The title and description of this event made no reference to the presence of a half-rate vocalist. The expected performance featuring the ASO, turned out to be a mock concert. The venue is great, otherwise the rating would be lower.

The table seats were great, although we were a little disappointed we couldn't see the screens. My 6 year old was also pretty bummed when we didn't see Star Wars on the program; it had been listed on the website for the concert. Thank goodness they played it as the encore, it made his night!

I had a great evening at the ASO All American Celebration event. The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre is a great venue for this type of celebration. The symphony sounded great, and the fireworks display after was impressive. The US Army Chorus added a nice vocal counterpoint to the evening. Finally, It was much easier getting in and out of the venue compared to the Centennial Park or the Lennox Mall celebrations. I definitely plan a return trip next year.

Last night I saw an amazing performance by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the U.S. Marine Corp Chorus. The music was beautiful, the singing was outstanding and it was just a great production.

Excellent concert. Loved the army chorus! Fantastic fireworks. This was my first time at the amphitheater and I though it was very well designed. No problems with parking or traffic. The management needs to take note of the smell from the porta potties- it was an unpleasant detractor when sitting in the central lawn area.

The only problem was the near by (and they were very near) fireworks that were going off during the the concert and overbearing to the musicians that we were trying to hear. Maybe next year a negotiation could be worked out that they start later.

This was one of the best performances we've ever seen. Tony Vincent & his group backed by ASO fit together like hand in glove. Be sure to catch this the next time it comes to ATL (or any other city you can get to).

Very good overall. Not sure who was mixing the audio, but the lead vocals were muddy at times. Also, the lead vocalist's sappy commentary on each song became grating.

From the time we arrived with the crowd buzz wih the wonderful venue it was a life experience. The symphony, the band, and the singer did a great job in fullfilment of David Bowie the person and Artist. I personally like the breif narratives given by singer. Showed study and his appreciation.

Joshua Bell is one of the finest violinists in the World. We could listen to him play for hours! However, the amount of exertion it would take for his usual performance would most likely kill him to play for that long.

Usually a soloist comes and does their performance with the conductor and symphony as background, like studio musicians. Joshua Bell captivated the audience with not only his masterful control of the violin but how he played with the orchestra and conductor in which it was as if they were one instrument. Bell's playing brought out the best in the ASO.

My husband is a huge Star Wars fan, so just those two words and we're pretty much there! On top of that we are both avid music lovers and never miss an opportunity to see live music if we can. The orchestra was amazing, and I loved the way individual artist were highlighted. I also thought the conductor had the best sense of humor. That was unexpected, but made the evening that much more enjoyable. Although this was ASO present Star Wars, we actually got to hear a vast variety of John Williams' work, including some I didn't even know he'd composed. The only reason I can't give this five stars is because I thought the performance was a little short. Including intermission, we were only there two hours.

It doesn't matter where you sit. It is still great. It was not super loud, but loud enough. They played lots of John Williams songs, which was great. The Conductor was great as he was funny, made jokes, and kept the show entertaining between songs. Wish the show had been about 2 to 4 songs longer though. Some Star Wars characters show up as well.

Atlanta Symphony did a great job with the selection of music from the Olympics theme to Harry Potter to Star Wars. It was also entertaining to see the 501st garrison come out on stage. The only complaint I have is that the venue is not geared for symphonic music. The venue is not designed to hold in the music like a symphony hall, so some of the notes just did not have that wonderful, booming classic sound.

This concert should have been named "The Music of John Williams" rather than "Music of Star Wars"...only about 40% of the music was from Star Wars. As a Williams fan, I'm fine with this, but I had to keep explaining to my children that they would get to playing Star Wars "eventually."

As a fan of music from the movies, especially a fan of the scores John Williams created for iconic movies, it's difficult not to like what we experienced at the event. We also thought the conductor was great with the humor-infused introduction to a lot of the memorable motion picture soundtracks we heard. I've heard the Dallas Symphony play the movie music of John Wiliams as well. Our next goal is to see John WIlliams conduct the orchestra himself .... hopefully someday soon.

The John Williams -inspired programming was excellent. The surprisingly familiar music was presented flawlessly and beautifully. Amazing how each song evoked happy memories from various tv shows and movies including Star Wars and Indiana Jones.. We were impressed with both the wide selection and the conductor, who also served as "narrator," interestingly weaving the music together with fun stories. My teen aged kids joined us reluctantly and all thanked us later!

