The Presidents of the United States

The Presidents of the United States

In case the name left any shred of doubt, let's be clear: alt-rock outfit the Presidents of the United States of America are out to have fun. Rising to fame with hilariously quirky songs like \"Kitty\" and \"Lump\" from their self-titled 1995 debut, the band brought a welcome dose of Dada to the traditionally weighty alternative rock landscape, matching the playfulness of their music with their zany, energy-filled live shows. Hot on the heels of 2014's cheekily titled Kudos to You!, the band returns to the road for a tour that's sure to rock and amuse in equal measure.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Form.

I knew this was going to be a fun show, because their songs are fun and energetic, but the Presidents still managed to blow me away! They bring so much energy to the stage, and I got the impression that they were really having fun up there. Great show and a great time!

I should have remembered to get in a good position when we showed up early, make sure the drum kit for the main act is not obstructed by the speakers. We made that mistake and could see the opening acts with no issue, but only 2/3rds of the main act. The speakers on stage and the 2 poles in the standing area can be a visual obstruction, as a result we couldn't see the drummer for the main act. It didn't hinder the performance, which was exceptional. The opening act (You Scream I Scream) was very very good, with good personalities, engaging the crowd and having a good time. It looked like they were having fun, so we did as well. The second act was forgettable, the drummer was nuts though, he barely used his wrists so his arms were moving a million miles an hour. The Presidents were absolutely incredible. Better live than they are on their albums. High energy, clear vocals and instruments, non-stop perfection. It was cool to hear Chris' stories from his times living in Boston, they were loving the crowd. It was a childhood dream to hear them perform their debut album cover to cover, and it was worth the wait. I only wish I could see them more often, this concert was definitely top 5 for my lifetime. The crowd was a mix of younger professionals and college kids? The college aged kids in the front rows were pretty rowdy, unruly and disrespectful. It looked like a group of friends were bunched together, it seemed like every :20 a couple more kids would elbow their way through to join the herd. One of the worst offenders was pretty belligerent from the start, he kept leaning into the handicap area despite a nice security guard trying to keep the order. He got tossed 5 minutes before main act came on, it looked like he spit on a lady in a wheelchair, so her husband started to take some swings at the kid. The Allston/BU crowd was the only bad aspect to the show.

We saw PUSA on Friday night, and I would see them again tomorrow! This band is fun to watch, great to listen to, and what a great crowd. I was a little skeptical, because I hadn't really gotten into PUSA since the 90s, but these boys can rock a house. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who likes great music and a great time!

What an awesome show! Still in top form and sounding terrific. Did probably a 15 minute encore. Even though one is missing from the original line up, the replacement fit right in as if had been there the whole time. If you love PUSA, you have got to see them in this small venue!

I bought the Saturday tickets for my boyfriend in March, because he's a huge fan. Our schedules had changed since then and we were not able to do Saturday anymore. After some initial email confusion, a phone call to Ticketmaster and an extremely helpful woman scored us Friday tickets!! We arrived for the show to find the venue small-- perfect! No bad seats!! After talking to the really friendly Skagit staff about getting food, they asked if we were big fans since we seemed excited. My bf admitted he was. Skagit upgraded our seats to the 2nd row. Wow! Thanks to everyone for your outstanding customer service!! The Presidents are a very fun group to see live. Chris Baloo is hilarious and super nice (he kept getting hand-shook during the show) and the group's high energy and fun music made the 2 hours fly by. By the end everyone had flooded up the aisles to the stage and was rocking out.

It took a little while for everything to gel, but, as usual the Presidents rocked the house. I always feel envigorated for days after a PUSA show. Reserved seating isn't the best idea for a band that feeds off of crowd energy, but a few brave souls finally got the rest of us up and dancing. By the end of the night we were all shaking our bones, and everybody benefited from that jolt of adrenaline. Thanks go out to both the band and the crowd. Fun!

Freakin' awesome show! I was so disappointed last time they were in town and I put off getting tickets until the last minute when they were sold out. Totally worth every single penny I spent on the tickets. Opening acts were just as fun and great to see as the Presidents themselves. Great atmosphere and excellent overall experience. In my opinion the only drawback was a severe lack of STELLAR hoodie action to commemorate the event. I will admit that I am a hoodie freak, but even the t-shirts weren't very great. Just my two cents.

