The Adolescents
ADOLESCENTS IN CONCERT:Adolescents are still as fast, loud, and snotty as they were when they first hit the hardcore punk scene in 1980. At their live shows they tear through their distorted, attitude-filled songs with the same rebellious spirit that made them an underground phenomenon in the first place. Singer Tony Cadena keeps the punk rock spirit alive by jumping into the mosh pit to sing his angst-fueled anthems, blurring the lines between audience and performer. With 2014’s La Vendetta LP still fresh in fans’ minds, Adolescents will continue to serve up their trademark blend of pummeling rhythms, searing guitar solos, and catchy harmonies on tour.

35 years and still doing it. The Weirdos/Adolescents show was a study in contrast. Tony and Steve put on a set worthy of any act out there. The Weirdos rushed through their old set from 1978/79, just months before the Adolescents' debut. Tony and Steve engaged in banter with themselves that made no sense, unless Tony still sees himself as an exploited underage rent boy. Dix Denny mugged his way without any banter, just demented stares and monkey-like mosh posings. They looked like they have forever - Weirdos. The Adolescents no longer look eponymous, but who cares. Their lyrics still reflect Orange County angst - Kids of the Black Hole. The crowd should have been larger for the venue - about 200 fans. It was mostly 6 or 7 moshers pushing the crowd back while they tried to create a coherent slam flow. Finally at the end sufficient slammers arrived to allow crowd surfing. I left with with no hearing and an aching back. Very satisfying

Just a good, honest punk show--you know, no barriers in front of the stage, no makeup, no light show. The Adolescents and Youth Brigade might not be the new kids on the block, but they know how punk should be delivered.