The Atlanta Symphony music of the Eagles concert was awesome!! One of the better concerts I have ever been to. All my favorite Eagles songs, the excellence of the musicians, and the great and wonderful Chastain Park made for an unforgettable evening. I heard rumor that this was to be the last ASO production at Chastain, if so that is a shame because Chastain is such a great venue. (although I like the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre a lot too) Anyway if that was the end of ASO at Chastain it was a great way to go out!! (of course I will follow such great shows to the Verizon Wireless)

The already great music of the Eagles was made even greater because of the fullness of sound provided by the ASO. The main singer, Terry Brock, has a wonderful voice and was very personable as he interacted with the audience. No doubt performing in his hometown at Chastain Park was a fantastic experience for him.

We have attended practically every Eagles concert given in Atlanta and were so saddened when Glen Frye passed away. When we saw the ad for this concert, we went online for tickets right away. Aside from it being absolutely stifling heat/humidity-wise, the singers' voices and guitar work- plus the ASO- were very good. But, it just wasn't The Eagles. Both groups did a very acceptable job, but the concert- in general- was one which I would not have gone out of my way to see/hear. Perhaps had the weather been a bit more bearable, we would have had a better time.

Truthfully, it was way better than we expected. We really thought the orchestra would play all of the songs, with an occasional addition of a guitar player. It turned out to be the next best thing to an Eagles concert. The "band" that played with the orchestra was simply incredible. Perfect harmony, which is the foundation of the Eagles music. And the orchestra was a perfect balance. We were blown away. The whole audience was screaming "one more song" by the end.

I had not heard of Windborne Music but bought tickets for the Atlanta Symphony and the music. It was a great concert and I would go to see another of the Windborne groups (they do music of.... a concert for about every major pop star/group from Michael Jackson to Bon Jovi). If Chastain parking were sold online, I would be even more inclined to attend events there -- it is always a gamble to know if there will be parking or won't.

Had just a wonderful time at the performance. Can't say enough good things about it. Sitting on the lawn we could see and hear the performance very well. I thought the music selection was perfect for the Occasion. Debbie Gravitte was amazing and the Army chorus was outstanding. I was very impressed with the versatility and quality of our symphony. And the after-concert fireworks were some of the best I've ever seen. This was so much better than fighting the madness of the Wills Park fireworks show. We will be making this an annual 4th of July tradition, and will spread the word.

Let's start with the experience after coming through the gate; twenty minutes in line to buy a beer and a pound cake and a pretzel. The old dear serving me wrote everything on a piece of paper then had somebody else run the credit card and checked my ID as if my white hair was not a clue. The concert was totally uninspiring from the lawns. This was the fourth of July for goodness sake; we expect a little life!. The conductor was able to give some witty, off the cuff coments about the weather but he couldn't remember the the songs in the George M. Cohan salute. The Gershwin: An American in Paris was not a popular choice and too long for this type of concert. The people around us stopped listening and started to chatter. It was an American music concert not a celebration of the 4th of July; there is a difference. As much as I enjoy some of the music in the second part of the concert, we threw in the towel during Colonel Bogey and headed home. If the concert had any life to it we would have willingly stood in the rain for the duration.

I've been to many orchestra concerts and even been in an orchestra and this was unlike any orchestra concert I've ever been to. Lets get real if you been to an orchestra concert and the house is packed out then you can guess around 25% of the audience will be asleep. I'm not saying that I attend "boring" orchestra concerts but when I went to the New York Philharmonic around 45-50% of the audience was asleep. This concert was just so different. The whole show was alive from start to finish. It was like even the audience was apart of the show. At the end of the songs everyone gave amazing appreciation this is an event that you had to be there to understand what I'm saying but I know you can ask anyone in the Atlanta Symphony if they ever gave a concert that had the crowd amazed like this and it would be hard for anyone to disagree. I'm not saying there's somethime wrong with Beethoven or Bach but this music put energy into the crowd and in return it gave the orchestra postive motivation. I just can't see a member of this orchestra saying they had a more alive crowd plessing concert. Even if you never heard Final Fantasy music you will still be blown away. I bought someone with me that doesn't know this kind of music and said they were shocked at how good it was. I looked at the Atlanta Symphony itinerary and they have a concert planned not far from the preformance of "Distance Worlds." I give a big thumbs up to the Atlanta Orchestra for working this hard while still preforming at high standards. I've played some of the songs which will be preformed on their next concert and the songs aren't mediocre either. So bottom line this concert is worth going to rather you know this music or not. I will definitely be at the next concert when it's in my area again.