Attended the Presidents show at the Showbox at the Market in Seattle and it was awesome. The guys were overall very personable on stage, funny, energetic, and really spliced in their new stuff with their old classics every few tracks to keep the crowd jumpin. I've been to quite a few concerts in my life and this was among the best. It was a real crowd pleaser and they were an overall pleasure to watch. Only problem was standing for 6 hours. Feet were killin' me by the end.

First off, The Presidents are awesome, if just reviewing them, 5 stars. My reason for giving 3 stars, and maybe this is because I am a parent and an old 32 year old. (wait, 32 isn't old, is it?) but the opening acts killed it for me. 2 reasons, they sucked and went on forever. Tickets said 8pm start, now I know there are opening bands I have been to many concerts but they started around 9 or so and the Presidents didn't go on until 11. I just thought we waited waaaay to long watching sucky garage band music. We were so tired by the time the Presidents finally came on we left. So sorry Presidents for the 3 stars, you ROCKED it, I only wish we could keep our eyes open to finish your set.

These guys are absolutely AH - MAY - ZING!!! Their energy, even when it was their third show of the weekend, poured off the stage and electrified the crowd. These guys have not lost a step in since their early days and I'm already rallying friends for next year's PUSAFEST! I would also like to tip my hat to the Shobox sound crew for doing an absolutely fabulous job! The sound quality, standing only fifteen feet from a set of speakers, had almost studio level clarity. The balance of vocals and instruments were dead on! Thank you for making it an incredible show.

They worked the crowd unbelievably. From start to finish they were fantastic. The guitarist crowd surfed and played his guitar at the same time. Each song sounded just like it was from the CD, crystal clear. I would definitely see them again. Even kids were at the showed and they enjoyed it too. Overall a great experience for new and older rockers.

Doors opened late. Did not know Showbox had turned into a nightclub. Was with my 2 daughters. Nowhere to sit. Was not promoted as several other bands playing before. All ages show but PUSA didn't take the stage until 11pm. I love to share great rock and roll with my kids and get irritated when we have to leave before the show is over because they are too exhausted to stand anymore. Sunday's show, added months after I bought tickets to the only all ages show previously available, had doors open an hour earlier. Would have worked out a helluva lot better for those of us with kids. I saw a number of families streaming out before the show was over. Jonathon Colton is an entertainment genius and I appreciated his set BUT he knew it was an all ages event and went ahead with a song about nothing but sex. I'm not a prude but having my nine year old go to school with a brand new vocabulary is not cool. This was our fifth PUSA show as a family and it was definitely the most disappointing. Might not be back for a sixth. :(

Show was not listed with opening acts in December when bought tickets. Brought 2 young kids (4&6yrs.) to see their favorite band to an 8pm show. After standing in line outside in the cold, listened to 2 opening bands until after 10:30pm. When the 2nd opening act said, "okay, a few more songs" at 10:35pm, we left with 2 disappointed little girls. If there are to be long opening acts, than advertise that! Would have been a good show if we knew it was going to be a festival and had been prepared for it. That is NOT how it was advertised in December. No mention of a Festival or opening bands. So, we did not see the PUSA and had two very disappointed little girls at the end of the night. My problem is not with the show, but with how it was promoted. Just let people know the line-up at time of purchase so they can plan accordingly. We are big concert goers and this is one of the few concerts I've been to that this has been a problem. That said, even with opening acts in the line-up, it doesn't usually take 2.5 hours for the main act to come on. Wish we could have seen the main act but I don't know that we'll buy tickets for the girls to see PUSA again due to this situation.

A very fun show in an intimate setting. Half of the crowd was a little too quiet, though, and a few (younger) members of the crowd were too loud talking about their social lives instead of paying attention to the band ... not sure why they were even there.

