The concert was so well done. The soundtrack for Jurassic park is one of my favorites anyway and the orchestra performed it amazingly! So my fun!

I ve seen Jurassic Park a number of times but this event was like seeing it for the first time. Sure there is the big screen again but I can t help but feel that the impact of the the beautiful music - live greatly contributed to emotions during the film. I was clinging to my seat just like the first time.

What a great concept. The movie is projected on a big screen over the orchestra while they play the entire soundtrack WITH THE MOVIE. The original voices of the characters and the sound effects are from the movie. The music is played live - and incredible. Some people in attendance dressed in costume. Great for all ages.

The performance by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra was incredible as always. This was my first experience with their performance with a film. The sound during the musical portions was great, but it was almost impossible to hear and understand the conversations in the movie. I sat in the first row balcony and not sure if the dialog sound was better in the first floor hall seating.

My husband and I were SO excited to come see this performance! We love The Nightmare Before Christmas, and we missed it last year! The only downside to the night was the fact that we were surrounded by teenagers. A high school band bought out almost the entire top section which is where we were sitting. They were loud and rude. They were on their phones the majority of the show. They were the nightmare element to the evening. I realize that that was very specific to the show we went to, so I still give it 4 stars! I just wish there was some way we would have know ahead of time about the high school band. We would have gone a different night, or we would have tried to upgrade our seats.

We were amazed with how well the performance came off with the ASO syncing with the movie soundtrack! It really added to the whole experience. The various soloists were amazing, particularly the pianist and the trumpeter. We're both jazz fans and they we equal to some of the best artiists of the genre. Great job ASO!

The orchestra was amazing and on point. My only complaint is that the movie (vocal tracks) were way too loud. I kept wanting to turn it down a little bit. It was hurting my ears and the i could see others around me cringe everytime a vocal track would come on. Amazing time but too loud.

I looked forward to the LA LA LAND "in concert" last week by the Atlanta Symphony. I'm a big fan of the music and assumed I would be attending a true "pops"-like concert of movie music. Instead the idea was to drop out the music track from the film and have the live orchestra play in its place while we watch a washed-out, smallish projection of the film above the musicians. It was shockingly ineffective. The speakers were not up to the vocal tracks of the film, which sounded shrill and tinny most of the time. And the orchestra, while technically doing the intended job very professionally, sounded like an inferior version of the music which originally blasted through the dynamic theatre speakers and subwoofers during the original theatrical presentations. Less drums, less oomph, less everything. I guess this was a way to sell some tickets for the symphony but a true concert would have much more satisfying. I left at intermission and I bet I wasn't the only one.

Sitting second row loger slightly right of center the audio from the sound track was very harsh and far to loud. In spite of the volume it was difficult to understand voices, especially female voices. The Symphony was most enjoyable while the credits were running at the end of the movie. I loved the concept of musical accompaniment of movies, but you must improve the movie sound.

It was, to say the very least, an unsurpassed Holiday event, but when I think about it...the Atlanta Symphony and Chorale, the Morehouse Men s Glee Club and the Gwinnett Singers...how could it be otherwise? ASO, you really outdid yourselves this time! We left fully primed and ready for the holiday season. Thank you for the early, and most special Christmas gift!

As always, Christmas with the ASO in 2017 was outstanding. I am always amazed at the control Mr. MacKenzie has over everything going on on stage. The choirs are wonderful, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is indeed the greatest musical instrument. We enjoyed the new songs included this year as well as our favorite, Betelehemu, from the Morehouse College Glee Club. This is our seventh consecutive year attending, and we plan to make it a part of every Christmas. We have brought many friends over the years as well, and all have been delighted with the program.

ASO preformed a lovely combination of holiday music through the ages and across the world. I still prefer the pops concert for families because of its variety and energy. This concert has long stretches of quiet, complicated traditional music and the girls chorus was beautiful but serious. Morris Brown was tremendous as usual but they even seemed subdued. This wasn t the best concert for children.