Most excellent concert- and this being our first time at the Verizon outdoor theater I was actually really impressed with how wonderful everything sounded- reminded me of outdoor events growing up in Washington DC. The pianist was incredibly gifted and the 4 of us sat in lawn chairs with great views of everything including the sun setting during the concert. Surprisingly parking which was included was easy any only a few hundred feet from where we sat. Also surprising to us was when the concert was over, the parking exit was easier than anything I had experienced in town - we were back in Atlanta within 20 minutes. Would recommend this venue to everyone and plan to attend more concerts at the Verizon.

I love the ASO but it's shows like this with featured popular music that draws me to the events. This one was special with my friend, a friend of many, Terry Brock on vocals. While Terry was a big local draw for this show, he also drew many that came up from Panama City Beach. While he was amazing, so much needs to be said for the rest of the amazing vocals of Glen deLaune and Big John Hines. Of course the musicians with Glen DeLaune and Eldon Sulley on guitars, the rest of the rock band and of course our incredible ASO with Martin Herman conducting. The show was as hot as the night!

I wanted to hear the symphony. It was described in the advertisement for the show as the Atlanta Symphony playing Eagles music. However, we got some Eagles impersonators who played their loud rock & roll. No one could hear the symphony. I don't play to see the symphony in a similar situation again.

I don't typically care for concerts, however, the open atmosphere with the tables make it the best setting to enjoy your favorite music. Would go again - please bring back in 2017!

We set out on a very warm evening to hear the symphony play some of our music that we grew up listening to. We did not expect there to be a full focal performance as well. The show was great. The symphony and the guys who sang worked well together. The harmony was right on spot

"Great American Music" was a wonderful concert. Enjoyed very much the great selections of music performed by the Atlanta Symphony at this beautiful outdoor venue. Much appreciation to the ASO for their versatility in being able to present shows like this in addition to their regular classical performances. Definitely hope to see these kinds of concerts continue.

The show itself was fantastic! I was not familiar with Michael Cavanaugh until this event and was totally blown away by his ability to play and sing the music of Billy Joel and Elton John. I wish the ASO had been a little more excited; I think they view the summer pops stuff as "beneath them" which is a shame because only good musicians can play all types of music and the ASO is made up of great musicians. Maybe they just didn't want to be there. My only real disappointment was I bought 2 CDs and had Michael sign them and both have a hiccup on them and skip. :( Otherwise it was a FABULOUS evening and I would go again!

This was an awesome concert!! Although it was fairly hot at the start, it cooled down after the sun went down. Having two (2) huge screens on each side of the stage allowed everyone to see the conductor and orchestra "up close". Great selection of music from American composers. A very worthwhile event to attend.

I was excited to hear the ASO play Bowie's music. What I got was a cover band (a good one) playing Bowie's stuff in a karaoke style (talented btw) and the ASO playing backup. Just not what I was expecting. Not one ASO solo. The dude who sang (every song) was quite good - I don't mean to dog him - but the show left lots to be desired. If you don't go with the expectation of an ASO show though, maybe it would be great.

I've loved the music of David Bowie for 40 years and have followed his career very closely. So the evening was enjoyable and a good value for the money. Having a symphony play along is a nice touch. The vocalist and band playing with the symphony sound really great and the singer sounds very much like Bowie. It was the first night of this tour, so the singer's banter with the audience was a little awkward and stilted. It was fairly repetitive and there wasn't anything he said that was particularly enlightening regarding Bowie. Most of the material performed was early Bowie, with very little from his mid-to-late career. I think the show needs to be better scripted and perhaps have a song from each of his albums throughout his entire career, rather than focusing so heavily on early hits. But yes, I did enjoy the evening.

The vocalist was AMAZING. I could not have asked for a better concert tribute to the late David Bowie! My only complaint was there were no songs from "Labyrinth" - could be due to copyright issues, which I completely understand. I had hoped the vocalist would say something like, "You know...you remind me of someone...who is it...who is it...OH! I remember! You remind me of.......the babe!" and the audience could have done the responses, then he could have segued into the song.

