Mark Russell

For more than 32 years, political satirist Mark Russell has been entertaining Ford’s audiences with material ripped from today’s headlines. This year, Russell returns to Ford’s just as the presidential election cycle heats up. Known for skewering Democrats and Republicans alike, Russell’s unique brand of comedy earned him the Mark Twain Award for political comedy and has made him a popular favorite on PBS. Long before Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, there was Mark Russell, daring to joke and sing of the often absurd political process.

I had not seen Mark Russell in 15 years and then on his PBS show. The newly renovated Ford's Theater is an elegant yet small and comfortable venue so perfect for him and remindful of his lounge act venues of many years past. He started off with more current topics and got stronger and more active towards the end of a 90 minute show - leading us into three sing-alongs - in between jumping up to bounce around the stage. As delightful and amusing and sharp witted as ever I recall - a fun show to warm your heart on a cold winter's night!

We have seen Mark in several venues. He is always entertaining and worth seeing live if possible. Ford's Theater is the perfect size for his show.

I saw Mark Russell at Ford's Theatre. The Theatre is the perfect intimate setting for Mark's politics-based humor. The songs were great, sure, but Mark kept the one-liners coming and I laughed so hard and so often that I can't remember half of the jokes. Not sure if that's good or bad. I just know that I left the place with a smile on my face.

A non-stop review of the funny things that happen in DC and politics all around . He provides an intelligent musical perspective of what we all see around us.

This man doesn't age and neither does his "act". He's just as humorous today as he was when I first saw him at the Shorham Hotel. He sure lights up the night.

Mark RTussell outdid himself in his 27th appearance at Ford's Theater. As usual, he mixed brand new material from that day.s newspaper with a very few oldies from his own shows. Nearly all was fresh and he kept the adience roaring with laughter nd cheering him on with applause. He is amazing. Nver misses a beat on the pioano paradies or the stand u comics. It's the best whether you're a political junkie or just want an hour and a half of entertainment and belly laughs.

During the 1970's I would periodically go to see Mark Russell's show at the Shoreham. Then I moved from the area for 18 years, but was able to see a few shows on PBS. I was so excited to see Mr. Russell was doing a show at the Fords Theater that I purchased tickets the first day that the first show was posted on Ticketmaster. I must say, the show was great! He is as politically astute and funny as ever, and it is truly amazing to see him do as 1.5 hour show without an intermission and without a teleprompter. We definitely would go to see his show again.

Mark Russell is an American Icon! May he live long and inspire many. Laughing is a good tonic for health, even if it is directed to our own follies, as long as it is done with "class" and civility!

We could not stop laughing! My husband and I took our almost 17 year old son to the show for his birthday. He loves history, does civil war reenactments, and thought it was awesome that Mark Russell included a discussion of reenactors in his show. I think the last time I saw Mark Russell perform was in 1980 when he did a show for Presidential candidate John Anderson. He is as good as ever and how he comes up with and remembers all those lines is amazing!

Saw Mark Russell 45 years ago at the Shoreham Hotel. He was just the best then and has lost none of his wit and sparkle in 2010. Don't know how he does it? May he go on for ever. (:-)

Mark Russell once again portrayed Washington at its best - he shows what senators, Congressmen, Democrats and Republicans often forget - that they're laughable.

Mark Russell put on a non stop show for 1 and 1/2 hours. Very funny, with equal jabs at Democrats and Republicans. Although our seats were row F in the balcony, the theater is small and our view was great.

I was so impressed with his stamina and energy as well as his speed through his material. I gained an even greater appreciation of him in person than just watching him on TV. He has such a way of cutting to the meaning of political events and finding the humor in them.

The Ford's Theatre is a wonderful cozy setting for the humor and personal interplay of Mark Russell. He is getting up in years and may have lost a step in his fast pace delivery but his intelligent and quick wit remains ever sharp edged. It doesn't matter what your political opinion is, there is enough on both sides of the political spectrum to poke fun at.

Mark Russell has something for everyone. His ability to play the piano, sing, and tell jokes all at the same time is amazing. His performance is totally polished. He engages the audience, keeps you laughing. And he's good at ad libbing if given the chance. During one song, the stage lights went out, he was in total darkness and he was laughing heartily at himself and the situation. It was hilarious

Russell had much new material that was timely as usual: if we attack Iran, we'll need another tax cut. The New Jersey parody was fun sung to Take Me Home Country Roads. Fords Theatre is amazing in its renovation. Good seats 5 and 7 row E left were perfect for seeing and hearing. Russell seemed rejuvenated compared to a couple of the last times we had seen him on PBS in Buffalo. Glad to know he's still at the top of his form.

Mark Russell is very entertaining. Comedy kept up us laughing and piano playing was a great companian piece. Spot on!! Appeals to people of all ages. Brought friends with us and they are now looking forward to the next show. Never a bad seat in the house at the Ford Theater. The refurbished theater now affords nice comfy seats.

Russell kept the audience in stitches the entire performance. Lots of new material (I saw him last year and the year before). How he remembers all of this is incredible! and he continues to be an equal opportunity satirist---all are attacked!

The show was consistently funny with the big laugh-getters fairly evenly distributed along the way. He continues to hold no public figure as too good for his satire. I enjoyed the apparent "free-form" comedy segment about two-thirds of the way through the show. Overall his delivery and timing were top-notch.

The Ford's Theater was great! My company was great as well. However, the show lacked on so many levels. If you want to see this type of show I recommend seeing Capitol Steps.

I have fulfilled one of my "things to do before I die" list by seeing Mark in person last night. I've been watching him on PBS for a long time. He's the best. I would vote for Mr Russell for president. I wish our president could spend some time talking to him to get his historical perspective of our screwed up political system. I have'nt laughed that hard for a long time
