I was totally mezmorized. The shapes, the forms, the amazing ways in which these professional performers could use thier bodies to tell a story without a single word was absolutely the most fantastic use of oneself that I have ever seen. There were 2 year olds to teens, young adults and seniors there sitting quietly and enjoying every minute of the show. Im not an event goer but felt that i needed to get away and clear my head, so decided to do something i would never do alone and bought a ticket. You must go see it. It's 90 minutes of your life, that you will never forget or regret.

I've been told for months now to see them, as I move, dance and balance like them. Well last night blew my mind. It was as if watching what I do being performed and then some. It made me feel like I have a place I fit in and it's already out there. Breath taking, powerful, fun, brilliant and so very captivating. The 2 hours flew by as if it were 1 hour. I'll be coming back for more and more and more. Their strength and creativity and how they work in a group is just so ahhhh inspiring.

I was actually very disappointed as the last time I saw the company, the work was very different. The dancers were technically lovely and there were some very nice moments, though I did not like any one piece as a whole. I felt that it has become more about the "tricks" which soon grew stale and predictable, and less about the content. I paid quite a bit for very disappointing orchestra seats, being unaware that we were way off to the side. I did not know that I would not be able to see anything happening stage right. I would rather have had cheaper seats elsewhere and be able to view the entire stage. The tickets were definitely not worth the price that we paid. I am sure that many people out there thoroughly enjoyed the performance depending on where they are coming from, so I would recommend that people see them.

This wonderful contemporary dance company uses parts of dance forms from all over the world including many various international music backgrounds to create a performance that is beyond amazing, captivating its audience throughout their performance. The dances were consistently creative, innovative and performed flawlessly. Every dance was another wonderful surprise. We could have stayed for another performance as they captivate you throughout the performance.

The first two dances were interesting and relatively worthwhile new productions. The third dance consisted of men alone wearing only shorts. The third dance was uncomfortable for me as too HomoErotic. Possibly if the dancers' attire were different the eroticism would have been less pronounced. Finally, the last dance was more typical of classical Pilobolus though the exhilarating human structures so typical of the company just were not as numerous or interesting as in the past and missed. Finally the performance at times in the last three dances was very slow, another disappointment for a company built on motion. The dancers were good. The choreography poor. Company s potential not realized. I look forward to better performances in the future.

Opening act was so different from the more graceful work they're known for. Very upbeat. The creativity of their numbers is miles ahead of other dance groups. Those who've seen P before should return as it's all new stuff for several of the acts. They should take their show on the road in Europe, as there is material here that would play overseas very well.

I had seen pilobolus perform several times in the 90's; loved them but felt that I get the idea and I've seen what they can do. I was satisfied wth that. I saw them again last night and regretted having waited so long. They are endlessly amazing and creative and magical. I am in love all over again. Thank you pilobolus - you are brilliant.

The dancing was great! The sound not so great. The song selection could have been a lot better, and it could have been mixed better, but above all I think the sound guy was sleeping last night, because the high ends were blaring and I thought I was going to loose my hearing. Again though the dancers were nothing but perfect, and a marvelous blend of inspiring and absolutely entertaining. The strength they posses is astounding, and the movement they use is well trained and well executed. It's as if their bodies were one at one point, and Zeus cut them apart and now they are dancing to get back together. Brilliant. Hooray for the choreographers, and hooray for the dancers. One thing I could have seen move of was the naked scenes. I love flesh, and wanted to see more of it.

Despite frequent and understandable comparisons to other performance groups, like Cirque du Soleil, Pilobulus is unique and a min-epanding venture into new and unchartered areas of modern dance. The company remains fresh and exciting with a blend of recent and earlier works. Initially one might have welcomed program notes indicating what the choreogrpahers had in mind about particular pieces. But in the end, it is all the more satisfying to have been left to form one's own conclusions as to what is expressed on the stage.

I Have been following the Pilobolus Dance Theater for more than 35 years and they still seem to have a great appeal to their old fans as well as new. They wowed the audience and at times I was amazed. However, several of the dancers did not have the preciseness that I have remembered in the past. Feet not together, pairs of dancers not evenly matched, timing off...subtle things that I notice mainly because I use to dance (not professionally), I follow dance religiously and I am am a highly visual person. All in all it was worth it and I would do it again, just as long as my eyes can adjust to their short comings.

If you're looking for little girls in toto dresses dancing to your typical Classical music, then this is NOT for you (not that, that is not wonderful either) but if you appreciate any form of modern and contemporary art, then I recommend this for a weekend date night. No man would ever walk out of this show bored and for you ladies, it is two hours of ecstasy. It's a win win.

