding acts were just ok. Barrington Levy was overdoing and spen too much time on stage. MORE Ziggy next time please.

I used to attend this event back when it was free, now it's $30 plus fees, oh well, I guess. But the fact that you can't bring chairs is ridiculous. Having to sit on the hard ground for hours is extremely uncomfortable. AND, no where did it say you couldn't bring chairs, NOT ONE sign listed chairs. The acts were great but the experience was not.

The event had a great line up (Common, Santogold and Jhene Aiko to name a few) and the shops offerred a wide variety of goods from bracelets, rings, hennas, flags, and t-shirts. I loved the picnic idea and the ability to just lay around listening to good music. Unfortunately, the City shut down the food sales due to a water sanitation issue. This meant that we couldn't get food until well past 5PM! The vendors were irritated and so were we! Rather than let us grumble about this issue for the entire day, the staff allowed exit and reentry by handing out raffle tickets. This greatly helped as it gave us an opportunity to get food and come back to enjoy the music. Only other gripe, would be the lack of alcoholic beverages! It's a music festival!!! There should at least be the option of drinking a beer, margarita or double whiskey on the rocks. Next year, i'm bringing a flask.