I don't know what it is about Atlanta. I have never seen the level of disrespect for artists when I've been at Broadway plays. The combination of the Symphony playing the movie score juxtaposed with the movie was a wonderful idea! I don't know which I watched more, the musicians or the movie itself. We had a ball. I'm also not sure who annoyed me more: the couple seated in the middle of the row who arrived 15 minutes into the performance or the 10-12 people who climbed over me to leave as soon as the closing credits began to roll, an interval in which the orchestra continued for another 10-15 minutes where you really had a chance to concentrate solely on the excellence of the musicians. God forbid you have to contend with all those other people trying to get out of the parking garage! This behavior is common in Atlanta (have you ever been to a Fox Theater Broadway presentation?). Bottom line: the symphony/movie were great; the audience, not so much.

I am a big time Harry Potter fan, so I absolutely enjoyed hearing the music from the first movie. I didn't expect them to show the entire movie and since it started so late, I felt like they maybe should've just shown clips. I also felt like the movie may have over shadowed the music and I went there specifically for the music so that was kind of a bummer. But if it comes to your city I do recommend you check it out.

We took our 12 year old grandson to this performance for his birthday. He was awestruck and enjoyed every minute. My son and I attended the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone performance at the symphony and loved it. That said, because they showed the whole movie and the orchestra sounded exactly like the soundtrack, our attention was continually drawn to the screen, not the musicians. Prior to the performance, there was a wonderful short movie about John Williams and the making of the music for the film--I wish that, rather than showing the whole movie, we'd had insights like that short, combined with montages of the film and live shots of the orchestra while playing, to focus on the importance of the music to create mood and sound (the timpani making the sound of the ogre's footsteps, for instance) in the film. That said, it was a wonderful experience and we would definitely attend again. I thought it was a great way to introduce a non-traditional audience to the symphony!

This is the second time I've come for a movie night- I love having the opportunity to listen to the score live! It's a ton of fun, and beautiful to watch and listen to. My only comments are lower ticket prices would be nice (so we can come more often!) and to increase the sound effects volume if possible- in this case some of the dino sounds were muted quite a bit. Otherwise, perfect experience and definitely highly recommend! Can't wait to come back!

This event was great! I truly don t think there is a bad seat in the house. They have a large projector screen hanging above the orchestra, so the movie could be seen very clearly. The music really made you feel like you were in the movie. They even had a small intermission so you could get drinks or snacks. The raptor punch was surprisingly good :) This is hands down way more than I would ever pay for a movie but you are also getting the symphony experience. Worth it! I will definitely go again

The first few Christmas songs were played by the ASO and it was so beautiful. This is why we went! After that, the evening was turned over to other performers. There was a soloist who had a beautiful voice, and she was great. From my perspective, it went downhill from there. I don't recall names, but they had a 16 piece percussion band that played everything with a heavy jazz slant. I'm not a big jazz fan and certainly don't like Christmas songs played in jazz style. ASO, please stick with the orchestra playing holiday favorites. P.S. The bit with the elves was cute/funny, but went on a little to long.

This year's performance was a disappointment to us. Too much of the gospel singers and lounge singers. The big band was fine for a bit but seemed to dominate the show. We came to hear the symphony and they were greatly overshadowed by the others. Gospel singers were overpowering.... not my idea of a good version of Handel's Messiah! I miss the classic Christmas tunes as performed by the ASO in the past. While I can appreciate the talent of the guest performers, it is not what we came to hear. We have been to this performance several years in the past and have always loved it. Sorry for the negative feedback, but thought you would want to know.

The Atlanta Symphony and vocalists did a terrific job. The guest participants did as well. The "elves" and the Big Band were the superstars. Here are areas in need of significant improvement: a) the acoustics are terrible -- Atlanta needs a new hall; b) the audio system is also terrible; c) Food and beverages should NEVER be allowed in the hall

The Holiday Pops was a fun mix of orchestra, choir and big band. This was our 9 and 11 year olds first introduction to the ASO. I was initially worried that it would be mainly Handel's Messiah mixed with some carols and that the kids would be bored. This was far more kid friendly than I had thought. Everyone loved it. It was an excellent mix of professional orchestra, amateur choir and even a big band 16 piece band. Outstanding.