The last time I saw this dance troupe was 13 years ago (1996) in Glendale. They were mesmerizing then and they still are. They leave you wondering..."how'd they do that?"...and "how could one person be THAT strong?" If I could, I'd see them again and again and again. Thanks KCRW for the e-mail blast and the discount. Otherwise, I wouldn't even have known they were in town. What a tragedy that would have been :o).

Absolutely top quality rated perfomance. All dancer did it on the most professional way. Musik, stage, costum and the whole perfomance blended in just the best . Very new coregroaphy in Los Angeles, The body work dance system was just amaizing. Good to see, how the jung generation goes beautifull way to the bodyculture with elegant perfomance. One way. Just the best. Thank you.

The most recent Pilobolus concert f or kids was the best yet. They have figured out how do make it appeal to kids. Lots of audience participation, explanations, short dances, a theme (nature) that kids could relate to, lots of humor. I have seen 4 others and this was the best by far

Exactly why Pilolobus is categorized as a "dance" company is beyond me. They did essentially nothing that qualifies as "dance" in their Aug. 15 performance at the Wolf Trap. They did some simple gymnastics, played around on a glass table like little kids in a sandbox, and slid some chairs around the stage. Yawn! Intermissions and breaks between pieces comprised about half of the length of the show. I can't believe that I wasted $40.

I've been wanting to see Pilobolus for years and this is the first time I've gotten my act together to get tickets. We were not disappointed! We came with friends and our 7yo kids. We all loved Branches. The coal miner's wife piece was lovely, but was upsetting to one of the kids the first time. I say first time, because overall the experience was so wonderful that we attended the evening performance. The coal miner piece wasn't as upsetting the second time for the 7yo, but I think other pieces might have been preferable in the kids matinee (i.e. magic piece?). We really enjoyed the audience participation and talkback with the performers in the matinee.

Opening piece - the nature of things was well done. Also enjoyed the last 2 pieces. Between the opening piece and intermission was so so. If it's in DPAC, do not sit in section 6!! They have some equipment hanging off the edge of the balcony in the middle with some LEDs facing you that will be a major eyesore. I had to make a shade out of my programme to keep the lights from bugging me.

I have not seen Pilobolus for some time. It was refreshing to see the added videos and live accompaniment. Pilobolus never disappoints in their athleticism and art. Added humor through videos and one of their performances just added more flavor to the performance. Live entertainment by Bela Fleck and Abigail rounded out the experience on multiple levels. I only wish they would include a short blurb on the pieces instead of just the recognitions.

I am a very long term Pilobolus fan though it's been a really long time since I've had a chance to see them in performance (so I was excited for this opportunity). I guess they come to Durham every year for this dance festival, but I'm just visiting the Triangle. They are great dancers & the performance was definitely innovative--multi-media, off-beat narrative. I thought the first 1/4 was unfocused & a bit tedious. Then the story picks up, but I found it disturbing--about a little girl (perhaps in a dream/nightmare) touched by a giant hand (hand of God?) which transform her into a dog-girl. She goes thru a number of experiences, most very unpleasant, in which she is ridiculed, forsaken, cruelly mistreated & her life endangered. I attended the "family matinee" where lots of small children were present, & wonder how they reacted? It was more uplifting at the end & I felt somewhat better about it. Overall, very mixed.

The first time I saw Pilobolus was in a small university venue 38 years ago in St. Louis. That and every performance all I have seen since have been amazing. There has been a considerable transition in the overall vocabulary of their presentation in these many years, but the base of fluid, seemingly effortless motion has remained a solid foundation for the artistic expression. The shadow play was a surprise to me, as I was not aware of their recent work in this area. I found that part of the presentation to be emotive, and well integrated with the dance choreography. The bonus was the story told, without using any spoken words. It was clear, creative, evocative, it even made me cry, and throughout I was amazed by the motions of the dancers.

I've seen Pilobolus before when it came to Fort Lauderdale at Parker Playhouse., so I was excited to share the experience again with my sister. However, this time I wasn't pleased at all.. I was disappointed. I expected more shadow dancing and better transformation skits. It seems as though every skit had someone dying in it at the end. they only had one happy scene, and even that wasn't that great Sad to say I was turned off from going to see another Pilobolus event ever again

I've had the luck to see them several times over the past few decades, starting in the 80's in NYC. Their work is genius. The creativity of each piece is top notch. Stunning strength of the dancers, combined with incredible control of their bodies leads to amazing displays of smooth dance movements and well as exciting pieces. Adding to their expertise of dance is a high tech knowledge for conceptual art, or shadow pieces, which are always fun and amazing. You need to see this dance company at least once in your life.