1) Got to the show an hour and a half before doors opened, got to meet both the front man and the drummer! 2) Front row center for one of the funnest bands I've ever heard/seen. 3) Guitarist gives me an autograph WHILE HE'S ON STAGE! 4) Guitarist stage-dives right onto me (and surrounding fans)! The ticket said the show started at 8 pm. The Presidents didn't come on till 11:30 pm. This especially sucked since my husband had to work at midnight. We thought for sure we would be able to actually SEE THE SHOW WE PAID FOR!!! I actually cried, since they are one of my absolute favorite bands, I have never seen them live, and we had to leave after 3 songs. I cried. The first opener was pretty good. The second just sucked. A Steel Panther wannabe? Not okay since Steel Panther is a Spinal Tap wannabe. Half of the crowd was booing the whole time they were up there. I actually want my money back.

I've seen 130 shows & Presidents are in the top Ten! They have been in my top ten for about 12 years & after this years show...I havent changed my mind. Not only are they great musicians, they are great entertainers. Contagious energy, fun songs, cool crowd interaction, they nail it all. I saw them twice on this tour & would gladly see them more. Highly recommended even if you only know a few of their songs. I will go to this show whenever I can for the rest of my life. Thank you PUSA!

The world would be a lot more fun! Opening band, In The Whale, was like a bolt from the blue! I had never heard of this amazing duo< but now everyone I talk to about the show gets an earfull. Pure joy to watch and listen to. The only thing that kept them from ruling was the Presidents themselves. From the time they took the stage until the final notes of their last song the crowd was enthralled. PUSA's only competition was the crowd itself, driven into full rockin frenzy by the band. One of the best shows I have seen in years.

I took my wife and two sons(ages 16 & 10) to St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit on Friday the 13th to see this show. My wife and I had seen the Presidents twice before, the last time in about 1996 at the same venue. Both times we had a BLAST! The Presidents of the United States of America are a humorous, high energy, pop/punk band who seem to never let you down, and this time it was no different. Even 17 years later. They opened with their cover of the MC5's "Kick Out The Jams" and never stopped kicking them out until two hours later. They played all their hits, as well as tunes from their new release, and all were well received. The crowd was rowdy, yet pretty well behaved, and seemed to supply as much energy to the band as they gave out. We stood in the balcony, to the left side of the stage, right above Chris Ballew. The band seemed very appreciative and even recalled that they hadn't been to Detroit in about 16 or 17 years. They played like they did long ago, the only difference being the lead guitarist and all of our ages. The Great Deal I'm speaking of was when I got onto the Ticketmaster website to purchase the tickets, there was a ticket special. If you purchased 4 tickets, you got your tickets for about $10 total a piece. I actually paid more to park my car than the single ticket price. I couldn't complain about a $40 family night out. Both my sons enjoyed the show immensely and couldn't believe how much energy the band had. When they come back around, hopefully sooner than 17 years later, we will most definitely go to see The Presidents of the United States of America again.

I was so stoked to see The Presidents of the United States of America in Indianapolis I bought a ticket (3 actually) and made plans to travel and catch them live, like, two months ago. (I'm from Cleveland) I'm pretty sure they've played Cleveland once since 1995. Anyhow, we hit the spot early, were surprised and pleased noticing how nice the venue was, stood through the first band, moseyed around in the hallways during the second act and were whooping it up by the time the lights went down and The Presidents came out. From "Kick Out The Jams" to "Kick Out The Jams" redux (yes, they played it twice) this show was one of the most fun shows I've seen ever BAR NONE. Chris, Jason and Andrew were as excited as the audience and the intensity crackled through their singular instrumental prowess and the musical interplay they displayed as an awesome power trio (!) They cranked out hits, tidbits from the mid-career stuff and the newest songs did not disappoint. Chris kept the momentum moving between songs with wholesome good humor and amusing short stories. Although many fans may complain that The Presidents of the United States of America are "underrated" (and they indeed may be) I'm thankful for their current level of popularity, and so glad they put out new music from time to time. See you in Clevo in August!!!

The Presidents brought a lot of energy and played most every song you would expect to hear. I would have liked to hear electric spider from the new cd but oh well. They had a great opening band, Charlie Pattons War, I think they were students from IU. The second opening band was not so entertaining, very slow and mopey, not what I needed before a high energy show. Drinks were expensive $16 for a 24oz sierra nevada pale ale and $10 for a 10oz single vodka and tonic.