This was not what I expected. Have seen other adaptations of artists music by the ASO and really enjoyed them. This was a bad Bowie impersonator with the ASO taking a back seat. I would expect to see a performance like this in a two bit casino in Vegas. Not worthy of the ASO.

We were so excited about this show, but left at intermission. We expected to hear the symphony performing arrangements of David Bowie songs. Instead, there was a five-piece band and singer in the middle of the stage, completely drowning out the world class musicians behind them. At no time could we hear any instrument except the electric guitar, drums and singer. There was no need for the symphony to be there at all. I know considerable effort must have been put into arranging the songs - such a shame the musicians couldn't be heard. These were expensive tickets. Next time, I'll be sure to read the fine print. This would have been a fine show for a David Bowie cover band, but not for the symphony.

Not what I was expecting. Thought ASO would be in the forefront and not a backup band.

Somehow I completely missed that a David Bowie cover band would be featured. I don't feel like that was really advertised - I only ever kept seeing 'ASO plays songs of Bowie'...maybe it was the "fine print." I went expecting it to be just the ASO playing songs of Bowie, but they were mostly drowned out all night by the 5-piece rock band. Hearing Bowie songs live was a nice experience though. The ASO was great as always.

It would be safe to say that from the first power chords of Rebel Rebel to the fading notes of Life on Mars that the crowd was totally into it. Young and old, those in symphony attire and those in rock t-shirts, everyone was on their feet. Lead singer Tony Vincent surprised everyone, I think, by holding his own, which is no small feat. The only quibble would be that his in-between song banter was a bit meandering and probably could have benefited from less personal reflections and more tidbits (historical, perhaps) about the songs themselves. Also, "Golden Years" could probably stand to be cut from the show. The crowd seemed a bit tired of the "Young Americans" tracks and could have stood to hear something a bit more current ("I'm Afraid of Americans" or even something from "Blackstar?). Still, good show!

Overall, I had a great time. I am so glad the ASO decided to do this event, and I just hope, they will do it again. People were having fun, and dancing, but in all truth, I hope it would have been less of a Rock Concert, and more the symphony. I am sure those guys worked really hard, and it would have been beautiful if they had played some songs without the guitar, the bass, the drums, and the vocalist. Talking about the vocalist, he was captivating, charming, and seemed to be very happy to be part of the show. However, if you play with the ASO - one of the top in the World, and you will do a tribute to Bowie, to a full house, please please please practice your lyrics. 85% of the songs were butchered, and that made me really sad, since I am a big fan. I am sure of the majority there didn't notice, since they played the most popular songs.

Overall, I was disappointed with this Bowie tribute. The audio was not well handled, as the guests playing electric instruments completely drowned out the orchestra most of the time -and it was almost impossible to clearly hear the singer. I assume this was due to poorly handled sound management, or maybe a bad sound system, and not the accoustics of the hall nor the fault of any of the musicians. While that was a bummer for my date and I, we were still glad we gave it a go. Unsure if I would do so again, though.

We were expecting to see the ASO play Bowie music, instead the event was a terrific Bowie tribute band with support from the ASO. The lead singer was very, very good. He was able to hit the entire range of Bowie, he also did an awesome Freddie Mercury on Under Pressure. One little complaint - it was hard to hear the ASO as the Bowie band dominated. I thought the lead guitar was just OK. The bass player was very good.

I am a huge fan of Bowie since 1983, so I was excited. The orchestra was superb! I wish they had a bit more dominant role in this show, but unfortunately the band and especially the lead singer made it all about them... The band was very professional, the lead singer had a decent voice, a good performer, however all his talking in between songs was annoying... we all know Mr. Bowie and will cherish him forever, and don'r really need to hear his stories that were average at the best... it is not like Iggy pop is telling us about his meetings with Bowie.

Awful performance. Singer and lead guitar were so loud that they overpowered the symphonic orchestra. In addition, the guitarist was awful. Evening ruined!

The show was advertised as an ASO event, but they did not mention that the concert would be led by a rock band quartet, with the symphony barely audible in the background. It was not what I expected, but was still a good tribute to Bowie.