I have seen several of their performances, I love this group, specially their creativity. Before this one, I saw them 7 years ago, and not sure when they changed but in every act now there is some kind of sexual reference. As I said, I love the group and I took my girls (6 & 8 years old) to see this show. My 8 year old was asking me if it was appropriate for them, since the "costume" of the girl in the first act did not covered enough. She was topless. Some of the references they probably didn't get, I just don't really see the need for it. I still think it is a show to recommend, but not for kids if they continue to go this route.

i have wanted to see Pilobolus for a very long time. Last time they were irn Broward the performance was canceled. This time I got tickets early and looked forwad to the performance. Hated the music, did not at all enjoy the cacophony of music nor dance. The first number was the only one I found interesting. You can not fault the strength and body movements, however the entertainment quotient was very low in my perspective. The good news - I no longer have to worry about securing tickets if/when they come back to town.

Amazing, exceptional show that leaves you panting: these guys defy the laws of gravity with such natural ease that you wonder why you could not do the same! The performance is full of humor and poetry. A must!

I always try to see Pilobolus when they come to town. Thet are amazing. I am always blown away by their movements. They make it look so easy and flawless. The only negative comment I have is, I didn't care for the magic act. The 2 guys on the pole were interesting but that looked like dance moves. I want to see awsome dancing, not magic.

Prepare for a treat. Amazing performance - and I went in with high expectations. I was surprised and enjoyed the variety of media, ideas and emotions that each piece evoked. It was a mixture of many different experiences into one cohesive gift of aliveness taken to an art form. Strength Beauty Humour........We all LOVED it!

While I admire the strength and flexibility of the dancers, I and my guest had no idea what the dances were intended to say. Maybe more descriptive titles or some hints in the program would have helped.

This performance was so diverse! Each piece was distinctive in music, theme, movement, lightening, spacing and choreography. The performance made you not only appreciate the beauty of the human body and strength but also make you wonder what their workout regiment consist of. When you watch them, you know what they do is a art form that has to be mastered and is precise. I cannot wait to see them again!

Family friendly version was boring. Too much talking and dance routines underwhelming. Perhaps the full version is better.

I bought tickets for the "show" for my husband and I and our 3 year old son. My husband and I had seen Pilobolus before, for the main show and really enjoyed it. I didn't think the children's performance was great however. First of all, there wasn't much in the way of actual performance. The group did do a few short pieces, but most of the show was Shawn up on the stage talking about "the rules" of creating dance pieces. While I appreciate they were trying to explain things for children, I would think most kids would tune out when they start to hear grown-ups talking about "rules." My 3 year old has been to performances before (dance, sing, plays) and he has always been mesmerized by the actual performance. Throughout this show, he kept asking me when it was going to start. All in all, a bit of a disappointment. Got to keep children entertained and, In my opinion, you're not going to do by talking to the audience.

I am not quite sure I am a member of the same species as the pilobolus dancers. They do things that I cannot even imagine doing, much less being able to do. Lovely artistry, unique imagination, grace, and unbelievable flexibility and strength. And it made me smile.

My sons didn't think they would like the Pilobolus Children's Matinee at DPAC because they got stuck on "dance concert," but they absolutely loved it. They were both laughing so hard that they were gasping for breath! When we left, they both said, "You were right, Mom, it was amazing." Music to a mother's ears...

The performance was fabulous as usual. The only recommendation I would have is to shorten the videos between so that they are only as long as necessary to prepare the stage for the next production.

If you were below the age of 11, this was probably a great event. However, I purchased tickets for what was advertised and ticketed by Ticketmaster as "ADF Present Pilobolus Dance Theater," expecting a "regular" Pilobolus show. Imagine the surprise of my two friends and myself when we walked into DPAC and encountered a CHILDREN'S matinee, and programming. Seriously disappointed in both the DPAC and Ticketmaster failure to clearly identify this as an event and programming that was for children. What a waste of time and money.

I saw Pilobolus on Friday as the first modern dance performance I had ever seen in my 63 years. Overall I was stunned, as in not able to talk after the performance is over, and that is very unusual. The athleticism of the dancers was amazing, the creativity of the choreography was astounding, and the variety among the indivual dances and the videos was exceptional. Not only would I recommend this performance to anybody who would hold still long enough, I will see Pilobolus at every possible opportunity in the future.
